A while back I did a thread about the worst unit in every codex, figured instead of piling on the hate lets jack off to some great units

What is the best unit in your codex for its points/lore/cool factor

For example I say the wyvern

For gsc, my best performing unit is the patriarch or the hybrid metamorphs all with hand flamers and lash whips, not many things are initiative 7 so they get to go first and watch out if they roll a 4,5 or 6 on the chart because they will be in your face with 5 hand flamers

As a guard player I can safely say that I'll take a strength 2 weapon if it gets to re-roll and ignore cover over ANY increase in the numbers. The meta is so out of our favor thanks to the sheer amount of T4+, 3+ or 2+, 4++ and shrouded shit we have to fight that spamming shit is pretty much the only choice.

Would need a lot of other stuff to get adjusted for higher strength to be anywhere near as good as what it is now.

Grav Centurions? Except Battle Company is more common and successful than gravstar.

Rhinos/Drop Pods because of Battle Company? But then again that just means they're so shit at 35 points they're only spammed when they're free and nobody plays CAD mech.

Librarians I guess? But they're not even taken in Battle Company.

I'm going to say Centurions. Librarians are good because of the dumb AoD powers, but they need a Conclave to be useful, and even if gravstar isn't as popular as Battle Company, it's still a degenerate list and the only unit that can be singled out outside of formations and synergy with psykers/allies is the Grav Centurion.

Well, I play two armies. For Tau, it's barely a contest. The Riptide is hated for a reason. It's a T6, 5W, 2+/5++ save, jet pack monster with a deadly AP2 gun and a versatile special rule that buffs itself. All this for only 185 points. It is almost impossible to deal with cheaply/quickly and it absolutely shits on anything of a similar price. It even mucks up the internal balance of the codex, as XV8s with plasma pale in comparison.

Then you have Orks which is a bit tougher to pin down. There are actually quite a few contenders. Painboyz are THE force multiplier for a relatively cheap price. Battlewagons are a tough, versatile and effective transport. Tankbustas are surprisingly excellent at anti-tank.

However, I'd say the award should go to Meganobz. They, ironically, do a better job at being Terminators than Terminators. For a small price bump, they get an extra wound and an extra attack. They get a smaller starting unit size so if things go tits up then that's not so many points wasted. They also have one of the most points-efficient, fast assault transports in the game (Trukk), whilst Terminators have to settle with the overpriced Land Raider.

What do they lose? Deep Strike, which would only paint a target on their backs for a turn. 5++ invulnerable, which is a shame, but 2W helps make up for it. They don't completely give up shooting, as combi-skorchas (heavy flamers) are cheap and strong, but it was never amazing on Terminators in the first place. The biggest loss is their shitty leadership but their formation solves that.

They're tough, deadly and sometimes go up in a ball of flames. The perfect Ork unit.

The Vendetta? Were this 5th edition I'd agree with you, but nowadays there are better flyers.

Also it has half the transport capacity, which means it cant take a veteran squad and always has been unable to.

Sister of Battle Codex, the Exorcist.

There is little to not like about this beauty of a tank. It's reasonably priced at 135, a tough bastard to tear down reliably with 13 front armour and an inbuilt 6++. It's gun is also a thing of Monsterous Creature and Terminator Melting Beauty. 1d6 BS 4 Str 8 AP 1 shots. You'll Instant Death the majority of special characters or HQ models if that gets through.

Sure, it doesn't ignore cover but you didn't bring it for pulling people out of cover. That what your endless flamers is for.

It also falters against 14 armour but again, the SOB codex has you covered in that area.

It's a damn good tank on it's own but it's also perfectly designed to cover the area in the SOB codex that meltas and flamers has issues with, monstrous creatures or units with several 2+ armour save models.

You can also give it Precision Shots with the new SOB cannoness for when you run out of 2+ save models to evaporate and make that meltagun marine a very unhappy guy in his squad of buddies.

That's a genuinely tough call. For all the shit people give DE, the codex is mostly reasonably internally balanced (Hellions and Wyches excepted).

I think a lot of people would say Trueborn, but they're expensive flimsy Guardians in cardboard Vypers, only with better guns. Others might say Scourge but they're also flimsy as hell and would have been better if they were Jet Pack rather than Jump Infantry.

So in light of all of the circumstances, I give it to motherfucking Reavers.
>16 pts/model isn't that bad considering they're fast as hell, can jink without losing much, can be kitted out for a variety of roles, perform solid escort duty if you ally in a Banshee Mask Autarch or maybe a Farseer with the Shard of Anaris

>Perfect for MSU screen units or for larger infantry mulcher squads
>Can do reasonably well against basically any target

The only annoying part is that they always fuck up your points total so you never reach a number ending in 0. Also it's a bit annoying that Guardian Windriders can have 3 fucking Scatter Lasers but Reavers can't have 3 Heat Lances or Blasters.

I don't dislike Trueborn, and I didn't mean to imply that they're bad. I was exaggerating their weaknesses for the purpose of the comparison, which I probably should have made more clear. It's always pretty great when they actually work and get their shots off and kill the shit out of whatever you wanted to kill.

A biker HQ would be great but you can sort of substitute it with using the rules for an Allied Detachment of CWE and just modelling the Autarch and Windriders as Reaver-type-guys. I've been planning on doing that for a while but haven't ever gotten around to doing it.

This, although I am odd admech player who enjoys rangers more then vanguard so take this as you will.

130 points strength 10 ap 1 48 inch main gun with 2 cognis heavy stubbers. And is effected by doctrine imperatives, noice.

Dont have any sister players at our shop, so have played against it, but it strike me from it stats it would be pretty nice. For got yo mention that oanger has a 6+inv that goes up by one for every other oanger within 12inchs (or was it 6..)

Yeah, I've got Skittari and Sisters. They make a rather nice pairing. The Sisters provide Scouting Meltagun tanks and deep striking flamer squads, the Mechanicus provides some long range guns that the SOB lack outside of the Exorcist and very expendable base troops. Battle Sisters are not terrible (very survivable for the price) but the humble bolter isn't exactly the terror of the battlefield compared to Mechanicus guns.

That and Mechanicus really appreciate an ally being able to bring some spare transports and Repressors are one of the best in the game. 75 points for AV 13, a 6++ save and a Heavy Flamer + Storm Bolter + Dozer Blade.
