Really and not an AOE like Grasping Tide or Magic Stones? It'd be the difference between single-targeting and multi-targeting, and I'd want to focus on multiple enemies.

Well, mechanically it's the weakest leader class

But more because shamans are seriously cool, and I don't understand why anyone who would play a sentinel druid wouldn't just play a shaman instead. Just fluffing the spirit companion as an animal companion

There's no such thing as a perfectly balanced system, outside of a system where you have no character creation options and everyone is mechanically identical

In a class-based system, some classes will, inevitably, be better or worse than others.

Compared to other D&D's it is.

Very few classes are substantially weaker than others rather than they do things differently.

Sentinel Druid is probably the weakest in raw healing/leadery stuff but probably does more damage with less effort than most leaders too. It also can take up two squares with fairly tough occupants.

More than previous D&D's your mileage on a class will vary depending on the other classes in the group as opposed to your solo set up.

Essentials classes vary wildly in quality. Sentinel druid was one of the weaker ones, but, it's a great hybrid so there's that.
