>What is Exalted?
An epic high-flying role-playing game about reborn god-heroes in a world that turned on them.
Start here: http://theonyxpath.com/category/worlds/exalted/

>That sounds cool, how can I get into it?
Read the 3e core book (link below). For mechanics of the old edition, play this tutorial: http://jyenicolson.net/exalted/. It'll get you familiar with most of the mechanics.

>Gosh that was fun. How do I find a group?
Roll20 and the Game Finder General here on /tg/. With the new edition, though, chances are more games will crop up.

Well, seeing as favored skills are literally things you want your character to be good at now or later, you're probably invest heavily into them. Whether you want Caste skills depends on how much you want to buy into the caste archetype(s), but you probably always will need to pick and choose.

Doe anyone have any or have seen any Exalts that are not from Creation? I'm talking about god-blooded that have descended from Yu-Shan, ghost-blooded that have traveled through a Shadowland and into Creation, demon-blooded or human slaves that have escaped Malfeas, so on and so forth.
>>
>>51787989
I mean, Alchemicals are, by definition, Exalts that are not from Creation.

The god-blooded, ghost-blooded, and demon-blooded stuff is all plausible and there probably have been NPCs like that, but IIRC human slaves are not quite possible because ordinary humans always die within five days in the confines of Hell.
>>
>>51788263

>I mean, Alchemicals are, by definition, Exalts that are not from Creation.

I was kind of going for the "Outsider gains Celestial Exaltation" angle.

>ordinary humans always die within five days in the confines of Hell.

There's something a bit funny about this, page 76-77 of CoCD:Malfeas says "Human slaves and visitors to the Demon City must be give special medicines or treatments lest they perish within seven days" but on page 86 it's mentioed that dream parlors employ thousands of humans to provide the imagination needed to sell dreams and nightmares. There's also a whole section on pages 155-156 on mortals in Malfeas including stats, so it is a possible concept. Imagine a Zenith who Exalted when entertaining demons, a Night who Exalted escaping his Infernal master, or a Dawn who managed to make his way to a Martial Arts academy (such as Suntarankal) and Exalted there.

Even a story about needing to constantly steal supplies so you can survive longer than 7 days is a good starting point.
>>
>>51782662
My circle is fighting with a Deathlord that sacked Chiaroscuro, while rebuilding a buried First Age city. Right now we're trying to get the Lap to export food again after a rebellion.
>>
My circle just got to Yu-Shan, and one of us is sitting on five dots of Cult.

Other than the obvious "cubic fuckloads of jade", what's some good shit we can make out ambrosia in 3e?
>>
>>51790741

Well, "cubic fuckloads of jade" becomes doubly great if you've got a crafter on hand, other than that? Shit that's hard to come by, such as mystical crafting ingredients needed for high level artefacts or shit that can be used as a means for Sorcerous Workings.
>>
>>51790741
Just buy whatever you need.
>>
So I'd like some advice. I am having my very first game of exalted, and many things are new and alien to me here (Warhammer/D&D babby here)

My circle doesn't do anything together at all. It's like 5 sessions into the game, and everyone goes fuck-all, when it is obvious that we are up against powers that not one of us could hope to win against.

Basically the script is that one or two players blows off to do their own thing out of their own compulsion/motivation, (most likely in separate directions) and the rest usually have to run after them.

Is this usual exalted issue and I should find some way to deal with it, or I am playing with doweeds and should find a better game?
>>
>>51790892
> when it is obvious that we are up against powers that not one of us could hope to win against.

This doesn't exist. The Exalted already beat up the Primordials and basically nothing is a greater threat than that.
>>
>>51791090
Yeah, but the Exalted beat the Primordials *together*, not one-on-one. The idea that there are things no single Exalt can stand against isn't a weird one.
>>
>>51791090
"Not one of us" as in "you can't just solo it"

The primordials were defeated by 300 Solars, Lunars, lot of Sidereals, and armies of Dragon-Blooded, armed by Primordial Weaponry.

Solo Solars, and whole circles get hunted down by some competent Dragon-Blooded Wyld hunt alone.
>>
>>51790892

That's kind of the problem with beings of godlike power, getting them where you want is like herding cats. You'll need to sit your players down and tell them that they need a single agreed upon goal that they can work together to achieve, otherwise everyone is just going to be sitting on their asses while you run multiple solo sessions.
>>
>>51791271
But I'm not the Storyteller, I don't dictate the movement of the session. If I try to throw my weight around it will probably end up in PC -murder-fest.
The one time I tried to settle on a common goal, I've been waved off, as on the the Dawn caste went on his vengeance against the Dynasts
>>
>>51791418
>>51791271
>as on the the Dawn caste went one his vengeance against the Dynasts
Which by the way wasn't even his motivation, just some background intimacy.
>>
>>51790892
That's pretty normal. You bounce back and forth between various circle members' goals with other people tagging along to lend a hand and supervise. Then there's a group meeting, or the Wyld Hunt or some Deathknights show up and everyone hurriedly regroups.
>>
>>51791090
As others already said, there are plenty of things a single Solar can't do or overcome. Banding together when facing a common enemy should be common sense, even for Solars.
>>
So, I got a guy who's playing a mortal in our Solar game. Well, he says he is, anyway. He's also gone behind the circle's back to steal shit from an unearthed First Age ruin we were investigating, and then got caught lying about it. How far can a PC go before the circle just doesn't have an IC reason to bring him with us on our travels?
>>
By any chance has anyone successfully downloaded, compiled, and run either of the two chargen programs?
>>
>>51794268
Depends on the circle, but a mortal, ie. someone whose contribution could be matched or exceeded with minimal investmen, who also steals and lies, sounds like someone who'd ICly be left behind. That's if the Solars re being kind.

Anathema is on Github, but you need Gradle to run it.

Anathema Reincarnated can be downloaded off of Bitbucket. That's the one made by the new kids on the block and is the furthest along pic related is their UI. They say next month but they've slipped up before. Also, it runs using Clojure.

>Drawing the ire of a Hekatonkhire at Ess2.

The Bronze Faction was right. It's in Creation now, right. Creatures of Death take penalties outside of the Underworld, it's not much, but everything counts at this stage. Start making bargains and striking deals, by the way, you need everything you can get if you want this thing off of your back.
>>
>>51796083
>The Bronze Faction was right.
Yup, we kinda unanimously agreed on that after the session was over.

>It's in Creation now, right. Creatures of Death take penalties outside of the Underworld, it's not much, but everything counts at this stage.
Yep, it's in Creation now. Actively hunting us and eating whatever it stumbles across along the way.

>Start making bargains and striking deals, by the way, you need everything you can get if you want this thing off of your back.
Yeah, we're figuring that out right now. So far, we've considered the following as potential options;

1.) Mask of Winters, using diplomatic immunity and probably owing him a favor as a result, which scares us.
2.) Lookshy, which comes without the favor but could hurt them enough to give the Realm or the Mask an opening
3.) Sidereals, because our Twilight had a gold-faction chosen of secrets as an adoptive mother who will probably help us out (and whoop her adoptive son for getting involved in this bullshit)
4.) The Realm, because my Eclipse still has ties to the Realm, but we'd have to convince them this is a problem they should solve -and- we'd have to wait for them to actually get here.
5.) Silver Pact, because we have a Lunar in the group and (most) of them will probably want to kill this thing too. Though we might want to keep our involvement in its summoning a secret.

We're going over out options at the moment. The Mask seems like the safest solution, but I really don't like the idea of owing him a favor, especially since it will probably be sealed by an Eclipse/Moonshadow oath.
>>
>>51796230

I can't imagine any real reason that MoW would even give you the time of day, he'd probably consider your situation a good thing for him. See if you can get as many as the other four as possible to work together, though.
>>
>>51796283
The Mask is an option for a couple different reasons. For one, the Hekatonkhires chasing us doesn't really care about allegiances, it'll eat living and undead alike. For two, the Mask isn't interested in destroying Creation so much as he is in toying with it; His control over Thorns and the tension with the confederacy of rivers is all just a game to him. And third, depending on whether the ST subscribes to the idea of Deathlords using Voice circle necromancy, he -might- be able to just bind it to his will, and thus have it -and- Juggernaught. But even putting that aside, it's an unexpected thing that might end up scrucking up his plans, and also it's a chance to have a group of Solars in his debt, some of which are very firm on morality, which I'm sure he would love to abuse and you with them over.

The issue with the other four is that the Realm and Lookshy -definitely- won't work together, and plus if they find out we're anathema (which they probably will during the Hekatonkhires fight), they'll be after us like flies to roadkill as soon as the Hekatonkhires is dead. Sidereals also comes with the issue of making our names and faces known to the bronze faction, and then there's the issue of Lookshy potentially getting weakened and conquered by either the Mask, the Realm, or another Deathlord, and either result wouldn't be good since our Twilight comes from Lookshy and would be -very- distraught if something happened to them. Hence why we're mulling over our options.

>why not GM one?
I don't know enough players who'd be interested.

Also, shit's hard. I can run Shadowrun, which has a fascinating horrible overcomplicated system as well, but which lets you rely on the central theme of "the PCs want money and will be taking missions from NPCs". That makes things so much easier than Exalted, regardless of the ruleset.

How the fuck are you supposed to run this game? It's an uphill struggle against recruiting players who've even heard of the system, and against plotting a campaign that features overpowered demigods who are supposed to be willful and stubborn as the principle protagonists, AND against the 600 page rulebook. That's three struggles before I even get to the table. Or I can send one lunchtime email and get five players for a 5e DnD game using one of the rather good pre-built adventure modules.

Seriously. How? I love reading about this setting, but fucking how?

A friend of mine loves Exalted and has talked a lot about it and how cool it is. I'm all for the WoD system, it's cool, but as I understand it from talking to him, you're supposed to be superhuman powerful able to take on armies at later points. But I don't understand where these capabilities come from; I played old Werewolf and I get that they're fucking powerhouses in a fight, but where does the power come from in Exalted?
>>
>>51806471
Charms. They're basically spells, discreet packages of rule-breaking power paid for with your Essence pools.
>>
>>51806471

Are they the things that make me able to go Kratos through an entire army?

>>
>>51806640
Mechanically Solars (and other Exalted to a lesser extend) start with maxed out or almost maxed out stats in their era of expertise (that is going by the dot system that is used in the WoD games).
In addition to that they get very easy access to charms, which allow you to, at the lower end of the power level, double your dice pool on almost every possible roll and on the higher end of the power curve you can cheat the system in numerous way.
There's charms that literally turn you invisible, allow you to jump entire mountain ranges, turn super sayan, reshape reality to your will and have sex so amazing people lust after you for weeks to come.

How difficult is it to use these charms or activate them? When we played Werewolf, I loved going full Crinos and just ripping shit apart with my claws, and it's a feeling I often crave in certain games, and if that's truly possible in Exalted in at least a fairly easy way, then I am much more interested in trying it than before.
>>
>>51806471

I'm not sure I will be able to give you a good explanation because english is my second language.

Simple answer: Essence

Long answer: In the beginning there was only Essence. Pure untapped energy. Out of that energy titans shaped the Creation, gods, physical laws, creatures etc. It is cosmic-code. primal energy that is capable of creating anything.

how did the Exalts get the access to it? well firstly one titan created the Exaltation. Secondly the most powerful gods (Sun, Luna, 5 Maidens) literally ripped the part of their own being and granted it to certain amount of people. For example, Sun had to diminish itself in power (forever) so it could give Exaltation to 100 dudes. And he didn't even invent to exaltation. I find it a cool story element that this was the first time Sun had to set from the sky.
>>
>>51806741

Usually activating them is pretty simple. You spend "mana" and you cast "spells". Problem is when you spend a lot of mana (either huge amount at once, or decent amount over a few rounds) you start to glow like a lighthouse or dbz super-saiyan. Why is that a problem? Almost entire world is trying to kill you. You have depleted your "mana resources" and you are shining beacon to those that are trying to find you and kill you.
>>
>>51806741
>How difficult is it to use these charms or activate them?
It's trivial. Using charms and essence comes as natural to an exalt as using our body comes to us.

On the charm it says what sort of action it takes to use it. Usually its either reflexiv (meaning no action) or simple action (meaning you would perform the charm, in combat, instead of attacking).

You can activate multiple charms at the same time if they're all reflexiv or the charm explicitly states that you can use multiple charms.

A simple example:
You're Solar McHuge and you want to obliterate Peasant McFuckface.
You would roll 10 dice normally because you have 5/5 dex and 5/5 melee.

Then you use some of your magical jizz to pay for "Excelent Strike" which gives you an automatic success and allows you to reroll any ones that appear.

You also use some more magical jizz to pay for "Solar Melee Excellency" which you use to buy yourself 8 more dice on the attack.

Also you did a really cool description of your attack so your GM awards you a stunt, lets say you get the most basic type of stunt, this gives you an extra 2 dice.
So now you're throwing 20 dice around with rerolling ones and an automatic success on top of it.

Also after the round is over you get about half of the magical energies you just spent for that attack back.

Oh also the peasant is completly obliterated as the target number you had to beat for a mortal was probably around 2 oder 3.

>>
>>51806923

I almost forgot. Although Essence is energy that can create anything, imagine that humans have limited understanding. That is why human "spells" are weaker, focused into singular purpose and narrow concepts like archery, craft, sailing etc.
>>
>>51806923
Me again. Been skimming through certain parts of the 3e book now, most specifically the combat rules and some charm stuff, after reading through the 1d4chan article. Was just wondering, after looking at some of the gear, is this world more towards Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon or more towards Berserk? Cause I am feeling the former more from the martial arts and oriental thing but then I see stuff like articulated armors and very european-looking weapons and some of the artwork. Is it both?
>>
So what happens if a person dies in Autochthonia without a soul gem? Where does their ghost go?
>>
If a ship was constantly dumping a couple hundred gallons of blood into Creation's oceans, what sort of creatures would be drawn to it? Sharks, obviously, but what else?
>>
>>51808594
If it's night time, the hungry ghosts of drowned sailors. Otherwise, raksha whose personal stories entail them being bloodthirsty, rowdy sea beasts from the Wyld, and so on.

The real question is, why the fuck do you have a boat dumping that much blood in the ocean?
>>
>>51808512

Exalted is all over the place. While people will say differently, and even the book is trying to say otherwise, it also suffers from Tolkien fantasy and dnd stereotypes. We have elves and gryphons, hobgoblins, sharkmen. Cleric class has turn undead etc.

You can take of it what you want. For example I prefer for it to be visually inspired with wuxia films, chinese video game concept artists, magi-tech and grand design in general.
>>
>>51808512
It is everything you want it to be. Aesthetics vary depending on characters, geography, what tone the table's shooting for.
>>
>>51808512
It's both. Kind of like the real world, which also had oriental and medieval stuff at the same time. The Creation is a big place, with plenty of cultural variety.
>>
>>51808630
We have creatures called hobgoblins that don't have much to do with DnD hobgoblins. There are no real elf amalgoies, either - the Fair Folk sure as hell aren't eves, and while the Artisans of the Mountain Folk are the closest thing to Tolkien-esque elves Exalted has, they're still pretty different.
>>
>>51808734
>real elf amalgoies
No idea what happened here, but that should be analogies.
>>
>>51808594
After a year and a day, a thumping resounds from deep underwater, then for a year and a day, the ship's captain dreams oracles of great victories at sea.

After that, should the blood stop flowing, the captain shall wake up one morning lacking an eye. Should it not flow after that, they'll wake up lacking a hand. Particularly stubborn captains will lose a leg. No one know what happens to those who fail to get the message, for their crew will find nothing but an empty cabin in the morning.

>>
>>51808734

problem is exalted had a possibility to be different than dnd. And at times it fools you. Everytime you see it as something different it goes with a slap in the face and stereotypes that are based on dnd.

You want creatures from the Void, beyond creation that see it as abomination and want to destroy it? Well here you go. We will give you elves (even illustrated as a pretty fairies with tree, leaf and plant motives. So much for terrors from the Void), gryphons, shark people. ghouls, hobgoblins.

You want to play a leader of men? Play zenith caste. Also don't forget your turn undead special ability. Fighter with intimidate power. Rogue with "hide" special ability because he should be sneaky and using Essence shouldn't reveal him. So we have a Cleric, Fighter, Rogue. What are we missing? Ah yes. A wizard. We even have those. Can't go without the wizard.

I could go on but I won't. If you don't see it doesn't mean basic dnd and tolkien sterotypes aren't there.

Elves - Fair Folk totally different.

Fairy bastards that live in a magical realm that is both fascinating and dangerous. Tricksters. Liars. Twisting the words and deals. They feed on humans souls, dreams, life energy leaving empty shells.

That is totally different from classical representation of elves, fairies and Unseelie.

Basic features of *fantasy* are there. Because it's, you know, fantasy. There are no real elf analogies, though, and the way Castes work, both mechanically and fluff-wise, is pretty damn far removed from the way DnD Castes work.

>>51809490
First of all, the claim was that Exalted has things reminiscent of Tolkien and DnD. The Fair Folk are nothing like either Tolkien's elves or DnD elves. Secondly, of course creatures called the Fair Folk borrow from stories about the Fair Folk. This is a given. It takes a very selective reading of the setting material to see them as literally just traditional fairies thrown into Exalted, though. Also:

>Dressed in green and brown. Plant motifs.

What? I guess there are rakshas who do wear green and brown and have plant motifs, but that isn't exactly a common or defining feature.

What kind of currency do they use in Lookshy? It's not a satrapy of the Realm so it doesn't make sense for it to use silver as a primary currency, but maybe it makes sense that they use it to trade with the Guild? Would they just use straight jade?

How would a clitorectomy stop celestial bliss trick, which is a supernatural effect based on essence use?
>>
>>51818042
I suppose you could argue that if someone was unable to feel sexual pleasure, then any social influence that was made via sexual pleasure could be considered an Unacceptable Influence, much like if someone tried to use a writing based Influence on a blind person. Ultimately, though, this comes down to Red Rule and your personal game preferences, so basically that one faggot just wants to make Celestial Bliss Trick out to be terrible because he sees rape in everything.

Yes, I know.
>>
>>51818152
Well, then it should be obvious why the bits that make sex feel good would be needed for the Charm to work.
>>
>>51818134
Also a reminder that the Charm itself talk about giving *a lover* intense pleasure. Sure, it doesn't specify that only a willing partner would count as a lover, but it takes one skeevy mind to see rape implications in the Charm text.
>>
>>51818175

It isn't mundane talent though, it's supernatural magics that shouldn't be limited by mere flesh.
>>
>>51818227
I don't see the logic in that. A Solar swordsman still needs fleshy bits to wield a sword, and he needs to put that sword through the fleshy bits of others to kill them. Why should a Solar (man)slut be different? Enhancing that mere flesh and making a particularly good use of it fits the Solar themes, just ignoring flesh does not.
>>
>>51817965

They use Jade. Everyone would use Jade if possible and Jade was the currency of the Old Realm. The only reason people use Silver is because the Guild introduced it as a currency in the Threshold which was only in the last century or so. They did it precisely because the Dragonblooded don't care about it and there is a Jade shortage due to the Dragonblooded hoarding it. In places like the Realm and Lookshy it probably will not be accepted and you would have to change it for Jade or Jade Script.
>>
>>51818497
Would Jade be acceptable currency for all citizens in Lookshy, or just Dragon-Blooded citizens? What about for helots and metics?
>>
>>51818527

depends on rarity of material. If the material is found only in small amounts it will be more precious and more valuable.
>>
>>51818527

Probably. There is not a lot of information on Lookshy's economics. They may use some form of Jade Script like the Realm or use bits of Jade like the Realm did for minor transactions centuries earlier before it was banned.

Silver may be more accepted in Lookshy due to their proximity to the Guild and trade partnership but internally they would use and prefer Jade.
>>
>>51818527
Helots? Metics?
>>
>>51819152
Lookshy basically has four classes of residents - citizens, helots, indentured servants, and metics.
All citizens are free, but they may be called upon for military service at any time should the need arise. Citizenship doesn't have a wealth requirement, so there are both wealthy and poor citizens, but they are both given respect because either they or their family has done great service to Lookshy. When citizens grow old they are taken care of by the state.

Helots are greater in number than citizens, and they have almost all the same privileges as citizens, but they may not speak in Council, nor may they own land, and they cannot leave Lookshy without papers. They can join trade organizations and elect someone to speak on their behalf, and they may own any personal property other than land. They do most of the work in Lookshy, and make up most of the infantry in the military. Every year, helots have the opportunity to gain citizenship at the discretion of the Council. There are wealthy helots and poor helots, and it is entirely possible for helots to become wealthier than citizens. They are also cared for by the state when they grow old.

Anyone may become an indentured servant in Lookshy, though it is by contract and it must be notarized. Contracts may not exceed 5 years. During this time they essentially give up the rights and responsibilities of their former status, but they may not be abused by their contract holders. When the contract is up they regain whatever status they had before they became indentured.

Metics are foreigners who legally reside in Lookshy. Traders, students, things like that. They have fewer rights and responsibilities than helots, and they may not enter certain parts of Lookshy without papers. If there is a legal dispute between a Metic and a Citizen or a Helot, the Metic will probably lose simply because they are a Metic.
>>
>>51819152

Lookshy has Helots. Don't recall metics in the book off hand by name but they might be in there. I am not that anon so I can't say for sure. They both have the traditional meaning from Sparta in Lookshy as Lookshy is a Japanese-Spartan civilization.
>>
>>51819410
IIRC Lookshy treats its helots hell of a lot better than Sparta did, tough.

>>51819620

So, I recently offered to run a game for my group. I figured they would choose Pathfinder or D&D 5th edition or something like that. Instead one of them suggested Exalted 3rd edition and everyone else agreed.

Now, my group used to play Exalted way back in 1st edition. But several of the players didn't care for 2nd edition and we never played Exalted after that.

I've read through the book for 3rd edition and it actually looks pretty neat (I just hope the whole Initiative system plays as well as it sounds) but I'm completely at a loss for a story/chronicle idea, so I'm hoping some of you guys could give me suggestions.

The players want to play pirate-type characters, so they were originally thinking it would be set in the West, though I guess this new Dreaming Sea in the Southeast could also work.

What's a good overarching storyplot? Something something Deathlord? Trying to conquer a kingdom? Fighting against Lintha or Fair Folk? I have no fucking clue so any suggestions would be appreciated.
>>
>>51822237
Solars tend to forge their own plots but if you want to play in the West you could focus your story around that Deathlord citystate / nation that exists over there. I can't recall the name but maybe taking that down could be the ultimate goal of the characters.

Hello all, not sure if anyone remembers but last year one of my players, and the other ST of a dual game, posted pic related about their character Sunset Ember becoming an Abyssal.

We later wrapped up those two campaigns in an explosive 3 day long megasession which involved 11 PCs and a veritable army of NPCs, we thought we'd eventually share but time makes fools of us all and we haven't done so yet, but we're getting to the point where we can actually have it written up.

Basically, would anyone be interested in very long winded storytime? My co-ST tends to be quite verbose. We weren't planning to post it all at once because it's definitely at the tl;dr length, but probably over a couple of days. Yay or nay?

>(I just hope the whole Initiative system plays as well as it sounds)

It does for the most part. I actually like it a lot as its basically your attack and a second HP bar. It gets too low and you know you are in trouble without actually being in real danger yet. But you know you have to do something to save your ass before you end up at -2 Health levels and enjoying that sweet sweet penalty.

>What's a good overarching storyplot?

I normally let my players decide that. I look at the characters they want to play and then see where their goals will take them. Then I add things to get in the way to try and not make it too easy. Add in all the existing stuff in the setting and you are usually solid. The West however is a bit bare. I homebrewed quite a bit for my game. Make sure you read 2e's West book. It adds quite a bit of information to the areas already listed.

I know of a few:

- Player investment, no really make a session 0 which is all about setting up their characters and possible motivations/ideas. There may be no gameplay or RP, but I find this critical as it gets everyone used to each other and more importantly the overall direction the game will head in.

- One of the players is the reincarnation of someone the Deathlord hates and wishes to ruin them as a form of petty revenge. Did that players previous reincarnation kill the deathlord or worse publicly embarrass them?

- The Lintha are getting shockingly active as of late, with them aggressively setting up Yozi cults rather than trying to remain in the shadows. What happened?

- With the Realm civil war about to head into full swing, the local Realm officers have begun making unrealistic tribute demands from the locals. Crops are harvested until the soil is worthless while rumors exist of them even doing forced labour in minds that exist in the West. The work is one thing, but people are afraid what'd happen to them after the Realm leaves with a Fae Court so close...

Ah megasession. Nine months I have put off writing this shit, and for nine months my co-ST has been bugging me about not writing it. At last, for people who give any kind of fuck about it, here is the write up for Megasession. A three day marathon gaming session concluding with an assault on the Jade Pleasure Dome.

This story is told in three parts over three days. In the first part, the two parties meet and defeat a mighty Behemoth. In the second part, the party deals with a terrible outbreak of the Puppeteer’s Plague throughout the North. In the third part, we assaulted Heaven, took the powerful artifacts known as the Keys of Creation, and tried to stop the Scarlet Empress from claiming dominion over Heaven Itself.

Before we begin though, here’s a list of characters.
>>
>>51827072
My Party

Team Splendid

>Hadariel, the Legion of One - The son of one of the Gentes of Lookshy, a loveable idiot, and a truly terrifying melee based combat monster who was more interested in friendship speeches than murder and by the end of the game had acquired a truly staggering amount of waifus, who, in true Shonen protagonist fashion, he was completely oblivious of.

>Angua, Smoke in the Night - The Night Caste. A stealthy assassin and Dodge supernal. Consistently high on some form of drug or other, most commonly pot, but also occasionally super pot. She disdains killing, but does not at all mind breaking literally every bone in somebody’s body to teach them not to do evil things. She commonly sleeps with other party members, specifically the two Eclipse castes.

>Incubus aka Ink - A Linguistics supernal and the consistent bane of my existence and enjoyment. Once used literary nukes to cause absolute havoc in the Realm government ultimately causing hundreds of thousands of deaths due to screwing up supply lines, confusing military commanders, and throwing the entirety of House Mnemon’s bureaucratic organization into absolute chaos. Also a seductive slinky twink focused on seduction.
>>
>>51827092
>Hassan aka “M” - A Bureaucracy supernal who once ruined Heaven’s entire economy by kicking every last astrological curse and destructive magic out of the Celestial Bureaucracy. He is the mastermind behind the funding necessary to keep this party’s main city functional despite the truly ruinous cost of their projects. Often cornered and annoyed/seduced by both Angua and Ink despite not particularly liking either one. Just wants to do work in his office. JUST WANTS TO WORK.

>Nuada Danu, The Triumphant Forge - A Zenith caste war supernal and conqueror who has his eyes set on all of Creation. That being said, he’s far more interested in enjoying the benefits of leadership and is patently uninterested in dealing with the hardships. A self described figurehead, he sets up a military industrial complex to drive his complex, and also a state religion in which he and the other Solars in his party are worshipped as a pantheon.

>Musa Aurellum, Genius of the Twilight Art- Thicc brown girl craftsman supreme. The genius behind literally every crafted thing ever made in either of these games. Her most powerful invention? An Artifact 5 bong made of all five types of jade and Chiaroscuro glass. It made everyone chill. Eventually the bong was requisitioned by the Bureau of Serenity in exchange for enough money to build a flying city and fund a giant party. She and Hadariel were the true heroes of this tale.
>>
>>51827108
Now my Co-DM’s party which at one point was already stated but why not? Let’s go again.

Team Grimdark

>The Tear-Stained Singer Who Drowns In Truth - A Moonshadow Caste Abyssal Presence Supernal, formerly an Eclipse Caste Solar. Her dark exodus to the heart of the Underworld, and the metaphysical betrayal of her closest confidant/lover, Anju, stripped her of the divine light of the Sun. Seeking to unify her city in both the Underworld and Creation, she has opened trade with ancient ghosts and discovered forbidden and terrible secrets.

>Anju, Six-Fist Sanguine - A four-armed monkey girl Wyld mutant. Brawl Supernal. Her likes include dunking things, drinking booze, and then dunking things in booze and eating them. Acting as Truth’s primary enforcer and the muscle of the group, her terrifying speed and strength allow her to quickly dismantle most foes that the party faces. Besides her aforementioned ties, she mostly just likes fighting.

>Hassar, the Feathered Death - The unfortunately similarly named Night Caste who is a Dawn and does Dawn things. If you thought he was a Night caste you were mistaken. He came in at Essence 4 and was a Dodge supernal until the ST noticed he had more Ride charms than Dodge charms and penance-stared him into fixing it. His horse is his actual character and brutally destroyed things before Hassar could even draw his bow.
>>
>>51827178
>Pebble the Boulder - Zenith caste resistance supernal, an unstoppable 10 foot tall Mr. Clean. He started a cult of clean and served as the go-to guy for spiritual enlightenment in the city of Highstorm where this party made its headquarters. Suspicious of Truth after her transformation into an Abyssal. Genjo, the Even Scaled Serpent was his partner in a host of terrible crimes of ignorance.

>Genjo, the Even-Scaled Serpent - A medicine supernal Twilight who cruelly demolished any feasible threat the party’s mortality may have presented. He has cured plagues, brought party members back from the brink of death, and come up with 1001 lateral uses for ice related evocations. Other than that, his contributions were largely coming up with sorcerous workings to advance the plot (As opposed to making ships fly and opening evil portals to the underworld THANKS TRUTH.)

Now that you know the cast, let’s begin the tale.
>>
>>51827234
Immediately following the defeat of a First Age Solar’s magical flying Fuck You Fortress, that First Age Solar decided to use God King’s Shrike on the city of Tuatha which is the headquarters of Team Splendid, AKA my group, foretelling the awakening of a Behemoth of unparalleled destruction. This was immediately prior to him being friendship speeched by Hadariel, who has at this point started a sizeable collection of NPC’s.

Seeking aid, Nuada contacted the one person from Team Grimdark he had ever met. The Night Caste horse-dragon murder rider, Hassar. Cut to a hot-tub scene in which Team Grimdark is relaxing and an Infallible Messenger calls us in.

The party is more or less interested in aiding, but Truth isn’t so keen, mostly because she has no idea what the upside is for Highstorm. After forcing Nuada to agree to a Moonshadow oath to come to the aid of Highstorm should it be necessary, they agree to travel south on their magical flying ship, the “Terrible Truth.”

The parties meet, and the pissing contests begin. Team Splendid greets Team Grimdark with a truly magnificent display of flexing and Anima Banner shenanigans. Our group responds in kind. Metaphysical flexing continues for about 20 or so minutes out of game as ever more splendid (or terrifying) anima effects are described. Finally, a conversation about what the hell Team Grimdark is here for is made.
>>
>>51827383
We head east to head off the Behemoth riding the Terrible Truth there. Ghostly booze is served, Truth does some mournful singing, and the next day we find the trail of the Behemoth. A massive gouging path cut by the beast’s unstoppable movement through the forests.

Truth be told, the Behemoth is probably the least impressive story of the three, largely because of just how fucking hard the thing ended up getting dunked. It does manage to destroy a massive city before it is intercepted, and Nuada sacrifices a huge portion of his troops to stall it before it can stride further into the Hundred Kingdoms, and it’s actually pretty heartfelt.

>Sir, the beast marches on the gates… it’s massive! If we stay here, I don’t know if we will be able to hold it.

>Soldier, you must hold that wall so that the civilians must escape, it is the duty of every warrior to face death that the innocent may survive! Have our militia evacuate the city while you stop that beast!

On his magical war table, Nuada watches his men die, though his war charms allow the militia commanders to evacuate the vast whole of the city. As the Terrible Truth approaches, a massive beast, a spire of destruction with a thousand faces and a thousand claws marches on one of the outlying kingdoms of Nuada’s empire. The destruction is massive, the soldiers are decimated, but they are holding the center of town.
>>
>>51827653
And then… like, honestly, the Behemoth gets fucking disco-dunked, which isn’t that surprising with 11 Essence 4 Solars are on the table. At one point it tries to stomp on Anju, she grabs its foot, and just table-flips something the size of a small city across the landscape like the Incredible Hulk got his hands on an exceptionally giant Loki. Immediately afterward, Hadariel strikes a finishing blow. Everyone cheers, and the party decides to crawl into the Behemoth’s guts to see what’s inside, and Angua finds a glowing heart full of pure narrative force… And eats it. What possessed her to do so I am not sure, but she decided to touch the brutal and ancient tale of this Behemoth directly and as a result, got some bitching tattoos and a magical power to… Okay it’s been so long I legitimately forgot -what- the power was. But the tattoos were pretty awesome and told tales of all of her previous exaltations, including her own. Something about rolling dice to inspire people using her story.

And so, the Behemoth was annihilated in a single night. The two parties gain a respect for each other, and then they sort of went their separate ways…

OR THEY WOULD HAVE IF TERRIBLE THINGS WEREN’T HAPPENING IN THE NORTH.

That's it for tonight! Couldn't bully my co-ST to write anymore, will get back on his case about it tomorrow, if anyone actually gives a shit that is, Day 2 had a lot more going on.
>>
>>51827952

I'll read it tomorrow. Need to go sleep. Fucking job and all.

Easy: no reason not to take App and Dex.
Your main skills should be 4-5, no reason not to slap a speciality on it as well. Lore 1 is needed to read, other then that, keep a perfect defense at hand, it makes life so much easier. Even if you are a non-combat exalt you'll likely end up finding your way into combat more often then you are comfortable with.
Also, scroll of the monk. if you are combat oriented, or even social, you'll want to pick something from there up.

Yes it's min maxing but with how broken the combat is, you shouldn't feel bad about it.
>>
>>51834926

Semi-related, could you play Liminals as something out of Nechronica?
>>
>>51834950
We don't know, but maybe? There's definitely been comments from devs to the effect of "you can take body parts from other things and put them on your own, so why stop at two arms and two legs?"

Nechronica and Liminals are both very similar in a lot of ways. You're a person born into a dead body. You only have vague, fuzzy memories about your past life, if that. Obviously there are setting differences, but at the core they both tap into the same sort of horror concepts.
>>
>>51788610
>There's something a bit funny about this, page 76-77 of CoCD:Malfeas says "Human slaves and visitors to the Demon City must be give special medicines or treatments lest they perish within seven days"
That always struck me as a 2e-ism. It didn't gel with the rest of how Malfeas was presented.
>>
>>51836612
Fair enough
>>
>>51837219
Agreed. You can tell a good story or two about a human who has ended up in Malfeas one way or another, but presenting something like that as normal seems just dumb.
>>
>>51837906
I think you got the opposite of what I meant.
>>
>>51837973
What, you thought that humans in Malfeas *should* be normal, and that they should be able to survive there jsut fine with no special hijinks? As I said, that's dumb.
>>
>>51838019
You're either being deliberately obtuse or genuinely retarded, but I'll humor you anyways. Yes, I'm of the belief that there should be a good number of humans in Malfeas (thousands? dozens of thousand? who knows, who cares), but their numbers are limited due to the demon realm being fucking dangerous rather than some arbitrary condition that kills them dead.
>>
>>51838145
The light of the green sun being dangerous to humans isn't exactly arbitrary, and it certainly isn't in any way incompatible with how Malfeas in general is presented in any edition.
>>
>>51838145

I have to agree with this guy. Humans survive in Wyld.
>>
ok Holden
>>
>>51838173
They do? I know there are humans in the areas of the Creation infected by the Wyld, but I didn't know there were humans in the Wyld proper.
>>
>>51838173
Yes, that's one of the many (many, many, MANY) things that can kill you in Malfeas. Better than some bullshit arbitrary countdown of death.
>>
>>51838229
Should've been a reply to >>51838187.
>>
>>51838230
It seems to be less count down and more along the lines of humans starve in x days if steps are not taken to prevent that
>>
>>51838270
It's explicitly about air in Hell being toxic to humans. Which also isn't arbitrary or inappropriate.
>>
>>51838247

My bad. Wyld regions in Creation. They survive in there. It isn't pretty. It isn't nice. It isn't safe. But they survive.

I see Underworld and Malfeas in similar fashion. They are shitty places of different variety with many things out there to kill you.
>>
>>51838296
I agree with you, that's why I made the comparison to people starving. Air is toxic so people die in 7 days if the proper steps are not taken. A land made out of a demon gods body is not just a shitty place it is literally desiring to kill mortals and most things.
>>
>>51838351
Oh, right. Yeah, that makes sense.
>>
>>51838351
>>51838401

It makes sense but you are forgetting some things. First of Primordials made Creation so they could leave Wyld. Wlyd is antithesis of Creation. And somehow humans survive in regions where Wyld entered Creation. Why should Malfeas, a entity that was native to Wyld, be any more dangerous that Wyld itself?
>>
I don't really like mortals in Malfeas, but what's really stupid are ghosts in Malfeas. According to CoCD: Malfeas, there are as many ghosts as there are living mortals in the Demon City. That shit really annoys me.
>>
>>51838505
The thing about the Wyld-infested parts of the Creation is that they're still parts of the Creation. Weird parts filled with creepy and dangerous alien shit, but the basic building blocks and fundamental rules of those places are still of the Creation. They are a lot closer to the natural habitat of humans than Hell is. No doubt Malfeas is still better for humans than deep Wyld, though.

First Exalted game, 3rd edition, figured I'd build a simple beatstick Dawn for my first time. What do I need to know for creating my character? I've done some research, so I know about the increased Attribute costs. Is it faggotry to throw all your bonus points into attributes and leave chargen with a 4/5/5 Dawn?

How many defenses is too many? My current idea was to grab Melee, Dodge, and Resistance, and laugh at anyone who tried to kill me. Speaking of Melee, is Glorious Solar Railgun still bullshit, or did 3rd fix that?

Is armor good in 3rd, or should I just rely on the no-armor-allowed charms for defense?

Any other advice on character creation would be appreciated.
>>
>>51841281

4/5/5 is grand, but be sure to max out a ability or two.

Parry and Dodge don't overlap, you choose one or the other in response to an attack. Melee Parry is strong and allows you to have an ability you can both attack and defend with, but Dodge can do more owing to having it's own tree, but is reduced by your armours mobility penalty, medium weapons also grant +1 to your Parry, and don't forget to take a specialty. Don't know of GSRailgun.

You're a Dawn, Awareness is important because it grants initiative. Pick you something for a bit of ranged capability, whether it's Archery or Thrown for regular attacks, dedicated Melee charms, or enough points in Athletics to close gaps.

>Celestial Circle Workings: Workings of the Celestial Circle are miracles of outright supernatural power, either rewriting the laws of the natural world on a relatively large scale or instilling supernatural power into the mundane world. They can have scope sufficient to place powerful blessings or curses upon an entire village or a particular neighborhood or feature of a city, and their power is either an overt manifestation of supernatural magic, or a dramatic and drastic change to the properties of the natural world. As a general rule, this is the circle for sorcerous workings that the Storyteller feels established Lunar and Sidereal sorcerers, as well as accomplished Solar sorcerers, should be capable of achieving without excessive effort, or that an exceptionally potent Dragon-Blood or mortal might be capable of attaining with great dedication, skill, and risk. Examples include:

>Ambition 1 (Goal Number 25): Create a sorcerous bond between two characters that allows them to mentally communicate at any distance, or bestow a similarly useful but limited supernatural blessing. Create persistent illusions that haunt a structure or town-sized region. Invite an unbound Second Circle demon into Creation in a ritual that culminates on the night of the new moon. Transform a chamber so that its interior emulates the environment of any natural terrain within Creation. Ward a chamber or structure against all intruders with magical traps or barriers.
>>
>>51848152
>>51848207
>Ambition 2 (Goal Number 30): Alter the weather of a town-sized region over a long duration, extending the harvest season by a month every year or making every winter exceptionally harsh. Enchant fortifications to strengthen them against mundane assault or give them a measure of resilience to supernatural powers. Grant a supernatural power to one’s self or to a willing subject, such as a burning gaze, a hypnotic tongue, or cursed blood that turns into deadly scorpions when shed. Make alterations to the nature of a willing supernatural being, such as imbuing a fire elemental with the aspect of earth to turn it into a being of molten magma, or reshaping a demon to express a different facet of its oversoul and altering its Charms to match. Spread mutations throughout the mundane flora and fauna of an entire ecosystem.
>>
>>51848152
Eh, effect is pretty Terrestrial, and the scope is Solar, so Celestial would be fine I think. 2 or 3, maybe.

Indeed they are, but then again ALL descending destinies are about perversion of the good they represent and sidereal charms are part of the loom, woven into it by the maidens.
And for all maidens there is ONE thing they have in common: they take their duties serious beyond comparison but disdain the descending halves of their purview.
The maiden of battles is so serious about her work ost gods and sidereals get the impression she is nearly unapproachable, but her duty weighs heavily upon her heart.
The maiden of endings doesn't want to be noticed by other because of what she represents and others needn't to think about her, because she knows the knowledge of her and what she embodies can throw people into deepest despair. damnit, it's the reason she comperatively distances herself quiet a bit from the other incarnae, she likes them so much that the knowledge that even these bonds must end, keeps her from fully induldging in them.
The maidens are many things and because fate IS uncaring people often think they are as well. But the maidens are gentle and caring, they have to, because they weredesigned to be caretakers of fate, but they are also dedicated to the proper flow of it beyond even their compassion.

Yo, I need art for some NPCs in my upcoming game, was hoping /exg/ could help me out. I need:

1.) Male wood aspect. Not the fight-y type at all, kind of a pacifist who practices medicine and plays music.
2.) Female earth aspect. Wears heavy armor and uses a grand goremaul, very quiet and reserved but fiercely loyal and strong as an ox.
3.) Male water aspect. Sneaky type that fights with tiger claws, bit of a loner and quick to tell people when he thinks they're being stupid.

Should be able to handle the rest of that circle's art, but help with these three would be much appreciated. For reference, they're all young DBs. Essence 1, fresh off the Blessed Isle.
>>
>>51852990

I find those hard. I find it usually easier to find inspirational art because they are less specific. And then players can visualize combination of those elements when I describe something.
