Anyone get anything cool in the mail today? I got a bunch of pain land in an attempt to speed up and unpovertify my decks. Next pay check i start buying shock lands.

Also I am sure no one cares but these are from card kingdom which i bought from for the first time. Pretty average service honestly, everything ariving at the same time wasnt really worth paying the extra money instead of just going with tcg player
>>
>>51609740
This is the worst flavor text ever.
>>
>>51609767
Needs some sort of board clear imo. Toxic deluge or cyclonic rift would be good, possibly both.
>>
>>51609767
also why is there literally zero artifacts in this deck? Is there something that I'm missing with this list that would make it less beneficial to run any artifact at all?
>>
>>51609877
My playgroup has become too direly attached to artifacts, me being no small contributor, so I'm making an artifactless deck.

It's a petty and arbitrary reason, admittedly, but enough of one to spend like 2o bucks, since it'll probably end in every havin' a laff.
>>
>>51609810
Got some cards for my tribal humans in the mail yesterday. Nothing incredible but I did manage to score a mis-cut Selfless Squire from C16 though which was kind of neat. What kind of decks are do you have where you need this many pain lands?

Also TCG Player is simply the superior online cardshop. I don't even bother asking my LGS if they have the cards I need anymore, tcg player is just easier.
>>
>>51609920
Yea I just saw Energy Flux on the list. Bane of Progress would be really good if you're looking to hate on artifacts.
>>
>>51609925
I have a bunch of precons that have shit mana base such as the 4 color ones. The rest of what I don't use there are going into new decks in the future and one is going into my bruna deck.

I want to build a BIG BLACK deck, but I can't decide between kokusho reaninator and Maga big black mana. Do any of you have any experience with these decks.
>>
>>51610003
I love big black ...... decks
>>
>>51610003
Kokusho doesn't hit as hard usually, but he can be reanimated and be useful and he hits all opponents. Maga is cool, but not as good as Kokusho.
Most monoblack decks are mostly the same decks with different commanders aside from few exceptions, so you can get away with little to no changes if you ever wish to change commanders. You can keep other in the 99 other times if you wish, although Maga is way less useful there than Kokusho.

>>

The fuck? What is that a picture of?

Anyways, yes and no. Daxo of Meletis with a healthy spattering of ramp and control is fucking awful to play against. That being said Brago/GAAIV are generally better choices, and Lazav does the whole "steal your opponent's things" schtick a little better.

That being said, it totally torches decks with strong/above curve creatures. The built in skulk-type ability is fuck awful to deal with if you haven't built a deck specifically to deal with it, and the only thing you have to worry about are various 2 or 3 drop 2/3 commanders shutting your whole deck down.

I bet voltron would be neat with him, but finding all the mana is going to be tough.

Shared Fate replaces your draw step with a different effect. You need to draw a card on an empty library to end the game, and if you can't draw cards, then you can't lose to decking.

>unpopular EDH opinions

99-card decks is a good idea in theory, but actually shuffling and handling such deck (especially when double-sleeved) is impractical and cumbersome in practice.

Another atrocious design flaw of the format is tracking commander damage. That's up to 16 "life totals" in a four-player game one has to potentially keep track of. Along with tracking 40-point life totals and the amount of times each commander was cast in a game.

Multiplayer Magic is bullshit because if one player loses the game early, he has to watch the rest of the game for (up to) several hours.

Command Tower was a mistake.

I don't know what metas you play in but when that happens the game normally turns into a match of Archenemy until that player's advantage is equalized to the rest of the board. Unless you can combo on the spot all the ramp in the world doesn't help in a 3+ vs 1 scenario.

That's a lot of purple rhetoric friend. It's almost like you're trying to incite a stupid argument.

None the less, why do you care? People can play dress up all they want, doesn't mean you have to take them at all seriously if they're jerks about it, and if they aren't jerks about it, why are you being upset at reasonable people?

That's exactly how it works. If you stop bringing up politics, people won't tell you to stop bringing up politics. What kind of tard are you if you think people aren't immediately aware that it's a hamfisted attempt at pandering? I find people who insist on "educating" people about political subtext aren't very bright, and are mortified that sometimes political subtext is a thing stupid people think is relevant.

He is right about commander damage though. It sounds good in theory, because it allows decks with cheap and combat-heavy commanders to be played. But having to track all the different life and damage counts is just tiresome. People use different kinds of dices or write their lifes down and if the board state is already complex, commander damage just turns it into a confusing mess.
>>
>>51612204
Then just write it down. It's not really that hard. I've always used a pad of paper for lifetotals, and making a little box for each commander as it deals damage to me has never been confusing.
>>
>>51612204
I just suggest buying a Boogie Board. They're like $20 on Amazon. Makes you not rip through notebooks or have to manage all these dice, also lets you keep notes throughout the game, manage mana, etc.

Also I think that validating an entire, unique archetype outweighs the minor inconvenience of using a couple more dice.
>>
>>51612204
Everyone keeps track of their own commander damage. That's not hard to do, even in a long game. Do you guys have Alzheimers or something?
>>
>>51612204
>it's hard to keep track of 4 extra dice
Are you dense? My ghave deck can use hundreds of dice. Technically, I need more, but most of the time I combo off at that point.
>>
>>51612053
Breaking down mental illness by demographics is scientifically dubious at best. We don't know of any biological causes of illness other than some mental illnesses can make progeny have a predisposition to that illness. It's correlative at best to say being a tranny makes you more likely to be mentally ill like we can say being fat makes you more likely to have heart disease.
>>
>>51612089
I have nothing against the card itself. It's the corporate decision of WotC to include these characters in their stories I have an issue with. I wasn't even the one who originally brought up the tranny issue in this thread.

>>51612148
>Maybe EDH just isn't the format for you
I just want to play cards with my friends at the kitchen table, and nobody is playing 60-card casual nowadays.
>>
>>51612266
And mental illness isn't a black-or-white definition of a negative health concern, like heart disease. It's a gradient of psychological problems relative to pseudo-science and abstracted normalization. You can be mentally ill, but still a productive, well integrated member of society.

I need to know if player A can kill player B next round with commander damage and if I could threaten player C. Player B has five different dices in three different colors lying there and Player C wrote four different numbers in bad handwriting on his sheet of paper across the table.
It works and I can ask people what everything stands for. It's just not fun.
>>
>>51612278
>I have nothing against the card itself. It's the corporate decision of WotC to include these characters in their stories I have an issue with.

This shit, they just seem like desperate attempts to try and rangle in the LGBT community and add them to the player base. They aren't well written, and I don't know any gay or trans people that like their inclusion BECAUSE of how they did it.

The only people it made happy are SJWs that don't actually play the game. Maybe if they went back to writing halfway decent novels like urzas saga they could create actual trans/gay characters instead of token attention grabbers.
>>
>>51610003
Dunno how viable it will be, but my buddy and me have been toying around with a heavy aggro Yahenni deck centered around vampires and artifacts with some voltron.

Tasigur wheels is pretty unexpected. Get value cards to reanimate, dumb shit like craterhoof, seedborn muse, and leovald, and just steal games. Also you cant beat the ramp from burgeoning, wheels and splendid reclamation in the same deck.
>>
>>51612695
I have the same problem with a UG/x deck. I have mimeoplasm, mormir vig, kruphix and derevi that all need decks, complete with enough tech for exactly one of them, but I can't for the life of me decide.

As for tasigur, just run a big stompy reanimator list with self-mill and delve? I mean, that's the obvious way to build it, but it'll be pretty fun and easy to assemble.

What I would do? Well, I'd make a really aggressive aggro list and fish big fatties back from the yard. One part bounce, two parts beatdown, one part reanimator, I bet it could be fun. I've also been theory-crafting a really nasty discard deck, and I bet BUG would be good at dealing with hand-stax effects like necrogen mists and maybe a little memory jar/mill.

>>
>>51612781
A-anon I think you have that backwards.

IF she's going to be unbanned, she'll be unbanned in the 99. As a commander? It would be "get 15 mana and instantly win over and over again" in the easiest "colour" to ramp in.

Green remains king of ramp.
>>
>>51612916
As an avid Omnath player, I've seen mono black do some things that made me green with envy. It comes naturally to green, but you'd be surprised what other colors can get up to when they put their mind to it.
>>
>>51612961
Black can go crazy but it requires a lot of setup and it's a lot more fragile. One game I did Damnable Pact for X=40, then next turn cast Yawg's Will and did it again. But it's pretty easy to disrupt with removal on their mana doublers and land destruction for Cabal Coffers.

Green often gets a much faster start and can ramp more lands which often keeps it relevant in multiple ways. Against MLD it has mana dorks, against boardwipes it has lands.

Oh please. This hasn't been true for over a decade. His argument was that the rules text of extort, not the reminder text, actually had hybrid symbols in it.

Look it up. Right now extort u/r is impossible without changing the rules, because extort is only w/b.

So arguably extort shouldn't be allowed in mono black or mono white.

Yeah, ban command tower so that noobs have to spend 10 bucks on a mana confluence instead for their multicolor deck.

Command tower is good for the format, it makes everything more budget friendly. And it's not like there's much originality in replacements for command tower, you'd just run city of brass or mana confluence instead, or maybe a triland.
>>
>>51613453
The thing with colorless ramp vs. any colored ramp is that colorless ramp consists entirely of mana rocks that can be immediately used to cast more mana rocks. If you've got a deck loaded with them, you can chain massive amounts of mana together in a couple turns easily. My OG Kozilek deck can get to 10 mana to cast him by turn 5 on a completely average hand. On a good hand, it's not uncommon for him to be on the board attacking on turn 3.

Critical mass of mana rocks is vulnerable, but so damn powerful I can usually outrace the overloaded Vandalblasts.

I assume you're using a mono-green deck. Does it have to be a creature?

Besides Woodfall Primus, Sylvan Primordial, and Terastodon, Tornado is a strong option for repeatable permanent destruction in mono-green decks. It's instant-speed, difficult to counter, and it has no restrictions on what it can destroy. It's also an effective feint to lure out enchantment destruction. The life cost and cumulative upkeep typically prevent you from having it out for more than 3-4 turns, but it's still one of the key enchantments in my mono-green deck for the value and politics it provides.
>>
>>51611081

>This guy is all business all the time

Hm. Since Cumulative Upkeep works off Age counters and the destruction cost works off Time counters, a couple things that can remove counters off of a permanent could make this extremely effective removal.

Nullmage Shepard can offer multiple artifact/enchantment destruction effects if you have enough untapped creatures. Since this is part of her ability's cost, you could even tap creatures that still had summoning sickness.

Wickerbough Elder can provide multiple artifact removals if you have a way to keep -1/-1 counters on it.

Woodripper offers up to three artifact removals, but it'll die as a result.

I actually have a maelstrom wanderer kicking around. What I was thinking was to make whatever deck he's buying while it's in transit so he can use my deck for a different "feel" for the commander. Particularly with Derevi, I was thinking about turning it into some sort of ramp deck, which is my specialty, to steer him away from prison-style lockdowns.

Or, I can just use something strong, but also neat, like a Lazav discard and copy deck, to try and lure him to the jank side.

It's fucking impossible to get actual NM cards on Magiccardmarket. Every seller puts the card condition to "NM" and then writes "nm-" or "ex+". This is infuriating.

There is no such thing as "nm-". That's just ex. If I wanted ex cards, I would search for those.

It's made even worse by the automatic shopping wizard, which fills up the card with your want list. I have to manually re-check each listing to search for the inevitable "nm-" and remove those.

And that seems to be the standard over there.
>>
>>51617977
It'd be a waste of money, sure, but if you already have one lying around it'd definitely still be worth running.
Shadowborn apostles are usually Shirei or Athreos, and crypt accelerates both of them.
And as for Kami, crypt lets you cast something like Winter Orb while keeping counterspell mana up.
