Magnus is OP as all hell, a 36" bubble of 2d6 SD hits coming from a guy who can often be literally impossible to hit is insane.

Most Primarchs are actually quite balanced, really, but if this power creep goes on Jaghatai Khan will be able to deploy his entire army wherever and then charge T1, and always gets 1st Turn or some bullshit.

Yep. Haven't run the exact maths yet since Horus is fiddly to math out, maybe I'll do them in a bit, but the outcome seems pretty clear on the preliminaries. Horus scores 0.75 unsaved wounds R1, half that round 2 and Disabling Strike might not make up for it. It's close, I think.

Will do more concrete maths once I've had lunch. Personally I think the win goes to whatever Magos made that armour for him.

He only has 6 attacks, and has to hit models in base contact, so he'll kill the levies that were not doing damage anyway. They should be able to take him down, but it'll take forever. That's probably going to be my answer, since I want to ally some Cult Horde/TF levies to my DarkMech anyway just to have a nice bulky front line and run off boring deathstars.

Magnus is just stupid and is probably the most powerful model in the game, possibly barring the Psi-Titan.

Not sure about the Refractor Field on the Delegatus. 4++ for 10 points seems nice, but a pair of meltabombs for the Centurions might be better. I've got two sets of Calth miniatures to build from.

Holy hell, that's a lot of Dakka. I can always just swap the Librarian to Corvidae and have him cast the Divinations on them. He can just jump from the Sekhmet to the Veterans once they disembark.

Amongst all the drama, would just like to say I'm pretty impressed with the SoS rules. They do what they're meant to obviously (make psykers cry) but they're also pretty well balanced generally, IMO. The change with the greatblade from AP2 to AP3 but getting AP2 of 5s & 6s to hit is pretty good design. They won't carve through marines (they're still WS4 and hitting at S4) but they'll hold their own. They've got some funky gear too, but nothing too batshit.

The big weakness is they're a bit short on anti-tank, being basically reliant on their dedicated transport for that, so will be a bit weak if taken on their own. But, they're not really meant to be taken on their own, and their units' generally lower points costs means they're not too hard to fit into an allied detachment or something.

That maybe so, but stripped of the Talon Horus would still be the excellent support HQ he is now and still have respectable combat ability with his powerfist mace, even if he's just Artificer/Refractor field and a Power Axe or fist.

Strip Russ of his wargear and he's nothing, really. He doesn't buff his army much, he relys pretty much entirely on his armour in a duel to stay alive long enough to slowly chip down his enemy, even with his actual weapons.

And if you just want him for having a mindset willing to kill his brothers without question, how about an orbital lance strike or just a huge horde of gene-modded lobotomised clones? It's not like the Space Wolves bring pretty much anything to the table the World Eaters or even a sufficiently large number of conventional soldiers don't.

I just realized, D doesn't affect the ap of an attack. Magnus can turboboost powers, but all he gets are d3 wounds and improved haywire effect on them.

Still really good, but not ridiculously overpowered.

Post-geneseed implantation, gender differences are also going to be minimal since the bulk of the marine's psyche and physiology comes from indoctrination, hypno-therapy and the geneseed, not the baseline human genome or personality they had prior to implantation.

You'd double your recruitment pool easily and any physiological differences would be minimal to non-existent.

Spehs muhreens being no-girls discounts over half the human race as recruits. If you could create female compatible geneseed, you'd have a huge advantage in the number of potential candidates and thus faster recruitment/replenishment of losses. Makes sense Fabius would be interested in that.

Starting with only male marines almost certainly would have made it more challenging for Honsou and Fabius to do the shenanigans they did. Depends on what you want to use them for.
Tartaros are a good choice for clearing out tactical squads and the like, and with the raptora buff are better than most other legions cataphractii (especially since asphyx rounds are cheaper than volkites and just as good, if not better). Cataphractii are now just rude as objective holders/beatsticks, and that's before getting into the Sekhmet.
