On titans, knights, and the machine spirit

None, it's an idea for a game of dark heresy that I'm GMing. I want to have a knight limp back to an outpost with a dead princeps to warn them about orks/eldar/deldar/tau/nids/chaos. Gonna do it regardlessbut I want some fluff to back me up.

Titans knights and land raiders have very primitive AI which they name machine spirits to make it seem like the machines are simply very energised by the machine god. They believe that all mechanical things have machine spirits though they aren't deceiving you when they say an AI less bolt pistol has amachine spirit.

Also without a pilot the land raider may fire on hostiles at will but wouldn't be able to make real decisions. I get the impressions from Horus heresy novels Titans without a pilot can simply become sedentary or enraged at inactivity which they can take out on a new pilot and break their mind. Then they can go rampaging with the union of AI and pilot's mind

I recall reading of a Landraider that lost its pilots during a WAAAGH.

When the orks came to board/loot it, it waited for a sufficient number of the aliens to enter before shutting down its internal controls and sealing its door. Then it proceeded to rampage across the battlefield, guns blazing at full speed. When the orks finally got it to stop, the Landraider detonated itself.

A Knight's machine spirit probably could do that, especially if it was the dying instinct of the pilot. You could have the knight make it back to the household's castle just before it completely collapses, and when they go to fish out the pilot, he's been dead and cold for hours.

Don't have it transmit or 'speak' or anything though. Just have a bunch of dead orcs or a banner or something in one of his hands or skewered on his destroyed gun/wedged into the body.

Priests of Mars has Titan who goes rampage when other Princep challenges it.

Titan moves and fires Plasma Annhilator through ships hull which is carrying them, all against its own Princeps and crews commands. Then it goes into coma for what it had done.
