I wish I had the heart to include inefficient pet cards in my decks.

If I really want to include one, I just convince myself it has a real role in the deck.

Huh, with the exception of the more expensive cards, this list is surprisingly similar to mine.

You should check out Mine Layer, goes with Dwarven Blastminer rather well. And maybe Marshal's Anthem for post-wrath effects

What are your guys hopes for the next commander set?
>>
>>51548381
A commander that aggressively promotes Boros stax
>>
>>51548381
Personally? Either more Walker-Commanders (expecting 2 color this time) or more 4 color commanders that don't fucking have Partner. (Nearly every Partner was a giant let-down. Ludevic being the biggest of the lot,)
Also, more RW non-combat-oriented commanders, more like Depala.

Realistically? Probably another 3 color lot to go with what will likely be a 3-color block of Amunkhet (expecting 3 color Shard God cards from this "Trial of the 5 Gods" thing and that Bolas is one of them (not a God card himself, just a Walker card, but the other 4 would be Gods))
Also, RW will be combat based.

Alright /edhg/, I've been on a bit of a lore kick lately and I wanted to know, would you be ok if someone showed up at your LGS and wanted to have both of these siblings in the command zone? I kinda wanna make a Phyrexian themed deck and these two have sweet art. Crovax's(Ascendant Evincar) art isn't really my thing, Greven always felt like a servant, and Volrath, while my second choice, kinda has a linear "pitch big cards" thing going.

It's mostly up to your playgroup.
I have someone in my group that likes to use both Brothers Yamazaki as twin heads of a mono-Red deck, and we're all fine with it. We just treat them as having Partner, so they're counted separately for things like Commander damage and tax.

I kind of have a hate boner for anything simic, ( and I haven't really played it either ) so I'm probably a bit biased. But what does he offer over like momir vig or kruphix? Simic and mono blue seems always boils down to
>get infinite mana
>blue sun zenith and friends and mill everyone to death

or

>enter the infinite + lab man
>>
>>51552122
Nah, that's pretty much it.
Nearly every UG or UGx deck boils down to
>generate infinite mana
>do infinite combo / cast cmc X card for infinite with said mana

Doesn't help that it's inherently uninteresting and uninterruptible thanks to having U, so they just counter and bounce anything you try to do to stop them.

I've found that Zur is pretty much run by either completely oblivious newbies or turbofaggot "competitive EDH" players, with the skew more towards the latter. If, after the game you mentioned to him that Zur tends to attract hate and mentored him towards finding a commander in the same colors with a much smaller bullseye, it's really not that bad.

On the other hand, if you just kinda kicked sand at him and told him to get off the beach until he got swole, then yeah, you're a dick and should feel bad.

Not saying you should hold the poor guy's hand. Once you realize he's not a turbofaggot or at least pretending not to be, though, you should at least let him know he might attract less hate if he either switches commanders or forewarns his opponents that he's not going balls deep no lube. Build up the playerbase, don't detract from it.

I'd be fine if, somewhere down the road, not Amonkhet but a couple of sets down the road, maybe sneaking a dude or two into the main Standard set with Partner.

Then again, I do have an issue with Wizards coming up with neat ideas and mechanics, then completely ignoring them to the point where they're almost forgotten before doing anything with them. Shit like Flanking, Partner, Vehicles seem destined to go down that path, Detain, Rush, Bolster, all neat stuff that can definitely be used later on down the road. All probably going to be ignored until we might return to said plane, and we get yet another Jacetice League-based uninspired plot to meander through.

Hell, your pic brings up a good point, in that the partners were really safe, bland ideas stapled to mediocre bodies. Push the fuckin' envelope a bit, maybe take a risk and bring in some older keywords that haven't been seen in a while. Shit like Wither or Hideaway, both not seen since the Lowryn/Shadowmoor block back in 2008. 2008! Fuckin' A, I remember when that shit was coming out, and now I feel old.

No, I said Thrasios is great because he makes your combos more efficient by not needing to draw into a mana outlet. For instance, a Kruphix deck may need Palinchron + Deadeye + BSZ in hand to combo out, where in Thrasios only needs Palinchron + Deadeye.

Pretty sure I have too much ramp and not enough to use with the ramp. But this is my second ever deck so I kinda happy with it so far

It's your typical super-budget, super-ramp dragons deck.
>>

>>
>>51551992

Personally, I find those two to be completely awesome together. And the cumulative upkeeps on both will (or should) keep you in check. I'd allow it, especially because of the whole "siblings" thing going on.

But if it were two random black legendaries? Nothx bro

>>

You need Scourge of the Throne and Dragon Tempest. Maybe Moltensteel Dragon too.

But definitely Dragon Tempest.
>>
>>51553575
Using the right cards you can constantly recur it and keep the main threat to your deck in check as you build your doomsday machine.
>>
>>51553683

Dragon Tempest is already on the list. Also forgot to mention, I don't/can't buy cards over like $1.50. Hence the "super-budget" part

I use Hellkite Charger as a cheapo version of Scourge of the Throne
>>
>>51552122
Commander is your win condition, so as long as you have labman (not recommended) or something that lets you shuffle your grave into your deck, you can just cast anything any number of times.

Also it doesn't have to be creatures, so you can play dramatic reversal instead of deadeye shit
>>
>>51553777
You also get 4 colors. Which is better than just UG.
>>
Alright guys, which one of these is better? I wanna say Burgeoning, because if your hand is full of land and you're in a 4+ player game, you'll end up dropping more land out than you would with the extra drop Exploration gives you.
>>
>>51553825

If you have the card draw to back it up, Burgeoning is objectively better. If not, Exploration.

Though you gotta consider that Burgeoning could get to the point (in the late-game stage) where opponents decide to not play lands anymore, which makes it useless. But then again if you're at 10+ mana, do you really need it anymore?
>>
>>51553825
I'd say pack both, since they're really only useful in the early game, and with both in a deck, you're more likely to get one of them when it'll put in the most work.

If I had to pick one though, Burgeoning, though to make it work, you either need decent card draw like the anon above me said, or a pretty heavy land count.

>>
>>51554107
Abundance replaces the card draw, so Sylvan doesn't see you "draw" the cards. The two together effectively read, "Filter three cards of your choice of either land or nonland in order off the top of your library, and put them into your hand for fuggin free".

What makes this card so good? How do I efficiently use this as part of a Voltron deck?
>>
>>51554107

this card is so awesome. i love when i have an enchantress in play plus this, because i can play an enchantment and name nonland, and ill probably reveal another enchantment off the top, play that, do the same thing, and on and and on

also part of my enduring ideal wincon combo. i get poss storm + rule of law in play, so nobody can cast spells, then i get sphere of safety and/or solitary confinement and such in play, so nobody can kill me with the creatures they have in play already, then i get abundance and i can't be decked, so its only a matter of time before everybody decks themselves (i get rest in peace if they have eldrazi titans)
>>
>>51554332

this is card is stupidly good in limited and cube and legacy, etc because you only need to get off one attack or block with it and then youre set, because the counters stay on the jitte even if the equipped creature dies. you can then use the counters to -1/-1 away any blockers they may have had, which frees you up to keep attacking and getting more counters on the jitte, at which point your opponent scoops

desu its kind of overrated in edh though, its still great but not OP, because the multiplayer format and the general splashier nature, means the value of sniping X/1's is less meaningful

it still gets pretty silly with double strike, i recommend rafiq for the jitte. if you wanna try out sram, make sure you have battle mastery and fireshrieker

now that i think about it, its also pretty good with first strike, because you can use the counters before your opponents creatures get to deal combat damage
>>
>>51553825
>>51553868
>>51553967
>>51554007

i actually think exploration is better because playing extra lands on your own turn is better than playing them on your opponents

there are certain situations where burgeoning gets you more mana, like if you have consecrated sphinx or something, but i think thats win more, and the advantage of being in control of the timing of the land drops with exploration makes it better than burgeoning

i think no matter what deck youre running, if you only include 1 of the two, you include exploration.
>>
>>51554332
You'd be surprised what an instant speed (effectively) free +2/+2 or -1/-1 can do for you. And as the other anon stated, the counters stay on. So if you swing this with your little mana dork or early ramp critter, then it still has those counters when your voltron or effective beater comes out.

If you can defend it, the thing is fairly strong - it's not gonna go flying around the table hamstringing Ulamogs and Kozileks, but it has its own subtle strengths that really shine in decks where that +2/+2 truly matters.

i can't quite remember what deck it was, but i'm pretty sure it was my monoblack. i've already reworked it into a yahenni deck though.

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/geth-the-christmas-grinch/

it has no real built-in wincons besides either reanimating its own gary a lot, casting rise of the dark realms on turn 12 or just smashing people with the commander. typically it just tries to kill people's creatures and reanimate them for fun.

i guess it's not exactly a "mega casual meme deck" since it does have a few wincons, but it was more about being completely incapable of answering academy rector->omniscience at all, and having no way to win before like turn 13 myself

here's my actual real meme deck that i bring out when i absolutely just want to meme around for most of the game and then maybe cast mob rule and smash the blue player

I'm not sure it could, though. Just because it basically willed itself to be bound to Innistrad's Moon doesn't necessarily mean it can just bust itself out anytime it wants.

Yes, Emrakul changed the spell that bound it and mindraped Tamiyo to cast it, but that doesn't mean Emrakul controls the binding.

Think of it as letting yourself be caught by the police and sent to jail. Just because you let them put you there doesn't mean you can just say "Right, I don't want to be here anymore," and magically bust out without any trouble.

Your reasoning doesn't make any sense to me.
What do you mean you don't care about value? would you trade me a mana vault for my scarred puma or what? and how do you need only one copy of each? do you only have one deck? I have like 8 copies of sol ring 3 necropotence and phyrexian arena, 2 Gauntlet of Power, etc.

>But you're also wrong, while original printings will obviously be more expensive, give it time and this particular FTV is going to be quite expensive. This isn't like Angels where the only worthwhile cards were Avacyn and Iona.
FTV lore has Jitta and Dark Depths value wise, you could maybe count unmask too that's it.
>>
>>51556729

Guess I'm lucky then. I never thought about getting FTV but this and angels look good
>>
>>51556792
Don't be silly anon.

We're aware of the general price of cards, but we aren't playing the MTG Stock Market like other formats. We buy what we want because it's good and fits into our decks, not because we need a playset of something expensive to actually play the format. While most of us would have quite a few Sol Rings, there's no real reason to buy 4 Elesh Norn, or multiple copies of Mana Crypt, unless your group is particularly salty about you abusing very powerful cards in every deck.

The singleton nature of the format means you can get away with having a more diverse collection. I've proxied various things that I own all the time, and it's a fairly accepted practice, though I intentionally build things spread out across multiple archetypes so I don't need multiple copies for multiple decks. No one will be mad if you're proxying a card you own and can reliably produce if asked.

Now, the thing about FtV: Lore is, between Jitte, Dark Depths, the token, Unmask, Momir Vig and Memnarch, you have a pretty reasonable chunk of cards that will consistently see play. While Momir and Memnarch are niche, they are very popular commanders with neat foiling on them, though Memnarch's flavour text is horrible. Also, you almost make your money back with Depths and Jitte, whereas Iona is like $9 and Platinum Angel is like $7.
>>
FTVs are pretty much almost worth it if you get it at MSRP, I think the only exception might be Annihilation but most of those cards are at least $5 a piece (although Burning of Xinye is $60 otherwise).

I preorder every FTV at my LGS for MSRP (so like $40 tops) and I come out like a bandit every time, I would never advocate buying one after the fact unless you're some sort of collector. Considering you'll only want to play like 3 cards tops from any FTV, you can just buy the singles.

Why do people do this? Just have lists that you can build on the spot. Section off similar decks that share pieces to quickly organize things. Am I the only one who does this? I only need one of each card in my collection.
>>
>>51557412
it looks like it would get you hated off the table in an instant without you being able to say anything about it

imo group slug doesn't really work as an archetype unless your deck is extremely cutthroat and can 1v3 the table. my friend's nekusar deck never really wins unless there are bigger threats to deal with. usually people just ignore him for most of the game, occasionally killing off his nekusar, then he ends up 1v1 against some beefy lategame board state and just gets his shit slapped

so yeah, might want to test your stuff out on xmage or something to see if it actually survives at all

Marit Lage is a legendary creature. The legacy deck built her runs 4 dark depths, but would only need one token, that's why the token is worth dick.

Besides that, momir vig is worth almost nothing, memnarch is a dollar and unmask is five bucks.

Jitte and DD are the only value cards. In price they pretty much have a 1:1 correspondence with avacyn and iona, the two most valuable cards from FTV: angels.

Lore will not have a big rise in price, too much bulk.
>>
>>51557505
The token was worth like $20 for the longest time because it was only printed as a promo from Coldsnap.

FTV Memnarch is $4, non foil Memnarchs are like $8 already.

The Unmask is $10 at least, it was recently subject to a buyout. Mercadian Masques copies are $15.
>>
>>51557505
>>51557524
You two live on different continents.
>>
None of the FTVs from recent years are worth investing into. First off, you're too late, and second, everyone else and their grandma has the same idea, which means they'll never go up in price.
>>
>>51557524
But because the token generally has a demand that's 4 times less than the demand of DD, it'll stay low for a long time.
>>
>>51545540

the question is, i think, which one of those do you want to go nuts on turn 1,and in that respect i think burgeoning wins.
>>
>>51557926
Depends on what else is in your hand. If you're heavy on lands in your hand then Burgeoning is good, Exploration lets you do more on turn 1 though (like Exploration->second land->another 1 drop, etc).

Still both cards are good and should be played in land-heavy decks.

I finally got my first victory with the Mechanized Production win-con. I enchanted a Thopter, I had a Thopter Spy Network, Pia and Kiran, my commander (Breya) all giving me thopters, and to top things off I had Padeem on the field giving all artifacts hexproof. The turn before my winning upkeep one opponent swung at me for 30 damage, but I didn't even care because it wasn't lethal. It felt good.
>>
>>51558048
To be honest, Ugin probably lied about killing them because of how mad he was when he found out (Zendikar Resurgent) and it definitely wasn't one Planeswalker.
>>
>>51558048

It's not like they couldn't kill them. Ugin advised them against doing so because they could potentially fuck up the fabric of reality if they did, so they captured them

The Jacetice League had 0 means to capture them and the plan to kill them had like 1/1000 chance of success

Are you running this in a multiplayer or duel format? I only ask because a few of your single target mills spells obviously could be replaced. But I get what you're going for and the deck will definitely do what you want it to do without breaking your budget.

Also, have you considered slotting in a deck recycler silver bullet like extract? My playground wised up to my milling ways and starting slotting them into a few decks that made sense. Being able to remove it entirely is pretty useful. Also, as you're playing Phenax have you considered eater of the dead? It straight up wins if you have it and your god on the field.

Naturally you can buy all sorts of expensive and goodstuffy shit to push yourself further but the deck is solid. I would recommend lifeline if your opponents start wizing up and try to boardwipe you, it's a great artifact.

>>
>>51564974
5 colours is okay and you do well with it in casual metas with low budget. In more competitive places the manabase is gonna be really expensive, because you're gonna need fetches and duals.
When it comes to 3 colours, it really depends on what you want to play. Just pick an interesting commander and go with it, just don't make a deck that can't function without it.
>>
>>51564974
5 colors isn't actually all that hard. I mean, if you're willing to spend a ridiculous amount of money on lands, it's basically impossible to mess up, but even without OG Duels and optimal Fetches it's not too bad.

Find out which three colors your deck favors, build a three color mana base for those three, then splash the other two.

What's so incredibly good about this card exactly? If it was only 1 life for the card draw on a 2 cost creature i could maybe see why he's so useful. But hus downside seems way too great for a bit of card draw, especially considering that he's played mostly in 20 life formats. I don't get it.
>>
>>51566305
Being 2 mana and have a competitive statline have been the driving force behind his success, not to mention the decks that play him rarely exceed 4 cmc and often have an average cmc around 1-2
>>
>>51566305
1) Its cost
2) You've got around a 40% chance of only taking 0-1 damage in most decks
3) Card draw is not to be underestimated.
>>
>>51566305
He's not incredibly good in EDH, outside of the super spiky combo decks with a million tutors and mana rocks. In any deck thats not that fine-tuned and competitive, the high CMC of the format will make it suboptimal. Plus, there's simply other card draw thats harder to get rid of, like Phyrexian Arena.

He's pretty great in some modern decks, particularly GBx since those decks focus on having each individual card you draw being considerably better than the individual cards drawn by your opponent. Those decks run tons of cheap ways to 1 for 1 your opponent like IoT, TS, Path, and Bolt, so Confidant allows you to actually pull ahead in a game instead just answering threats on a 1 for 1 basis.

I've had the same junk binder since 1999 so it feels good to finally show off some of my more expensive cards and some of the alters I've gotten.

I originally had a Meren deck but I took it apart cuz nobody liked playing against it. I love the new art on the akromas. Can't wait for my playmat to come in.

Find me something better at two mana
>>
>>51566577
I'd honestly run Night's Whisper over Confidant in commander desu
>>
>>51566652

But that's just a one-time thing. Confidant happens over and over
>>
>>51566577
There really isn't a lot card draw at 2 mana but I'd much rather wait a turn and play phyrexian arena for some steady draw.
>>
>>51566676
Yeah, but in my playgroup, 1 toughness creatures normally don't survive for two upkeeps. Plus, with how comboy the format is, it's nice to not have to wait for the cards.
>>
>>51566734
>I'd much rather wait a turn and play phyrexian arena

Agreed 100%, especially since you wouldn't have to show what you draw. The thing that Confidant has going for it is the less mana, kinda like how Lightning Bolt is 3bux and Lightning Strike is like 15 cents.

Keep in mind, Confidant only really works in normal, 60-card Magic. In EDH? Yeah no thx bro
>>
>>51566652
>Nothing to out to block Uril

This is why you are always the first to die Billy.
>>
>>51566577
>>51566676
The thing is, Confidant works in 1v1 magic because letting your opponent know what your combo pieces are really doesn't matter half the time. He's played in Modern and Legacy, both formats where games are decided on turn 5-6, sometimes earlier.

He's bad in EDH because he's a weak body, outclassed by Rhystic Study/Phyrexian Arena/ect because he's easier to remove, and revealing your hand to 2-3 other people isn't such a good thing.

Pretty sure I'm gonna get rid of Rumbling Crescendo and/or Seismic Strike, but don't know what to replace them with. Probably Archetype of Aggression and Fervor.

Dark confidant is fucking amazing even if he is a weak shit creature.

Who cares if people know what you draw as long as you have the card advantage? information isn't super damning in EDH.

Not to mention cards that can almost ensure you take the least damage or reveal the least amount of meaningful information (library, top, rack, any other library manipulation)
>>
>>51566934
it will have some shitty uncommon tier effect and partner
>>
>>51567372
>Partner
I seriously doubt they will ever revisit that mechanic after the backlash they got for it.
>>
>>51567387

Lol did they? I thought it was sorta neat
>>
>>51567400
Tons of people thought it was lazy and a cop-out so WotC didn't have to print more than one cycle of 4-color commanders. The fact that all of them except Thrasios and Kydele are really weak doesn't help.
>>
So I want to build some sort of mill commander, but I don't know what. I've been looking at Dimir and Sultai colors but can't decide on whether I want self mill recursion or mill enemies. Which should I do /edh/?

Been working on this list for the past few days and it's finally at a place where I'm content with it. Wanted to see what you guys thought before I pulled the trigger.

Mirko Vosk, Mind Drinker

And then put in Consuming Aberration and all the typical mill spells. Got loads of money you can throw at this? Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger
>>
>>51567617
What is your opinion on Phenax? What are some typical mill spells I could put in?
>>
>>51567665
Phenax + eater of the dead is cheeky and cool.
>>
>>51567704
I only mentioned him because if we are talking Dimir colors then I would either choose between Mirko Vosk or Phenax and Mirko is a bit too aggressive for my play style (I'm a more politics-y player).
>>
>>51567457
Not exactly mill but Nekusar and wheels are always fun
>>
>>51567728
I already have a Nekusar deck. Pretty fun, but Nekusar being Nekusar I get hated on pretty early on into the game.
>>
>>51567704

Fucking awesome, would run.

>>51567665

Phenax is great if you work him right. I have a friend that plays him + all defenders. Puts in solid work
>>
>>51567665
If you're gonna run Phenax, run as many fatties and Walls as you can.
All the Defenders really help keep you safe, and then you can just mill away with them at the end step of the opponent right before your turn.
>>
>>51567895
>All the Defenders really help keep you safe, and then you can just mill away with them at the end step of the opponent right before your turn.

Fuck... why the hell didn't I think of this? For some dumb reason I always thought you'd spend your turns milling, and have little to nothing to mill with.

Goddamn I'm stupid.

Any secret tech I may be missing with tribal humans? I feel like it has potential but I'm not sure if I should go a stax/tax route with the deck or just keep it more tribal human beatdown.

Here's my list. Any criticism is appreciated. pls no bully.

Thoughts on blood scrivener for card draw? Maybe in rakdos hell bent or orzhov. I haven't had luck with it yet but it's provided some amount of value even when it's just acting like a vanilla 1/2 for 1b

That proxy is ugly as fuck

And yeah you're missing the best human tribal card ever.

You can literally noose your enemy's commander
>>
>>51568225
You have a lot of token generators so if your budget allows for it Elesh Norn would be really good
>>
>>51568298
Its worth testing out if you have a hellbent strategy.
>>
>>51568322
Was the only image on google that was actually legible. I considered this card but my LGS is doing a whole re-organizing of the bulk they have so they didn't have this card. Might just pick it up on tcgplayer.

>>51568334
Yea Elesh Norn, Avacyn, and Recruiter of the Guard are all on the list for next paycheck. Traded in my old gitrog deck to get literally every other card though. I haven't really found myself using her token generation ability enough tho.
>>
Please to gib new thread?
>>
So I've been playtesting this build solo, and even though it seems to run pretty decently I have to wonder: Won't other players just attack every planeswalker I play? Don't I need more stax effects to even keep 1 planeswalker on the board? Playing solo I can up my planeswalkers every turn, and even then I don't get to a winning boardstate until turn 7 or 8 really. Is this build just too slow and needs more cards like peacekeeper and spike weaver?

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/more-emblems-please/

What do you think /tg/ I'm open to suggestions, even "don't play that deck its shit"
>>
>>51568225
>Possible Additions: Westvale Abbey

Can you even include that in your Selesnya deck?
>>
>>51568492
Technically no, since it's B color identity due to the back side.
>>
>>51568492
It's flip is black, so I don't think that's legal.
