Battlespire, Labyrinthian, Sancre Tor, Puzzle Canals of Vivec, Tel Fyr and the Clockwork City (or parts of it) are all possible candidates from lore. They are not nearly as dreadful inside the games though.
>>
>>51800440
Mods like Greater Dwemer Ruins (Dagoth Ur mega-dungeon) and Sotha Sil Expanded fix this. Also, they're lore friendly enough that they could be considered official.

Let's do some brainstorming - what would Snowhawk (the city in Skyrim/Reach that magically disappeared in TESV) look like? is it a Haafingar city or a Reach city? Perhaps a mix of both? What people live there? What is its history? What is its economy based on?
>>
>>51800293
The final dungeon in Daggerfall seemed pretty hard.

>>51800577
The name implies that it's more of a military fortification than a residential area.

>Old Nordic Ruin
>Large monoliths and symbols all around
>Really gives the impression that its current inhabitants are living in a ruin of a bygone age
>Ring fortress with thick, thick walls and one entrance, not counting the sewer grate.
>A few houses inside, each one with its' door facing away from the great wall
>The entire city is built in a circular pattern, with one main town square in dead centre, and every door pointing out towards it.
>Not many houses at all, relatively small in lore, relatively large in game because Skyrim is a lot smaller ingame.
>Jarls' hall is part of the walls and built in the old Nordic style, looks like a crypt if not for the chandeliers hanging from the roof and the cleanlyness.
>Jarl is seated with his back against a word wall.
>The Jarl is visible once you enter the building, just far away.
>Small, claustrophobic paths on each side lead into the barracks and dungeons, underneath the city, also built in a Nordic fashion.
>>

Arena and Daggerfall both have some fairly brutal dungeons.

Talos.

The HoonDing.

Trinimac.

Vivec.

Leki.

Reman.

Auri-El.

Wulfharth.

Morihaus.

Pelinal.

That's my list, and pretty much in that order. Though Vivec did kill Tiber Septim once...but I mentioned Talos, not the Emperor.

I'd put him approximately around Vivec's level.

Dwemer are not a Great House like others are. It's like how you say Mongol Empire when dealing with them, but they are only called an empire because that's what they resemble the closest in your culture.

I quite like the >>51801586 screenshot desu. You can have bleakness and lifelessness at the same time, and that screenshot certainly conveys a rather inhospitable marsh. Not a completely lifeless place, but then again, not many places in ES are one hundred percent wastelands.
>>
>>51802056
i agree, with the bitter coast i dont mind but turning Balmora into a Forest is just not right.

Morrowinds graphics age rather well id say, it fits the aesthetic of desolation, modding morrowinds graphics for the most part doesnt work.

For example beeing able to see further just destroys the feeling of vastness, aswell as showing you that the red mountain is more a mound than a mountain.

>>51801913
for what its worth ESO has a tribe of Ashlanders living in close proximity to blackmarsh inside a snake infested swamp, they worship what is called "The Ghost snake" which is some form of spirit that resides within what appears to be an argonian structure inside the bog.

You dont interact with them much, mainly they are xenophobic ashlanders who you can pursuade into trading their snakeskin wares with hlaalu.

Are they _actually_ lore friendly enough? I was super suspicious of Sotha Sil expanded from what I saw in previews.
>>
>>51802551
What do you mean originally? you mean where it comes from?
Im fairly sure its never explained what the Ghost snake actually is, maybe there is a lorebook i missed, i honestly didnt like the main leveling zones much, i guess there were some gems there.

Do you know more than i do?
To me it appeared as if the ghost snake was some very obviously argonian thing just judging from the architecture of its lair and the proximity to the marsh.

>>51802524
I think its actually part of one of the major mod compilliations, i mean it is pretty, it just doesnt capture the essence of what balmora is to me.

I dont think all of vvardenfell should be ashlands, i mean vvardenfell is big, i just think that balmora specifically shouldnt be lush.
>>
>>51802763
Almost all new books are just MK apocrypha and mostly Clockwork City is just expanded while being faithful to original design. Nothing that conflicts with known lore is really added there. New artifacts added are from known lore too.

There is one thing that could be lore-unfriendly though. Sotha Sil has preserved himself as a virtual copy inside his city wide computer network, so he isn't really dead like in vanilla. Though to be honest we can't know if he was really dead in vanilla either. I mean, his city was still functioning despite him being dead.
>>
>>51802763
That's made by Trainboy, yeah? We're pretty sure he works for Bethesda now, so I'd say it's about as Canon as MK's fan fiction. That is to say, it doesn't matter just have fun with it.
>>
>>51802766
Also regarding "ghost snake" in Morrowind there are "evil" witches called Magribash. They're renegade wise women who defy men's rule and steal vital essence from men. Their special power is called "ghost nake", but I'm not really sure what it is.

In the game Magribash appear as generic renegade wise women that have women only camps in wilderness. They attack player on sight and don't have unique dialogue aside explaining that they're Magbribash.

I don't think there's any written lore about them. Everything about them is told by dialogue from NPCs.
>>
>>51802944
>Magribash
Oh yeah aperently in Morrowind they were an NPCs class for Ashlander bandits, i completley forgot about that.
>>
Considering that they steal "essence" of men and manifest some sort of a snake. I'd bet it is refering to ghostly penises since I'm pretty sure MK wrote that.
>>
>>51801441
Because Trinimac is literally the "Strong God" of the Elves.
Just because Auri-El is more important doesn't mean shit.

Not to mention the fact that that list is literally written out in terms of a fighting-game roster.
>>
Which faction should I join or what do in Morrowind now? The Telvanni agent quest is usually a slight roadblock for me. Should I also explore houses n shit to see what I can find since that's where the hidden stuff is apparently.

>>51802766
In the early ESO beta, the Ghost Snake was originally known as the 'Aspect of Sithis.'
>>
>>51803741
i think i might remember this.
Makes sense to me, we know Sithis is a thing acknowledged but not neccesarily worshipped by argonians.

In ESO i think the implication is that sithis is what the argonians see as "death", death is not the Grim reaper but a predator waiting to pounce.

Fits their habitat i guess, aswell as their outlook on life.

i do find it interresting that an Ashlander Tribe would adopt an argonian spirit as their totem, on the other hand since that got removed from the game it could not be meant as this.
>>
>>51804471
May not necessarily be an Argonian. I mean it is a serpent after all.

I see it as not a particularly major spirit, possibly an imprint or shade left on the world by Lorkhan during its creation, which eventually coalesced as a serpent as from the natives understanding of the swamp.
>>
Why is Daggerfall the greatest city in High Rock, it maybe the greatest city on Tamriel.
>>
>>51800748
I don't think so, but there are mods to add in lots of towns from Arena. It will make your game run slower though.
>>
>>51804713
I don't know, why?

I haven't seen the ESO version, but the Daggerfall version isn't that great. It's large compared to other TES games, but other cities are about as large in the same game.
>>
>>51804849
In ESO it's made up of about 5 houses, a trade market, a lumber mill, and the castle.
Of course, so is every other major city.
>>
>>51804849
Well the ESO version also has about 30 extra NPCs, some with names that contribute nothing beyond making the city feel populated, something the singleplayer games were lacking.
>>
>>51805220
But Daggerfall was full of random NPCs - hundreds of them. They were just all sprites that were likely randomly generated when you weren't looking, aside from shopkeepers and important NPCs.

Daggerfall had an amazing sense of scale, but it also really lost any chance for a bunch of individual characters. And since the game worlds have been getting smaller since Morrowind despite tech upgrades, I doubt we'll really see anything close to as large again. Morrowind was probably the last shot at cities that were actually decently large and populated with large amount of NPCs - and proper villages, come to think of it.
>>
>>51805418
yeah but all cities were not just daggerfall.

I think the importance of Daggerfall is not neccesarily its size but its political position, its only rivaled by Wayrest.
And important cities become big rather than big cities becoming important.
>>
>>51805515
I think it is the city that even when High Rock was thirty-ish kingdoms, the Empire would treat as the provincial capital, and that hasn't really changed with four.

I like Daggerfall and the history associated with it, but Wayrest just seems like a nicer city.
As for the less obvious cities I quite like Dwynnen.

>>51805418
And this is why the prospect of modding Daggerfall Unity is great.
Imagine Daggerfall, except the different regions have unique styles in clothing and architecture, and with more unique buildings.
More varied NPC sprites to show a few non-humans in cities, more NPC dialogue, and a reintroduction of unimplemented features such as bards and prostitutes. Retrofit lore that has been added to the series since 96.
People were able to mod in sprites and quests back in the 90s, but it will be simpler with the jump to Unity.

what a boring, stupid, disgusting-looking character from a main quest. She has no personality aside from "damn thalmor, damn dragons lol." The other characters were just as flat. A dragon spouting philosophy 101 platitudes and an equally boring blades bookkeeper.

In Morrowind your blades handler is a shirtless man pretending to be skooma addict living at a back-street house in Balmora.

The Hlaalu questgiver is a pervert and smut writer with a number of strange fetishes. The leader of the Redoran at first will say he would die before making the Nerevarine horator. The Telvanni did not give a fuck and basically says whatever, go be horator, just leave you stupid peasant.

None of that character depth is present in the Skyrim main quest, and these are fairly little things, not to even mention the hermaphroditic poet-warrior-god

I don't need super huge cities or better combat or newer graphics, I just want interesting characters I care about talking to.

For what its worth skyrim tried to bring more personality into the game with Dawnguard, but they also made the mistake of including a waifu so it all went about the waifu instead of character development.
Elder Skub Online has Orsinium which has some decent character writing.

Generaly writing was never a big part of TES, but i agree, Morrowind had some good characters, Crassius beeing a major example, not just that, he was also a Character who would normally be a clear villain, sexually abusing his henchmen and all, but actually hes probably the most decent guy within house hlaalu.

By that i mean Character writing, Characters in TES generaly were always quite static and stuff like Character development or any sort of longer Character Arc didnt realy happen, the exception beeing Redguard of course, mostly because Redguard is a Character focused game.

She definitely wasn't telling us the whole truth, but I don't think the soldiers were either. That scene where you can randomly find them threatening a redguard woman on the roads, mistaking her for Saadia, pretty much cemented them as the ones in the wrong in my opinion. It felt like they'd probably killed a few people before, and then checked to see if it was actually the right target afterwards.

Also, out of curiousity, I just looked up the quest on UESP, and noticed something interesting. If you give her to the Alik'r, your journal will read
>After making arrangements with Kematu, I've delivered Saadia to him. He assures me that she will be taken back to Hammerfell alive, though after that her fate is no longer in his hands.
Except the page ALSO says
>Saadia's body will appear in Whiterun's Hall of the Dead if you hand her over to the Alik'r.
This is likely just an oversight on Bethesda's part, but taken literally, it means the Alik'r lied to you.

I'd like to see more explicit lore on mundane things. Beauty, tastes, preferences, "wrong" preferences, etc.
Take fashion. Outside of the clothes being names "fine" or "extravagant", what about the clothes do people like? What kind of fashion trends has there been? Do certain colors work together differently than irl?
I know people talk about "show don't tell", but would it really be that weird for characters or books to identify why they wear a garment other than practicality or nonspecific "lavish apparel"? Seeing concept art is nice and little hints like the morag tong shirt is a plus, but we don't really hear or see much about how they feel about it, they just kind of accept it as it is.
I know most people here prefer star surfing and gundam battles tier of lore, and that's cool. I know bethesda has kind of been stepping back with that stuff after morrowind, not necessarily removing it but just not really doing anything with it, but they aren't doing much for the mundane things either.

Basically I wanna see "Tamriel's Next Top Model".

People need to stop using "Dragon break" as "alternate universe"

This is not what it means. Dragon Break means that several possibilities happened all at once and the Jillians fixed this mistake.

This does NOT imply that it never happened and it does NOT imply that it is somehow less legitimate.

Dragon Break mereley means that several mutually exclusive events somehow happen at the same time

The whole "Its not canon its a dragon break" thing is a stupid meme by people that dont understand TES metaphysics and just want to use it to declare one of the games that they dont like as "non canon"

It's really bad. Really, really, really bad.

Somewhere deep in the Druadach mountains, dwarven worker drones finish the task they were given several thousand years ago. They built a machine that pulls the soul unharmed out of a soul gem, and into an object. Like that, an infamous dwemer is reborn.

Then, and here comes the bad part, said Dwemer builds a machine, deep in the mountain, to sever the Druadach mountains from the rest of Tamriel. Farrun, Jelhanna, Evermor, Orsinium, Haafingar Hold, and the Reach all split from the mainland. And that's just the start of the megalomaniac Dwemers plans.

Last night I feel asleep designing how Solitude would realistically look like after the arch it stood upon broke and crashed into the ocean, the way the new Jarls palace would be planned, the Jarl himself, and the politics on the new island as the political entities of former high rock and skyrim tries to get a grip on the fact that they're on their own continent.
>>
>>51816765
That's different timeline though. You know during Dragon Breaks all timelines collide. I think that timeline were Cyrodiil is star empire is featured in Confession of Boma Kuro.

Moon Colonies and Reman era Imperial space program (aka Mananauts) aren't related to this.
>>
>>51816997
>That's different timeline though
Anon, the text pretty much flat out states that Cyrodiil was literally stretched across the Cosmos and then disintegrated back to Nirn upon the Break's ending.

Actually when Oblivion came out a lot of people went "Well oblivion is just not a jungle because it happens in a dragon break its an alternate universe guys" and then when skyrim came out "Alduin is only so small because its a dragon break" and of course the all famous "ESO is just a dragon break its an alternate timeline"

None of these things are correct of course, they are just symptoms of the fans of each game hating the next game that comes along.

Daggerfall fans would have done it to Morrowind but the fact that Daggerfalls ending was the Dragonbreak was one of the major reasons the Daggerfall fans hated Morrowinds lore in the first place.

And yes there are people who prefer Daggerfall lore over morrowind lore, they tend to be quite vocal in "TES purity" arguing, as in "What you started playing with Skyrim? well I started playing with Oblivion, the superior TES game" -"Wot? I started playing with MORROWIND you casual" upon which some disgruntled Daggerfall player shows up and goes "you havent played a real elderscrolls game when you werent taking 5 hours to clear a randomly generated dungeon and had to quicksave every time you walk up the stairs because you might fall through em"

>>51816997
Fucking this again
NO, Dragonbreaks are not alternate timelines. All things that happen within Dragonbreaks occur simultaniously, they are still there.

Boma Kuro is completley unrelated to this, Boma Kuro was just part of the Memospore ARG and is irrelevant to lore. Its just a funky TV show with names from TES and a few referenes to Memospore.

I really like that it sort of works both as a creation myth and as a model for Clan Mothers and Favoured Daughters.
Just like Fadomai tells Azurah her secrets, the act of telling this story involves the Clan Mother telling her secrets to her Favoured Daughter.

Hilariously, Molag Bal's quest is LESS evil than Boethiah and Mephala, since the Stendar guy gives in to the fear first if you wait patiently and the Boethiah cultist is a dickbag cultist.

Orsimer, if I can play one that's kind of weird in some way. I like having the scary monstrous race subvert expectations and turn out to be a philosophizing bard or a self-proclaimed knight or something along those lines.
If I'm sticking to a more traditional view of the races, probably Breton. I love that questing is seen as a totally normal and expected thing for young people to do as they grow up in their culture. It's hilarious. Plus, can't beat that natural magic resist.

Valenwod sounds the most fantastical to me, with the giant mobile tree cities and all. If our next game is set there, I hope they do it justice and it doesn't get the treatment Cyrodiil did in Oblivion.

The fate of the Falmer is the big one. To summarize; the snow elves were getting wrecked by an army of crazed/drunk Nord barbarians, and tried to retreat to the Dwemer for help. The Dwemer, with boundless generosity, decided the best way to keep them safe was to round up every last snow elf they could find, enslave them, force feed them magic toxic fungus until the entire race went blind, and then did... something, that bumped their literal souls down a notch from white (sapient, intelligent beings) to black (monsters and beasts).

Then the Dwemer poofed themselves out of existence, a few thousand years go by, and the snow elves have physically and mentally degraded into the psychotically violent, eyeless, poison drenched cave squatters we know today.

The moral here is, take better care of your pets, for the sake of future generations.

I think they ran out of ideas. Kinda like Skrim having a reduced staff of dungeon makers making even more dungeons than in Oblivion, Zeni had a small team designing the entire continent instead of a single province...and various planes of Oblivion. At some point you're just tapped.

i think the Argonian architecture for one is pretty much spot on.
But its not pretty so nobody talks about it. But Mud huts that look like weird Onions made out of feces is exactly what i would imagien argonians living in.
The same goes for the Orc Architecture, sure its not fancy high fantasy shit but its sturdy and a big step above the weird tents from skyrim.

Basically the Art team was overstretched and clearly wasted a lot of potential by doing everything at once.
and it shows when you compare the vanilla game to the post release content in terms of asset quaity and how many different things there actually are.

At least they didnt make the mistake of Showing Alinor, only realy touching on Auridon aka the "Foreign Quarter" of the summersets.

>>
>>51824928
Exactly, Reman took the name Cyrodiil to solidify himself AS Cyrodiil
>Traditionally, anyone strong enough to take the Imperial Throne is known as the ‘Cyrodiil,’ no matter the province kingdom of their birth. It’s a complicated the-king-is-the-land kind of thing that reaches back to the time when the Elves ruled the area before it was taken from them by the First Empire of the Nords. “Cyrodiil” is a pretty blanket term for every element of the Imperial Province: its common provincial name is Cyrodiil, the capital city is named Cyrodiil, the people are the Cyrodiils, and the Emperor is “The Cyrodiil.” A lot of people still think it comes from the surname of Reman Cyrodiil, who built the region into the Second Empire of Men, but, really, he just took its ancient Elven name and stuck it onto his own (sorta like somebody in our world calling themselves “Jonny America”)

How about yes? There's a reason why TES threads are kept to the weekends. Because without that rule, people would run out of things to say, and it'd devolve into useless funposting.

It's a schedule you know. Friday night to Sunday night is serious lore discussion time, Monday to tuesday or however long the thread lasts is shitposting time. It lets you do both in a controlled enviroment without infringing on other peoples serious discussion, you know?

Yeah, mostly because the lava flows into and destroys it. Even in hawaii there was grass growing all over the places where it commonly erupted but no lava had flowed in a while.
Plus even in Morrowind you had plants that had adapted to grow right next to lava and survive frequent ash storms.

They took an insult from Morrowind, and slapped it on a creature. It may be a cool creature, but that's just shit.

Silt Striders is a good name, as is Cliffracer. I really don't see why you think they're the same because it's descriptive.

How? Maybe the creature is known for being an extreme pest, considering it's a mobile hive of giant flies.

I mean, if we're gonna be technical and lore here daedric forms are actually conditional, their creatia morphing to resemble their environment is actually accurate to some extent. It's basically the excuse they use as to why daedra look different per game.
>>
>>51830655
>We are not born; we have not fathers nor mothers, yet we have kin and clans.
>The clan-form is strong. It shapes body and thought.
>In the clan-form is strength and purpose.

>We serve by choice. We serve the strong, so that their strength might shield us.
>Clans serve by long-practice, but practice may change.

So I'd say, it depends on the clan itself, not on the sovereign.
Then again, Daedra Princes are known to be able to shape minor daedra:

>The Duke of Scamps came while the banquet was still underway, and Molag Bal looked on the seven pennants with anger. The King of Rape had become necessary and therefore troubled for the rest of time. His legions and Kh-Utta's fell into open war, but the children of Molag Bal and Vivec were too elaborate in power and form.
>The Duke of Scamps therefore became a lesser thing, as did all his own children. Molag Bal said to them: 'You are the sons of liars, dogs, and wolf-headed women.' They have been useless to summon ever since.
>>
>>51830683
What happens if a daedra is formed in a neutral area
>>
>>51830715
Dunno. The only neutral area we've really been to is Maelstrom, but that just had travelers and Fa-Nuit-Hen, the daedric midget, who has his own issues.

Also it also seems to be that princes affect personalities as well. Coldharbour dremora for example are the biggest fucking suckups in existence. Like holy christ they gobble Molag's balls nonstop.
>>
>>51830748
All dremora secretly want to be dominated though

>>

>>51830683
The Daedra in Oblivion and Cyrodiil are the same. Theoretically TES IV was so bland and generic that we finally got to see what Daedra look like without any extra environmental morphology
>>
>>51830974
>The Daedra in Oblivion and Cyrodiil are the same

Yeah but they're Dagon dremora specifically invading Cyrodiil
>>
>>51830989
>Dagon dremora
Dremora are normally associated with Dagon, like how Golden Saints are associated with Sheogorath and Winged Twilights with Azura.
>>
>>51831035
True, but they also serve other princes at times.
>>
>>51831091
Yeah, but considering that they are Dagon's, they'd probably look most Dremora-y in Dagon's realm.

Because a fetcher is, even still within the context of the games, an arrow-maker. It's a referential insult, you don't call a mosquito a "racist" or a "cuck" (except when you do).

trying too fucking hard to get offended.

the point is that Vvardenfell is unstable as shit so when you get vegetation too bad you have a lava stream there. You know just like it is in Hawai.
Volcanic as is fertile as shit, as a resutl in highly volcanic areas you ofthen have dense vegetation which is then promptly set on fire.

>Permanent lava streams
Thereis no such thing as a permanent lava stream. Or are you gonna complain that the Morrowind engine couldnt handle dynamic terrain deformation? because thats the entire reaosn why the morrowind lava streams were permanent.

>>51829752
>take an aardvark
>take away its front legs

This is the one thing i dont like here, thats fucking stupid, especialy since its a mammal.
I get it, Alit and Kagouti only have two legs. But guess what these animals are probably related and as such they look simmilar.
thats just stupid.

>>51829802
>cliffracer and silt strider
I dont think thats the point.
The point is that Cliffracers are already in the game they arent encouterable enemies, but they are iconic as fuck so they had to come up with something thats essentially cliffracers for the nostalgia bait without having to make up a system where you can fight a permanently flying enemy without it looking retarded.

So they ended up just making another thing that has a simmilar name and looks simmilar.
They already have another creature in the game thats related to cliffracers.

>>51829877
