I bought a set of it in Japan, but when I got back home, it was nowhere to be found. If its making a comeback, that'd be amazing.

I had both:
The GBA game was really, REALLY good.
The board game was bland and overpriced.

So, it's a squre-based strategy game where you make the game board yourself by adding pieces each round?

Sounds interesting. Tell me more about gameplay and stuff.

i got the base game and a booster thing when it first came out. felt so lucky what i saw it was a blue eyes ultimate dragon. I still have some of the little figures for it in a toy box.

though now that i think about it i'm more reminded of the architecture/layout of the store then the game

You dice for resources, you spend the resources to place units or have units take actions (move, attack, ability, etc).

Placing units and placing tiles are the same thing.
You place 6 tiles that are part of a cube's net.Tiles must be adjacent to your start or to tiles you placed.
If you don't have room to place tiles, you can't place a unit.
