Your real life proffession is now a fantasy class, alongside Warrior, Ranger, Thief, Bard, Cleric and Mage.

How do you balance it to still being playable?
>>
I don't. It'd be far too much of a lolrandom asspull to make that happen.
>>
>>51758332
Arcane magic is actually (shoddily) written in PHP.

QA. I'm the first to spot when things go wrong, but my powers are limited to explaining what went wrong and recommending someone to fix it.

Call the class the Oracle, remove Divination-type spells from the other classes' spell lists, give them bonuses to Perception and similar defenses (as with the spells, this means weakening the Ranger and Thief versions of these), and give them telepathy. 90% of QA is communication.

Also, is this actually a conversation starter, or are you just curious about the sorts of people who visit /tg/?

You can pick up the trade in most any supermarket chain. Most places will have you working with processed segments of pork and beef instead of the entire carcass.

When I worked at a supermarket you had to start off as a deli clerk and pray that a meat cutter apprenticeship would open up.
>>
>>51758889
I went to collage for it, but that doesn't seem to matter much, as most people I know don't.

Just start dropping off resumes, you will probably start out as a wrapper, and move up from there. Mention your prior experience.

Also it depends what you are looking for, grocery store, slaughter, custom, packing, sausage, etc.

It's a good career that can pay very well, is always hating and will always be int demand. An the skill are usable for life.

Noble. I get paid to own stuff. Spend most of my time planning parties or social outings for my friends, who have a variety of useful professions. This in turn means I have a network of highly competent people who can fix problems as they arise with my enterprise.

I also am a semi-pro GM. Like, I get paid but obviously its not my primary income.

The Art Student is a pretty piss-poor class when it comes to direct combat. D6 hit die, shit all in weapon proficiencies, and few other offensive capabilities. However, Art Students do get proficiency with one musical instrument, proficiency one set of artisan's tools, and two bonus languages. Best of all, the Art Student can cast arcane spells from their own spell list made up mostly of illusion spells, using a musical instrument or artisan's tools that they're proficient with as an arcane focus. Charisma determines the spell DCs while Inteligence dictates spells known and slots per long rest.

Essentially, a thematic fusion of the wizard and the bard.

No, I'm 28.

Ever read Tim Ferris? "4-hour workweek"? It's that sort of lifestyle, except I've reduced 4 hours a week to about 4 hours a month. So basically I'm retired.

People in older generations would instead devote their time to getting more money. But, like, I don't need more money. So I'm not exactly private jet rich like I guess I could be in 40 years if I never see my family. Instead I spend my time doing fun stuff like hosting, vidya, traveling, and GMing (which is why I /tg/).

Depends on the position. Apprenticing hasn't been a thing for the past few decades, it's impossible to find.

You will often see the "ten years experience" road block, but that usually for cutters.

Just look online. If they ask for your experience say you have non-proffesional experience in the career, but are willing to learn and work hard.

It's all in the wording. Stress you may not have much experience, however you done it before (so you won't quit the first day because it's "dirty" or "hard") and that you are willing to learn and a "blank slate" (meaning you have no bad habits and they can train you how they like).

Ehhh... sorta but not really.

Real wealth is in the network. A CEO's job is basically drinking with people. No really. They fly here or there for a meeting and have drinks and then fly here or there and do it again. You're trying to figure out if the people you're consulting/contracting are incompetent or scammers. If they aren't, and they can get the job done *on time* then great! You found a reliable source for widget X.

Alternately, you're basically doing HR but for extremely high powered positions. Poaching talent from other companies, wooing dudes and dudettes with fancy party stuffs and negotiating deals.

My point is, you ever hear those stories about dudes who go bankrupt like 7 times in their life and still wind up billionaires? Mark Twain was like that, to name one example. Once you have the network of people you can get rich over and over again, even if something happens to the market and you lose it all (or bet it all on some failed entrepreneurship). Yeah, capital is necessary, but not nearly as important as the network. If you've been bankrupt and rich again three times, banks will give you a loan because you've proven you can get rich again. Its the getting shit done by getting the best people to work for you (by contract or employment) that is essential.

Not to get political, but the other notable example of this is Donald Trump.

I fully organise their day to day lives, am well trained on how to safely defend myself without injuring others and when it is safe to do that. There's also tons of stuff like constantly assessing the situation we're in for risks and threats and working out how to prevent incidents or outbreaks of violence.

Nurse does kinda cover a lot of aspects of it, but I feel like it misses a lot of the other stuff where I'm literally helping them get through all the finnicky bits of life as well as a guide of common sense and safety.

It's mainly domestic. Three of them live in supported living (that is to say, they collectively rent a place together, with the financial side of it being done on their behalf), none of the three have the mental capacity to make their own decisions about... pretty much anything. They can't dress themselves, they can't wash themselves, they can't understand how to communicate, but are all very happy and seem to have very full lives despite the handicaps, one of them even had a job picking up litter at one point, until we realised that they'd pull off the safety gloves and throw them because it's funny, at which point we had to stop it due to the potential risk of needles etc amongst litter.

The other one lives in their own home, have their own car, can make their own choices, but suffers from severe learning disabilities and extreme anxiety. Can't drive the car themselves so we drive it for them, but they choose where we go, and what we do etc. The main focus of supporting them is to do with subtly steering them to choices that are beneficial to their physical and psychological wellbeing, and away from anything that might be a trigger for an incident (in which they become violent due to an overload of stress and anxiety).

(It is now midday, and I am tipsy)

Well, as I mentioned, reading Tim Ferris is a good start.

My track was ace high school go to Ivy League school, take blowoff classes and basically major in Fraternity. The Ivy League isn't better because of better academics- its precisely because the network of people in positions of power is an intensely valuable resource to those who know what to do with it.

Majoring in Fraternity is not something that teaches well. Master the art of conversation. Take an interest in different people and talk to them extensively about their field. Most of what "practical" knowledge I know is stuff I taught myself through talking to people who actually know what they're doing.

Some of it is sales. Presenting yourself. Being impressive. Knowing something about everything makes you seem smarter than you are. Experts usually only know a lot about their own field and not a lot about anything else. So they're impressed by detailed knowledge of things they don't know. This attention to detail gives the impression of competence, which is the most important thing. People need to believe you are competent. The reality is- you know competent people and the end result is the same. You can get shit done.

Of course, you have to have a certain amount of WIS, because you have to evaluate if people are actually competent or just arrogant frauds. So you can't be a complete dumbass. You actually have to teach yourself science and shit. Learn to verify research claims. Get a very broad appraisal so you know what is fringe and what is industry standard. If you want to bet on fringe thats fine but know why other people arent betting on it.

(hmm, this probably isn't too coherent. Sorry, I had to sample whiskey with a mason today ^_^).

Oh- here's a tip. You want the equivalent of an MBA, just watch CNBC's "The Profit" with Marcus Lemonis. Shark Tank gets all the attention but it doesn't really teach you much- its basically tricking people into watching an advertisement.

Marcus is sorta like a consultant that just buys the business in question. There's a lot of TV drama because 100% of the time the business is failing because somebody is a dumbass. If it were failing for any other reason (market downturn, product is "before its time") then he doesn't buy in because he can't help the business. But yeah, he's like a doctor who fixes people's subtle but important mistakes in business management.

And this is basically what an MBA teaches you. Case study by case study. Here are all the ways to fuck up. But there is no guide on how to succeed. Only a guide on how to not fail. The rest of MBA is just networking for people who didn't do that in undergrad. Often Econ majors who worked too hard on grades instead of planning their future.

Nurses do way more at times. Most of nursing training is being a medical bard. I exist to understand and assist docs, pharmacists, physical, occupational and speech therapists, laboratory, social work, case management, radiology, equipment providers, clergy and the other bazillion people in Healthcare. Most of these people only understand the minimum of what the other group does. And to top it all off. The average patient/family only reads and understands medicine at a 4th grade level. And that's before you consider they might be ESL (if that).
>>
>>51759818
I definitely see your point and don't disagree that you are accurately describing much of our current upper class, one of the world's richest men, Warren Buffet, would disagree with you.

Most of the types you are describing - Donald Trump being a good example - are starting off rich and while they're beating inflation and doing well despite failures they are not growing their wealth by nearly as much as those who are actually managing their capital well.

So I like Warren Buffet. But you understand that man is a wizard right? Not like a 4chan wizard. As in he actually does shit nobody else can do, does it consistently, and nobody can explain it.

The dominant investment theory, "A Random Walk Down Wallstreet" hinges on the premise that what Warren Buffet supposedly does is actually impossible, and he's just the necessary end product of chance. A blink monkey typing shakespeare. That *somebody*, by pure chance, will pick the right thing every time and beat the market.

I think that's horseshit. Buffet isn't chance. Because if he was, then each year he would be just as likely to fail as the rest of us. But he's not. He always wins. Its not impossible that this is chance, but if you called that chance in any real science you'd be laughed out of the laboratory. The man is legit, in my opinion.

What he practices is called "value investment", and it basically means understanding the company an how it relates to the market, as well as understanding that it's ran competently. Every investment he makes is basically investing in a business that he understands, rather than looking at a CPA spreadsheet and speculating on the ups and downs of modern finance. The thing is, very few people have the clout to get the kind of access to a business to see how it really works. Most companies won't let you see the inside at all, and if you're a VIP investor they'll put on a "painted face" for you, you know? Like a potemkin village but for a stock sales pitch. Buffet has the exceedingly high WIS and INT to 1) See through lies and 2) Evaluate the competence of executives and specialists in hundreds of different fields.

That is extremely similar to what I am already doing. I know experts in many fields (CHA). I can't possibly be an expert in every field, but I have to know enough to know my experts are legit (INT). Then I roll detect fraud (WIS).

Note I'm not actually in finance though. I own stock, but its not my main income.

Buffet's not a wizard though - he doesn't actually do anything revolutionary. Value investing is taught in every business school in the country, he just sticks to it religiously. He also owns an Insurance business which gives him large amounts of capital to invest.

You can perform at 90% of Buffet's performance level. With a middle-class start, that will get you a nice, comfortable retirement.

Capital matters.

>>51762911
Addendum: I got several friends in Wall Street, but the most successful I know checked out to Boston for better work life balance. He was actually a philosophy major in college. He told me something about finance that stuck with me and made a lot of sense.

"The only way to profit in finance is to exploit other people's irrationality and stupidity. Wealth is created when you make the market more efficient- you have to add value to society to earn your pay. My job is to find other people making mistakes, and correct those mistakes by betting against them. Thus the market is made optimally efficient."

Finance and banking is a curious beast, but its a very different thing from what I do. They call it finance for a reason- they move capital around. But they aren't the business that uses the capital. They don't sit around and think of ways to sell goods and services. They just buy and sell stocks and bonds and options.

Not to be confused with business consulting firms, which sells a service directly to a business, but is not invested in the actual operation of that business themselves (unless they're being paid in equity).
>>
>>51763125
>Value investing is taught in every business school
Sure, but I got the impression it was taught in the same way Hayek is taught as a dissenting opinion against Keynesian Economics.

>this might amuse you
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d0nERTFo-Sk

Then again, maybe my impression is colored by the fact that Burton and Nancy Malkiel had a big influence on the Economics faculty at Princeton.

But this isn't really an argument, since I reject the EMF anyway.

And its also true that if you have the network, you get rich any time you want regardless of capital. Or rather, you'll get the capital you need easily enough. But if you don't have the network, then a good nest egg and a good finance advisor will get you a retirement in like 40 years. But you be "rich" per se, unless you ARE Warren Buffet and have that same level of wizardy magnificence.

Dreamweaver.
I have the ability to insert fictional worlds into people's minds.

My combat abilities mainly consist of illusions, and temporary "misconceptions", hypnotizing the target to believe that something works totally differently/that this isn't even the right setting for them to exist in, distracting them. Cast it on a troll and suddenly they're wondering why they're in a fucking cave when they're super late for that job interview at Starbucks.

On the side, I sell people fake lives as basically a form of drug. Think "Roy" from Rick and Morty - they sit in a chair for half an hour and I lead them through an entire fulfilling life with a wide and kids where they die peacefully in their sleep at the age of 94. Then they wake up and feel incredibly disoriented and kinda sad that it's all gone, but I'm sure they'll get pretty addicted to the experience and come back soon.

Bonuses to working under stress and multi-tasking, strength and stamina from relays to the coolrooms and back with lots of food, massive proficiencies in underwater porcelain maintenance. I'm imagining some sort of henchman/packmule.

Student? Work the learning aspect. Gets temporary bonuses based on the high stat of what he's fighting/any party member that's higher level than him. Better in a jrpg than tabletop.

Librarian could be cooler. Your mage doesn't know Murmuration? I mean, I can find you a casting medium for it temporarily, but you'll need to return it at the end of the round. Don't ask what happens if it's late. Can always aid knowledge checks. So many answers it may as well be weak divination.

Me too

I think geologists would be a combo of druid magic and lots of adventuring skill bullshit like cartography and climbing

Also weapon specialization: hammers, warhammers, and pickaxes

Fairly easily, actually. I'm an EMT, so I guess I'd be some kind of medic or apothecary type character, healing with salves and potions and whatnot.

I'd probably be an apprentice to a wizard living in a large tower. And he'd give me shit jobs like sending messages to the plebs in the local village who refuse to shut up for a single second while I try to tell them something. (just like those awfull kids always do :'( )

Okay, so the class this job would become would be highly specialised into aid another and other such actions. Give out bonuses to actions. Kind of a generalist, dedicated buffer, with a few stances options to minimise damage to myself, and synergise extremely well when other people play the same class.

I'm a healer without magic and get to stabilize people for basically free. Can craft healing potions, and can patch people up on a Short Rest to double whatever their hit die rolls were, or to just heal them for half total HP, whichever is smaller. Other than that, no ideas.
>>
National Guard soldier. CBRN specialist. Hazmat Technician.

I guess I'd be a fighter whose focus is on dealing with poisonous and venomous threats at range? I'd be specialised in cleansing, but not curing poisons, diseases and venoms and I could use my knowledge of hazardous materials to create deadly weapons. Chlorine grenades. Ricin-coated arrows.

I kinda want to see if it's possible to play a character like that in Pathfinder now.

>>
>nurse
non-magic healing but with a focus of buffing heals rather than giving heals themselves . Bonuses to aid-other as well as non-lethal restraints in combat. Nursing is much more generalist than other healthcare, social work, etc. professions. Pretty much you know a little bit about pharmacy, medicine, cleaning, social work, etc. A nurse doesn't know as much as anyone specialized in these roles but has to know a bit about all of them.

Extreme proficiency with a hammer. Its like 60% of my job. Making deals and being able to sell garbage, so i think some good bluff skills, some knowledges here and there, knowing how to weld, do electrical, and some minor plumbing.
