You had one fucking job, anon.

How about this: What is your favorite/least favorite Shard/Wedge and why?
>>
>>51651383
Saying anything other than Bant is incorrect. Bant is just the best combination of colors in Magic.
>>

Sultai, I LOVE self mill and I want to win with mortal combat

>Least favorites
Grixis
Sultai
Jeskai
>>
>>51651383
Favorite: Abzan. I love removal, +1/+1 counters, and combos. There's a lot of variety among the commanders in terms of potential play style, too.

Least favorite: Jund. The only decks that aren't just different iterations of "Sac stuff for value" are the worst dragon tribal commander and several joke options.
>>
>>51651383
>fav Shard
Bant, but only for Rafiq. I don't like any other Bant commanders.
>fav Wedge
Toss-up between Mardu or Jeskai, but Ghave is the most fun wedge commander of them all.

Ah shit. Land tax
I remember when I would play with my friends. They hated me after getting into MTG.

Name a deck you can play over and over and never get tired of.

For me, it's Ghave. He has some variance, but always ends up with accidental combos.

Jund and Sultai for favorite they are both just so metal and have fun mechanics. Esper and Jeskai are my least favorite, not necessarily flavor wise I just don't have fun with control.

I'd also say Ghave, he's ridiculous but I only break him out when it's cutthroat time

Otherwise I'd say RG Wort. I packed a lot of different wincons in there and it's fun to see which one you can build to

I started with Alara and I gotta say Bant. Mechanics and aesthetics just feel right to me. Every time I see a card with those three colors together I get giddy. NuTamiyo made my heart soar and I've never been excited for a set like I am for Amonkhet. Can't wait to brew whatever Bant Legendary they print.

Want to make a naya dual commander using these two.

Primary Wincon: Commander damage
Secondary Wincon: saproling shenanigans

Plan is to keep Bruse on the back burner until I need him to give Tana DA/LL.

What are some good ways availible in naya to pump the shit out of Tana?
>>
>>51651802
Anthems? Pumps her and the saps. And Bruse for that matter. I'm brewing something similar but with Ravos instead of Bruse.
>>
>>51651802
Definitely want Bastion Protector.
>>
>>51651802
Kessig Wolf-Run has been pretty much the win condition in my Bruce deck. It's more of a control deck, but still, seems good with Tana as well.

Doublers like Gisela
Firebreathing like Captive Flame/Crown of Flames/Kessig

>Favourite Shard
Naya. I love the idea of giant beasts, I guess there's a big timmy in me

>Least favourite shard
Bant. I don't dislike it a lot, but I find Exalted boring as a mechanic.

>Favourite Wedge
Temur. I've liked the colour combination since planechase, I love Maelstrom Wanderer and decks built around him. Honorary mention to Mardu.

>Least favourite wedge
Abzan. I don't really have a reason, but I have to choose one.
>>
>>51651964
Well, if you want specially cat tokens, then yeah, the Titty Kitty's your girl. If you want tokens in general Rhys The Redeemed is an easy answer, Darien, King of Kjeldir can be fun if you're really married to mono white and all of its problems, Ghave, while more combo focused, can be done as a token commander. Then there's any given Zombie tribal commander.
>>
>>51651383
favorite shard/wedge: esper, because it is my favorite color combination, mainly because I like control and the first intro deck I bought was the alara/conflux esper deck.

Least favorite shard/wedge: temur. I just don't care much for the color combination.
>>
>>51652089
true, but i'm more focused on the voltron aspect of the deck, and I feel like kemba allows me to have tokens and then do voltron

though sram might be better cause he gives me the card draw i really need
>>
I am conflicted between Riku and Maelstrom as my first ever commander. Both seem rad, but I wanted some other people's opinions on the two. I just want to do some cool crazy shit and have fun doing it. Casual edh too.
>>
>>51651383
Favourite Shard: Bant, Because it has fucking Rhino Time Wizard.
Least Favourite Shard: Grixis. No real reason but if I had to choose my least favourite it would be this one.

Most favourite Wedge: Temur. All three of my favourite colors in one, dragons, elves, faeries, merfolk, all the fun tribes. Plus, beat shit up with huge creatures.

Least favourite Wedge: Abzan. Do not know why. I just do not find the colour combination and style to be all that fun or appealing.
>>
>>51652276

I found Riku a bit more fun as a commander, cause I loved copying rite of replication on a craterhoof

So, I'm relatively new to this game. I do have a Teferi deck with a win con of Chain veil infinite mana with lab maniac and self draw.

How do I improve it? What do I put in?
>>
>>51653557
Id probably cut the lab man win since lab man is such a bad card by itself when theres plenty of options even in mono blue, and use some combination of cards that are better by themselves, like blue sun or capsize for your wincon

>>
>>51653735
Well I have both Stroke and blue sun already in my deck for the sheer draw power.
>>
>>51653765
Replace Lab Maniac with Capsize.

It will let you infinitely bounce all permanents on the board. Wins you the game just like Lab Maniac would, but is also useful otherwise as well.

I was playing around on cockatrice with a Tana and Reyhan build. Put lots of counters on tana, get lots of saprolings, use them for black sac stuff or anthem +1/+1's so i have like 20 8/8's.

If youre set on Naya, id recomend Berserk, Bravado, Sword of X & X, Angelic Destiny, Bear Umbra

Fav Shard: Jund. fovorite colors in mtg are black, green, red. Jund fits those perfectly.

least fav shard: Grixis. Buddy in my group plays almost exclusively durtley grixis decks with no wincons exept one single combo. i guess im kinda biased

Fav wedge: Sultai. I like what black and green can do with the consistancy of blue.

least fav wedge: Mardu. Honestly, wasnt fun to play in standard and the only good mardu commander is Kaalia
>>
>>51651383
>What is your favorite/least favorite Shard/Wedge and why?

Jund, because it covers 90% of all Goblins and Oozes, which are my favorite creature types. I'm a huge fan of Red and Green as well.

n my u/r deck I can steal creatures, copy creatures, copy spells, deflect spells, take extra turns, draw cards, wipe the board, destroy lands, burn opponents to the face, mill, go infinite and kill you in several of the before mentioned ways. how is spellslinging limited compared to casting creatures and buffing creatures? you should say that you dont like the archetype but not that its limited
>>

>>
>>51651383
I have never played with tricolor commanders.

I like the look of bant though.
>>
I want to get into EDH so I have some questions: The only way to win is always an infinite combo? Are pure aggro decks viable or not? Is just a stupid idea trying to defeat a player by doing to him 40 points of damage?
Also someone has a R/B Wort decklist that can share so I can have an idea of where to start building the deck? Meta would be casual because all of us are new to Commander so the deck would be a bit budget. Really like goblins and I think it would be fun idea.

I do agree that the C15 commanders do dictate the direction of a deck. It's one of the real big issues I have with the Mizzix deck, with Meren there is leeway in the kind of reanimator or stax deck you want. Mizzix doesn't really have that sort of freedom. It's all spellslinger and nearly all spellslinger, storm or not, start to look disgustingly similar because everyone is trying to go infinite with Mizzix.

That said, I buy precons because they are inexpensive options on starting a deck to build.
>>
>>51655241
>i dont think wizards not acknowledging paper pauper is a bad thing
It's not so much not acknowledging it as pretending it doesn't exist. They pretty clearly have something against the format, though who could guess why. Maybe they don't want to do more playtesting?

>wizards focusing on online magic is a good thing
It would be if it wasn't consistently garbage. MTGO came out in 2002. Let that sink in for a minute. There are people playing it right now that weren't born when it came out. And it's STILL busted as all fuck. And THEY'RE the ones who broke it by firing the people who made it and farming it off to "in-house programmers."

I couldn't tell if this was sarcasm or not. In case it's not because it hurts their bottom dollar and the bottom dollar of the game stores that support them by supporting a format entirely composed of commons. Also unrelated but it feels like theyd have a weird time directly supporting it outside of rarity shifts they already do.

Looks pretty standard, but nothing's wrong with that. I'll say this, I'd try to find room for Zombie Infestation. It's pretty spicy in Alesha. Conjurer's Closet gets work done, too. Infiltration Lens makes her getting blocked not 100% bad. I never seem to get Duergar Hedge-Mage to work to its full potential, but YMMV.

You're at the "throw it against the wall and see what sticks" phase. Have fun with it, she's a good commander.

Breya triggers Metalcraft all by herself and naturally synergizes well with artifact tokens. Take it one step further with YUUGE affinity creatures, anthems and aggressive combat keywords that you can dip into red for. I'd recommend Impact Tremors to capitalize on your tokens. Don't be worried about price, either- look at Pauper for good examples of affinity on a budget. You'll love it if slapping down fatties is your thing.

>>
>>51656579
You have Mike and the ballista out, the ballista shoots off a counter. It's still alive as a 1/1 because Mike gives all non-humans +1/+1.

You can have it shoot itself to die, but then you aren't getting anywhere. It needs another piece to combo off. It's not better than Mike+trike.

Favorite: tied three ways between Abzan, Naya, and Grixis. The first successful deck I made in my group was a Naya Aggro, first EDH was Grixis, and Abzan because I love generic midrange in modern.
Cards after Voice of Resurgence that are glared over are Scavenging Ooze, Sakura Tribe Elder, Courser, and Stonecloaker.

My current commander deck. Its the Yidris deck with about 6 or 7 cards changed.

Ramp up with Yidris cascade, and then make everyone discard their hands into either combos, or to cards that get big based on graveyard size.

Just a blast to play and I get to use cascade without feeling like an ass.
>>
I've got ten decks put together right now and I think I'm at my limit. It's so hard to choose which one to play now that I usually end up rolling for it but even then I don't always stick to the die result.

>Freyalise green good stuff
>Sydri artifacts and combo

>Kozilek 2.0 big and stompy goodstuff
>Sliver Overlord... slivers (Most expensive due to land)
>Marchesa 2.0 fuck all of your shit
>Angry Omnath land stuff and elementals (my worst deck probably)

Lazav could to the trick but the main problem is the lack of flashback spells in general, specially in UB since a lot of them have flashback costs with R (therefore making Grixis a better choice). What a deck like that needs is a tool to make spells have flashback. If only there was something like an enchantment with 2U/R: Target inst or sorc card in a graveyard gains flashback until EOT.

I'm considering running this in Grixis Marchesa to potentially permanently steal a creature, but anyone could activate the ability before I'm able to get a +1/+1 counter on the creature.

In that case, it would be kind of like a sorcery for 4 with "Target creature's controller sacrifices it, discards two cards and you draw two cards."

Ok guys
Tell me your stance on competetive vs. casual edh
Which do you prefer? Do you completely neglect one if so why?
Also how long have you been playing, what is your meta like?

I like both though i prefer at least somewhat competetive games where can't just durdle around until t6 or 7 but have to constantly ask questions and give answers.
Been playing mtg in general for about 3 years but extremely casall for the first 1 1/2 years but only got into Edh like 18 months ago.
>>
>>51661240
I prefer casual. I personally completely ignore Competitive because if I wanted to play something competitively, there's already plenty of options for me. I play Commander to fuck around and crack jokes with my friends for a couple hours, not to wave my "I'm so good at Magic" dick around.

I've been playing Commander since about... late 2009, early 2010? Largely the meta's pretty casual, but there's a few tryhards.

>Tell me your stance on competetive vs. casual edh

Casual, but i don't mean battlecruiser durdle forever edh. play like you want to win, but don't play like winning is the "fun" of the format. Sure winning at the end of the match feels good, but We're not playing for money, we're playing to see weird interactions and playstyles interact with each other, not combo off turn 4 and end the game.

Honestly look at it like sitting down to play Mario party with 4 friends. Having fun with mario party is the actual dynamics of the game. Imagine if after 5 minutes of playing, you ended the game and turned it off. That's kinda like what tutoring for the same infinite combo t3-5 every game is like.

>Which do you prefer? Do you completely neglect one if so why?

Like I said, there's a thin line between playing competitively and playing to win.

>Also how long have you been playing, what is your meta like?

I've been playing for about 4 years. My meta is my brother (and his friends ) , me and my friends, and my girlfriend.

I can understand it to an extent, in the sense that it's USUALLY people who get into Commander and just can't turn off "playing as effectively as possible to win as hard as possible as reliably as possible". It's not that they think "Commander is the perfect format to be competitive in", it's that they can't play suboptimally.

Mardu and Esper are my favorites, simply because of my Queen Marchesa and Sydri lists.

Would anyone here play a format where any rare or mythic creature can be your commander, but you can't have any legendary permanents in your deck? Because modern is cancer, standard is a mess and I don't like the concept of it, I'm too poor for legacy vintage. I also like the concept of commander (having a card you have excess to most of the time (I don't like the tuk rule change btw)) and like when games take some time with threats being answered left and right
Just because my commander deck is able to win on t4 doesn't mean it will because my opponents usually jave answers.
Granted noone in my meta runs food chain or a doomsday pile but very quick mad value generating combo decks.

Temur. It's not horrible, but I feel like either the red or the blue aspect is neglected on any particular card. It's hard to have a green creature that also feels red/blue, but those that do are pretty rad. Its not bad, its just difficult to really carve out its own identity without losing something.

Yes. Just don't but it in a white deck with life gain, like the guy I played against recently.

It's a legit strategy. Just make sure it's not your only deck. My friend has a "No fun allowed" JAAIV deck that he pulls out maybe one in 5 games. Is it frustrating? Sure, but that's part of the game. And it makes winning against it that much sweeter.

A bunch of pissbabies around here will tell you that there's a right and wrong way to play. Ignore them. EDH is an eternal format with a small banlist. You knew what this was when you started. It's all fair game.
>>
>>51663573
You are correct. Chrome Mox exiling a colorless card does nothing, because colorless is not a color.
>>
>>51663259
It is, but like its cousin Platinum Angel it's kind of a trap. Unless you have a specific combo in mind with it, there are probably better includes in whatever deck you're thinking about putting it in. Remember that, without backup, Artifact Creatures are just about the easiest thing in the game to destroy.

>EDH is an eternal format with a small banlist. You knew what this was when you started. It's all fair game.

So much this. "I don't like [X] type of decks and anyone that plays them is [Y]" is code for "I'm a little bitch boy who doesn't actually like Magic, it's just the only thing in life I can succeed at with any sort of constancy."
>>
>>51664148
I think that's a bit harsh, but it's perfectly fine to say "I don't like [X] type of decks" without insisting that people who play them are dicks.

I don't like playing against hyper-tuned combo decks- not because people who want to play Commander competitively are wrong, or assholes, but because I, personally, don't enjoy those games. I think it's fine to prefer a certain level of competitiveness as long as you're not an asshole about other people doing it differently.
>>
>>51652525
Combo with platnium angel.
>>
>>51664175
>I think that's a bit harsh
Maybe, but I see so of this kind of posting on here that I'm just fucking sick of it.

Yeah, I don't like playing against perfectly tuned, ultra competitive, infinite combo decks every time, but 1) It's NOT every time I play 2) people that consistently play that way get singled out really quickly 3) We all have access to the same pool of cards and if winning is really that important to you, there are cheap, good counterfeits all over the place.

I'm just so damn sick of the "Competitive Commander is Cancer" vs. "Casual Commander is Cancer" bullshit. Shut the fuck up and play the game.
>>
>>51664275
Oh, I'll agree with that.

For me, winning's not even important at all. I have no problem sitting down for a whole day of Commander and losing every single game, if they were interesting games. My main complaint is how frequently it turns things into an arms race, where there's only 2 or 3 people left who just wanna play their "fun" decks while everyone else is building Animar and Zur and Rafiq.

With all the Kozilek talk I was looking at how many colorless commanders exist, and I hadn't noticed that flavor text on this before.

This might actually be one of the worst flavor texts I've ever read. It reads like a footnote in an encyclopedia, it's dead, lifeless and boring. This is just too egregious honestly.
>>
>>51664472
Hope of Ghirapur is only legendary so you can't have more than one in the battlefield, everything else scream GENERIC to me.
>>
>>51664275
It's especially hilarious to see people bitching about really predictable decks being OP. Local Fedoralord pulls out Kaalia? Golly gee, however will we get out of this one, Scoob? You know what they're gonna do. Disrupt them, target them down, get on with the game.

Honestly, if unfun bullshit like Leovold doesn't get hated out of the game immediately, people have no one to blame but themselves. You KNOW what it's gonna do. Get rid of it, or it's gonna do it.
>>
>>51664500
Well, that and the fact that it depicts one specific named vessel that they created for story purposes.
>>
>>51664508
The frustration comes from the fact that you get forced into a situation where you either get cockslapped out of the game super early, or you hate someone ELSE out of the game super early. Nobody with any sense thinks Kaalia is OP, but it's not fun when she comes down swinging on turn 3 and instakills someone with Master of Cruelties. It's also not fun if you have to aim every piece of removal you have at one player to keep them completely out of the game.
>>
>>51664472
Oh wow, yeah. That's really dull. I'm not one to hop on the "everything was better back in the day" bandwagon (because I remember back in the day and it had it's own issues) but the flavortext has been really off, lately. SOE was alright, but BFZ and Kaladesh blocks have been more miss than hit.

>created for story purposes

But if you do this consistently enough, the tryhards stop playing those decks. Field testing has confirmed this. Plus sometimes you get treated to a show of autistic tableflipping.

My favorite thing is when they say shit like "I would have won if you hadn't ganged up on me." So, you would have won if you only hadn't lost first? Yeah, no shit. And if your mom had balls she'd be your dad. Sorry you chose to play a social game. Maybe give 40k a shot.

Thing is, that requires everyone else to join in. I've seen communities where people won't "gang up" on the obvious threat because it's 'mean'.

And that still doesn't change the problem of having to completely switch gears on how you play just so you don't get accidentally a one-shot on turn 4.

It's actually much easier to design 5-color cards than 4 color. Keep in mind that prior to C16 there were exactly 5 four-color cards in the game, whereas there were 15 WUBRG ones (16 if you count Transguild Courier)

The real dig would be building a 5 color manabase on a budget for the decks

Nah, C17 will be friend color pairs with some new mechanic like Experience counters was, and/or alternately, with pre-existing mechanics that don't have enough cards yet/have more room to play around with

expect a lot of mechanics from Theros, and sets like Conspiracy

main commander will have the new fancy mechanic like exp counters or interactions from the CMZ, alternate commanders will play with the "return to mechanics", such as an RG Monstrosity commander or a BR Dethrone, so on and so forth

Expect to see neutered or fixed versions of old mechanics for the ones they can't get enough recent stuff for, like Improvise is to Affinity

Expect to see exclusive foil Plansewalker cards in each deck that attempt to cash in on Magic history and/or Tumblr-friendly lore to attract more players to the products, while also ensuring that the secondary market prices stay high for all but the shittiest deck

>>51665397
I actually desperately hope they'll do more partners. They usually don't repeat these so quick because they need time for feedback to come in and process and by then they've already started designed the next year's set which is why we didn't get more old characters immediately after C14 (and they still managed to fail at nailing what players actually wanted-- And I don't even mean Ludevic who i don't even think deserves the hate he gets since a shittier edric is still a a decent card imo, but stuff like all the shitty flavortext characters no one gives a fuck about, instead of characters like Tawnos or Ashnod that would actually appeal to the people that liked what C13 did), so we probably won't get partners immediately unless they pull a prowess and assume that it will be popular and implement it anyway. This is a mechanic that really needs to be consistently supported over time and unfortunately commander product mechanics aren't exactly known for being continuously supported.

Hey, I actually liked always-wearing-cranial plating. Problem was that its abilities aren't what that ability wants. It works well with them but to make her even sorta big you have to go all in but when you go all-in and can be chump blocked to death or can't surprise nut on people with haste or something it just doesn't work. I hate to criticize it because the keywords are actually good with her ability but her not having built in evasion and being so slow to get a hit in just puts a downer on actually dedicating a deck to her, and she doesn't work unless you do since she doesn't get big enough with just a "splash".

She's good in duel at least
