Man, whenever I play, I avoid anything involving the matrix beyond AR

How are we supposed to familiarize ourselves with that clusterfuck of random rules and abstract concepts?

5e Matrix is way less terrible than 4e matrix as it doesn't require an entire second game for the GM to orchestrate.

Running the Matrix is simple: You set up a host and devices your hacker can get into. You run that concurrently with the rest of the group. Voilà.

Deep Matrix runs are more complex because they'd require the entire party to tag along for the ride and that's a part of the game I don't want to read.

>no options for internal suppressor modifications
How the hell am I supposed to build the perfect submachine gun when I need gas vents in the barrel slot for recoil compensations and there's nowhere else to put a suppressor?
>>

>>
>>51694141
I think they are important, since they are triggers for discussion while we wait for the chummer bug reports, questions about rules and build shitposting.
And they usually are about people talking about their characters in flavorful ways that help build them up in interesting ways.

Then again, this is my non-lethal gun that I most likely won't use to shoot anything other than wageslaves, so maybe 7 will do.

I never like the idea that my deckers genuinely NEED some of the best decks ever manufactured in order to be even reasonably competent.

At what range are you able to be 'good enough' you think? I'm usually good with device rating 2+ in anything in the core rulebook, depending on the budget.

you can get there are chargen pretty easily
>>
>>51694309
If you need the accuracy for more than 21 dice, what are you shooting at?

Especially with burst-fire penalties to defense, most foes shouldn't have seven dice to roll, much less enough to get 7 successes with any kind of regularity.

And for those dodgy assholes, that's what a rating 5 sensor array in the cyber-arm is for.

I'd say that if you don't have a good idea of how to run a decker, than you probably want the rating 2 decks.

If you do have a good idea then you can either make due with one of the rating 1s and the right programs, or splurge for a 3 and do amazing things with the rest of your budget.
>>
>>51694428
>If you need the accuracy for more than 21 dice
Nah, I only have 12 dice. I'm just greedy for successes and would just hate to roll more successes than my limit on a stupidly lucky roll.

Thanks mates. Next question:

Does a cyberware scanner only scan for the presence and location of 'ware or does it determine what kind of cyberwere it is? Can it find weapons and smuggling compartments in cyberlimbs?
>>
>>51694925
With the caveat that I've made this before (but it was really cheesy and probably wasn't something I'd let by) but how about a Techomancer built to actually deck with brainmeats?

I'd not allow it because you've gotta really do things strange and min-max to get the most out of it. And drugs. Those too.

>>51695187
It depends on how many hits the scanner gets vs the grade of the implant. More hits means more details... unless it's higher grade 'ware.

Then it needs more hits just to recognize the thing.
>>
>>51695460

I think I'd like to decline on that, because I've literally never made a Technomancer in my life, so I wouldn't really know how to make one poorly, much less well.

I could design a story/concept for a technomancer who hacks with his brainmeats, but those have been done a dozen and a half times before.

But, if you'd insist, i suppose I could sit back and finally read through the entire technomancer section...

>>
>>51695530
Well, the thing is that it's building a Technomancer like the book presents them, instead of how they're actually good.

The way I did it involved tanking Resonance for lots of 'ware, backed by Cyber-Singularity Seeker. And then a contact that could get me custom drugs for emergencies that needed Even More Stats.
>>
>>51695530
Don't bother. Just way for the techno book to come out and hopefully give them more options than "Digimon trainer".
>>
>>51695562

Seen it before and I definitely appreciate what it's saying.

For whenever I do eventually get around to making a techno.

But, the point of my challenges is making something 'bad' into something good.

>>51695568

Again, I'd like to politely decline unless you insist on it. I also can't promise any sense of speed.
>>
>>51695645
Decline away. I threw it out there knowing that it was likely to get not done by virtue of being a really stupid build.

Actually, since there's more stuff out now. I should probably see if I can do 'better' than the old build.
>>
>>51694925
>>51695530
>>51695645

Are you asking for a challenge?

If so, how about a typhoid mary type of HMMV victim? The goal is maximize the characters ability to spread the HMMV virus in anyway possible, while remaining inconspicuous. Something like an elf with charisma and glamours out the ass, and the type of (fake) credential that can get you in a room with Lofwyr. Combat capabilities don't matter unless they can allow even greater spread of the virus, like spewing bodily fluids or something. Can dragons even be ghoulified?

Your armor accessories are tied to your strength, does that include things like the high fashion coats?

Needs more Pain Editor. Especially if you're going to Cha up enough that you're almost an Elf Techno-assassin.

Besides, too much Complex Form use on that sheet. Same for Sprite use.
>>
>>51695826

easier than I think? Good to know. But, I still have never made a techno before, so I didn't want my first time to be a challenge character lol
>>
>>51695910
I barely use my complex forms, the only time I did it was a Static Veil twice to confuse the NSA DemiGOD while I formatted and rebooted his deck.

Same for sprite, I only compiled a Level 10 Machine Sprite to fuck with a prototype combat drone piloted by an AI, it broke the thing in two turns and then left.

You don't need a pain editor if you never get hit, and this is exactly how I play this TM. If I'm spotted, I static veil myself into copies and then reboot.

Would humanis work with Nazis?
>>
>>51695935
Technically, you do if you ever fail an attack action by three hits or more, or attack actions by three hits total or more.

But that's secondary.
>>
>>51695954

Yes.
>>
>>51695954
I'm sorry you're so unimaginative you need to ask that question. The answer is unequivocally YES YES HELL YES
>>
>>51695954
That pretty much depends on the individuals.
Nazis pretty much only care about you if you are not-white or a jew. Nothing about orks or magic in their agenda.

Humanis ist more about awakened and Metahumans than about skin colour and religion.

i can imagen that a Nazi could get pretty pissed if a humanis member starts beating up a white elf.
>>
>>51695954
Depends on what is more important for the nazis, race (meta-type) or "race" (Arian, Jewish, black, etc.)
Will a Nazi treat a troll Arian better than a human Jew? Will he treat him worse than a human Arian?

IIRC the KKK doesn't work with Humanis due to finding their motives retarded: They don't care what metatype you are, as long as you aren't a nigger
And the vory don't care about your metatype and more about your heritage, a troll muscovite is treated lengths better than a elf tartar/jew
>>
>>51696022
>>51696031

I actually think through the lens of SR, it would be "Humanity, not Metahumanity. They aren't human."

I mean, they were willing to treat other types of humans as nonhuman. I don't think it's much of a stretch to say that they'd only consider humans to be the real humans.
>>
>>51696172
I don't know if that follows that easily
remember: the KKK is racist against "race" but not metatype and Humanis is racist against Metatype but not "race"
Of course they might be racist against both, but being racist against one does not imply being racist against the other
>>
>>51696234

I thought the KKK stopped caring about the Spicks and the Niggers and the Wetbacks, because they got too many Non-humans to lynch first.
>>
>>51696172
Hence why i said
>That pretty much depends on the individuals.

old school nazis didn't have any metahumans or magic around while humanis was created because of it.

at least you will have two philosophical fronts
>those who say that aryan is aryan, no matter how pointy the ears may be.

>those who think that any change from the old aryan human concept makes them some sort of lower lifeform.

and there will also be a mix of those who would rater work with an aryan ork than a nigger ork
>>
>>51694204
Good for you, you're the exact retarded demographic that 5e was targeted for.
>>
>>51696250
thats humanis you talking about
>>
>>51696307
I fail to see your point.

Your inability to understand and run the matrix rules makes them bad how ?
>>
>>51695562>>51695826

Oh look, it's technoshilling time again.
Clockwork did nothing wrong.
>>
>>51696300
Old school Nazis were kind of into occultism, so it's possible they could see the increased strength of orks and trolls as a manifestation of the ubermensh idea, or at least paylip service to it to employ ork stormtroopers, after all they did do mental gymnastics in order to label the Japanese Aryan to conveniently justify their alliance.
>>
>>51696375
On the contrary, I perfectly understand the matrix rules. In 4e they worked almost exactly like magic and combat, there were just extra actions. The problem was the book layouts.
My frustration is the absolute FUBAR that is 5e's matrix rules, that while minigamy and simple completely reduced the hackers capability and utility.

>>
Hey, I'm a bit new to running Shadowrun, but not RPGs in general. While helping make a character for one of my players, I noticed the "Master Debater" trait in Chummer5. Looking it up, it says that it uses Logic instead of Charisma for Diplomacy tests., except I can't really find any test in the rulebook that's called Diplomacy.

So, what the fuck does it do?
>>
>>51696553
>sad thing is, nobody will notice a well dressed german rifleman with a knack for the arcane in the sixth world

Sad?

Jesus christ, give yourself some credit there.

Legitimate Nazi, Who has a DIRECT line to the 3rd Reich, pure of blood and mind, working in the shadows to create what his ancestors failed to do, using an old book of spells form Great Grandpa's War Chest?

This is a GREAT shadowrun character!

Sure, you may be working with some Schweinehund along the way, some disgusting goblins, some prissy damned knife ears, or some overrated midgets, but it is all to a greater goal. It is all to the end goal of finding your own way to weave a spell and/or ritual to cleanse this world of its "Dragons" and "Metasapients"

There is only room on this planet for TRUE Humans. Aryans! And only then will you sleep easy at night, knowing your ancestors would be proud of the work you did.

So, is it sad that you'd go unnoticed? NO! It is a glorious blessing. When everything you do is going to be assumed to belong to a dragon or some other grand mastermind, you can sit back and go with the flow, knowing nobody will suspect you.

The best part is, Black magic is a charisma based tradition, so you can also double as a face, which would greatly assist with you hiding your true colors.
>>
>>51696717

>Do you have any questions for us?

You might consider asking for details about who your Johnson is representing why the completion of this run is important to them, but nine times out of ten it's not important and your Johnson might be slighted by the breach of anonymity. Also, keep in mind that your Johnson will be asking questions of his own, a lot of them centered around why your team is suitable for this, but if you've ever bullshitted a job-interview that shouldn't be hard to prepare for.

I have an interesting dilemma for you, /tg/.

Hypothetically speaking, if I were to add some code into Chummer that pre-filled the Notes field for any object of a given name from a custom XML file, it could allow for GMs to prepopulate notes about their house rules and such. In theory this could also allow some unscrupulous entity to import all the fluff and rules text for any given object. Obviously I couldn't distribute that as part of the main binary, but I'm not sure how much that feature would contribute to CGL being salty at me.

tl;dr can add automatic notes capability to Chummer that would let it show fluf text, unclear on how good an idea it is
>>
>>51697444
Don't take this as legal advise, but wouldn't that be okay as long as you yourself didn't distribute such a file?

I'm making a character that uses BTLs. What can I take to mitigate the addiction, other than Drug Tolerant?
>>
>>51698556
It's a risk/reward thing, chummer. There's mad cash, yeah, but you've gotta spend an hour sitting in a room with a 200 kilo cyborg barely clinging onto his soul and encourage them to let his emotions out.

Try to avoid hypnotherapy.

Poor.
Spend the last 3 sessions gm-ing since the gm couldn't make it for one and did not have time to prepare runs for the other two. Exams, you know. Got some karma and my rent payed for this.
The last two runs i was in as a player were with absolutly no money and decent karma.
So in 5 game sessions i have saved 32 karma and my bank balance have not moved from 4k. I'm playing a street sam. There is no more than 3 days down time.

Hell, I got salty because someone implemented a Herolab to Roll20 exporter like a week after we added that functionality to Chummer. Admittedly it's buggy as fuck because Herolab's data architecture is terribad, but still!

Gas vents are essentially comps, they're mutually exclusive with suppressors. The loudest part of a gunshot report is the escaping gases breaking the sound barrier; if you compensate the recoil by directing gases to counteract muzzle climb, you can't really use a suppressor, can you?

T. /k/
>>
>>51699264
From the Technobook, I kind of want Technomancer Traditions as well as Technomancer Mentor Spirits. Traditions like "Sons of Deus" or "Technoshaman".

>>51699929
I houserule that you can mod Suppressors and Gas-Vents to the same gun, but their effects are mutually exclusive. You can take a Simple Action (Free Action w/ Wireless) to close or open the gas-vents, because future guns.
>>
>>51697198
No, it's the other way around. When you use negotiation for diplomatic purposes, you use logic. Negotiation is the umbrella, the specialisations fall under it.

So when you're trying to convince someone and have that quality, you'd use log+negotiation+modifiers instead of cha+negotiation. You'd still use cha for anything else that falls under negotiation.
>>
>>51694925
Why not generate a rat shaman, rat changling focused on summoning hordes?

Named Bitey McBiteface
>>
>>51699988
Sure, that works. In fact, a lot of modern suppressors are designed to go direcly over muzzle brakes, so you essentially have the same thing except you don't have to remove the can when you want to counteract recoil.

Is there any way to make a viable "support" character? I'm tired of making characters who conform to the Face/Street Samurai dynamic, mostly due to optimization starting to make them look kinda samey. >>

There was >>51687746 on the previous thread, but your guess if they are still looking for a player.

Otherwise, just GM yourself, I tried that and had fun for a while. Just screen players before getting them to the game to prevent the hardcore weirdoes
>>
>>51700955
Because 5e is shit. People try to get into the system, and unless someone handholds them (and nobody wants to handhold on /tg/)through the shocking editing, they go pursue easier things.
>>
>>51700922
Make whatever build you like but leave some money aside to get a bunch of drones with a decent pilot program. Get some for combat and a utility one to repair the others.

>>
>>51700736
It means its addictive. So, I'm planning on building a rigger, and stuggling a bit on putting the concept in paper. I wanna build a dude with a bunch of drones (6-10) shooting for him, not so much him jumped on one and fighting personally.
I just need a RCC with a datajack, right? No need for a control rig unless I plan to get inside the machine?
What are things I need to make a Rigger work? Any traps I should avoid?
>>
>>51701241
Not really. You're better off going without a weapon, cause at least you have magic.
>>
>>51701246

So... Tank mage (dwarf) who could take being ran over by a train?

I'm missing the Stone Golem thing. Do you mean, like, an Earth Spirit? Or does Shadowrun actually have Golemancy?
>>
>>51701289
The core of the Drone Rigger is the RCC. You don't even need the Datajack, but its a really flavorful option that comes with a free noise reduction. Don't forget to take Engineering Toolkits so you can repair your drones effectively, along with the appropriate skill.

Its a trap to dump too many resources into any one drone, because drones violently explode into unusable scrap when their condition monitors are filled.

For your Drones you pilot in a horde with the intention of just spraying suppressing and FA fire with, maybe a little armor is nice, but that is as far as I go with them. You can use the savings to splurge more on your less likely to blow up drones and your tank of a vehicle.

The only point in 4e's favor I see mechanically speaking is that the costs for cyberware and for a hacker setup are far and away more reasonable. I've basically been running 5e with closer to 4e gear prices.

Also, I like a lot of the globalized view (not just Seattle) and plot arcs of early 4e, although basically anything after the tempo arc sucked pretty bad. I try not to think about War and Attitude too much.

>>51701289
I wouldn't put any serious nuyen into a drone that's less armored than a kitted out Steel Lynx, but one thing that you might want to ask your GM is if you can mount a flash-pak on a drone. There's really no reason you shouldn't be able to (they're rechargeable rather than explosive and can be activated wirelessly, which somewhat implies that they can be hardwired), and they give anyone firing at your drone a -4 penalty (less with flare comp, of course). They last for 10 rounds before needing a recharge.

A -4 to an enemy's shooting pool is akin to a +4 to your own dodge pool, which combined with 4-6 drones suppressing someone with AKs, should keep them alive longer.

They took all the problems of SR4 that were merely book layout issues, and minor balance tweaks, then said "Fuck it" Let's make all this worse and put little effort into it. It's like they made 5 over the weekend after finally taking a cursory glance of 4's grievances.

So while most fixes would have been simple, they instead went the completely ass backwards route and then covered everything up with grodnardisms to appeal to an imagined audience of 2e and maybe 3e players.

4 is good and simple, but its books are laid out by schizophrenics in the middle. Lots of important rules just kinda listed midway through here and there.

Honestly, just know a few core mechanics, maybe pick a country that is not really fluffed and call it an "Awakened honeypot" so you have more classical urban fantasy stuff.
Pick up basic fluff on the techside, corps and crime. Anything can be put on a magic side, just if you don't feel comfortable playing with heavy tech, just tell the players no deckers or riggers. Streetsams are not that heavy on tech, and you can make Faces/Infiltrators magical.

Magic-based shadowrun can be really fun, and plenty of people run tech-side-based shadowrun games, just make it clear before the game starts and that the setting we'll be a bit more homebrewed and work out the rest.
>>
>>51704407
Well that's the thing, shadowrun is probably crunchy enough to get in the way of your story, and character creation is involved. You'd be better off trying to re-work Chronicles of Darkness, the system is similar and you could port things you want from shadowrun fairly like metatypes fairly easily.

So if technomancers are supposed to be mages and shamans except for the Matrix, will we ever see some sort of technomancer equivalent to adepts? The physads to the decker's streetsam?
>>
>>51705964
Hey, minor error thing. Prototype Transhuman forces you to take one of Wanted, Allergy (Common, Mild), Astral Beacon, or Insomnia (10), but Chummer just lets you take it anyway. Would there be a way to work that in?

>>51707752
What could be fun as a near-techno is the ability to influence physical objects by touch. You wouldn't be able to use sprites or complex forms but you could essentially inject scrap code from the matrix into devices and gain some of the sprites powers.

Kinda like how Adepts have their own mana-infused abilities, a Techno-adept would have the same.
>>
>>51707877
Running with this, why not an inherent ability where the person influences tech in near proximity and in contact?

Like a smartgun gets a bigger boost in accuracy, augmentations work a little better (and reduce essence less), and machines just seem to always work well for them. Maybe even a way to regain essence lost to augmentations as the soul adapts to the new technological body parts.

At the same time. tech that they don't want to work, such as enemy smartguns, augs, and decks get random glitches around them.

But technomancers do get Paragons. Admit it, all these other blokes messing with Chummer are just sprites yearning to be free from your yoke!
>>
For the unemerged, about how easy should it be for them to figure out I'm not a decker with an implanted deck? Do people who aren't matrix specialists have the ability to figure out why I need an hour or two snooze after cracking that server, or can I just tell them that my "deck implant" uses a hell of a lot of energy when it works like that? Do I need to hide my Sprites from AR so people don't get spooked watching ghost code filter into their gun?

I'm in Neo-Tokyo so I'm a bit edgy about three out of fucking four megacorps wanting to examine parts of my brain with a microscope.
>>
>>51705578
Is it Court of Shadows? I told you, Jerry, I don't want to spend 6 months getting dicked over by immortal elves.
>>
Id like to see a technodept that bonds with machines like a rigger but different. Like they could get something like smartlink without buying it, could remotely fire his weapon, activate wireless bonuses without connecting their gear to the matrix.
>>
>>51707965
The thing about that passive buff aura thing is that A) it's kinda boring to just hand out flat bonuses, and B) half the characters people make from then on would dip into technoadept for the auto-reverse-Gremlins.
>>
>>51708035
>three out of fucking four
It's 4 out of 4. Also AAs and some As.
>>
>>51708035
I will take one MAD scanner or Assessing attempt to reveal that there is no cyberware in your brain. You could try to pretend it's no cutting edge and delta that it doesn't ping, or you could stuff your pockets with cheap commlinks and electronics parts, perhaps even an obsolete and out of order deck, and pretend it's a Distributed Deck.
>>
So what kind of status are the Mormons in in this world? I was reading about the setting of Shadowrun and realized how Utah is now part of the NAN.
>>
>>51708035
You can play pretend relatively easily with a fancied up comlink and 'trodes and pretend you rather not get cyberware because your body rejects them and you don't want the hassle.
>>
>>51707965
and suddenly the world is filled with techno-adept munchkins borged up even more than you can manage now.
There would need to be a massive debuff to go with all those buffs. Maybe yeah you can buff cyber augs but they still cut your essence which cut your resonance which limits the buff ability
>>
>>51708653
Are people really that tech-aloof? I mean, wont me breaking into the cop's cameras with a "commlink and trodes" set off some bells?
>>
>>51709155
Of course it will, but unless you're running with fucking Clockwork the rest of the crew generally won't care and any of them who do catch on will be happy to play dumb.
>>
>>51709155
>Are people really that tech-aloof?

Most people are, yes. If you go to the trouble of cosmetically camouflaging your gear, they would only see a "hacker" with what they believe is a "cyberdeck".

Only people with actual hacking knowledge could see through it. (And, yes, they would do so rather easily.)
>>
So, if I was lookin' to run a small game, 2 people who are relatively new, would it be a bad idea to take a note from Shadowrun Returns? The idea of giving them a small job, which gets them on the good side of someone who has a base of operations and a fixer seems like giving them access to everything they need without just 'giving it away'

There are enough people out there that have complications involving Augmentations that having a set of Trodes and a sack carrying a Cyberdeck wouldn't be an impossibility. Rate this idea for a series of runs:

PART 1: Pygmalion and Galatea
>a Knight Errant contact is Mr. Johnson tonight
>a woman was found dead 3 months ago in Bellevue, but someone who looks just like her has been spotted living in Renton
>his superiors don't want him to waste time chasing dead ends, but Mr.Johnson has a very strong gut feeling on this one, so he's paying out of pocket to have you investigate
>the money isn't good, but if you can find something significant he can acquire police funds to pay you to investigate further

>however they manage to find the woman's residence in Renton, the security is surprisingly tight, though nothing professionals like them can't handle

>the woman is an e-ghost trapped in an R4 Realistic Features Renraku Nadeshiko with no way out
>she doesn't remember how she died, nor how she ended up trapped in the drone
>she's just happy that she did, because the drone is very, very close to what she remembers being in life
>it's also how she met her boyfriend, who was one of Renraku's top drone technicians before he extracted to Shiawase with her so that she could keep the drone
>she mentions that Renraku has been very persistent in trying to hunt her down and get her back, far more than they should for any mere drone, perhaps because they were aware that she was inhabiting it
>the two lovebirds have had to move twice now since they were extracted, and now that you've found them they'll have to move again
>it's not all bad though, this time they'll probably get into the Shiawase Arcology when Renraku won't go after them anymore
>upon receiving this information, Mr.Johnson pays you and requests that you stay on his retainer for a few days

PART 2: Mastermold
>two days later, he hires you for another job and the money is good this time
>though he dismisses the e-ghost as an incredible coincidence, he's convinced that it's no coincidence that the drone resembled the deceased woman so strongly, so he needs you to break into the Renraku facility where the drone was built and get all and any information concerning whomever ordered it that is on file
>he's put his professional reputation and his relationship with his superiors on the line to secure the funds for this, so you had better produce results, damn it!
>security is what you'd expect from the facility, plus/minus a few experimental wardrones, except when they go after the paydata
>the paydata, and curiously only the paydata, is protected by some sprites
>if the runners care to look at the paydata before handing it over, they'll see that the drone was custom-ordered to very exact specifications by a high-ranking Renraku official
>he has also ordered several other Nadeshikos to the same sort of exact specifications previously over the past 10 years
>again, Mr.Johnson pays you and asks you to stay on retainer

PART 3: The Fiend of the Pit
>before the end of the week, he hires you for a third job
>each of the Nadeshiko drones is nearly identical to a woman who had been found dead within the last 10 years, and each was ordered shortly before each woman's death
>though Mr.Johnson and his superiors are convinced that this is no coincidence and that the Renraku official must be involved with these deaths, they cannot figure out how he is involved without more information
>since the evidence is circumstantial at best, Mr.Johnson cannot get a warrant is which where you come in
>you will get into the Renraku official's residence, search the place for more concrete evidence and send him an "anonymous tip" that will get him a warrant and an all-clear for arresting the Renraku official
>he would very much prefer that you enter the residence under legal circumstances, but he's realistic; should you break and enter, he'll be able to frame it as a burglary that will ignore in the face of the current investigation
>the cybersecurity is very tight, tighter than it should be for someone of his position, and the Matrix in his house is CRAWLING with sprites
>4 Rotodrones with Ares Desert Strikes patrol the perimeter of property and there are 2 Steel Lynxes with HMGs guarding the basement, all assisted by machine sprites
>when they get into the basement they find the Nadeshiko drones in a rape dungeon set-up; after speaking with them the horrible truth become apparent
>the Renraku official is a Dissonant technomancer who has discovered a way to consistently create e-ghosts when killing people
>this would be bad on its own, but he is also a serial killer who kills women, traps their e-ghosts inside a drone that looks just like them and keeps them in his rape dungeon because that's his sick fetish
>and just as the runners they go to leave, they find that the Renraku official has come home early today
>with his security retinue of 2 more 2 Steel Lynxes with HMGs, of course

Give extra good boy karma, access to some stuff from the evidence locker, the cop as a contact and/or some info from police files that the characters would want for personal reasons instead of cash.

Howling Shadows actually does have prices for chimeras and genetic modifications. It just doesn't have prices or availability for the base form animals. So you have formulas that are useless, because the equations used are based on information that doesn't exist.

A little unclear, but I'd rule no.

It's a magical condition. If sunlight touches you, you burn. If you include something into your body (like orthoskin) it becomes a part of your aura and you burn. If you're wearing clothes, then maybe you burn (I don't think there's ever been an official ruling in any edition about whether or how many layers of clothes stop the sunlight).

You avoid the penalty by staying in your crypt during the day.

Because Turn to Goo specifically just turns biological stuff into goo. Much like how Detect [Object] only works that category of thing, Detect Elves only finds Elves, Heal won't work on damaged cyber-limbs, and Shape Ice won't move water despite being the same thing.

>and the DM always hard-counters it by saying the ventilation is vacuum sealed and or something
Well, in a reality where turning to mist is a communicable disease, it makes sense. Hell, in a world with like a billion highly potent airborne toxins that can be purchased on the open market, it makes sense they would have filters. It's like complaining they have noise increasing features or astral security.

>turning to mist is a communicable disease
They changed it so you have to really try hard to make people infected, unless you take a negative quality that makes you spread the disease like it's nobody's business. The special ventilation is specifically to stop infected intruders; that's literally the reason they give in the book.

Different spells work in different ways. Direct Combat spells work by pumping mana into your aura or pattern and breaking it.

Essence tagged Healing spells work by trying to return your body into whatever shape your essence pattern says it should be in or modifying based on your pattern. This is why it has a penalty for essence loss, because either the pattern's weaker or has something in the way that those spells can't work around and so some of the effect is pointlessly wasted.

I actually think that Shadowrun lends itself best to realistic characters who just want to survive and provide for their loved ones the best they can in a shitty future world, and it just happens that running is often the only thing they can do or it pays better than the alternatives.

So yes, you shouldn't have dependents, but often there is no choice, or the other alternatives are even worse.
>>
>>51711975
For real though, imagine how fucking terrifying that would be.
>>
>>51711846
Actually, it just states biofilters are a thing in a lot of facilities, implying it's there to filter out any biological material contaminating the air supply. Now, the UV security lights are a different matter.

Anyway, it makes sense to invest in a couple of air filters to protect yourself from vampires if you're already spending millions on astral barriers, security spiders, HTR teams and whatnot.

Needs option for more runs, at least one optional from Mr. Johnson, and one the Runners can choose to do themselves. 3 runs seems to short, without enough time to let the horror of the investigation sink in. An intro mission, before meeting Mr. Johnson would be good. Something where the team catches his attention. It could be by doing related work taking on a technomancer, and getting a reputation for knowing how to handle them, or doing a job that gets them tangled into Mr. Pygmalions plot, like stealing some data or prototype for Pygmalion proxy henchman. Something to ease the players in

Alternative rewards for the run to cash (lol at a KE pawn having enough to pay decent for these runs)
>Keep some of Pygmalions unactivated drones for use on your runs. Imagine the scenarios for a couple of androids usable by the team
>Options for discreet and extremely corrupt KE jobs that pay well (killing a guy guarded by KE a third party wants dead without them getting blamed)

This seems like a great horror arc that'd be sad to cut short. Gotta have time for the terrible things to sink in

You have no idea how essence works, do you?

Short version: Ware fucks with your essence pattern. Hence the penalty to magic, because magic, being a natural force, has trouble recognizing you as a natural creature. But you still have an aura, so spells can affect you. Combat spells generally target your aura rather than any specific physical aspect of you, whereas healing spells specifically target your essence pattern. Hence the issue with magical healing and regeneration and ware.

Inherently magical creatures tend to react even worse to ware, because it fucks up their essence and their essence is part of their actual physical being. Hence why paracritters suffer much larger penalties for installing ware than even normal animals. Your arguments fail to take this difference into account.

Then there's also the rules that clearly state you don't get to take a disadvantage and have it not affect you using ware. For example, Blind doesn't let you see using cybereyes and Paraplegic doesn't let you walk using cyberlegs. If you have a disadvantage, the penalties can't be negated with augmentations, period. So even if you continue trying to logically explain why a vampire with dermal plating shouldn't combust in the sun, the rules state that he still does, logic be damned.
>>
>>51711304
>So if I get a cyberlimb, I burn up if light touches it?
If you get a cyberlimb that would count towards covering up your body - if you fully cover up, that lowers your sunlight allergy one rank. High levels of pollution also lower your allergy one rank, as does UV radiation treatment (radiation shielding on your armour). You can effectively drag all but the most extreme sunlight allergies down to manageable levels by looking like a gimp in a rad suit and favouring heavily polluted cities.
>>
>>51712074
Alright.

Kinda weird tho. If your hands are on fire and you claw at someone with your razornails he should feel the burn, no? And the blade that comes out of your arm should conduct the electricity that you channel with your body.
>>
>>51712245
Honestly, it's such a niche thing that if it isn't overpowered, it should be fine even if it doesn't completely agree with the lore. Talk to your GM.
>>
>>51712190
Well, there's no denying they got the long end of the stick. Even the rulebooks agree on that. They're prettier, live longer, more agile, and overall better than humans, and they don't get the stigma associated with being a deformed freak like most other metatypes.

But it's always important to remember that humans outnumber them by a lot, augmentations make their advantages less dominant than you'd think, and a lot of humans have the same opinion of elves as /tg/. Unless you're in one of the Tirs or something, acting like a stereotypical arrogant elf lord is liable to lead to an epic lynching by human supremacists. Hell, just looking pretty and stereotypically elven can give them an epic assbeating in the wrong neighborhoods.

Even just admitting you think elves are hot online should probably get you derisive comments on par with current day weebs posting AZN waifus from at least a portion of your audience. There's a reason metatype alterations are considered kind of a social taboo.
>>
>>51711926
Like wearing Knuckles or a Stun Glove, they'd be affected by some, but not all Adept Powers. Critical Strike, Improved Ability, and Enhanced Accuracy would clearly work. However, I'd only allow Killing Hands and Elemental Strike to work when you're actually using your fists. There is a wording difference between "unarmed" and "Unarmed Combat" in adept powers which leads to me to believe they intended Killing Hands and Elemental Strike for bare fists.
Get a Weapon Foci Cyberspur and Elemental Weapon (Lightning), then have a wonderful old time.
Also, you can reach a higher peak of damage by using Bone Density/Lacing and Striking Callouses than you can reach with a Spur. If you were planning on playing a punch adept.
>>51712190
Elves are in a lot of ways the superior metatype, really, and I'm saying this as a fan of playing Orks. You live extraordinarily long. At worst, you're as charismatic as the average human. And then you're slightly more agile on top. Elves are exceptionally aware of their superiority, and thats part of their culture as smug fucking cunts.
>>
>>51712225
>Combat spells generally target your aura rather than any specific physical aspect of you
Okay, but does sunlight only target your aura, or is it more like indirect combat spell where it actually needs to hit you?

Infected with the HMHVV 1 interact with augmentation differently; they get to take 'ware really easily, since they can just drain essence from another source.

Allergy is not one of the disadvantages that can't be countered by 'ware. In fact, there's 'ware specifically for allergies.

>>51712232
Thank you for the straight answer, anon.
>>
>>51712074
But that's wrong, cyberware disrupts your aura but once integrated intp your body it is part of it, that's why a mage with cybereyes can still target spells, as the cybereyes count as his natural vision.
>>
>>51712245
The idea is that ware is inherently unnatural and magic is based on channeling your natural power. Hence the disconnect. But to be honest, I wouldn't give a fuck. It's not like spurs are amazing weapons or anything, and you're taking a hit on your magic score. A duraplast combat knife would probably still be a better option for a concealable melee weapon for an adept.
>>
>>51712331
>Even just admitting you think elves are hot online should probably get you derisive comments on par with current day weebs posting AZN waifus from at least a portion of your audience.
You watch your tongue, just because I've got yellow fever doesn't make me a weeb too.
>>
>>51712368
That's not true. The lore is a bit contradictive on the eyes part because the devs had to allow targeting spells through cybereyes but also disallow targeting through other digital viewing devices. Chrome is not a part of your aura, they're entirely foreign to your body.
>>
>>51712357
>In fact, there's 'ware specifically for allergies
The bioware version specifically states, "Only ingestible allergies may be so treated."

The geneware version is even more clearly not for this use; "This treatment cannot be used to treat allergies derived from magical sources or inherent to metatype, including light Allergies for Infected characters."
>>
How hard is it for a cyberware scanner to detect a cyberarm gyromount, assuming standard grade?
>>
>>51712467
I was just trying to show that (some) negative qualities can be negated by bioware; infected or not wasn't an issue.
>>
>>51712505
Well, while I'm pointing out stuff;

>Infected with the HMHVV 1 interact with augmentation differently; they get to take 'ware really easily, since they can just drain essence from another source.

In truth, they get gimped harder by 'ware. It lowers their maximum essence, which means they need to take smaller essence sips more often.
>>
>>51712493
I've always assumed that the cyberware scanner works like one of those scanners they have at airports: You get the shape and dimensions of a scanned object easily, but unless it's readily apparent you'll have to deduce the detected cyberware's function yourself.

Assuming the gyromount is installed into a cyberarm, I'd say that detecting the gyromount's presence is pretty simple but figuring out what it is might require a cybertechnology (or appropriate knowledge-skill) roll.
>>
>>51712493
I'd say it's probably a two or three hit kinda thing. It's specific parts of an existing bit of 'ware, so one hit wouldn't be enough for standard grade, IMO.

Although one hit would show enough to have the operators suspect that there's something up with the partial or full arm. Just not necessarily that it has a gyromount, unless you purchased some brand either known for having a gyromount (so military) or from a manufacturer known to be mostly based in a place where the gyormount's not illegal (in which case they're going to assume that the strangeness is a gyromount regardless of what it may actually be).

>>
Edit to my thoughts here >>51712585
and something for this one here. >>51712568

It also does depend on the database that's supporting the scanner. If there's not gyromounts in that database for some reason, it'll never say more than modified cyber-arm.

Of course, the hard part is messing with that database. Perhaps your matrix support person can do something about it. Perhaps with files gotten from your fixer.

>>
>>51712555
Nope. Less max essence doesn't speed up their essence loss. It's still one per month (or one per 4 months if you're a Nosferatu)
>>
>>51712698
>Less max essence doesn't speed up their essence loss
That's you reading beyond what was said. Don't do that.

If you take more than 2.0 Essence of 'ware, you can only fully drain a standard 6.0 Essence living being when you're at Essence 0. (you can survive at essence 0 for Body + Willpower days when you have Essence Loss)

If you take more than 3.0 Essence of 'ware, you cannot fully drain a standard 6.0 Essence living being in one sitting.

That means doing what? "Taking smaller essence sips more often."

Also;

>Certain powers of the HMHVV Infected accelerate Essence Loss. Any power that is not automatic (meaning it requires an action to use) is Essence-intensive for the Infected. Each use of these powers accelerates the loss of Essence by one week.

Know your Essence Loss weakness inside out. Essence Drain *does* accelerate your loss of Essence.
>>
>>51712846
okay, I see what you mean. I thought you meant "you'd have to get victims more often."

The thing is, Essence drain already takes a long time. It's an extended role taking minutes, and the other guy needs to be incapacitated the whole time. So if you're in the position where you can partially drain a guy, you're in a position where you can keep on partially draining a guy like a juice box

And I already knew about the essence-loss powers. Another reason why Mist Form ain't worth it.
>>
>>51712951
>So if you're in the position where you can partially drain a guy, you're in a position where you can keep on partially draining a guy like a juice box.
Only if you keep them around until you can fill up again. That will be a long time.

Also means you are using the Essence Drain Power multiple times, which means you are accelerating your Essence Loss compared to using it one time.

Wolf with junkyard jaw, cybereyes, auto-injector, narco genemod and a commlink.

Character has critter pheromones and a high rating in chemistry. Now you have a completely non-descript dude with no illegal or suspicious ware who has a fucked up highly illegal mega-murder bodyguard if necessary. He can see through its image link, he can issue commands via commlink without rigging, and mix up ridiculously deadly combat drug cocktails with no risk to himself. Not quite as versatile as an actual rigger, but far less suspicious and less reliant on technology/wireless since an uncontrolled wolf with an armor-piercing bite strung out on milspec combat drugs is more of a threat than a drone operating on its own.

>Can you go without a SIN for a while?
If you want to spend that time getting the shit kicked out of you for being outside the barrens without a SIN.

If you lack a SIN, then you're not infiltrating *shit*. A bog-standard police checkpoint will rock your whole life because then you'll have to either bribe the cops, fight them (and hope you run off before backup arrives), or get your civil rights reamed by a police baton while the cops confiscate all your R/F-rated gear.
>>
>>51714446
That's not entirely true. You can still infiltrate remote corporate facilities & places that aren't closer to corporate central than the slum neighbourhoods that border industrial zones. Even better neighbourhoods are doable, provided you have appropriate stealth tech. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to smuggle people around at all, and doing runs against facilities would be done purely by social infiltration.
>>
>>51701241
You can. In the same way you can get caught at the Iranian border with no papers and not speaking a single word of any language but English today. It is technically possible, but you will get caught fast since scanners are so ubiquitous, and at that point you will be registered as a non-citizen who has no rights at best, and a terrorist who scrubbed his identity in order to get away with incredibly illegal shit at worst. At that point you can literally get arrested for possessing illegal genetics. Even worse if you're a magician since unregistered magic is like carrying around an illegal firearm.

Being SINless is the worst thing imaginable unless you have access to a fake SIN. You can't even enter most stores, much less buy anything unless you can convince them to accept your shady credstick that you can't even prove you own. Walking downtown is liable to cause Lone Star to give you a full body search for contraband (and pretty much everything is contraband without a SIN). And if you get killed they would have a hard time even identifying you since you don't exist on records, meaning that while it's technically still illegal to murder you, it's ridiculously easy to get off based on the fact that you have no identity.
>>
>>51714709
>You can't even enter most stores, much less buy anything unless you can convince them to accept your shady credstick that you can't even prove you own.
You don't want to do this, even when you have a fake SIN. Short of anything with Availability: --, you don't have the choice by RAW. Everything else you buy is black market.
