Do you use music in your campaigns, if so, do you use it for any special functions other than ambiance. if not, why?
Personally i use music for setting the mood and trying to instill certain emotions etc.
What you wrote pretty much summarize what ambiance is - instilling emotions.

Only for certain bits.
My players want me to play like 'ambient DnD music' all the time because it would be allegedly atmospheric but I prefer the quiet to control the tension myself.
I play suitably over the top action music like the Doom theme if a drawn out combat especially with one monster starts to get old.

Use that, and if you love it, toss her a few bobs. She deserves it.

I spend a lot of time finding instrumental music for my campaigns.
For the one I currently run I've got one band representing each major faction, and short playlists for ambient, combat and boss battles with each.
I like to keep things simple as I want to focus on the game rather than being a DJ. I keep two or three long (hours long) ambient tracks that can easily be put on repeat. They will play in the background, non-stop at non-intrusive volume. Then, I select a few tracks that would fit a combat situation. Again, the track must repeat without hard cut - most movie/epic music won't fit. What works the best is vidya music. That's about it.
OP here
I'm a believer in that music can enhance situations which are supposed to be dramatic or eerie. Also use a specific song during specific situations, to kind of do a pavlov kinda thing, where if i do it enough ill get the response from the player just from playing the music.
I also have a dedicated combat playlist. dont use much in the form of like village and tavern noice/soundboards type things tho.

Sure'll do wonder for a Metal Adventures campaign.
There is a mechanic for the game I am running which has the players decide favorite music for their characters and pick 4 songs from that list. When combat happens, I play those songs in a shuffled playlist and when their song comes up they get bonuses for the duration of the song.

I don't use music in my campaign at all. I guess I'm a good enough DM to set the tone without needing audio crutches.

>musical crutches
I guess any movie or video game with music is using crutches, truly epic post my dude
