I've got this big chunk of wood. It's been boiled, dried, sanitized, etc so I know there's nothing living in it. I figured it might make some cool Sylvanethy terrain if I seal it up and add foliage stuff to it.

Does anyone know if there is an easy way to seal it so it doesn't rot and maybe stop little bits from breaking off it?

You know literally all their battalion make them deepstrike ? Also a vexillor can TP any deathstar anywhere on the board.

So yeah it's "just" bataillons

I find soul grinder a lot better than Skull Cannons. One shot per turn means they're very unreliable. They can be helped a lot by the Bloodsecrator, though so can the soul grinder.

If you're not too big into theme/fluff, warp lightning cannons are also great.

Which flavor you want?
-Greenskinz? Get SC! Wyvern-boss and lotsa boys.
-Bonespliterz? Buy tons of savage boyz, arming the majority of them with bows, have at least 1-2 box of everything else.
-Ironjawz? Buy 2 start collecting boxes and 1 box of megaboss and brutes. If you want to, get rid of the Gore-gruntas but, contrary to popular belief, they are decent for a starter player.

do I need a lot of heroes to boost my boyz?

I'm at best ambivalent about Girlyman's new mini, but Cypher is gorgeous and I've been deliberating how to AoS-ify him. I figure his armor has very little visible powered elements past the backpack, so if I remove that and the two pistols I'd be on the right way. Make his plasma hand instead hold a warhammer/broadsword/maul slung over his shoulders and replace the boltpistol with a blunderbuss.
>>
I disagree with the best model voting results. Roidrage Traumaturge should've been number one. Newfags love extremely busy and outlandish designs, there's no appreciation left for something brilliantly simple like the Ogroid. He seems like a lost classic model done with modern standards of quality. And it's a painter's dream with his tattoos.
>>
>>51557401
It's always going to be a big centerpiece model. People generally prefer bigger things than little ones, even if the little ones are more impressive. Look to nearly any publicly voted painting competition.

What is up with people mocking AoS's rules?

Why do they think we need a textbook full of rules?
Also, what's with the 3+ to win meme?

If you look at 40k, most rolls are in the 3+ 4+ range anyway.

>What is up with people mocking AoS's rules?

I know someone who knows a GW manager who just got back from the Texas GW manager convention and he said the rules for 40K aren't getting cut down. But they are adding alternative ways to play the game in the new edition.

Take with loads of salt

>>
>>51559209
Here's the deal: 40k rules are bad, really bad, in fact, absolutely atrocious. It's like the old FB rules - an utter clusterfuck. It's the draw of the cool lore alone that still keeps people in the system. By mocking AoS, they try to confirm to themselves that 40k rules aren't the absolute worst there are.

Please Rate my 1000 Point List:

Heroes:
> Orruk Warboss with 'Big and Brutish', 'Meteoric Hammerblade'

BattleLine:
> 20 Orruks with hand weapon and shield, boss, drummer, standard bearer
> 40 Moonclan Grots with spear and shield, netters, boss, musician, bad moon icon

Behemoths:
> Aleguzzler Gargant

Warmachines:
> Doomdiver Catapult
> Doomdiver Catapult

This list is based on the models I already own. Is it viable? Or should I get working on a box of cavalry?

>>
>>51565293
Orruks are superior to ANYTHING. And are competitive, at last!

Plus a slew things that are appearing as the setting is getting fleshed out. God-beasts' for example. The flesh-eater courts' lore is cool.
>>
>>51565293
It's just a background for why you move models around a table.
I like it because it's way more original than the old world and it allows for all sorts of crazy things to happen and the story actually progresses unlike WFB which was always 2 minutes to midnight until Chaos finally won. I also like it because the forces of order are on the offense instead of constantly holding back evil.

Speed shouldn't be an issue thanks to Rampaging Destroyers, but you'll probably want a second hero to spread coverage of that.
Hand weapons on anything but 10 orruks is a waste. Take spears instead.
Also, not really convinced by your choice of relic and trait.
>>
>>51564461
In my experience most of the Sylvaneth units are basically unkillable unless by huge amount of point disparity, mortal wound spam or things that have very high rend. Treelords are the most unkillable, but even dryads can take a lot of punishment before going down.
>>
>>51565293
Forces of Order on the offence for once, a sense of greatness rising from the ashes of the fallen, whose struggles are blurred with time but not forgotten
>>
>>51565293
More ease of making "your guys". You can make up whole frigging kingdoms and countries (just like you can make up planets etc in 40k) for your backstory, and even for your battles on the tabletop. This really couldn't be done in the Old World because everything was mapped out.

With the Grand Alliance stuff, tailoring an army to your fluff and preferences is easy, too.

It looks good on paper, then you play ht egame and you understand how bad it is.

Nobody is ever gong to waste attack on a fight with a 2+ rerollable model.
They are either going to snipe it in 1 turn with thundertusk, hurricanum, skyfires, or other mortal wound dealing shit.

Or you effectively are into combat with unit which are "rend -" which mean you are falling into his cheap anvil unit and he want you to stay there while you could killed something much more important and it's probably impossible to get your point back vs those zombies/ratmen

I liked warhammer fantasy because of the scale and personability of it, the idea of some imperial captain protecting some podunk town from a warband of orcs or a pair of chaos champions and their few dozen followers each fighting over who gets to burn that town to ashes, or an upstart necromancer marching his way out of mousillion as he's engaged by a band of minor nobles is appealing to me. In contrast AoS feels deeply deeply flanzerized and pushed to silly scales, where KHORNE SLAUGHTER BLOODS fight over the plane of elemental light against the GOLD THUNDER HAMMER ORDER OF THE STAR DRAGONS to the point where I can't shake the taste of archetype vs archetype rather than character of this archetype vs character of this archetype. It's just such a thematic disconnect it's difficult for me to empathize with my dudes. With the scale of 40k it works because every world is still a setting unto it's own but in aos it feels too ambiguous and massive for it's own good.
>>
>>51567802
as a supporter of AOS I 100% agree that the setting needs to solidify some boundries, make the smaller picture something you can zoom in on, at least you can still run an army of Freeguilders

People who are determined to not give AoS a shot cannot be convinced otherwise. It's best to not waste your time and energy.
People will only come around when they are ready.

The 4 Pages of rules are mocked by 40k but the irony is that AoS is a much cleaner, much clearer, and much better ruleset than the mess that 40k has become.
Playing AoS is great, playing 40k is a chore.
I can play 3 or 4 games of AoS in the time it takes to play one game of 40k.

DE, HE, and lizards will be the first full expansion, which is gonna happen AFTER all the old world is done
Which means you gotta wait for, in no particular order, Skaven, Ogre kingdoms, tomb KANGZ, brets, and probably chaos dorfs. Though CA has also said stuff that implies that they might do MORE stuff than just that, so if we're lucky Kislev may get some stuff, and maybe even the eastern kingdoms too

>>
i was wondering does AoS' lore mention the old world at all? How in depth?
>>
>>51572079
Quite often. Not too much depth (after all it's blurry to most but a few characters), though Katarin of Kislev makes an appearance to get shit done.
>>
>>51569815
See, I want to like AoS but with armies like this I just can't. 3 big monsters (and that's not counting the necroknights), Settra, two heroes, a casket of souls and barely any of the old "basic" units.

That doesn't look like an army, it looks like Settra & Friends: Rumble in the Jungle.

And except for some nice surprises, this kind of thing seems to be the norm. Just like 40k is becoming a shitfest with Lords of War and everyone allying with everyone.

I want to play against an army, not the Avengers.

And well, then there is the larger than life lore...
>>
>>51572241
Then only play at 1000 points in non-competitive games, and make a hardcore High Elf only army

This is the era of your dudes and having fun, play the game like you like
>>
>>51572259
And if someone fields minimum ork boyz battleline and all mortal wound spam beastlords? Just say no thanks and play someone else
Not rocket science
>>
>>51572259
You have always been able to have "your dudes". Just having them in a coherent army organization, and not some superhero-assembly-like force. Which makes sense considering WHFB/AoS are wargames, and not MOBAS.
Even more so in WHFB when you could equip them with items that changed their role in the battlefield, something that imho they should include in AoS, some more customization wouldn't hurt.
>>
>>51572241
I get what you mean but the 3x chariot chaos lord on dragon 2k lists were hardly different. Well except the chaos list was a tourney staple in 7e i think it was
>>
>>51572241
Are you complaining in all earnest that the ugliest models in the game are now useless? "Basic units" killed FB because nobody liked them.
>>
>>51572241
I'm not a fan of SC+monsters armies either, but it just reminds me of the core tax+cheese of WHFB.
And even, big monster armies might look cool, the only issue with this pic is the too few foots skellies, imho.
>>
>>51572241
Eh, don't play, simple.
>>
>>51572429
I can't tell about Chaos, but I do know that TK had a "proper" army feel, because their rules favoured that style. Just like most armies, really. Bretonnians, Elves, Empire... perhaps Lizardmen could have had saurus warriors boosted, because skinks were often taken instead.

Chaos has always been a bit different...

>>51572481
No, rules changes to make those units even bigger (once upon a time a 16-20 men block was considered very solid, and that'd be a single regiment box) and more than doubling the cost of said units over 10 years, or not even that, did it.

Unit blocks make for very, very cool posing and mini-dioramas. Unit fillers are a great loss in AoS.

>>51572519
If he had 30 skelly spearmen and 20 skelly archers, that would look cool. It's the disproportionate ratio of monsters to humble soldiers that is frustrating.
>>
>>51572593
I bet he thinks that army looks cool and that's all that matters.

Also, isn't there that game called 9th age or something like that where you can play with "armies"?
>>
>>51572593
Filler units are no loss at all
See everyone's least favourite army, Stormcasts. Liberators are dull as hell, and exist only for cheap battleline. Basically every other melee model is cooler and better, so people want to play them.

Have you considered playing flames of war instead, since you like pre-ordained lists?

Yes, there's 9th, but as I said, I would like to like AoS. I'm not necessarily opposed to using round bases (although perhaps use big round bases for units instead of individual soldiers, unless they are skimishers?) and simplifying the rules.

Units have free rules on app and GW site. Core rules for open games are for free too. If you want to play pitched battles (with points) you have to buy General's Handbook or download PDF. Same with most battalion warscrolls but they are rarely used and you can find them on 1d4chan

>>

Noone knows. For now you can use a nice amount of models in both games so it's already good. We have to wait and see if they will kill Slaanesh in 40k and if they replace her in AoS

-Liberators x10 - Warblades, Shields, Grandhammers x2 - 200
-Liberators x10 - Warblades, Shields, Grandhammers x2 - 200
-Judicators x5 - Boltstorm Crossbows, Thunderbolt Crossbow - 160
-Judicators x5 - Boltstorm Crossbows, Thunderbolt Crossbow - 160
-Paladin Decimators x5 - 200
-Paladin Protectors x5 - 200

- Hammerstrike Force - 120

-Prosecutors x3 - Stormcall Javelins, Stormsurge Trident - 80
-Paladin Retributors x5 - Starsoul Mace x2 - 220
-Paladin Retributors x5 - Starsoul Mace x2 - 220

2000/2000

Only models on the board turn one will be the Prosecutors, hopefully out of line of site from shooting. Then pretty much everything deepstrikes and hopefully a lot of turn one charges.

The Horned Rat is the god of all Skaven, but Pestilens are his most fanatical and devoted worshipers, all Skaven are aware of him but most have replaced him with technology and forcibly harness magic though these means. This is seen as heretical to the true children of the horned rat who are blessed with plague magic and plague immunity directly in reward for their efforts

Pestilens old Fantasy origins involve stealing the Liber Bubonicus from Nurgle. In the mortal realms they are allies of convenience and little more. Plague monks who appear to follow Nurgle warbands are actually taken over by brain-maggots and act more like zombies who are hated by true Pestilens skaven and cut down easily.

Nurgles goal is stagnation and calculation of diseases to be used sparingly and perfected, they take pleasure in prolonging battles yet like all the gods they seek to overrun the realms in time

Pestilens only values results and want the quickest route to victory as all Skaven do with the most fast-acting ailments. they seek out the hidden 13 great Plagues and when all of them are assembled they believe the mortal realms shall rot-wither.

What exactly is the significance of taking normal hammers vs blades?

Ultimately they have the same chances to deal damage. What am I missing here? Is it purely aesthetics at the end of the day?
>>
>>51574766
Hammers become better when you have a +1 to hit, and Stormcast have a few ways to get that while no way to get a +1 to wound that would make the blade betters.

Also I think that for Liberators the hammers are more iconic.
>>
>>51574766
A miniscule improvement of hammers over swords with the Lord-Celestant's command. Basically, take what you like; I have both. But it's easier to group them into categories based on the to-hit roll, I think. Allows you to keep better track of shit.

If you are looking for a cool army to collect I would totally recommend going mortal Nurgle.

I have some questions... sorry if I missed the answers.

1. Can a player who loses all his models win on VPs or is tabled = defeated?

2. Following the above question - If you table your opponent on... turn 3 (for example)? But my opponent had lets say 6 VPs to my 5 VP... Am I allowed to play my remaining turns (Let's say turn 4 and 5) without my opponents force on the table (as he has been tabled) in an attempt to beat him on VPs??
>>
>>51577589
you automatically win if you table your opponent, so question 2 is irrelevant
>>
>>51577589
Gw Specifically answered that question on of their stream (good luck finding it again tho, they shit 3hours stream like nobody), if you table the guy and he has more VP, basically you play the remaining turn alone...
So no, tabling your opponent isn't going to make you LOOSE.
It will be faq'ed in GHB 2 as either a total win or you play the last turn alone desu.

My post is about places of power were you have to capture 3 points, if it's what you mean by ""VP""

You would have to be very salty to be like
>"Heh you tabled me but I win now, tough luck pal" any TO will rule it as a win for the guy tabling the other turn 3.
>>
>>51577589
You table someone you win. It's always been like that.

You win by either
1)Completing the objectives
2)Tabling your opponent.
>>
>>51570715
Funnily enough, CA's leaked DLC plans from a couple months back mentioned plans for a chaos dwarf army. I remain cautiously optimistic about seeing them!
>>
>>51577350

Nah I get you senpai. They are expensive, the argument can be made that you need to buy less but I am sitting on 4x5 blight kings, a lord of plagues, harbinger, maggoth lord and a sorcerer and that was a pretty penny. Only 1,500 points if you include the battalion and a group of nurglings that I summon with twice born.

I hope we will see Start Collecting for Nurgle Mortals. I really like unit models for Daemons but Daemon Heroes are just so fuckin expensive and look terrible - literally shit-tier while mortal heroes are god-tier. I would like to buy daemons SC! boxes and merge them with mortal heroes but they would lose a lot of pure-list synergy. Maybe GW will release some new daemons heroes? I can only hope

Aedan Kalifax, Torch of Azyr is the Lord Celestant of a small warband in the realm of Shadow. Posted lore about him a few threads ago.

as a general principal what you are describing is accurate. AOS is most often played most successfully with the maximum number of powerful characters and minimum number of other things. You will often see the strongest elite troops in good armies too because they are very efficient on the table.

Thing is, bro, people like playing "super friends" armies.

People don't tend to enjoy painting and assembling 50-100 models just to play a mid size game.

I hope GHB 2.0 addresses this with a rebalancing of points. Or maybe they won't because GW likes the current business model, hard to say.

Yeah GHB allows you to run plaguebringers with nurgle mortal heroes. Its a pain for mortal nurgle as they are tied to that mortal key word pretty strongly and if you run any non-mortal heroes enjoy adding new battleline.......

and am i reading this right or did you actually get to summon a free one every turn (or more then 1) in the old non generals handbook rules?

anyway how do you counter this thing? he always has that 4+ save followed by a 2+ save (mystic shield) and even if i get some wounds in he just heals them.
>>
>>51579852
More than likely the second half, as Hamerhal comes out in the first.
>>
>>51579790
where do you see the point cost?
>>
>>51579872
Yes before the GHB you could summon indefinitely

You counter it by throwing tons of focus fire at it and making sure it charges something it can't kill and heal off from

Snipe the wizards in range to give it Mystic Shield and then pile in tons of attacks

Dispossed will cover the first wave, with some reboxed Irondrakes, Thunderers, Longbeards and the sort, with a retooled rune lord and warden king. Next wave will most likely consist of Ironweld, though I have no further information about it.

Yet. There's a lot of 'shit GW hasn't touched yet' in AoS.

i killed it 1 time when he forgot to mystic shield it and i managed 2 wounds with my 6 ironguts. but i dont think he will do that again. he has like 3 vampires that 2+ save is just ridciulous.

about the maw spell for the butcher. its basically a worse arcane bolt since it cant generate extra wounds by general handbook rules right ?

Just got the Silver Tower box set yesterday with a few friends. We all play 40k, have never touched fantasy or AoS. What should we expect?

I've got lots of other Tzeentch models (both fantasy and 40k, I'm a big collector). Will having those handy help to supplement anything?

Silver Tower is its own game. While the models can be used in standard AoS games, it alone isn't going to be enough to field proper armies.

It's a good game in and of itself though.

If I ever make a Stormcast army, I plan on buying pic related, making a press mold and making a bunch of green stuff helmets of the gold face. It would fit so much better than what we have now.
>>
>>51578166
That's why I use simple green. On one hand you have to do some scrubbing with an old toothbrush, but on the other hand it won't damage my beloved yet badly painted models. I've accidentally left figures in a simple green bath for months to no ill effect.
>>
>>51578166
How'd you get that skull helmet anon?
>>
>>51581837

Oh I know. I've been thinking about getting into AoS (I play Daemons of Tzeentch in 40k) but I understand this is its' own game with its own rules.

>>51582460

Going over the book they don't seem so difficult but I'm only halfway through. I'm glad they're narrative though.

Question though, at times it's gonna be just me and one friend able to play. I understand it's for 2-4 players, but would it be easy to change it to one person controlling 4 heroes and having one person just control the dungeon enemies?

When I saw the Scourge Privateers faction was a thing, my first thought was how cool it would be to make an army of these guys and fluff them up as possessing an interdimensional Black Ark and a fleet of dark elf void ships going around raiding the enemies, paid as privateers for Freeguild lords to harass the enemies of Order.

>>51589759
I think I'd avoid that unit the whole game desu. If they're just waiting around to be charged that is.
>>
>>51590359
Yeah, that's the main problem with that tactic. You need to position the units somewhere where the enemy just cannot afford, or better, aren't able, to ignore them.
>>
>>51590357
i was thinking to take like 12 bulls just for the reroll everything and to have it meaty. a unit of 6 ironguts and then 60 grots.

Wow. Go big or go home, I guess, but still. That's a lot of meat on the table.
>>
>>51590359
Behind the Liberators and Protectors sit a bunch of Judicators with bows, the Celestant Prime and (soon) Raptors as well as a few support heroes.
If you don't engage the brick and try to break through, you'll be shot to pieces by the long-ranged guns.
Doesn't work on many scenarios, obviously.
>>
>>51590769
Just bring some ironweld or other fuckers with longer range. CD iron rape train or gobbo lobba/spear chukka battery. Smack the heroes and judicators first, use disposable screens of gobbos or fireglaives to shield the artillery. Or a hurricanum if order.
