So has anyone had the chance to play this yet?
I picked up the core book on a whim and I like what I see. I'm going to start a campaign soon and I'm curious if anyone has had any experience with the new English edition.
Also, The Dark Eye general.

I played it with my RL group. Good times

The skill system seemed intimidating at first, but the methods suggested in the core book to speed up play really help.
I suggest either the color-coded dice method or the left to right method myself.

I saw this in the book story, this and that Scandinavian game look interesting. I like the image of fantasy that they convey in their art.
Are the rules any good in this one?

As any german thing... there are a LOT of rules. If you want to play it you best get ready for some crunch. For example: you have to roll 3 d20 for a skill check...

Es heißt Das Schwarze Auge, Sie dreckiger Untermensch.
Actually, it's pretty amazing. Don't know about any new english editions, but all I played so far were quite interesting in the way they were removed from the typical high-flying games (looking at you, pathfinder). They are more down-to-earth with less powerful, more realistic characters adventuring in a world that can be wacky and frightening at the same time without seaming ridiculous.
Es ist ein sehr deutsches Rollenspiel. Mögen die Zwölfgötter Ulrich Kiesow segnen.

Your illustration illustrates nothing.

The rules for skill rolls (not to hit rolls thank goodness) are a little intimidating at first glance.
Basically each skill is tied to 3 of your characters attributes. Sometimes it's 3 different attributes, others may use the same attribute twice. All your character attributes are scaled 1-20. When you make a skill roll, you roll 3 20 sided dice. Each die is compared to one of the 3 attributes tried to your skill. You have to roll under all 3 attributes in order to succeed. If one or more of your dice rolls is over the attribute, you use your skill points to buy down the dice rolls. If you still have a positive number of skill points at the end, you succeeded. If you end up with less than 0, you failed. How many skill points you have left at the end of the roll determines how well you succeeded.

And this, in and of itself, is quite simple and elegant.
What the system builds around that core resolution mechanic is where the whole thing turns into an overcomplicated mess.

I'm playing DSA for about 8 years now. Actually started with some funny DSA 1 and DSA 2 groups and then moved to 4.1 and now 5.
I'm currently playing "Unheil über Arivor" with my Roll20 group.
Also here's a mandatory DSA dump for all german-speakers: https://mega.nz/#F!KcYnFRwB!svAhjnY3pBgihPFs2CUoUg

That sounds incredibly cumbersome and miserable. But I've never seen anything like it before, I'm intrigued.
