Magnus is the problem child, although, even him I kinda feel might be over hyped. His godly witchfires don't work while engaged and he seems to be relying on very few strict powers. Everyone is freaking out on invisibility, but you can only attempt 1 power per caster so either the opponent is saving all their dice for that, or TS tries to over power that which almost guarantees a peril, which suuucks badly.

Then Badab War gets released Oct 2010, which looks at how Lugft Huron became Huron Blackheart the new poster boy for chaos. Because the big plot was that Huron was building his numbers beyond 1k i.e. Legion building, they started to release redone models of stuff and reimagined power armour. Originally it was just mk2-6 power armour then they started releasing the contemptor and other cool stuff. This was probably testing the waters for how serious people were about the heresy and they were. You see hundreds of people buying the armour sets, filling off the aquillas and building big armies, but as we lacked official rules we just picked 40k codexes, like pre heresy WE were blood angels sans Baal predator. If you want to see what it was like look up BlackTemplarsCrusade01 and KeeperoftheFortress on YT as they started big leagues even writing rule sets themselves for the campaigns. Some had fully resin armies whilst others were just CSM with the spikes filled off.
Then a few years later forgeworld actually releases the HH books and add superheavies, which is the studios dedicated focus, and other stuff from RT.
GW screwed up some of their plans by releasing Skittari in 40k first but we saw the models painted in 30k colours yesterday.
TL;DR a year or two before the HH game we had basic models but they had aquillas but no rules for 30k unless your homebrew
