Infinity is a 28mm scale futuristic skirmish game by Corvus Belli where Ana wants to be hardcore, but her filthy Tohaa enemies don't let her.

Going off a topic from last thread, a free other thoughts occured to me.

First, theoretically, let's say I hack off Nesaie Alke's CCW and replace it with a chain rifle (probably from the cheeki breeki spec-ops extra weapon sprue) and leave off the spitfire on her back. Could I then legally use it as a chain rifle Thorakites?

Second, let's say you have a unit with Scavenge, in my case the female Bandit model. You get an extra weapon from anywhere and hack it onto the model (in my case onto the Bandit's open hand); the trooper does not have a profile for that weapon, but the fluff explaination is that the unit scavenged the weapon. Would this cause issues at a tourney?
>>
>>51598869
Why would you do the latter?

First, forget about what CB says, they have strict proxy rules and 99% of events have some proxy allowance (max # or #% proxies, unit must match but weapon doesn't have to, etc.). So anything I say will vary from event to event, ask your organizer.

Second, Nesaie is not a Thorakites, she just links like one, they are different units. Just like Myrmidon Officer and Myrmidon are different units.

Third. one of the stock Irmandinhos has a combi rifle (no combi loadout so it's only available from Booty/Scavenger) and I haven't ever seen it cause problems. Then again, this might happen because it's stock and they might be less lenient towards someone who goes out of their way to be non-WYSIWYG, so YMMV.
>>
>>51598869
Except for some very anal people I have never seen anyone actually enforce WYSIWYG, proxies are mostly accepted or encouraged

I have no idea why you would butcher alke or the bandit, but if it floats your goat then go for it

Again, unless you're in some kind of polack hellhole nobody will give you the least bit of trouble for using proxies in a game where proxies have been ok since day 1, as long as they are mostly CB
>>
>>51599121
Generally proxies are fine unless they are confusing. In small numbers and made clear to your opponent, I see no issue.

>>
>>51599551
>Is it ok If I use the combi rifles one as a chainrifle
Usually yes, without any conversions needed.
I commonly see Fusilier Hacker used as FO, just to signify that this guy is a specialist.
>>
>>51599064
Such a thing is possible Celestial Guard (+Crane Rank) is pretty solid on its own, now with available Mad Traps for extra protection from Jack-Xi Zhuang, just that if you go for a Wu Ming core you might find yourself gravitating to "Limited Insertion" type lists.

>>
>>51596960
>implying they even want your seed
>implying they want anything to do with you beyond murder and possibly manual labour
I'm sorry anon, but you must be proactive for the rape to occur. Even if you're somehow lucky enough to find a morat with a human fetish, she would need to make sure the neighbours didn't find out about her deviancy. If they discovered you they'd probably just murder you, and not in a sexy way either.
>>
>>51602479
>you must be proactive for the rape to occur.
Are you saying if you resist, that the Oznat will rape you harder?
>>
>>51601602
Frankly I am pretty sure its a universal saying, Maybe it was the syntax of the translation that made the other anon think it was moonspeak?
>>
>>51603415
No, it's not nearly that simple. The problem is that the vast majority of morats don't actually want to rape you, and even the ones that do probably won't unless it's convenient and they're unlikely to be discovered. You need to go out of your way to cause it. I'd expect aphrodisiacs to be quite valuable here.

desu it's a lot of work compared to just restraining the alien and putting it in, but if you're into that sort of thing I guess it could be rewarding. You should probably have some sort of escape plan though unless you really do want to die afterwards.

Is shooting someone trying to claim an objective a face to face roll? My group has been playing it that way, but the way they word it it sounds like both actions have to be able to cancel the other. So getting shot would definitely cancel the the objective claiming, but claiming doesn't effect the shooter. Its pretty vague as is, I wish they just laid out a list of opposed actions that result in a face to face roll.

Typing this out a reflecting on it I feel even stronger that we've been doing it wrong, as we've also been counting shooting a medic trying to revive someone as a face to face, but it just doesn't make sense in my head now. What the hell is a face to face roll besides shoot-shoot, shoot-dodge, hack-hack hack-reset?
>>
>>51605364
I've been treating it as normal rolls. Always imagined it being you hitting the button and getting shot or your corpse falling on to it. Sure, he's dead, but he uploaded MorlockxHelot porn.
>>
>>51605364
Nope. Only the various kinds of attacks and dodges prompt face to face rolls. If it isn't an attack and it doesn't say that the unit dodges in the skill's description, it's a normal roll.

I see absolutely nothing wrong in playing intent, to me it looks like a rational semplification that prevents the game from being bogged down by endless repetition of "which models see me here? and now? and now?"

What are the points people bring when they criticize intent play? Honestly curious.
>>
>>51610067
It is understandable why people would want to use intent and personally I don't mind but at the same time I can't help but feel that it is somewhat unfair to the reactive player in some situations, like when peeking around corners at a closely packed fireteams
>>
>War is Peace.
>Freedom is Slavery.
>Ignorance is Strength.
>Outrage is Manga.
>>
>>51610202
I'll defend that decision. Weebs are more likely to buy something called a manga than a comic, and Infinity has a lot of weeb appeal. Not to mention that CB staff are a pack of weebs themselves.
>>
>>51610202
In my admitted ignorance I tought manga was mainly a term to define a certain drawing style, you know big eyes, stereotyped features and all that jazz. Doesn't Outrage fall under this category? It certainly isn't a western-style comic.

>>51610113
>it is somewhat unfair to the reactive player in some situations, like when peeking around corners at a closely packed fireteams
Well I can definitely see that. But LoF in crowds is always gonna be a complex situation, and barring some rules fix by CB or the use of a tournament clock the opponent is totally allowed to continually ask for LoF checks until he's in the desired position.
Intent is not the perfect solution but it's the lesser of 2 evils.

If the games you play are just small scale covert operations, then what's conventional warfare like? Lots of line infantry, supplanted by heavy infantry, TAGs, armor, and air power?
>>
>>51617116
I'd imagine a good deal of open war is naval in the Human Sphere. But on the ground likely more TAGs and vehicles with a greater number of soldiers.

I am new to this game, I only watched a few batreps on Youtube (mostly Gaming with the Cooler) and I am very interested in the game, but as for where to start, I know there are a lot of packs you can buy, but I was wondering, how do all the factions play? What are their strengths and weaknesses?

Or is this what I look at the Faction Rundown in the OP for?
>>
>>51617381
I mean, that's what the faction rundown is generally for, and the main website has a small rundown as well.

I can quickly run it by you if you want though:

Pan Oceania: Shoot good. Best TAG. Great heavies. Decent elite Light Infantry choices as well.

Yu Jing: Tech oriented as well, great heavies, interesting LI to supplement them. Has ninjas and warbands. Was supposed to be the CC faction but really branched out to encompass about every role.

Ariadna: Make up for lack of tech with numbers, normal camouflage, certain skills and the werewolves that don't get taken as often as they should.

Haqqislam: Gets called the Light Infantry faction (misnomer due to its great heavies as well) and has an abundance of great doctor plus options. Little less Tech oriented than YJ or PanO but has high WIP, cheap smoke, camo, and well rounded specialists.

Nomads: Board control: the faction. Hackers, Flamethrowers, Medium Infantry, and mines out the wazoo.

Combined Army: Elite aliens who get tons of skills to pay the bills. Has bots, misc sneaky aliens, warband-ish aliens, and klingon-like monkeys.

Aleph: High tech robot guys and greeks who pay points for better stats, NWI/Dogged, ODD, armor, and Ghost Shenanigans.

Tohaa: Not really a beginner faction. Lots of fireteams by default, but up to three max, lots of funny equipment and beasts who can cause some trouble. Their Light Infantry can hit hard due to being mostly (pseudo) two wounded (a bit vulnerable to fire).

Overall it's kind of difficult to boil down play styles of factions as most players will find their little twist to it. If you know you're facing Yu Jing for example, you're not going to be sure what they're taking, besides the likely usual roles of some kind of infiltrators, and light guys who cheerlead the power pieces, but everyone takes those kind of roles anyways.

Is there a way to learn how to paint infinity models without destroying them first? Some sort of noob guide or something, that makes the models look decent. It doesn't have to be breath taking, just something that doesn't make me one to vomit when looking at models.

You can just strip and start over if you're not satisfied.

I'm newish, but I already know a good amount of the basic rules. I understand how one gets into CC and when you can declare CC attacks.

And it's because I know these things, that I ask if the wording here is not just poorly, but plain wrong.

"CC ATTACK DECLARATION
REQUIREMENTS
For a troop to declare a CC Attack either in its Active Turn or
Reactive Turn, it needs to:
» Be using a CC Weapon, or a Skill or piece of Equipment
capable of a CC Attack.
» Be in base to base contact with an enemy.
The player must make sure to meet all Requirements BEFORE
activating the troop and declaring the CC Attack."

Consider this context: Active Turn for trooper A. A stands 3" away from B. He activates, moves declares moving into btb, B's ARO is CC attack, A's second skill also CC attack.

This is legal. In this light, I interpret the intention of the quoted part as: "Before you activate, make sure that you will make it into btb before declaring the CC attack." Which I find problematic, because
technically you can't "make sure" to reach the target, since measuring before declaring anything is forbidden.

Surely the quoted part can't mean that the model has to be in btb before activation in order to be allowed to attack.

Is there an intended logical flow in this rule statement that I'm not seeing, or is this an actual logic-mistake?
>>
>>51620655
It's just a mistake. They mean that the criteria must be met specifically before declaring the CC attack, you can activate a different first skill while not btb.

If you don't end up in btb and declare a CC attack it just fails.
>>
>>51620655
I activate the model and declare move and move into B2B.
My opponent activates their model and declare their ARO.
I check that I meet all requirements, including B2B, then activate my model and declare CC.
>>
>>51619563
I kind of a did that twice already and they are still coming out bad. I tried finding some sort of paint guide, but non of them are ment for new people. Or they make the assumption that someone pays god knows how much to paint stuff. I tried to ask around people, but non of the advice seem to improve the looks of my models. If anything they are coming up worse. My first models looked bad, but at least their had some of the colors in the right place, not I tried the thin paints stuff, and the first time I tried to use 50/50 paint to water ratio, it just spread the colour all over the model, as if I put it under runing water.
>>
>>51620655
While all actions in an order are considered to happen simultaneously, you still declare the individual components of the order sequentially.

In your example, Trooper A declares his first short skill as a short move, and moves into b2b with Trooper B. At this point, Trooper B can declare an ARO, which he does. Troopers A and B are now in b2b contact, because Trooper A's movement put him there, so Trooper B declares his ARO to be a CC attack. (Note that Trooper B could also choose to declare a BS attack if Trooper A was in LOF before hitting b2b should he so choose, because Trooper A spent part of his first order out of b2b). At this point Trooper A declares the second half of his order as a CC attack of his own. The game moves on to resolution of the Face to Face CC attack.

tl;dr: Infinity's orders exist in a weird quantum state where everything is both simultaneous and sequential. Best not to think too much into it.

Question about Infinity lore.
How many wormholes in universe? Is it something totally common like hyper-ways in Star Wars or there just few wormholes and for most of space travels humanity using hyper sleep like in Alien universe?
>>
>>51621816

I had a similar experience when I started painting. I get the thin your paints meme, but depending on the consistency of the individual paint, 50/50 may be a bit too much water. It's a fine line between too thick, and watery to the point of being uncontrollable.
>>
>>51624024
They're in every star system in the human sphere, and are the only reason humanity has access to those systems. Anywhere without a wormhole, we can't get to conveniently.
>>
>>51624024
The Human Sphere is a very limited and specific web of wormhole links.
>>
>>51624084
One thing that I recently learned about that has helped me tremendously: matte medium. Add a drop or two to a thinned paint mixture, and it gets the paint to act like paint again instead of colored water. You can get it at just about any craft store, and a bottle will last a long time.
>>
So 0-12 is the UN of the sphere right? Why does it sound like mankind in infinity is gonna go a different shade of UNSC on the combined army?

Looking forward to when their released near the heat death of the universe and we can finally see their Zeta TAG too.
>>
>>51624532
O-12 is like the UN but actually powerful. They don't need to rely on others to kick the shit out of people, they've got a planet and an army.

The human sphere probably isn't going to stop fighting among themselves at any point. Even if they unite on the surface the backstabbing will still continue.
>>
>>51622039
No. I have never seen any books on painting models. I know that no are sold at shops here.
>>51624478
Am not sure what mate medium is. Is it some sort of varnish?

>>51624084
Ok, but how do you know that the mix is right. I tried a few and all ended up with my models looking bad.
>>
>>51625169
I know some people look down on it, but when I figured out dry brushing I felt like my painting skills doubled in a day. After you base coat the part your painting, use a lighter color and just rub almost all the paint off your brush on a paper towel or something, and just brush away on top of the base coat. The small amount of paint left on the brush will only hit the raised areas, highlighting the model. Looks decent with minimal effort.

Also washes are an easy way, which is basically the opposite idea. a really watered down thin paint that fills in the cracks and low points on a model to provide easy shading.

Pic related, all done in dry brush. Also use a brush you don't care much for, cause its a bit rough on it.
>>
>>51625674
how do you get two different colors of green, are those two different paints or is that brushing thing giving that effect?

Anyway I'll definitly try it and see how it works, thanks.
>>
>>51625975
Not him, but mixing paints is a thing.
>>
>>51626021
is there some sort of guide to know which paints to mix with other paints?
>>
>>51626471
Pick two colors, mix together. If you get a dirty grey or brown and it's not similar to the base colors, these two don't mix. Simple.
>>
>>51619225

Seconding this >>51625674
Basecoat > drybrush > washes is basically the classic GW paint method, it will give you decent tabletop quality models withouth much effort required. Since you're just starting stick with it, when you have some more experience then start looking at more advanced techniques.

Also watch YT videos if you don't undertand something in practice, I suggest Dr.Faust Painting Clinic but there are countless more.

>>51626471
Pretty much every paint is miscible with each other as they are all water soluble (with some rare exception)
Just to know, what paints are you using? Primer?
>>
>>51626527
ok. that would require owning a lot of different paints to do. Thanks for explaining this to me.
>>51626596
What is a yt?

>>51626596
I think those are primar. I have some valejo ones, and black, green and skin color from GW.

When I go home I'll try to check that Dr Faust Clinic, and try to drybrush some of my models.
>>
>>51626724
>What is a yt?
Youtube, presumably.
>>
>>51626724
I mean, do you use a specific primer (either spray or brush-on) on the model before painting? Some beginnner painters overlook this part but it's extremely important.

In any case paint thinning is a matter of preference and experience, someone likes them more firm and other likes them runny like washes. Personal advice is to learn watching painting videos, and also a wet palette helps tremendously.
>>
>>51626875
I paint the models with white color first. Someone told me to do that at our store.
>>
>>51620883
>>51621477
>>51621838

Okay, thanks. I think the crux of me failing to understand was the term 'activation'. I considered activation to be equal to the process of spending an order, meaning the whole process of using up to two skills, briefly interrupted by an ARO, being considered to be 'one activation'.

But by your statements I find that it means 'to declare a single skill', so up to two 'activations' per order.

Not sure if the rest of the rules follows this assumption, but at least I know what I'm looking for now. I like my logic.
>>
>>51625169
Matte medium is a paint additive; a substance that you mix in with your paint in order to alter the consistency/physical properties of the paint. If you go to a craft store and look in the painting section, you'll find it.
>>
>>51626988
Make sure that the white you're using is primer, not regular paint. It will say primer on the container if it is.

Primer is a very important first step, and if you aren't priming your model it would explain why you're having so much trouble.
>>
>>51628279
It says Citadel Skull White on the pot. So I guess it is not a primer. it looks like there are a lot of paints needed to actualy paint models.

Tried dry brushing, but I guess am doing it the wrong way or different colours are required to drybrush then the ones I have. My celestial guards went from pink orange to more pink orange and less detail, nothing like in the videos.
Although to be honest the dude making the video did say that the method sucks for chest armor and smooth parts of the model, and all yu jing stuff seems to be is nothing but smooth .
>>
>>51628341
well yeah lol, you need to drybrush with a different color (usually a ligher one) otherwise there's no point. It doesn't mean you have to buy another pot, just mix a little bit of white or something to your base color. Having a lot of different pots is nice for speed and convenience but you can do well just with some smart mix.

And you definitely need a primer preferably in a spray can. You don't need an expensive brand like GW or vallejo, some folks say certain automotive primers are even better for a fraction of the cost. I've heard wonderful things of Duplicolor sandable primers but I don't know if you have access to them (they don't sell them where I live too, goddammit)
>>
>>51628920
>you definitely need a primer
Standard grey acrylic's worked fine for me.
>>
>>51628934
well good for you then but a primer is not the same thing as acrylic paint, it's different on a microscopic level. Giving a base color is a secondary function, the first one is giving better paint adhesion so you can basecoat with thin layers
>>
So what's your favorite unit logo? I like the Djanbazan one (with a soft spot for ninjas which are just black).
>>
>>51628920
people told me that spry primer is a bad idea. you can't use it in house and it too cold to use it outside for most of the year.

I will strip the paint from my models, maybe the dry brushing will work.
>>
>>51629607
unless there's actual snow and ice outside I doubt it's too cold to use rattlecan primer. Main concern is humidity but then again I think it's mostly an exaggerated issue as I used spray primer on rainy days with no discernible effect.
If it's really too cold to use spay then there are primers you brush on like normal paint, see if your store has them.

Don't forget to try the washes, you'll find they help very much. Go for Army Painter brand if you find them, otherwise Citadel should be fine. Stay away from Vallejo washes, their normal paint products are outstanding but washes are no bueno.
>>
>>51629871
>unless there's actual snow and ice outside

>>51627036
Activation is whenever you have a model do something. Spending an Order and AROing are the main ways for a model to be activated.

In Australia it would be quite hot. Btw you just need to be outside for the 1-2 minutes it take to spray some models, it's gonna be ok. Better than the result of paining with no primer anyway.
>>
>>51630642
Well you're playing Steel Phalanx so you'll Human Sphere, but that's free online (but it seems you might prefer print). You need that for sectorial rules, unit profiles (although that's covered with army builder), and the fireteam rules.

A Tape measure for measuring distances.

>>

I've got the tape measure, and I'll see about picking up Human Sphere.

Are there any templates or anything I'll need?
>>

templates, silhouette markers, various assorted markers (camo, status, orders). You can either print and cut them yourself or buy the plastic versions from some manufacturer.

Also a measuring tape is essential. A laser pointer is handy too.
>>
>>51630768
>or buy the plastic versions from some manufacturer.

>parallax errors
Okay, I've been able to follow most of the discussion, but what the fuck is a parallax error?
>>
>>51630833
Never learned that in high school science or something?

Anyways, it's the way distances and lengths can seem different depending on perspective.

For an example on the table, being unsure if a model falls under the effects of a template because the template looks like it covers the model from your perspective on one side, but not from your opponent's perspective on the other.
>>

USAr is very "shock and awe" just like the current US army, and they do well when castled up

A team of grunts with a flamethrower, hmg and sniper in a rooftop is a very scary thing

If you want to put the fear of god into your opponent take Van Zant, walk him onto their rear end and get into melee with some fiddly weaklings

Will the Japanese Sectorial start getting more resculpts in the near future? A friend of mine was interested, but turned off by the outdated mashed potato sculpts. He'll probably roll vanilla YJ in the meantime.

A lot of the recently released sculpts seem to be either Imperial Service or what will become the Invincible Army, which makes me vaguely concerned that they're going to wait for Acheron Falls to facelift JSS like they are with Shasvastii and Merovingians, as opposed to actually releasing the Invincible Army like they should. CB has set a precedent for that manner of bullshit.

Its -19 celcius durning the day, plus the wind is very strong. I would freeze my fingers off If I tried to spry them outside right now.

to be honest the only paint stores here have are the pots, no one carries cans, because kids may buy those and it is illegal here. The big store spry cans on the other hand have anti freezing stuff inside and other paint doesn't stick to it at all. I made an error with my first redveil set and had to throw out all the models.

Concerning the dry brushing thing, if my models are mostly orange/black/grey then what colors should I buy to dry brush them with? I tried valejo orange on orange and it didn't work well. Tried it with some white added, it only go worse.

The main problem is that the core of most of the sculpts, the starter, is still one of the best selling boxes, so there's no need to replace Keisotsu (which tends to be the most complained about). Otherwise, they have decent modern standards with Yojimbo, Miyamoto Mushashi, Domarus, Raiden, Yuriko, the O-Yoroi (who'll be getting a pilot model soon), Aragoto Hacker, Asuka, and the Haramaki who can pass for the modern standard at a glance. The older Sculpts that might not have aged as well are the Karakuri, a couple of blisters and the starter, which is still selling well. Most people would tend to think that the Support box, Oniwabans, and Ninjas look pretty good so they're not a problem nor high priority target, nor should they be.

Would I instantly buy a resculpted starter with new Keisotsu, A Ninja, and Kempeitei even with the obligatory subpar sniper in a starter that would probably be the Raiden Seibutai Sniper? Absolutely.

Hey folks,

I literally just picked up Red Veil today, and was interested in a few things
1) is there a unit compendium somewhere? do you normally just print an army list with your stats? I assumed there were stat cards, i guess.
2) how do you qualify your lieutenants? Like, just mark down "male trooper, no helmet?" or something like that?

i haven't played yet or even assembled them, but I'm itching to.
>>
>>51641251
If the Red Veil missions are similar to the Icestorm ones, they tell you what unit your Lt is. It's supposed to be hidden info, though, so it's best if you just remember it.

Most people use Army, which is an army list creation utility that gives you the statblocks.
>>
>>51641251

Firstly, welcome to the game

1) There is an online army builder in the OP which handles the brunt of your listbuilding for you. It also has a function to print out a courtesy list which includes stats, movement values, rangebands, etc. It also omits all of your hidden information, so it can safely be referenced by both you and your opponent.

2) Yes. Certain units have different lieutenant profiles (again, easiest way get used to all this is to use the army builder). You choose a lieutenant when building your list, and at the beginning of the game jot down which unit they are. Physical descriptions are a good way to specify a given model.

I've had some Nomad stuff for two years with intent to go into Infinity after I paint it, but without anyone to play I had little motivation to do so.

At work a few guys were into Warmachine and after having dealt with 40k I was looking into a game I could play with my work buddies. Problem is I found Warmachine ugly.

One day I went to the FLGS and they had a sale on old Infinity sculpts. I got the HMG Hellcat girl and went to work with it. The Warmachine guys saw what I was carrying, got interested, I googled some more pictures...

Needless to say only one guy remained strongly in Warmachine and everyone else switched to Infinity.

To be fair a lot of them are pretty fucking cool. If I found a bunch of different good symbols that almost nobody knows about then I'd definitely use them for my wargame.
>>
>>51641704

Yeah thats true. I actually will probably use some of those flags for the not!Asia portion of my group's Pathfinder setting
>>

>do you normally just print an army list with your stats?
Yes. Or make a PDF and put it on your tablet/phone.
>2)just mark down "male trooper, no helmet?"
Yes. If you have multiples of a given model, it helps to differentiate them somehow (I use "random" debris on bases or hair color).

Why suppressive fire state is -3 to opponents
>>
>>51645125
Because it's representing them taking less risk to get a shot off, so it affects their ability to take action.

You think you'd shoot well barely peeked out and holding your gun awkwardly as bullets covered in poison fly around you?
>>
>>51645125
Because it suppresses them. People are less inclined to stick out their head to make a shot when bullets are flying all around them.
>>
I ain't afraid of no bullets
>>
>>51645307
>Set my HRL Fasid into suppressive fire with his SMG on AP and in cover.
>Opponent's Taskmaster just walks through it passing every roll and melees the Fasid to death

Guess when you have that much drugs in your system you bend reality around yourself.
>>
>>51632781
Superior Infinity tactics brilliantly summed up.
>>
>>51645343
Oh man, had a similar experience with a HMG Al Fasid and Hassassin Ayyar. Just took every shot like nothing. That Taskmaster either underwhelmingly dies without much problem or tanks everything that is thrown at it.
>>
>>51645469
Taskmaster best master.
>>
Last weekend I spent 5 orders throwing guided missiles at a cameronian

He took all 5 like they tickled

Guess that will teach me to waste orders shooting missiles at a guy with total immunity
>>
>>51645770
Total Immunity fucks my shit up sometimes. Low power units but compensate with stuff like viral and breaker, then here comes McMurrough and traps me in a corner with grenades.

Regular Corregidor player at the shop always uses him, so I try to bring at least one solid high burst weapon just to try and get over him. HMG Djanbazan has been my best buddy for that.

I play both. Infinity has better rules, but both have appealing fluff, for different reasons.
Infinity is the future I hope for, 40k is just don't-give-a-fuck fun.

I'm trying to convince my GM to run an Infinity campaign, but he's not currently a fan, and I'm not sure where to point him to give him enough fluff to interest him.

That's easy. Capitalism, and a monopoly on all variations of their IP, combined with a virulent C&D campaign and a marketing campaign that set them up as essentially the ONLY scifi tabletop for years insured they'd have a fanbase capable of drowning out most competitors in a deluge of fan-made noise.

I'm glad they added the fluff blurbs onto the units in the new catalogue. Having the rules online is nice, but the fluff is what draws players in.
>>
>>51646769
As someone who also plays both, GW is about doing random cool shit with no idea of balance, just "This is pretty rad and feels good to do". Infinity is a lot more structured, about tactical thought and deep play. Also, GW's been gradually pulling itself up out of the hole it dug. There's a long way to go, don't get me wrong, but at least they're getting somewhere.

I'll play Infinity when iw ant a fun tactical experience. I'll play GW when y mind's fried from a long day of work and I just want to move shit around the table and roll some dice.
>>
>>51646902
>Capitalism, and a monopoly on all variations of their IP, combined with a virulent C&D campaign
Irony.
>and a marketing campaign that set them up as essentially the ONLY scifi tabletop for years insured they'd have a fanbase
Even double irony since GW never was able into marketing.
>>

My completely no-money involved fan page on fb got hit with an official warning about potential lawsuits for trying to make money off of the IP back when we only had 1,000 people.

I just can't play 40k anymore. Each time I roll my favourite roster I'm getting rekt. And understanding that fixing things would require spending money worth 2 or 3 infinity tournament armies doesn't help as well. Not even talking about how boring it is to wait for your enemy to finish his turn.

What you guys could do is make an infinity campaign using the tabletop rules and making the PCs as high-exp SpecOps with maybe 1 or 2 extra wounds

It would literally be like playing the tabletop, you just gotta come up with some interesting scenarios

Actually I kinda feel like doing this now, expect some writefaggotry

>>51647947
> make an infinity campaign using the tabletop rules and making the PCs as high-exp SpecOps
Thats pretty much the idea, yea. I just really want a game that will give modular replayability with enemy AI. Like, even if I design the dungeons the enemy can do different things based on chance/if-then AI. Have a kind of table top XCOM not like the current XCOM boardgame.

Having terrain modules with varying enemy spawns/mission objectives/fun shit that can interact with the next terrain module.

Its probably a fantasy or better done as a heavily modded XCOM 2.
>>

Would-be Aleph player, here again. I've fallen in love with the look of the Ekdromoi. Can a list focused around them instead of the Myrmidons in Steel Phalanx be good? I was reading around and the only mentions I found of them were as a singleton hacker that jumps in behind enemy lines.
>>
>>51649905
Not really. If you ever fielded more than two things would get imbalanced. I guess in a low points game any list with an Ekdromos becomes an Ekdromos list since it'll have to be a major part of the game. Otherwise, I guess you could field two in a Hector list and get away with it reasonably comfortably.
>>
>>51649905
You should not focus a list around drop troops, they are additions, not your core.
>>
>>51650293
>>51650141
Shame, but I get your point. I feel like he'd combine really well with the Tacbots from the core ALEPH box, since they need a hacker to exist and it'd free up my Naga to be a Minelayer?
>>
>>51646013

>>
>>51650353
Yeah, the general advice with AD3 troopers is to walk them off the board edges, but Eks are actually PH13 so if you assisted trajectory them you stand a great chance of dropping the bastard where you like. That nanopulser can really do a number on linkteams
>>
>>51650293
That's good advice. Too many Ad troops can cripple your order pool.
Also, a single ad troop, used wisely, can do incredible things.

The legs are too "stick" looking.
The general image needs more yellow. Try using Color Blanace in photoshop over the whole image once its finished and try to save a few versions.
The pistol in the holster is too small.
The visor has that unnatural sticki top part wich looks weird and does not allow to portrait the top of the helmet. a few minutes on that part will make the whole head look better.

A few brushes of manga hair over the eyes will make her look a bit more feminine (if you are into that).

Lower the elbows a little, because it seems to me that you have short biceps and long forearms there.

But the thing that looks more unnatural to me are the legs, the curves of the tighs are too much, specially if the leg ends on those tiny feet.

You can throw all this text to the garbage, I'm just giving you my 2 cents here.

Why does infinity do damage as 1d20+mod > DMG rather than like, 1d20 roll under your armor, where your armor is modified by weapons damage (which would be lowered to be more 1-5 or so) and so forth?
AP and such would be a bit more awkward since halving your (say) armor stat of 16 would be a bit huge, but it seems it could be figured out.

It seems odd for the system to go basically entirely roll-under to suddenly roll-over for armor saves. What am I missing here? Why'd they choose this way?
>>
>>51652928
It makes sense if you view it less as an "armor roll" you want to pass and more of a "damage roll" you want to fail.

It's more than likely just 3D mockups for miniatures to be - in this day and age of 3D printers, I would not be surprised if this was the case. It's also a fairly common practice for movies that rely a lot on props.

To keep loaded dice from working, I suspect. Nullifying the swing in a d20 system with loaded dice is easy if all rolls need to go one direction. The Armor save is the spoiler.

I went to a seminar with Gutier and I remember him saying that CB had been approached by a lot of video game companies who just wanted to transpose the tabletop game into a video game, but that Gutier (and I think by implication the rest of CB) wanted video games to explore more of the Infinity universe- REM racing, Aristeia!, Dogball (whatever that Ariadna game's called) and such.

Dog bowl.
And I agree with him.
Or make the game a more actiony version of the tabletop, like a real time tactics game (think Commandos) or a shooter/stealth game.
>>

He could go home and look at the facebook guides then. Take advantage of some public internet or people's unlocked wifi (there's always someone) if he has no internet at home.

I wouldn't mind a larger-scale strategy. Entire squadrons of TAGs, more conventional armour like IFVs and tanks, air support, that sort of thing. It would be rad. With vidya you wouldn't need to make a whole new line of models for it.
