TEN THOUSAND WOLF HQs Edition

Sweep Advance is a meme disadvantage Sub-edition

Anon's car was a disappointment, the same as FW's errata. Should have invested in cool Bionicles and Filiketos whaleships. But you can't un-fuck a girl. In this tragedy-ridden galaxy, we aren't quite sure about some rules, and definitely can't agree on pizza toppings.
The summary makes more sense if you were in last thread, I promise, but what happens at >>51708122 stays at BOREALUM.

I think you want at least one chainfist in case a dreadnought happens. And keep as many force weapons as possible, because they're force weapons.

Not sure if the Force Stave (there is no such thing as a Force Maul FW) is a good option. Whilst it does have concussive, it basically always allows armoursaves for the targets that matter ... and relying on them to fail that 2+ for the concussive seems not that great.

Take axes if you don't want to get stuck against other terminators and have a competent local meta where they always make sure you gotta charge through terrain with terminators.

Sicarian (200) Sponson HB, Pintle HB, Acid
Spartan (385) FS, AC, HB, Acid

Babbys first list, plenty of time to work kinks out since I'm saving up until early summer to buy dingles en masse.
Tacs sit on objs, extra CCWs to make them a bit more prickly. Javelins and Cortus hunt tanks. Sicarian picks off light vehicles and infantry. Vets can either dick on important objs or be infantry killers as needed. Delegatus and bros most likely do very little except not die and maybe try and contest objs. Whirlwinds either are AA, or cheap arty/tank tax if there is no air. Spartan is... Spartan.

Thoughts?

>>
>>51719689
your tanks cant take acid rounds, and your list has no teeth, and nothing useful to put in your spartan
>>
>>51719689
Ok one of the few lists I'd suggest a Deredeo over the whirlwinds for AA. Take the las cannons, maybe ML if you want. All dreads get Tank hunter so that makes those shots really scary, and it can shoot things other than planes, which unless your meta is riddled with them, aren't much of a worry.
>>
>>51719723
ah fack, I fucking forgot it was LA or noughts only
I should probably drop the Spartan unless I can find something to stuff inside it, that and dropping the Acid on the tanks will free up ~400 points.
I think I have a good core, I'm just... unsure how to use my (shitty excuse for) LA rules while also making a nice killy unit or two
>>
>>51719785
That would also mean throwing in another tank of some kind or dropping either the cortus talon or the javelins, which was the sole reason I avoided putting in a dorito

>Implying the daemons of the Primordial Truth share anything in common with those lesser creatures.
>>
>>51719812

I'm no expert, but your list seems to be full of holes. Outflank or deep strike would wreck havoc in your backlines and only your Sicaran would be able to stop it (which means it would likely be the first target). Your frontline seems to be full of vulnerabilities and is dependent on the enemy walking into your killbox, where the tacticals would hang back and pepper whatever is approaching. But it'll crumble to an actual specialized gunline with long range weaponry.

Weak to a strong gunline, weak to deep strike, weak to general randomness, no real backbone in the army besides the Spartan. For 2500 points, I'd expect more redundancies than tac spam and a Sicaran hanging in the back.
>>
>>51719908

So what units would be classed as "Megaheavies"? Now superheavies are somewhat more common, what's taken their old spot?
Ordinatii, the Manta, Eldar Revenants, Reaver and Warlord Titans obviously, maybe the Stormbird and Warhound?
Those who have Titans, do Warhounds hit the table often enough for that? They're a bit borderline between the "Knight/Baneblade" levels and the Megaheavies.

Yeah, there's probably three types. The "Supermiddleweights" with the Malcadors, Crassus variants and such, which sometimes aren't LoW slots, like the Minotaur (Squadrons of the things, even) and Infernus, the Superheavies proper with Knights, Baneblade variants and probably the Thunderhawk and Marauder aircraft, and the Megaheavies with the Titans, Ordinatii and smaller voidships like the Manta.

Couple of them are borderline, though, like the Warhound, the Mastodon and possibly the Stormbird. Borderline is about 800 points, I think, but they're such large and shooty models it's blurry.

Since I've decided saving money is for plebs, I want to do a White Scars Chogorian Brotherhood army. Need some help piecing together some things.

2000 points
HQ
Primus Medicae 140
-bike
-power glaive
-melta bombs

Delegatus 150
-jetbike
-refractor field
-melta bombs
-power glaive

Troops
2x Skyhunter Squadron 260 each
-6 jetbikes each
-2x volkite culverin each

2x Outrider Squad 200 each
-6 bikes each
-2 power swords each

Fast Attack
2x Landspeeder Squadron 110 each
-2 speeders
-graviton guns

Seeker Squad 305
-10 marines
-Rhino
-strike leader w/ artificer, melta bombs

Heavy Support
Sky Slayer Squadron 255
-5x multimelta

1980 total. 20 points to spend, not sure where to put it. I want to play primarily shooty, but the outriders are meant to assault with their power swords. Both consuls in one jetbike squad. I might want apothecaries for the outriders but that's 70 points per squad giving them bikes.
>>
>>51722888
Might wanna grab some Nuncio Voxes, the seekers would be a good spot. It'll give you a good backup in case terrain is too dangerous
>>
>>51722888
If the outriders are meant to assault, you might as well give each a sergeant with a glaive.

Incidentally, is 1d4chan down for anyone else at the moment?
>>
>>51722992
Nuncio voxes are for deep striking though, right? I don't plan on having much if any, and the ROW requires infantry (ie seekers) to start in reserve so there's no guarantee it would be worthwhile anyway
>>
>>51722875
So that explains how marines can keep their purity seals from being damaged in battle.

Could work...seekers are rather expensive as it is and I don't actually know how useful they are. I really only took them because they seem like the best infantry to take advantage of the outflank they get from the rite Drop them, maybe take a bike praetor instead of jetbike delegatus, bike command squad.
>>
>>51723377
The issue I'd have with outflanking seekers is it takes several turns to be able to fire their best ammo (scorpius) because they have to stand still to do so, and even disembarking from the rhino is moving.

You may be better off with a veteran squad loaded up with combiweapons, they can come on, disembark, and unload into a target. Cheaper than seekers with combiweapons too.

Think I'm gonna drop infantry entirely and go for the entire fast force. Having bikes as troops and getting hit and run is, I think, a good enough bonus that the infantry outflank stuff is just gravy.

2000 points on the nose. Not sure whether to go power axes or swords on my command squad. I also think this gives me a good balance between anti infantry shooting from the sky slayers, assault with the outriders and command squad, and anti armor with the sky slayers and the landspeeders. My other legion is World Eaters, and they're all assault with a weirdly high amount of anti tank (javelins and melta jetbikes) so a good shooty army is a nice change.

Plasma cannons on jetbikes are an acceptable risk due to the 2+

Don't put multi meltas on jetbikes, they want to be far back.

Find how to give your outriders sergeants with power glaives. Power glaives are your other legion trait and are exactly as important, use them at all opportunities unless you have a paragon blade.

Force Commander - 175

Platoon Command Cadre - 65

Gorgon Heavy Transport - 295

Militia Grenadier Squad (20) - 145
Melta Gun, Flamer, Laslocks

>>
>>51725873
You'd have the option to make it properly "medieval" or "space roman", and give them an option to be without pistols.
You'd also give them breacher shields, and the option to be without pistols or ranged weapons, which defeats the entire purpose of making an army and saying "these are techno-knights", if they just behave like a modern/Cadian-style regiment with an emphasis on CQC.

They'd also give the feudal world options somewhat like a rite of war, to display the diversity that occured in pre-modern armies.
>>
>>51725370

I suppose you would have to remove power armour, iron halos and all that jazz as options, but then again plate armour and power armour have the same rules in talisman which is the only time they've appeared in the same game, to my knowledge.

No, because this is a world that's feudal in its culture. The technology on that world is low-tech, and so they're given or prefer to use melee-weaponry when fighting against "up to date" troops.
Or technology survived on that world, but only partially, so for example the power armour and energy fields are just as advanced, but guns have barely advanced beyond lasrifle levels of effectiveness, are tough to produce, and are only as accurate and easy-to-use as historical early guns, so you end up with an equivalent "meta" to our early modern warfare, but with a technology level possibly far in advance of our own, or even more crude even.
>>
>>51726427
Just go with the simple and common explanation, nobles have technology and peasants wallow in the mud.
>>
>>51726507
Other explanations exist.

And besides, mass society armed with with high technology beats a society with limited technological access.

Feudal worlds don't make SHIT other than raw materials and food. Nearly everything anyone needs is made by forge worlds or industrial worlds. Cadia was famous for being able to outfit its own troops with equipment, few worlds can do this, let alone a Feudal world.

A generally low tech world would have no hope of even maintaining power armour, god forbid forcefield tech, because of the industrial and scientific base required. There is no chance they could actually make any.

Feudal worlds generally shit out Ecclisarchal nutters and cavalry by the thousand, but they're not the type to have even las weapon production.

A better representation would be a fuckton of levy with flintlock weapons or CCW led by a Noble in his passed down power armour (Make it look clunky as shit) with some Rough Riders allied in for shits and giggles, it's not like this is a serious list anyway.
>>
>>51722734
Couldn't we call the Malcador and everything on that chassis "heavy"? That would make the Leman Russ a medium tank, which sounds fine to me.

I agree with the rest of your classifications. Though Ordinatus Minorus can probably just fit into the superheavy category. They may have a bigger gun, but they probably only weigh about the same as a Baneblade (and in older fluff at least, the Shadowsword's Volcano Cannon wasn't supposed to be very different from the Volcano Cannon on an Ordinatus or titan arm).

It's a big galaxy, the scenario I described is entirely plausible and only ONE kind of "feudal world", which is not the same thing as "low-tech world".
Especially when this is describing worlds fresh out of Old Night, where literally anything could have existed. Tying down the setting to "this is how X was" is fucking retarded.
The type of world you're describing existed, but it's entirely different than another type of "feudal world", which as I described, would have come out of Old Night without being planet of the apes, and be its own self-sutaining thing, as it would have to have been during Old Night.

Yeah, that works OK. Ordinatii have that "This is my army, the rest is just to hold off the melee" feel you sometimes get with Titans, and they certainly have the firepower for it. Think they're another borderline case, honestly.

So:

Heavies:
- Malcador, Macharius and Crassus variants.

Superheavies:

- All the usual stuff, Knights, Baneblades, Thunderhawks and most of the old SH tanks.

Borderline:

- Warhound Titan, Ordinatii, Stormbird, Mastodon, Tau Supremacy Suit.

Megaheavies:

- All other Titans, inc. Xenos ones.
- Manta

What are some good unit choices for my Alpha Legion that emphasize them as a specialist weapon cadre with unlimited access to the arcane high tech weaponry the Legion was sometimes known for employing?

I've got 10 Lernaeans to bring 2 Conversion beamers to the field, and I plan to build a Conversion Beamer/Grav Fist dread. I've also got a squad of jump pack Destroyers for the obvious thematic reasons and because they're my favourite model in the HH range.

I've seen that plate from the Siege of Mezoa chapter in Retribution that talks about their preference for Sicaran Venators despite the pattern being known for field maintenance issues, and I know I'm going to need more reliable anti tank than the CBs (but I'm too passionate about CB Lernaeans to drop them, and beamers and chainfists is just too expensive pointswise) so that's a good idea.

Feudal worlds aren't necessarily low-tech, they just have a silly, old-fashioned social system. Keep in mind most knight worlds are feudal. The nobles can still maintain them (just), and the peasantry may still have access to some of the old STC stuff the original colonists brought with them.

But whatever technology has been forgotten has been replaced by low-tech stopgaps. They might have Leman Russ-like tractors, fuzzy 3D hololiths for entertainment, but depend on semaphore for long-distance communication. Or they might not have enough fuel for those tractors so they use oxen, but they can still make batteries so they have lascutters and power weapons.

So how cheesy is it to use the Levy blobs with Cult Horde and Tainted Flesh as allies so I can have some large scoring units to back my Genetors up? I figured I'd model about 40 as Skavenslaves with some other bits for joint use as Adsec, and mix in Ghouls and such for the rest. Obviously Admeched up.

Wanted some big blobs so I can fill the deployment against people like Mortarion and Custodes teleporting in and wrecking my shit, as well as tarpitting.
>>
>>51727424
if you're going dark mech, sounds pretty fluffy actually. I'd imagine ghouls with the right paintjob and a little conversion would look great as mutated experiments being herded into the fight. For adsecularis I'd still stick with the normal models, as they're heavily augmented.
>>
Why, exactly, is there a tank named for Leman Russ? The more I know about SW in general the less it really makes sense. Dorn or Guilliman seem more the type to have a tank named after them
>>
>>51727455
Dark Genetors using the Reductor rules, because I apparently hate having fluff and characters so I picked the most hipster army I could think of ;)

That was the plan for the Ghouls, yeah, they're just flash-cloned chumps that they create a few days prior to their battles and throw into fights to eat bullets, since they have rather less room for standing forces on a Reductor fleet than a Forge World. Force Commander was probably going to be an Enginseer with a Wrack whip, as an "Overseer". Not sure what to do for sargents yet, maybe make one standing taller and with an actual pistol, or greenstuff on some extra muscle.
Adsec as Clanrats was mostly a cheapskate measure, I'll admit, and that way I can grab a Spire of Dawn box for a bunch of conversion bits and two Rat-Ogres to make into Vorax. Also would rather paint 100 basic infantry than 140. Normally I'm not that fussed about FW prices, but more than a pound per point is a bit much.
Also, if the rest of the model was going to be armoured monsters, mad scientists and artillery firing chemical shells, backed up by biological airships and cybersquid drones, having a bunch of shiny humans about would look a tad odd.

>>
>>51727537
Malcador and Valdor have tanks named for them too, and they were more obscure than the Primarchs.

It might be a thing done before his wounding by the Emperor for God-knows-what-reasoning, or some act of politicking by Guilliman after the council-of-Terra thing.
Or even a subtle act of politics by the Mechanicum, telling Guilliman that they weren't in support of his rearrangements and if Russ and Dorn got together to overturn it, they'd support giving the Ultramarines the Prospero treatment.

Any bits recommendations for a terminator forge lord without using the iron father model?
>>
>>51726795
Conversion beamers are awesome, but it does feel like a waste to give Terminators a long-range stand-off weapon. Combined with the destroyers you'll have a slightly weaker army. But they're both cool units so I'm not trying to dissuade you.

Brings lots of volkite too. If you use Pride of the Legion (which requires a lot of infantry squads) you can run the Lerneans as troops and then bring support squads with more volkite... really minimize the bolters.
>>
>>51727625
If I recall correctly, I don't think they're in any of the rulebooks, but I don't see why anyone would deny you using them, at least for a friendly game (though the AV15 buildings might be a no-no).

Your best bet for inexpensive trenches is to make your own. Laser cut MDF isn't expensive and you can design an interlocking trench set with a free CAD program. I recommend eMachineShop.

A lot of "maker spaces" have laser cutters or there are plenty of services online. The bastard's going to be finding 1/8" or 3mm MDF.

>The biggest glaring issue with medieval militia is there's IIRC no option for shields

Use Cyber-enhanced's 6++ or SotDA's +1 to armour as the shield.

>two-handed weapons for your units

Grenadiers get Augmented Weapons (Str. 4), while not two-handed by rules, can surely be modeled that way.

>everyone has to have pistol side weapons.

Infantry, Grenadier and Levy squads all have the choice to have just two close combat weapons on them.
>>
>>51727756
That's a tricky one, unless we talk third party, in which case your options are in this case as good as your google-fu.

It's basically impossible if you exclude GW bitz from Indomitus armour too. Then you're left with just Mechanicum or non-terminator techmarines to get bitz from, and if you go that route, then you can make anything work so long as you get that "claw" look and have some GS skill to put the pieces look together.

My headcannon is that it's a post-Heresy name. At that time Russ was less kinslayer and more protector of mankind, so someone might've named it after him without asking.

A few novels, like Tallarn Executioner, never call the tank "Leman Russ". Of course, in that book they were only using variants, and they just called them Vanquishers, Executioners, etc. So someone else is thinking it too.

>>
>>51727625
http://www.amera.co.uk/product.php?range=z
>>
>>51726635
The Russ is configured a lot like a WWII medium tank. Good for infantry support, has a weapon that can take out other tanks, enough armor to be immune to small arms fire but still vulnerable to other tanks and infantry-carried anti-tank weapons, not terribly fast, used en masse, etc.

If there were a combat variant of the Centaur, that would be light. Light tanks went out of fashion once engines became powerful enough for tanks to have good armor, guns, AND speed (main battle tanks), but when they existed they generally had lousy armor. Sometimes not even enough to stop machine gun fire. But when good engines were available, they could have a decent gun and decent speed. They were often used in recon... I guess more like the Imperial Army/Guard uses the Salamander.

>>51729035
I vaguely remember that, but I've never been able to find it again. I can believe it. If I were sending colonists off into space, I'd base their primary self-defense vehicle on a tractor too, and make it slab-sided for ease of production and material efficiency. If cost is no object you get Custodes-style vehicles. When cost is priority #1, you get Leman Russes.

A lot of people will want to play zone mortalis at that low points level, so might be worth sneaking some stuff that's extra effective (blasts/templates) in ZM games into the list, especially as everything you've taken is legal for ZM already. That's the worst thing they could do with him.
If they wanted to add that plot element, make the Black Rage form like a reverse Sanguinor, while nu-Sanguinius is even purer and noblebright-er than he was in 30k.

>>51729826
>We can't let them ruin him.
They already made Guilliman a lanky twelve-foot tall Thousand-Sons looking motherfucker, they can do anything they want.

>>51729829
The pose works because it's majestic.
If you look at different posings of the 30k Lorgar model, you'll see that different posing (looking up, raised hands) makes him look a lot more dynamic and imposing, as do different paint schemes.

In the FW example he looks like a depressed weakling (for a Primarch): slovenly posture, mace held limply). The infamous "cry like a little bitch" post-Monarchia look.
But in various other modellers' interpretations, he looks either like an inspiring but sleazy speaker invoking the heavens, or full-on demonic shaman crazy man.

I think it's likely that Sanguinius "comes back" through the devotion of the Blood Angels and the Imperium re-making him real within the warp, a pre-lude to the theorised possible resurrection or transformation of the Emperor into a "god" through the fervence and prevalence of the belief that he already is one. The Sanguinor is that spirit just not yet able to do more than the Legion of the Damned, possibly something similar formed unintentionally along similar lines (one theory of their origins).
But with Sanguinius back, the Black Rage would probably be cured and "cast out" like a collective exorcism by neo-Sanguinius. This in turn would coagulate in the warp and become not a god, but a unique chaos demon that's a shadow of Sanguinius and the collective Blood Angel psyche for 10,000 years, just like neo-Sanguinius is the good implied to be Emperor-approved aspects of those psyches, having coalesced around the kernel of Sanguinius' soul which survived his being killed by Horus.
"Black Rage Sanguinius" would be like a new demon Primarch, and it could have its own subordinate Legion of the Damned style army of warp ghosts too.

This theory is fucking ridiculous. I can totally see GW doing it.

What do you think would/should/could happen?
I'm interested in hearing a take on the 40k universe that de-emphasises the wacky/supernatural-magicky aspect of it, even if I obviously like those.

But better storytelling. It's like how "Magnus & the TSons did nothing wrong" misses the point. The story of Magnus and the TSons is literally a classical tragedy, and trying to move away from their hubris causing their downfall weakens the story. It's the same with the blood angels, their continual struggle with the beast inside is an interesting story, having sanguinius reappear and all the blood angels suddenly be all better would ruin that.

It's not a *huge* deal, just missing one section of turbine, and it's consistently wrong across both of my Dreadclaws, but now I've seen it I can't unsee it and it's bugging me. Just need to snap the very top piece off and put the plastic turbine underneath it, then glue it back, but it's pretty well glued.

Change =/= ruin.

I also disagree that it's the same thing as retconning the TS into not being a bunch of arrogant fedoras (which they still are in-canon). This would be moving them forward, and as I said, it need not just wipe the Black Rage phenomenon out entirely. I'm not writing the new fluff so I'm not responsible for all the details, I'm just saying that throwing Sanguinius out the window entirely and turning the fun, offbeat magical setting into fucking Star Trek with made-up laws of physics is a stupid no-fun-allowed decision, pretensions otherwise notwithstanding. It also does nothing to explain the Sanguinor.

Yeah, well, fuck you too. The setting is not magically improved/the blood angels are not "moved forward", just because you can't handle your husbando being gone.

>Change =/= ruin
Not necessarily, but what you're proposing (removing THE major trait that defines the bangels in the 41st millenium) would ruin them.
>>
>>51730559
I think the tractor meme comes from the snow plough they attached to the Leman Russ tank.

>Not necessarily, but what you're proposing (removing THE major trait that defines the bangels in the 41st millenium) would ruin them

Depends on how it would be done though. although personally i feel that it would substract a lot from the BA's appeal to some.

Unrelated, i speculate that Sanguinus' rules and stats will be akin to Fulgrim.
>>
Can you use Magnus' RoW to just run him, a couple of characters and then whole bunch of Sekhmets?
>>
>>51730559
I swear I read it somewhere years ago. I actually went to look, but I don't have the stuff I used to have, so couldn't find a source.
>>
>>51730813
If those fit within the limits of the FoC for that RoW, yes. That's like asking "can I use Pride of the Legion to just field a few characters and a bunch of vets?" Yes, that's what the rite allows.
>>
Does anyone ever actually use Enginseer squads for Mechanicum? I kind of want a squad of two with some Servitors dishing out repairs to the artillery, but for 105 pts it's hard to justify not buying another Myrmidon, or even a whole Vindicator if I have a slot free.

In this case it does, in fact ruin, literally everything about the Sanguinius storyline.

LITERALLY
EVERY
SINGLE
ASPECT
OF
IT.

You're right, its not 1ksons level of retcon, its worse.

it'd be like removing the religious symbolism from Neon Genesis Evangelion.

I don't plan on running it, but I could see many lists based on it. Even AV14 is not a concern when they can spend two warp charge for a Haywire hit or just use chainfists.

They are effective against virtually anything, are undercosted and easy to spam. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up being Riptides of 30k.

I doubt this. He's probably going to be the first primarch to beat Scoria math hammerwise.

So do Russ and Magnus duel in Inferno? I was going over Russ's rules and theres nothing there about psyker resistance which was the only reason he survived in ATS?
