Everyone talks about how they use past events or books/tv shows/movies/games as inspiration for their game, but has anyone here considered using modern conflicts such as the Syrian Civil War as inspiration for a game. The conflict can easily be turned into a fantasy or scifi campaign or just left as is and in my opinion is one of the most fascinating wars in a long time, with many factions and interesting characters.

A campaign as a modern-day soldier of fortune is a vast well of untapped potential desu
The Donetsk war is incredibly interesting as well

Yes. The threads about using modern conflicts as inspiration usually conclude that it's a terrible idea.
>If people spot the similarities then your campaign suddenly becomes politically charged.
>Incredibly complex and dark subject material likely to alienate many players.
>Middle eastern civil conflicts translate poorly into narrative forms.

I have geopolitics autism and I still think its a bad idea.
Geopolitics autism doesn't stop me from having opinions about current affairs or from getting worn out by extremely grime/convoluted subject matter.
And frankly constantly keeping tabs on how shitty the world is just makes me value escapist activities more.
