There's almost always some wishlisting/RAW interpretation that goes on with every release that I'm used to. Example would be the Sekhmet termis and their powers and people arguing they have access to all but they can choose on pyromancy/telekinesis. Or the Wolves being annoyed that cant attach characters to their slayer squads and get their bonuses.

But oversights in wargear, force maul and frost swords say, directly influence modeling and that triggers me immensely.

Theres also potential rule oversights that I'd like an answer on, such as whether Magnus should be able to shoot his witchfires out of the new TSons robots. Because he doenst have the LA TSon's special rule he can currently use them, which could be intended or its could have just been missed.

That's easily solved by reading. "They may choose..." So, they may, but don't have to choose. What do you do then? Follow the basic rules for psykers and generate form whats available. Nothing crazy there.

The FnP vs their pinning rule is the stupid one. FnP is a special rule like smash. It's not part of the save process. So they both occur at the same time. That one is GWs fault for not just making FnP a save instead of this weird retroactive rules timing nightmare that it is now. I have no idea why they made it so unnecessarily complicated. I want FnP to be fixed in 8E.

Which part? The choosing? 100% beyond the shadow of a doubt. They used "generate" for every other psyker in the book. So they know the difference and deliberately said "choose".

Or do you mean rolling elsewhere? It does say "May", and they've been shown to use may and must in different places so they know the difference there. Them not including the alternative is what's weird about it. Was it supposed to be "May choose rather than rolling."? They would have had a restriction to only TK and PM too if that were the case. But if it was "May choose from PM or TK or generate from other available..." you would think it would have said that as well. I personally think they wanted to keep it brief considering where the text is. Plus Sekhmet can be drawn from every other Cult Arcana, if they studied the other schools why wouldnt they be able to draw powers from there? I guess they just really like TK and PM for some reason though,

I'll echo my previous statement about keeping it brief because of where the rule is located. It's a small italicized note from an asterisk. Making it too wordy there would be messy. They could have avoided it entirely if they gave them a special rule like "Fire and Stone" in their rules and then spelled out how exactly to do their powers. Would have been clean and easy. But It's FW; They're bad at writing rules on a general level.

We can't argue RAI based off of gut feelings. We can, like I have done, draw parallels of other similar instances(Like my example of how the other psykers say "generate" so we know FW knows the ramifications of "may choose powers" vs "must generate") to deduce the probable RAI. Even in this case where RAW has one path to objectively follow, it's FW. They're bad at rules. I love them, but rules are their weakest aspect.

Bikes, those lascannons are solid, and it has melee ability as well. Pallas with adrathic guns may be good if they enemy likes their monstrous creatures/characters, but against all enemies, the jetbike is a better option.

I'm looking at it right now. Cult Arcana isn't mentioned until page 3. There is no mention of Cult Arcana in the typical "following provisions" list where Legion-unique characteristics would normally be listed. Theres a rule for Veterans and Terminators being able to take Brotherhood of Psykers, but again nowhere does it state Brotherhood of Psykers = Cult Arcana.

Death guard and salamanders do quite well out of assault marines and land speeders by dint of Move Through Cover.

Not hugely, although Hoplites are now the goto "Suicide Drop in Arvus Lighter! unit because they're way cheaper and pack more firepower than Secutors, and have Cover -1.

Peltasts with Radium Carbines is probably best for them, get them over Thralls if you have some spare points because they're very shooty. That's about it, although Thralls will probably remain the goto unless there's a Titan around to buff the Secutarii and make them compulsory, because fearless is good. New tank is pretty useless because it's AP4 and half again the cost of a Krios Venator, despite packing less firepower that's helpful in Warhammer 3+k. Shame, it looks awesome.

I don't think they can. While the point of origin is the Castellax, the caster is still the psyker, which is in combat - and thus cannot cast witchfires.

Now, the opposite I believe it's ok. Send Castellax away, hold something dangerous in melee and cast witchfires from the Castellax (only beams and novas can hit the unit locked in combat, though)

Possibly want Thallax squads of 3 and Peltast squads of 20, Thallax have more value as fast objective holders and the extra bodies don't help much with their firepower. Peltasts do better at max unit size because you want to stave off losing shield bonuses as long as possible. For the last troop slot, I'd suggest a squad of 10-12 Hoplites in an Arvus Lighter (with either twinlinked Autocannon or Multilaser), for using as drop pod suicide killing on Knights and Baneblades and such, 8.33 HP on anything not a Titan. Also can be deepstrikes/dropped onto ruins and such and not mishap, because Walkers in Ruin. Otherwise looks good.

For the Axiarch, probably FnP 5+ if you have a Titan, because 5+ rerollable FnP and 4+ armour rerolling ones while taking shooting at -1S is tougher than Marines. If no Titan, it's about equivalent, so pick either PE:Infantry or FnP 5+, it's about even. It's a per-game pick, so you can decide based on opponent's list.

If you want the Axiarch to go with a Hoplite unit, give him an Arc Pistol, because it's 10pts cheaper than the Arc Lance + Shield, and has his shooting and melee at +1S compared to it. Only thing you lose is Defensive Grenades, which is conferred to the unit by the Hoplites anyway.

Thing is, there's much better things to dump 135 points into than attempting to make your tough, fast and useful mandatory troops killy as well, they have 9 wounds default and will speedbump pretty well anyway, use them for jumping on objectives and harassing backline squads and artillery, they do fine against crew and such with S5 and T5 base. Don't try to make them a ranged threat, they really aren't.

Buy most of a Krios or a Medusa, or an entire Triaros with way more firepower and is scoring in Matrix of Ruin instead. Per squad, too, so you're wasting 270 points on adding slight extra firepower to a squad that doesn't need it. Buy most of a Knight Gallant, a kitted out Archmagos or an entire squadron of Vindicators instead.

I could use a bit of advice. I've finally got round to hacking up the chaplain from BaC into something more useful, so I'm making an AL saboteur out of him. The left hand is magnetised, so I can swap out power weapons if I want to (as per the image on the right), but as a default option I was building some space-binoculars for him, does that sound like it makes sense? They need a lens or two on the front, and some eyepieces on the back to finish them off. Backpack will be magnetised so I can swap in a jump pack (once I get my mitts on a MkIV one), and the combi-melta and meltabomb are permanent fixtures. Any comments, anything I can do to make him more saboteur-y?

Not the anon you were replying to, but this is my worry with any of the weird rules stuff. With how many mistakes they've made this book I wouldn't be surprised if they messed this one up. If it was the only weird wording I'd just accept the can choose powers from the two or roll on the others.

It has two things going for it. First is reliability - with two dice harnessing on 3+ you have 1/9 chance to fail to manifest, and then 1/6 chance to fail to strip a hull point.

Second if the cost. Fact that you can get away with only two dice means that chance of perils is minimal, and since Sekhmets are ML2, they essentially generate required dice for themselves, especially if they are not using Levitation that turn.

In the end, it's just extremely cost efficient to cover up your weaknesses, which is to say units that can't be spammed to death with plasma.

Building an Dangles Ironwing Protocol list for my first game in 30k and I'm stuck on a decision. Should I put my Delegatus in a squad of 9 veterans with volkite serpentas or a support squad with volkite chargers to take advantage of Exterminator rule which is +1 wounds to certain weapons under strength 5 within 12 inches, both volkite options meet that requirement.

The game is going to be 1500 points and I can't justify bringing in a command squad kitted out and I never took a liking to termies.

Which ever squad he'd be in will more than likely get stuck in melee more so and my tactical squads so I'd like them to have a little bite. Veterans can take weaponmasters for the +1 ws which combined with serpentas should be able to deal with a lot of infantry types. I could add power axes to melt termies but that's a big point sink. On the other hand the support squad could grab ccw's and the sarge could take a combi-grenade launcher with a stasis round to drop any ws 5 units to 4 so my delegatus and friends hit on 3's in melee.

Over all the points are about equal if I take a single power weapon in the veteran squad and I wouldn't have to rely on a stasis grenade hitting to deal with melee dedicated troops but the volkite chargers seem so much more viable over all.

Any input on the matter would be very helpful.

That's not what that may is for.

the rules elsewhere (like the dreadnaught where such a may would be redundant if the rules weren't trying to restrict you from generating elsewhere) make it very much clear where you can get the powers from.

You can get powers from Pyromancy or Telekinesis, you can choose which powers you get, but you cannot generate elsewhere.

At that low of points I would stick with the heavy weapon support's sergeant dropping the missile launcher for an augury if you're expecting to come against any air units. To bad missile launchers suck, but at least they're versatile.

If it were my list I'd drop the heavy support squad or another vindicator, just my preference.

I also don't think you're delegatus/command squad deserve a land raider, seems like a lot of points on something that's going to be murdered against anything ccw orientated. You could drop the land raider and stick them in a damocles command rhino for another bombardment.

Depends which edition you got. There was one for loyalist players in which russ just demolishes magnus. The other edition for traitor players has russ, valador, krole, and a load of other stuff fighting magnus at the same time, and they only win by cheating with a fake-surrender-backstab after magnus kicks their asses.

They aren't hard to deal with, everybody and their mother seems to have '2 kheres contemptors' in their list. AA is pretty balanced by virtue of AV12 being pretty easy to crack.

We're supposedly rather different than most metas. Only one guy runs a spartan, and he just started 30k because inferno (wolves). I use the fuck out of the kharybdis and assault marine blobs, our DG puts everything in rhinos, the aforementioned cults, a custodes/IF/Mechanicum player. Nobody really uses any superheavies, phosphex appears sometimes but in like 1 unit per list (although legion players, myself included, will occasionally take a Primarch, but only at 2500+). Absolutely 0 flyers, too, which is interesting. Not even an occasional appearance, even though all of us play 40k as well and use plenty there. Just 0. It's pretty nice.

No, all legions have access to Mortis Dreads and Deredeos that rape flyers into submission. Are flyers good? They're great, FW builds them deadly but expensive and frail which means they are easy to counter but will wreck your shit if they are able.

OK, nice. As far as I can tell the Lightnings come on from reserve, throw 4 BS5 Chainfists at something dangerous, then laugh as they are shredded by Kheres cannons because they've already won. Seems like something I need, since the rest of my Reductor list isn't much suited for AV14 Flare Shield save some Myrmidons, but I want them killing Terminators and such.

Also, they're controlled by servitors, so I don't have to feel bad about throwing them into suicide runs.

Looked at them, I can see they're nice, but I can buff the Kraken missiles with a Magos Reductor and give them IWND with an Archimandrite.

Seems pretty cast iron that it can choose its powers from the Telekenisis or Pyromancy disciplines. Choose rather than generate, but from those disciplines only. 30/40k is a permissive ruleset, and unit rules override faction rules. Without an additional part to that sentence saying 'or generate its powers from any other discipline', then it's limited to those two.

Let's have a page number from the 40k rulebook for that, because I think you just made it up. All the rulebook says (afaik) is pic related, but both the Prosperine Lore rule and the Sekmet's rule are Advanced rules in the Army List Entries, so there's no preference given as neither is a Basic rule.

Sniper only synergies with weapons that roll to hit, so flamers don't get any benefit from marksmen vets. Would probably go with Combi so you can have the bolter component for sniping and still keep the flamer component for flaming.

I dont know about you, but I don't give a fuck about the "precision shot" part of the Sniper rule. It's the 4+ to always wound and AP2 on 6 is what I'm picking marksman for.

You could just take a heavy flamer for 5 pts more than a flamer. I've had some good use of those in ZM games (especially against the fucking AdMech), gotta love shred+sniper.

Sniper still gives the flamers 4+ to wound and rending. Sniper flamers are the WAAC option.

In fact, the only thing Sniper does with rolls to hit is Precision Shots.

The drawback with heavy flamer is that a flamer and the flamer part of a combi-flamer shoot simultaneously.

I was thinking, a unit of ten in a rhino COULD outflank, clear an objective (or other important territory), take it, and guard it.

They should also be able to, if not outright kill, then atleast dent some custodes, right?

Yes, you can take flyers from anywhere that isn't already in the army list so no 9 Lightnings. (From the Mechanicum book, anyway.) It doesn't even refer to the other box saying no Heresy-era stuff, so when I get the Filiketos done I can pick the 40k or 30k rules for it. And give it Tank Hunter for 15 points, although that needs a 4060 pt game.

Problem is you may hand over some easy VPs when they die, because of the Price of Failure.

Vultures would be damn shiny, though, as would a Vendetta with tank-hunting Lascannon.

I think you might be better off with Plasma for that, since then all your wounds are ignoring their armour. And since custodes have a min squad of 3 for a lot of their units so flamers might not cut it due to lack of hits, and you're going to be in charge range too which is bad.

Its with the Wolf Kin of Russ and their deployment rule regarding transports. I was confused as to how they function since they can't form a unit but are deployed together?

So would Russ plus the dogs count as a unit for the purposes of deploying inside a tank; and split off on into entirely seperate units disembarking?

Or are they multiple units in one transport? And if that's the case, are you able to attach Russ to a terminator squad; with the Wolf Kin embarking as well due to their own rule?

The beauty of the Vulture is that thanks to its agility, it can get behind enemy vehicles for those tasty rear armour shots.

OK then, excellent. IWND doesn't matter so much when it's regenerating 2HP per turn. If anything nasty gets near I can repel boarders with 4 models with S8 power fists and 2 with S6, which is handy.

Shame "Master Fabricator" doesn't apply when it's my Archmagos' personal gunship of cool, but ah well, can't have all the fluff AND all the cool rules at the same time.
