Pathfinder General /pfg/

First Love edition: What was the first major romance you've ever pursued in a campaign? What was the most memorable?

>HELPFUL TIP: If you want to ask for advice or information on a build or character, explain what sources (1st- and 3rd-party) are allowed and if you already have a theme or concept in mind.

The Choker of Body Alteration has so many uses for characters in mid/high level campaigns that it's just hard to list them all! Do you want to play as a sexy trap disguised as a girl for reasons unknown, or maybe a voluptuous young woman who is actually a young girl relishing the adult attention she is receiving, only to stumble and stutter when someone's advances turn sexual?

Ooh~, it's the best!
>>
>>51584484

Why would you say that, anon? This is all official Paizo material.
>>
>>51584504
>making everything lewd
And this is why /pfg/ fucking sucks. Not everything is about dicks, twats, and intercourse you sex-starved loser.

You know what this means? Paizo has shit the bed so hard that the setting is basically worthless now. We might as well just focus on things that get our jollies off.

>Benefit: As a full-round action, make a combat maneuver. This combat maneuver doesn't provoke an attack of opportunity. If you have a feat or ability that allows you to attempt the combat maneuver without provoking an attack of opportunity, you instead gain a +2 bonus against any opponent that has been hit by an attack of opportunity or moved since your last turn, and you can make the combat maneuver with a ranged attack.

>Special: This feat counts as having Dex 13, Int 13, Combat Expertise, and Improved Unarmed Strike for the purposes of meeting the prerequisites of the various improved combat maneuver feats, as well as feats that require those improved combat maneuver feats as prerequisites.

Yes they do. Archetypes that give you extra bonus feats alter that feature, which includes Scaled Fist. By Paizo rules you can't stack two archetypes that alter or replace the same feature.
A lot of DMs I've met waive it if there's no actual conflict, but that's RAW.

I want to play an overly ambitious Rostlander who was (r)ejected from the academy after cheating on his examinations (namely, using a Wayfinder and cracked ioun stone to give him mastery of the Aldori Dueling sword a decade before he was ready.)

I want to make him someone that is either ideal for the role of king, or the role of general.
>>
>>51585176
Except it doesn't? It does not say it alters, replaces, or modifies bonus feats. It says it adds optional powers you can take in place of a feat. That allows me to stack them.

>>51585203
Except adding things to a list isn't an alteration it's an addition? It would make absolutely no sense for them not to stack since it doesn't explicitly say 'This alters bonus feats' in the textline.

>>
>>51584334
Oi shitcunt. I tried. Where are you to hold up the other side of the conversation?

Only answer I got was >>51585028

So back to lewd posting I go.

I do like the Choker. It has a pretty good duration, can do genderbender and can do some nifty age alteration, but the weight and height changes aren't all that.

Still, for a non-lewd use, you can use the choker to have children going out and being adventurers.

Kid gets a choker (his parents have a pair of them for special nights), uses it to join the army, convince the other recruits that he is an adult cursed to look like a kid and that the choker keeps the curse at bay. The naive recruits believe it and help hide it from the sargent.
Hijinks ensue.
>>
>>51585250
Scaled Fist modifies bonus feats.

Invested Regent gives you more options for your bonus feats fro 2nd level and on, which WOULD stack with Scaled Fist, just like Qinggong and Primalist stack with other archetypes, but it ALSO replaces your 1st level bonus feat.

Both alter your bonus feats. RAW they do not stack.

Is this anon serious?
>>
>>51585397
Anon, WE KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SAYING. What WE'RE TELLING YOU is that paizo is retarded and by THEIR OWN WORDS they claim those will not stack by RAW. Devs have said "yea GMs can just allow it if they want", but they EXPLICITLY SAY, ANY ALTERATION AT ALL to the same feature will make two archetypes not stack. Anything. Ever. Of any kind.
>>
>>51585397
Okay, let's walk you through it.

An archetype alters or replaces a class feature this new class feature is an alternate Class Feature. A character with an alternate Class Feature no longer counts as having the original class feature. If it does not have the original class feature it can no longer qualify for an archetype that replaces or alters that same class feature.

Before you ask, yes, adding bonus feats is considered an alternate class feature, as per http://paizo.com/paizo/faq/v5748nruor1fn#v5748eaic9thg.

If you take Scaled Fist you have altered the Monk's Bonus Feats class feature. You no longer count as having bonus feats as a class feature, and cannot trade them out via Invested Regent.

This is RAW, Advanced Player's Guide, page 72, with the relevant FAQ.
>>
>>51585397
What >>51585464 said; it's why Vivisectionist technically can't stack with anything, because it ADDS A SINGLE OPTION to your Discoveries, and thus can't stack with ANYTHING that trades away or gives you even more Discovery options. It's why Myrmidon Fighter had to get a new clause before it went to print with its skills; it was intended to stack with Lore Warden, but Paizo being fucktarded said "nope that doesn't work, they both add skills" so Forrest had to write a new clause for it to stack.
>>
>>51585397
That is what a reasonable, competent, logical company would write.
Why in the nine layers of Hell would you think Paizo is reasonable, logical or competent?
They literally said that adding options counts as altering the class feature. It fucked PoW so now all their archetypes have to have a paragraph explaining that they stack. So RAW, you're fucked. A nice GM might allow it, but it's GM dependant.
>>
>>51585497

No burn, takes 10 min, and is at minimum 30 hardness with 360 hp per chunk, with 18 ten foot cubes worth of space. Attach it to whatever you want to put it in place and then take one measly burn to make it instant duration (aka, permanent but not Permanent cause dispel shenanigans).
Now here is the big thing, the last sentence. When you take that point of burn (because why the fuck wouldn't you? Want to risk your whole fortification going down because you missed one round of concentration?) you get to just keep using the ability, adding another 18 cubes worth of architecture every 10 min.
So for reference, Windsor castle is the biggest castle in England and a good example. It is 590,240 square feet, and just doing simple math for this instance, it would take 328 castings, or 55 hours to build. Assume time to sleep and you can build it in 3 and a half days for a driven builder, a week for a hobbyist.
This isn't even including the shit you can get up to with traps and built in features depending on your knowledges and so on. I'm already thinking of great edifices hidden in the mountains where the greatest telekinetics have created structures to rival the work of the gods, stronger than adamantine that will outlast the mountain that they're built upon.

What would you build?
And for the mega projects, the Great Wall could be done in less than a year by a single driven adventurer. How's that for leaving your mark on the world?

Not the same anon that's been arguing, just tired of lurking.

On a positive not, and, hopefully change of topic. What characters have you been up to building of late? I'm working on a Shadow Mystery/Tongues Oracle (they like swearing at people in Aklo). General idea is they use sensory altering save or suck/die spells in order to battlefield control, fights with a glaive (worships Shelyn and I also just love Bladed Brush exists). Since the Shadow mystery gives you perfect sight in any level of darkness magical or otherwise, and none of the light/sun/blind/dazzle spells on the Oracle/Cleric list are really detrimental to the user.

The only thing I want to find out is if there's an item that helps deal with blinding/dazzling effects of bright light/spells/sla's? Like a magic item or some shit.

Well, what are your opinions on the non-sexual idea for the choke? Kid Steve Rogers going to war and fooling his squad into thinking he's an adult. Does a three year tour of duty, comes back a veteran at twelve years old, and joins a group of adventurers. The wizard might notice that he's not cursed but using the choker to become an adult, but fuck it, it's not the weirdest thing he's seen. The paladin never catches on, but has a weirdly maternal/paternal feeling on the fighter and can't quite point out why.

Actually a similar story could be made with a street urchin that steals a choker to join the Guild as a thief instead of being abused and living in the gutter. Or an arcane prodigy that made a choker to gain the respect his arcane skill. Or a holy chosen one that uses the choker to pass as an adult and run away from the church.

BAM! Entire party of children trying to pass as grown-ups to each other without realizing the others are kids. Entire non-lewd campaign using the chokers. At most the wizard and the cleric think the other is flirting, try to act like they think adults act when they're being lewd, but never go further than hand holding. The rogue, raised in the streets, and the fighter, was in the army, know about lewd things and get super embarassed, so they always find excuses to go away when the other two are trying to be lewd, thus never realizing the mage and cleric are actually just holding hands.

So, if you have a way to get the fighter "disruptive" feat chain, do it. At the highest tier, any spell cast in his reach will provoke an AoO and boost the caster check to use the spell by the amount of damage and twice the spell lv (if the fighter hit for 30HP and the wiz is casting 6th lv spell, the concentration check is now 42 to Cast the spell). I also recommend getting combat Reflexes for more spell AoOs

Next, if he isn't divination you can surprise him. Try to think up a good surprise attack.

Finally, find ways to either boost your Own saves or not need to make one. This is going to be A Lot harder to do.

The main plan should be getting the person with the disruptive feat chain up to the wizard as soon as possible, makings him trying to escape or "savery or die" anyone a living nightmare.

Also, what lv is the target?

Alright fags I'm the guy from four threads ago that asked about making a huge google doc/pastebin of /pfg/-created NPCs for people to use in their campaigns but I got distracted and have been fucking around with the formatting.

So far I've gotten these guidelines:
>20 point buy(?)
>Standard gold per level for equipment
>No restrictions on class or level, just make whatever you want
>Try to make ambiguous backgrounds so they can easily be drag-and-dropped into any campaign, no setting specific backgrounds or goofy shit like specific noble families.

Not really sure how gestalt characters are going to work. I guess they'll be accepted but then placed in their own category.

Either way I've discovered I'm hopelessly incompetent at using google docs. The option is to either allow for two pages on the document per character, one for stats and the other for background/images. An alternative is to use pastebin and just have people link Mythweaver sheets, which may be easier but than runs the risk of having bad links everywhere if people delete characters.

Help me out here.
>>
>>51585978
Excellent! Love Bloodborne, simple enough setting to put into place but the real trick punt totally intended is the weapons and getting down the innate functions of a Hunter. Realistically they are a combination of Fighter, Alchemist, and a pinch of Gunslinger. Fast, two weapon fighters with a myriad of tools at their disposal and flexible weapons that cover damage types, reach, elemental damages, and so on.

I had the oppourtunity to play a Gestalt game where I went Fighter/Alchemist, and went for a Kirkhammer build. Was a lot of fun, party appreciated the utility the Alchemist side brought and how prepared my weapon pool allowed me to be for any enemy.

Hey WotRaunchy GM, if you're in the thread, what do you look for in an application?

Are you more interested in how lewd an app can be, or how fleshed out the character concept is? Also, what's the optimization sweet spot--not too over-the-top, or as near to the ceiling as it can be?

>>51586101
I'm in a different game with the GM, and I can at least tell you what optimization levels they look for.

Basically, try and keep it in line with the part - the characters should be reasonably optimized, but once you get into near undefeatable gimmicks the GM will be forced to arms race you and that's fun for nobody - I played a tentaclebeast superbrappler for a while, and the GM still gets flashbacks to it.

Basically, go for "optimized, but not superpowered"

So there's a character in my campaign that has a cursed set of dice. If he does not roll them every 8 hours, he becomes exhausted. When he does roll them, he gets a buff for each pair he gets. The party hasn't encountered him yet, but I'd like to make sure the dice actually seem useful in case a player decides they want to roll them.

1 - +1 Dodge bonus to AC (increase to +2 if you have 2 pairs, +3 if you have 3 pairs) for the next minute.
2 - +1 to attack rolls (increase to +2 if you have 2 pairs, +3 if you have 3 pairs) for the next minute.
3 - +1 to damage rolls (increase to +2 if you have 2 pairs, +3 if you have 3 pairs) for the next minute.

Do they have limits on use? Or a punishment for not getting any pairs, say? If not, I'd say that's the least cursed cursed item I've seen.
>>
>>51586101
Don't have the set goal of soloing everything in sight. That's my stance on optimization.

How lewd an app can be is not a concern, but if a player says "I'm not interested in +18 material at all / I don't want to see it" then they're less likely to be picked. A character that is just fetish bait and has no character or idea behind it aside from getting ass isn't going to get far here.

How fleshed out a character is depends, you're level 1 so I don't want some hyper "experienced" general strolling in already ordering the crusades from day one. Give me something to work with, give yourself something to build on, have a character that has room for growth.

>>51586202
Grab enemy from 30ft away, not in range? Oh don't worry they can nyoom right up and snatch them. Pull onto spiked armor then get ready for Throat Slicer next round. Oh also, Warder so there's a big "fuck you" around them. More so than the usual Warder "fuck you" zone, I still grumble about it any time "throat slicer", "fiendish marauder" warder, or "pin" is brought up. Buuut that ain't to say I'm angry about it, I learned better.
>>
>>51586296
Punishment for not getting any pairs would be a good idea.

I figured I'd start with it being lenient and then slowly bring it down to being more punishing but worth using.

Maybe if you don't get any pairs you become fatigued until you get a pair?
>>
>>51586294

A Compulsion effect to spend a Move action every round rolling until you get at least 3->2->1 pairs, maybe? I just see this being turned into the most powerful magic item they've gotten without some form of drawback.

Perhaps a penalty for getting the same pair in different roles, probably reversing the effects. So, like:
>Roll 1:
6 1's
>Roll 2:
2 1's, 2 6's, etc

So you'd get +3 AC the first round, but since you hoped on Lady Luck and got greedy, now you take -3 AC for the next minute. But you did get your pair of 6's, which functions as normal. See what I mean? It's thematic for magic gambling dice and means you shouldn't just spam it constantly.

Also, I would double the effects of #3- +1 Attack is equivalent to +2 Damage, roughly- see Weapon Focus/Specialization.

So I know this isn't a 3.5 thread, but I couldn't find anywhere that seemed more fitting. Hey I'm coming from Fantasy Craft because I joined a new group. I LOVE playing a Sage in Fantasy Craft and I've been looking through the Pathfinder books to find something similar. The closest things seem to be bard and investigator but there are key things that don't really fit. For people that don't know these are the key traits of the Sage.

>Int Wisdom are primary stats
>Don't cast any magic/aren't magic characters
>6 + int x 4 skills a level and at level 1 they select 4 extra skills to become class skills and they immediately gain 2 ranks in all of them.
>They basically have bardic inspiration from 5e
>They can increase the error range of a party members skill check to drastically reduce the time requirement
>A certain amount of times each encounter(scene) they can let party members use the highest skill bonus in the group for checks
>every 4 levels they can rip class abilities from other classes
>They can give dramatic speeches to recover 1/2 of each party members total vitality
>They can choose temporary chance feats
>They can create their own luck (once per session the GM does something like make a contact show up at exactly the right time, makes things fall into place, etc they basically mold fate)
>They increase the entire parties starting action dice (these are used for critical hits and stuff, its a "luck" thing).

Pretty much the basis of the class is a Jack of All Trades that is a party leader and provides plot armor for his party.

There is no class that fits all requirements.

Bard is probably the closest, for the "party buffing and dice manipulation" aspect.

Investigator is closest for the Int and Skills.

Gearing up to play in a semi-erotic online game and the GM agreed to let me play a Gelatinous Cube (from the DSP April fool's book last year) with the Human Form feat for free. He said he's more or less down with it, but wants to make a couple of modifications, mainly involving reducing the power of its paralysis ability.

I'm looking for some idea on what a decent class to go for might be. The race has 4 levels, but after that I can go into anything. My first thought was Kineticist to take advantage of it's +16 to Constitution. But an Aegis seems like it could also be pretty good since it could grant faster movement speed boost, the ability to fly, plus create armor which otherwise could be fairly difficult to get access to.

As an ooze the character will be blind and only has blindsight 60 feet, which is going to be a pain in the ass.

Any other ideas?

Crimson Countess actually still works, since engulfing enemies still works when you're in the big blood pool form. The Crimson Cube is something a friend of mine loves to talk about.

Warder could also be nice, as large size and absolutely staggering constitution means you're very hard to put down, so you can typically tank all day long.

My own cube, though, was an alchemist, which was very thematic for the character. I basically had to abandon bombs because of the dex penalty, but that's fine when vivisectionist is available. If your cube came to sapience through alchemical means, they might try to carry that on. Psychic and wizard would work for the same reasons, though obviously as full casters taking cube levels would set them back.

Barbarian is excellent, as it depends heavily on both strength and con

Oh yeah, I remember her. When my group ran that module as part of a longer campaign, she ended up shacking up with and following one of the other players around for awhile. The player ended up becoming a noble and he basically let her handle most of the day to day tasks of taking care of his domain and she pretty much sucked at it. It was rather amusing.
>>
>>51587696
How did you build your alchemist cube? That sounds like it could be interesting.
>>
>>51587773
Vivisectionist was the big thing; decent intelligence, mutagen, infusion so you can toss around your extracts to your teammates, and a relatively high strength makes cubes combat monsters. those you can't grapple you can pound into the dirt with natural attacks thanks to Feral Mutagen.

It was an exceedingly typical build, just with a weird race.

Hey, if you're still hanging around, I got a question.

The Moonlight trick from the Cosmic Eye Watcher badge says
>When in its tricked form, a weapon with the moonlight trick can make melee attacks against any creature within 30 feet, even if that creature isn’t within its reach. This attack is still treated as a melee attack, and after using this trick the weapon reverts to its untricked form.

Does this mean that I can make all my attacks in a full-attack action against enemies up to 30 ft. away, or just a single attack that switches the weapon back to the untricked form?

I personally don't like the dependency of Caster's Champion basically needing an arcane caster in the team, as well as hanging near them a lot.

Off the top of my head I thought up giving Arcane Strike while using your Hunter level as caster level for the purpose of the damage bonus, but that's sorta better in comparison to Caster's Champion in a way.

AS
>swift action
>give weapon +1 damage bonus for 1 round
>damage bonus increases every 5 caster levels

CC
>3/day swift action
>give weapon +1 damage bonus for 1 round
>damage bonus increases every 4 BAB you have
>depends on being within 30ft of an arcane spellcaster ally, let alone having an arcane spellcaster ally

On a side note, since the Moonlight trick's attack is a single attack, it'd be an attack action and therefore usable with Vital Strike, yes?

I had Arcane Strike as a possibility at one point, and I had come up with some reason not to use it or to use Caster's Champion instead (which mostly had to do with fluff reasons of the Choir kind of leeching off of other entities), but I can't remember it off the top of my head. I still don't like Arcane Strike just because the hunter isn't really hurting for damage and has plenty to do with their swift actions already. I'll add it to the list of things I need to revisit.

>>51588320
Yes, but it should be noted that the moonlight trick does not need to be used with a particular action. Rather, it can be applied once to an attack before the weapon reverts to its untricked form. So it could be used on one attack in a full-attack action, or an attack an of opportunity, or a Vital Strike.
>>
>>51588371
Noted. I'll stick with Caster's Champion as is then, since I really want to do shit with the Moonlight attack.

It'd probably be a good idea to note in the trick's description that you can apply it to any single attack for whatever sort of attack actions.

Another side note, since I'm actually making a hunter atm for a playtest my group's doing this weekend, one of the others wants to know whether the Powder Keg Hunter's Badge's Furnace trick can hurt the hunter him/herself if they're adjacent to the enemy they're attacking with the Furnace trick.

It certainly can, making the reach trick a wise investment.

All of the drawabacks that come with the weapon tricks are intentional, as very early on I wanted to make sure that people would have reason to use both the untricked form and tricked form of a weapon, rather than throwing a bunch of benefits on a weapon and running around with it tricked all the time.
>>
>>51588550
That makes perfect sense, otherwise the Furnace trick would just almost be a free Flaming enchantment with a 5-foot radius.

We still can't seem to come to an agreement on how exactly the Hunter's Grace x/day ability works in regards to timing its use.
My idea (because we've come to the agreement that being able to completely negate an attack, especially a crit, x times per day is a little ridiculous) is that when targeted by a melee or ranged attack, you'd have to declare the dodge before the declared attack's result is revealed.

Now, it's completely fine if you disagree, it's just that our group seem intent on using it this way.
>>
>>51588628
It's an immediate action, so the action triggers whenever you take it. If you are uncomfortable with outright dodging attacks, instead grant the hunter a +4 bonus to AC against the triggering attack along with the movement.

It's also on my lit to revisit. The reason I haven't used the above is because that would make it unusable against ssome AoE attacks which is something I think is important to the ability.

How do you mechanically convey losing a limb. I plan on playing a symbiotic slayer who is missing one arm from mid bicep down.

Mostly it means I can't wield two handed weapons, do anything that requires two handed, and don't count as having a hand free for somatic components when holding something in the other hand. Is there a full list of the mechanical implications of missing an arm.

The plan is when I activate my symbiote it replaces the missing arm while activated.

Also the effects of missing one eye. He is missing the eye on the same side he is missing the arm.

>>
>>51588743
>Do you really need someone to explain what the implications of having only one arm are?
There a lot of things.

Like how much does it effect my over head lift carrying capacity?

How big of a penalty should it give to climb/swim/etc.

I can come up with most of the list but for stuff like "how large of a penalty" I'd prefer to look at actual rules.
>>
>>51588669
Alright. I'll probably talk to the others some more when they're awake.

That aside and back onto the Moonlight trick, how exactly would making the Moonlight Strike (should probably call it that) as an attack of opportunity work? Do you just threaten all squares up to 30 ft away from you?
It is rather nice to know that since it switches back after using that attack, it can't be abused with something like Combat Reflexes, by the way.

Meanwhile, I did retype the description myself.
>The hunter is able to imbue weapons with the power of moonlight. Blue moonlight dances around the weapon, and it channels the abyssal cosmos to hurl a shadowy light wave. When in its tricked form, a weapon with the moonlight trick can make attacks against any creature within 30 feet, even if that creature isn’t within its reach. In other words, this attack can be used as a standard attack action, as one of the attacks made as part of a full-attack action, or an attack of opportunity. This attack is still treated as a melee attack, and after using this trick the weapon reverts to its untricked form.

Sorry if I'm excessively belting out a shit-ton of questions and whatnot.
>>
>>51588800
Not that anon, but only if your Threatened Area is that far, such as by Combat Patrol.
>>
>>51588669
I think the most interesting way to mechanically do this is an immediate action to move away- out of AoE or out of the reach of the attack. Prevent 5ft steps the next round, and your movement is reduced by the amount you already moved. Maybe include an Acrobatics check to negate the attack, since groups seem to be okay with that sort of thing.

>I think the most interesting way to mechanically do this is an immediate action to move away- out of AoE or out of the reach of the attack.

This is what the ability does already, and is limited by only having a number of uses per day. I'm not sure about reduced movement as a penalty, as most people seem to have a problem with the act of avoiding attacks in and of itself, and a movement penalty doesn't really address that. I also don't like an acrobatics check at face value because I prefer to avoid unnecessary rolling.

I know as far as my group (planning the playtest, GM assures us we will all die by the end) goes, we don't want it to -not- nullify the attack and just give a bonus to AC because its x/day and you get more uses at a very slow rate.

Going off of what I said before, I personally like the idea that since you're thinking fast and see the attack coming before they make the attack, you can dodge the attack after it's declared but before it's rolled, acting on quick thinking.

That aside, the only real issue I have with it is being able to negate a confirmed crit, especially even if it's a nat20.

Using the ability before the results of the attack are revealed are how our group (or at least I and the GM) have agreed to use it, so that's cool.

20 STR, 13 DEX, 15 CON, 18 INT, 11 WIS, 9 CHA

Rolled stats 4d6d1, human, STR is 18 w/o the Belt of Giant's Strength

7th level Bloodborne Hunter, no archetype
Cosmic Eye Watcher badge, Guidance and Eye Runes
Feats are Improved Initiative, Power Attack, Furious Focus, Caster's Champion via CEW, Dodge, and Vital Strike.

Initiative +7 (1 DEX, 2 trait, 4 feat)

Max Ranks in these skills
Acrobatics +11, Knowledge (Arcana, Dungeoneering, Local, Nature) +14, Perception +14 (+1 trait and Eye rune), Stealth +11

Uses a +1 shocking longsword with the Increased Damage and Moonlight tricks, which is why I'm aiming for the PowAtk/VitStrike stuff.

I wanted to see how I could roll with a simple-enough hunter that just used a melee weapon. Maybe just a tad bit of being pretty mobile on the field, seeing as I got myself an expeditious retreat potion, running around to flank things and hit hard while I do so.

One of the other players in the party is trying out the Charred Hunter, but I can't see his sheet so I'll have to ask him if you want to see how he's doing it when I can get a hold of him. As for the other three, one's making the Boom Hammer and the other the Kirkhammer.

Yep, all hunters and no multiclassing. No word on anyone using archetypes aside from one guy using Church Hunter, and no word on who's using guns.

Originally I had planned rolling with TWF via Crow Hunter Badge, but changed my mind to Vital Strike longsword/greatsword instead.

Power attacking with TWF isn't exactly the best idea, though.
On average, me power attacking on a full-attack action averages about the same damage either with using an greatsword whose trick form is longsword/shortsword, provided they all hit. It's 2 greatsword hits versus 2longsword/2shortsword hits.

I think doing TWF stuff is more attractive w/ Weapon Finesse and dex-to-damage so that you'd at least be able to pump dex more, as it also would give you more Dex to AC. I really like Unchained Rogue, go figure

Honestly, from what I've read there are more-or-less varying styles of combat players can go with while using the class. The Vileblood archetype makes using firearms more interesting, not to mention the Charred Hunter.

I honestly don't know how to feel about the Church Hunter, the diminished spellcasting hurts, not to mention the insight cap of 3+INT (which I'm assuming the Insight system was based partly on Kineticist's Burn feature).

>Yep, all hunters and no multiclassing. No word on anyone using archetypes aside from one guy using Church Hunter, and no word on who's using guns.
Well, hopefully the Charred Hunter will be using a gun of some kind, as that's their whole bit. It's also worth mentioning that he can still use trick weapons even though he loses the class feature, he just treats them as exotic and has to spend a full-round transforming them (meaning that you guys could build them one if he wanted).

>I think doing TWF stuff is more attractive w/ Weapon Finesse and dex-to-damage so that you'd at least be able to pump dex more, as it also would give you more Dex to AC. I really like Unchained Rogue, go figure
Two-Weapon Fighting is viable with just STR/INT via the crow hunter badge which I think helps make up for potential accuracy/damage issues.

>I honestly don't know how to feel about the Church Hunter, the diminished spellcasting hurts, not to mention the insight cap of 3+INT (which I'm assuming the Insight system was based partly on Kineticist's Burn feature).
Yeah, it's kind of an inverted burn system. Diminished spellcasting is really important for balance of this archetype, because its a d10, Full BAB, 6th level spellcaster. I flip-flopped for a long time over it, experimenting with 4th level casting or late access casting and I ended up settling with this.

Right, I should've mentioned he's setting up for the Church Cannon.

It's probably just me and bad luck, but any time I try doing something that gives me as much as a -4 penalty (power attack and TWF combined), I just fuck myself over and can't hit for shit.

Me and the GM did some tested combat by pitting me against a beast patient or two. I landed a lot more hits with the greatsword in its normal form than with the split form, but that's really just RNG when you look at it. It's probably really just me at fault for trying to use PowAtk with TWF, though, and I realized later that instead of actually using TWF, I could have just been using Create Opening and making full-attacks with just the split longsword, using the split shortsword to attack if I missed. Then again, Create Opening only has 1/day use at our level.

Put my sloppy luck together with the enticing fun of Longsword-to-Greatsword with PowAtk and Vital Strike, I decided to switch things over. It's been a while since I played something that didn't make my group call me a dexfag, anyways.

As for the Church Hunter, I also figured as much given it's a full-martial, basically. I myself don't know whether it would really need changing or not. The only other person who has read it is the GM for our group, and putting it into comparison with Paladin or Ranger, he wasn't keen on requiring taking insight just to prepare spells, then casting them at minimum level unless you took more insight. Even Paladin or Ranger's spellcasting doesn't suck that bad, as I would word it.

All that rambling aside, I still really do love everything you've got for making the class. It's probably no surprise that half the group has played SoulsBorne games and that we all love them. Keep it up!

I'll talk more when I'm not running low on sleep.

Anybody else looking forward to starting this summer?

Do you think the two will play nice together?
>>

>Starjammer
Is out in 7ch. Were you thinking of Starfinder?
>>
>>51589713
I mentioned both. My phone changed Starfinder to 'starting'.

7ch

Requests thread or the VH?

Are there still VH threads? Been a while since I went to 7ch

This sounds neat. It also sounds like the claims of Pathfinder compatibility are not true.
>>
>>51589706
I really am looking forward to Starfinder. I'm hoping Paizo shows some of the recent backbone they've had, introducing interesting new options in Path of the Righteous and, earlier, in Weapon Master's Handbook.

Plus, without fucking James Jacobs at the creative helm, maybe we'll get a setting with less stupid and adventure paths with less blatant waifubait.

Well, the Ranger and Paladin do have to deal with their own -3 CL.

Insight is also based on influence from the medium, and moonlight trance is supposed to give later level church hunters something to do with stockpiled insight.

Basically, the idea is that the Church Hunter will have a handful of spells to help give them utility, but they're mostly buffs and defenses, so they can't go around blasting or creating cloud cities or whatever. Their insight also gives them the option to have a few clutch spells when they really need them.

You'll also have to consider how you'll want to reconcile the fact that Bloodborne is a game without overt magic, while Pathfinder is a game where magic is very much at the forefront. In that vein the Church Hunter is not meant to be a strong caster.

From what they said, it seems to me that compatbility will be similar to DnD 3.5 being compatible with Pathfinder - it nominally is, but there's so much shit between them that a few things will break down, and it becomes more work than it's worth to convert a lot of them, yet at the same time it's actually doable in the first place.

Is using Planar ally to summon an aasimar to sleep with me considered an abuse of divine power?
>>

You still need to negotiate for the cost of service and even then it may be turned down.

Thanks Buddy. Checking it out now.

The Thug rogue + Enforcer feat combo is pretty old, and as long as you invest decently in intimidate, you can pretty much no-save frighten any enemy you hit for one round by doing 3 damage or more.

Has anyone actually tried this out? How rude would it be to the GM to build and use one?

When is two weapon fighting okay?

When are double weapons okay?
>>
>>51590065
When something supports it like PoW deadly agility/UC rogue finesse or when you have riding effects like sneak attack. Also I guess when you have high PB to spread points around or if you're a slayer which sort of lets you do it but you know.... you're a slayer.
>>
>>51590065
When your average DPR (with to-hit chance factored in) is comparable to the DPR of a two handed weapon, given the same number of feats expended and same amount of gold spent - and when you didn't lose out on valuable class features to do it either.

(Basically never)
>>
>>51590234
And even in that scenario, it's still worse because DR. So throw in a free clustered shot equivalent into the requirements too.
>>
>>51590065
>When is two weapon fighting okay?
Two weapon fighting is OK when strength is not a primary attribute of your build and you have alternate sources of damage from multiple attacks; for example, bonus damage from a stance or sneak attack can be multiplied by multiple attacks. This mitigates the bonus damage from strength lost from not wielding a weapon with both hands.

There's no real reason to use a double weapon, honestly, unless you have a class feature that allows you to switch bonus damage for str or something, and you'd still probably be better focusing on one weapon type.
>>
>>51590256

Druid. Quarterstaff. Low level. Shillelagh.

The reason I haven't applied to Sultana is because any character I would make would just be entirely loyal to the Sultana immediately.
>>
>>51590319
Or just weild it two handed and enjoy the benefits without the penalties of a suboptimal fighting style.

Do it anyway!
>>
>>51590065
When you have deadly agility, and a twf scattered shot equivalent for free, half-price on one-handed weapon enchantments except for the ones that add elemental damage dice, free twf feats, and 1d6 sneak attack - without sacrificing BAB.

Then your twf is about as good as thf.

You'll need to continue getting sneak attack to keep up with power attack.
>>
>>51590298
>>51590354
It's still a double weapon regardless of whether you use it with twf penalties.
>>
>>51590319
A +1 enhancement bonus isnt exactly going to help a druid who is taking -4/-8 to hit. Sure, he can take TWF as his first feat, but its quite ridiculous since if he wanted to hit a lot then he could just hold out till wildshape.
>>
>>51590401
See
>>51590394
A quarterstaff is still a double weapon even if you use it thf with powerattack.
>>
>>51590401
I keep forgetting how bad two weapon fighting is
>>
>>51590455
It's not bad unless you have the shit to back it up to heck and back. Goblin UC Rogue can do it perfectly fine with all that Dex and +1 to attack from Small sized.
>>
>>51590455
It's terrible.

It would take heavily discounted price enchantments, 5 free feats, and a free damage boost, before it's as good as just picking up a greatsword and putting no feats into it.
>>
>>51590455
A level 1 can take TWF and weapon focus and even then he will likely have trouble hitting shit since he needs to pony up with the dex prereq for twf as well as need a decent str since the powers that be decided that the quarterstaff doesnt work with finesse.
>>
>>51590490
And that's only with finesse weapons, too.
>>
>>51590503
>You can use a double weapon to fight as if fighting with two weapons, but if you do, you incur all the normal attack penalties associated with fighting with two weapons, just as if you were using a one-handed weapon and a light weapon.

I guess at least one of the attacks will count....
>>
>>51590524
Yeah. Twf is terrible. The math just doesn't work out.
>>
Does Broken Blade Stance's extra attack work with any weapon or just discipline weapons?
>>
>>51590660
Just discipline weapons unless you go for Weapon Adaptation, I believe. Broken Blade has that stipulation about their weapons at the top that would need another read through for me to be 100%
>>
>>51590660
Only discipline weapons.
BUT you can make every weapon a discipline weapon with the Weapon Group Adaptation feat.

Though it's public knowledge that Broken Blade needs nerfing, so willingly using the stronger stuff from it is being a bit of a dick to the GM.
>>
>>51590710
What makes it so broken anyway?
I really like the idea of brutal unarmed combat but if it sours my chances of being accepted into a game I'd probably start avoiding it.
>>
>>51588976
Sounds low key, but interesting
>>
>>51584638

Welp, I accepted going in that this was always going to feel like a monumental waste of my time if I didn't get in and sure enough, that's exactly what happened.

I shouldn't be salty about it, but it's disheartening to know your best efforts aren't even good enough to get into the top 10 out of 25 applications. Insert your own kys and/or forever alone memes here.
>>
>>51590736
People using Weapon Group Adaption to apply shit like great swords to Broken Blade and getting a shitton of dice at early levels.
BB is designed to give early buffs to unarmed warriors because you would be starting with a 1d3/4 damage die and 1xstr bonus. People powergame it by apply it to weapons that are 2d6 with 1.5xstr bonus, then complain it's broken.
>>
>>51590780
So as long as I play an unarmed combatant or a natural attacker then I'd be fine?
>>
>>51590736
The damage potential of some of its boosts and strikes are just way too high, mainly.
It gets even crazier with the Weapon Group Adaptation trick.

If you know what you're doing you can avoid picking the super strong options, though a nice alternative is the Fool's Errand discipline which DSP is going to publish eventually:

It's not that you weren't good enough. It's that you didn't cater to the GM's fetishes enough.

That's not necessarily a bad thing.
>>

>>

Seconded

Why?

I thought Slayer was better than core rogue, fighter, swashbuckler, and cavalier, and just worse than pretty much everything else.

Slayer isn't even bad, for a martial.

You should learn something from this, and know to get into games the solution is simple, just git gud.

The above advice is entirely meant earnestly, and in a dark souls fashion.
First, don't be afraid to try and fail, if you want to have a chance of succeeding. Second, learn from your mistakes and adapt. What went wrong in what you did, and look at what was successful and consider what was good about them.

Lastly, if you're stuck, go ahead and ask for help. I'm not Kon Kon, but which was your character? We at /pfg/ could probably give you some breakdowns on what could have been done better.
>>
>>51590930
I'd take a Slayer over a Ranger most days. If they had a good archetype, maybe over Barbarian since they can do the only decent things Rogues can do without stuck being Rogues.
>>
>>51585956
That would be Miss Fortune or Evelyn or maybe Elise. Ahri was retconned to be less slutty.
