Highlander polled a month or so back about some cyoa's to make, Touhou reached the front almost immediately. Thing is it isn't a 'vanilla' touhou cyoa and some people immediately dismissed it's name an the inclusion of '/souls'. SDA and the Salt lords got into an argument, in spite of the fact we haven't even seen the cyoa yet.

No doubt there will be salt when the cyoa itself drops, as some girls will still be girls and some will be horrible tentacle monsters.

This time around instead of being the slouching nerd with garbage social skills, I'll be the artsy jock with a magnum dong. It'll be easy to be an amazing older brother, because I too love playing board/card games. If a person is able to absorb the soul of a Youkai, then it stands to reason that they would gain their level of power, and thus would eventually be able to challenge stronger youkai and absorb even more souls, becoming even more powerful.
Similar to how level and power progression in soulsgames work, you start of with the small fry and work your way up.

The real question is how big the hole is and how many worlds you're connected to, these two variables have an inverse relationship, meaning that you can be connected to five different worlds but only get a peek of what's going in the other side, or be connected to one world and be able to stick your whole arm through and exchange magical tech and weapons and shit.

Then there'd be the risk of things coming through the hole to our world or something going awry and what not.

Hahaha when I ranted to my friend about it (as I tend to do with every story idea I have) he was immediately very pushy about making sure it got done.

The backstory is about humans having gone to war with the fae and successfully sealing them off of the mortal realm, thanks to turning their magic against them, but as the humans begin to grow in power and experiment with fae magic, they find themselves adopting the attributes of the fae, gaining a gradually more childish body and mentality the more their power grows. Stuff happens, that the cyoa will explain, that divides the kingdom between the older sister's faction, who believes the magic should continue being used for the betterment of all, but who has since become a childish loli due to her own magical power, and not necessarily fit for ruling a kingdom on her own, and the younger sister's faction, who wants to banish the magic from the kingdom, but who has, somewhat hypocritically, begun allowing men to take up the magic to defend their kingdom from the other faction (as they'll most certainly lose without it). Due to a few story elements to help the plot set up the right way the younger sister's faction has magic wielding shotas, and the older sister has magic wielding lolis, and are pretty big on keeping the magic within their faction to one gender because of what happens if two moderately powerful magic practitioners have a child. This means the other gender of each faction became the soldiers and, due to the childish minds of their wizards, the caretakers to their factions magic users.

So you pick to be either a magic wielding "child" or a soldier/caretaker and pick your offensive abilities as well as other things, like what you try to do for your older/younger sibling in between battles to help out, allowing some cute and vaguely romantic but not necessarily lewd choices.

Throw in some companions regardless of your options, and let people make builds and go to war...

Simple enough...

Depression Quest.

It's this half parody half earnest idea I had where you make choices in your life in order to balance three different components, these being

1. Fulfillment: How much purpose you find in your life
2. Joy: How stimulating you find your life
3. Stress: How much pressure you're going through in your life

You make choices while trying to keep these different parameters from getting too high/too low and also benefitting you the most. So you could make a NEET build where you have zero stress and lots of joy but zero fulfillment or purpose in life, then again you could make a wageslave build where you get fulfillment from what you do and also have social opportunities to get joy, but you also have responsibilities which increase your stress.

If your fulfillment gets too low, you'll feel like shit and probably commit suicide
If your joy is too low you'll feel nothing inside and probably commit suicide
If your stress is too high you'll be unable to bear with it all and commit suicide.

And then there are also the small bonuses and miscellaneous choices you can make like volunteering to raise fulfillment while not incurring additional stress or hitting the gym in order to improve joy but also having to deal with the stress of actually going there and social pressure or getting a GF which massively boosts joy and fulfillment but also sets your stress high by default.

Lots of ideas, still working on something right now, I don't know when I'd have time to make it.
