Relatively new to 30k, I heard somewhere the D rule operates differently in 30k, is that still the case or is that from before the updates?

that was an optional rule from 6th where D was far more powerful

The optional D rule was made in the first books before 7th changed D. It doesn't appear in newer books, like the red ones.

Black Shields. I'm going for an aged ill kept force look.

I have another twenty assembled that need to be primed and basecoated.

Can you tell that the value of this bronze is different from warlock bronze?

The top dollop has FIFTEEN drops of Magnus the Red tint in it. I had though that the purple being a complimentary color and all would be a smudge more noticeable.

Eldar psychic cats. The Imperium has them as well.
>>
>>51500193
Our neighbour had a fuckton of cats. He didn't sterilizer his cat and she had several litters, or whatever a kitten batch is called.
So cats were everywhere, and they'd sneak into the garage (open, protected by a metal gate) and pee nearby. Ugly smell.

So mother placed a poisoned sausage inside the garage, as such, not in the freeway but rather inside our property.

The cat sneak in, ate it, and died outside of it.

It was like one of those ANCAP gags...but it worked. Cats didn't sneak into our garage anymore, and we were piss-free.

>>51500192
>That's some DA/NL/IW level of paranoia.
Naaaaah. That's me on a regular day.
On a tense day I fucking look at all sides at once. You see, I played team fortress 2, and my paranoia meant spies would never backstab me, unless I was busy killing his team.
I would spycheck with a rocket launcher.

Also, yeah I like the IW.

>>
>>51500313
Why would you leave a garage open?

But yeah, not sterilising a cat that goes outside is being a poor owner.

>>
>>51500313
Try having a neighbour that doesn't sterilze her cat, letting it have a litter each year whilst having a dog yourself. I spend half a year battling fleas to keep them from eating my dog alive.

And then there's also the issue of the dog, despite being extremely friendly to people and other dogs, instantly goes into lethalit hunt and kill mode the instant he sees or smells an animal smaller than himself. Not in an agressive way, he just goes after it and when succesfully pouncing on the animal in question (duck, rabbit, rat, mouse, cat, you name it) just one bite to the neck and boom, instakill. Never managed to stop my dog from doing that, but thankfully as he got older he got too slow to catch most fleeing animals. However, you can guess what happend one time when the kittens were in my garden again and one didn't get away fast enough...
>>
>>51500585
That sounds great.
Sadly dogs smell bad, not to mention their peeing and pooping habits.
And cats have toxoplasmosis, which I think it's an incurable disease that makes you effeminated or something like that, I don't remember.
Too bad, cats look nice.

To keep animals and bugs away from your property including scorpions :^) use apple vinegar. Their heightened senses/stupid lung-lacking bodies make vinegar unbearable to them.

White Scars do falconry. Does any legion besides them and the Wolves keeps animals as pets/companions/hunting aids?

Like Sevatar's crows, I suppose? It's strange, I thought it would be the Raven Guard the one with crows.

Is it just me or do the traitor Primarchs mental conditions get really overlooked.

>Konrad Curze had visions of the Imperium falling to ruin since he first met the Emperor

>Perturabo constantly saw the Eye of Terror watching him since he was still young

I feel like when talking about these two Primarchs, these facts are mostly glossed over.
>>
How should I equip my NL tarts? Since they can sweep and run, I want them to be my assaulty shock troops, but I'm not sure if I should go ham on the Claws or add in a fist. Also, not sure what heavy weapon they'd want. They'll be deep striking, most likely if it matters.
>>
>>51501823
volkite and claws, use the talent for murder rule to blender sweep larger units.
>>
>>51501775
>are mostly glossed over.

Not really, they are so ingrained in their personas that you think they're not seen but they are their defining characteristics. Perturarbo is paranoid because the eye is constantly looking at him, therefore he sees any small slight as a complete offense and his grim tasks as being shoved into the dirt as others gain glory which in turn makes him force his legion to work at max efficiency at the cost of its humanity. Curze is always seeing people dying in gruesome ways and visions of dark futures to come and the only thing he knows is murder; Hungry? Murder, Justice? Murder, Dreams? Murder, His legion? Murder, Got a problem? Fucking murder, he's crippled because all his tools are lighting claws and he has all these problems that he cant fix with them and no one is willing to listen so he keeps being who he is, an insane murderer that just keeps going crazier.
>>
>>51501847

TFM on the bulk was definitely the idea, yea. So they all get Volkite or do I run some double claw?
>>
>>51501775
Iirc, Pert actually tried to speak with Ferrus about it, wondering if his own eyes could see it as well. Ferrus gave an uninterested grunt and left. Pert never spoke of it again.

>>51501931
So Curze is like that one guy chanting and raving about the end of the world, except he was right all along, yet hoped he would never be right in the first place?
>>
>>51501931
>Perturarbo is paranoid because the eye is constantly looking at him
Naaah. He just trusts no one, mainly because he barely trusts himself.

I do wonder about Curze's visions.
Imagine if he saw things as they were going to be.
If he saw Horus as a void.
If he saw the Emperor as a rotten skeleton.

It's a nice model, but to echo some of the gripes from last thread: "this isn't really very 30k."

In 40k as Black Dragons these would be fine, but the chapter simply doesn't exist at this point.
>>
>>51503590

Even in 40k, the Legs are pretty clearly a hint that this is either a Possessed marine, or a mutation worse then the Raven Guard Raptors.
>>
>>51501936
volkite/claw loses you 1A, but gives you effective shooting for drop turn that has the capability to inflict severe casualties and cause more wounds than the combi-bolters.
>>
>>51503590
Is "Your Dudes" not allowed anymore? They aren't the Black Dragons, they're just a group who had similar mutations done to them, whose geneseed may have survived and become the BDs later on, or maybe not.

At this point the Dragons were mostly just inspiration for it, a footnote at the end of the story for these guys.

See >>51498001 if you care to see my explanation.
>>
>>51503610
Agreed, but the Bad Dragons have a lot of lore regarding wolfen-style mutated dudes. It wouldn't trigger me quite as much in 40k.
>>
>>51503629

No-one would preserve the geneseed of anything that looked like >>51503514

They would burn it on sight, and be right to do so. A Black Dragon looks almost completely normal but for the spurs of bone. So you can bullshit that it's just a devilation of the geneseed. That looks like something that is an outright warping not just of the geneseed, but of the entire Marine's base genetic structure as well. The sort of thing that usually only happens to a Possessed Marine, or a Marine struck by a really nasty Xeno mutation. No-one sane would look at that and go 'yep, we should make more', unless it's Fabulous Bill.

As a traitor project to make supermarines, I'd buy it. As a loyalist project, no chance in hell.
>>

I don't know if anybody told you, but generally in 30k there's less freedom when it comes to doing your own version of marines. It is the historical version of 40k for a reason.

If you wanna go wild on 'Your Dudes', well 40k is designed around that. But your bruteforcing of this matter is like the perfect move to trigger as many 30k fans as possible. You might as well start playing a WW II historical wargame and make up your own regiment of traitor americans or something.

But they did. Or at least, the Black Dragons were not purged immediately when Wulfen-style mutations + Death Company attitudes developed.

>A traitor project to make supermarines

Well, that's the idea. Traitor Heretek gets desperate Salamander to hand over some geneseed and tries to pull a fast one. His creations didn't like him enough/saw through his bullshit and killed him.

This. So maybe stop pretending they're BDs to begin with?

Anons, why can't he use monstrous-looking Chymeriae? T5 Custodes look like impossibly big normal men, but that's due to the Emperor's hand.
Chymeriae are pretty much a failed experiment.

Corax' mutated birb-men would behave like Chymeriae.

You know the one thing that triggers me about anon's BD project? That he wants to use hairy calves for a reptile-named army. That's pretty much it.

BD anon, you gotta paint them the alternate Salamander colour. You know, the salamander-looking one.

the issue we have with it is your explanation doesn't make fucking sense. "Your Dudes" is a strong tradition and has a place, but when working with firmly established canon points it's generally regarded as the right thing to make sure that it is at least consistent (unless you wish to be called the second coming of CS Goto)

lets break down where things go to shit.

heretek is fine, salamanders being desperate is actually pretty ok too, this can be made slightly easier by using a garrison world reasonably far away from nocturne that is forced to self-recruit (as legion garrisons of sufficient size were allowed and equipped to do)

>Salamanders inform a nearby Auxilia commander of what has happened because they don't have the numbers to pursue
>auxilia find the now-blackshield Astartes
>rather than fighting back, the blackshield commander goes alone and unarmed to meet Lord Marshall

this is where things go wrong. No marine legion or garrison would breathe a word of that shit anywhere near a regular human.

alternate suggestion in keeping with established fluff: Fabulous Bill uses intermediary to get heretek to conduct experiments, provides a template for improvements (see deliverance lost ending) everything goes wrong as is expected. Garrison COmmander is defacto legion command because of failures in communication during the ruinstorm, and cannot bring himself to have them all executed. Determines the best course of action with thier low numbers is to equip them to fight as a low-strength assault-doctrine company, but orders that they must conceal legion ties as condition for their reprieve.

now it fits in setting, has the appropriate connections to fabulous bill, and it can be argued the heretek outpost is still intact for later rediscovery at <insert map pin here>

Kek.
You forget this is the universe where Alpharius successfully get to use One of Many on everyone except for soome of his brothers, and where good heretek Decima Invictus rolls along with cyber-psychic-zombie Morturg.

As long as the blackshield is properly disguised and the SA is oathboud (Saturnine Rams) or a mere equivalent (NL served with Oxitania's king-turned-Rogue Trader) then it could work.

How would you model a Chymeriae?
>>
>>51503830
Auxilia thing was just so I had some explanation for them winding up next to my planned SA army.

Maybe Legion garrison commander has fought alongside this guy and they've saved each other's lives, etc., so he may be the only one on-planet he'd actually trust with this? Or the SA meet the blackshields in a totally separate incident, not sure.

Including Fabius at once makes sense for the Cursed Founding but also seems even more Mary Sue. Having their Big Bad(tm) be a well-known and at-large character seems lame.
>>
>>51503951
Honestly the SA thing doesn't necessarily need to be so clear, as there are many circumstances that would make an auxilia army welcome the help of a group of marines, even if they looked like monsters.

I don't think fabulous bill makes them mary sue really, the list of people he's dicked with and dicked over in the heresy alone makes him third in line behind erebus and horus for "Best troll M31" so adding one more to the list doesn't exactly make them sues.
>>
>>51504009

Horus is 4th place there. Erebus and Kor are first and second, Bill is third. Lucius is 5th.

So after looking at the argument earlier in the thread, I'm wondering how"Your Dudes" is meant to work with Legions. You can't really go much further than these are"X legion", they're Loyalist or Traitor and "they like doing X".

With my Mechanicum, and their Milita and Cults allies, at least I can make my own organisation up, and toss in whatever units and conversion I think looks nice, but the Marines can't really do much other than add trinkets to their armour from what I see here.

1. First paint the shoulder medium green or medium blue (depends if you want it to match or contrast). I used kabalite green.
2. Do a cross hatch effect with black thinned down paint (use a pencil to get it even). Or use a really dark blue like incubi darkness.
3. Do the bottom V of each diamond with moot green. Allow a tiny bit of the black to show so it looks like their is shadow under the scale. Put a tiny dot of aver land sunset on the tip of the bottom V.
4. Wash it with watered down blue ink or glaze. I wiped the wash at the top away so the wash was dark at the bottom.
5. optional -use some gloss varnish on it afterward.

It's a bit tricky, but finding an unexplored area that is nevertheless hinted at in the lore is probably the best bet. If the naysayers come at you, you can always post the forgeworld quote that validates your army, for all the good it will do.

I think the models in this particular argument have elicited so much anger because of their association with the Black Dragons, a group explicitly not from the 30k timeline. No matter how much OP tries to assert that they are not BDs, the connection has been made.

Yeah, I can see how that'd make sense. I guess it's more historical, too, so "standard" Legion armies have a lot more depth to them than "generic Ultramarines/Dark Angels successor chapter number 50,000".

If I ever wanted to do Marines I'd probably have them as DarkMech recreations of that weird zombie incident on Xana II, lots of cybernetics and damaged armour in the Xana colours. Would probably use Blackshield rules, but that's because I like my special snowflake armies.

Yeah, when I was originally planning my Xana army it was going to have a Hellblade as my Lightning Fighter, but I decided to go more mad science. Working out the exact details now, since I have a week off soon, might actually be able to start work soon on that. Depends how long it takes me to magnetise my Knight.

The Zombie incident was during the Incursion in bk 6, while the Loyalists attacked and the Sons of Horus tried to agree to an alliance, all the presents they'd brought, dead Loyalists and Mechanicum bots from the Istvaan battles picked their dead selves off the floor and attacked the Xanatite forge-fanes. Took way more damage than usual, shouldn't be functional, all the usual zombie jazz.
Knights of House Malinax and the Taghmata Xana helped put them down, but it gave Scoria the chance to escape, and I suspect quite a lot of those wound up as his experiments or in Taghmata Scoria brass and red.

Eeeeh in my mind a krak missile fired by the most elite warriors of the IW is basically a one shot one kill on vehicles. Infantry is dealt with combi bolters. That means a basic squad can destroy 15 vehicles from a far before needing to reload.

Nah, at least their legion specific units are not that great. And they still need a little skill to play.

If you wanna win 90% of your game whilst lacking half a brain play Cybernetica. Monsterous creature spam, weapons that make coversaves useless, invulnerable saves and/or FnP so they hardly need cover themselves, fearless T4 troops for almost no points, and just in case you do take wounds it's easy to make a list that can heal 6 wounds each turn.
>>
>>51508041

Iron warriors unique RoW that allows their artillery to fire very accurately near their own infantry. It's very good because it lets you land your medusa/quad mortar shots wherever you want with some good infantry positioning.

The fore-ground craft is a Sokar, but you are right in that the Thunderhawk behind it has quite a different tail assembly from the standard version. Also, the front ramp looks different, but that could be a perspective visual trick.
>>
>>51508090
As far as I know no-one knows. Narration says it's unexplained, but I may well be wrong.

>>51508091

Bit exaggerated, heals 3 wounds tops, Thralls are T3, cover saves are only reduced (although although stuff like Thanatar robots can make them basically useless, true), robots have no FnP and shitty invulns in CC and you can't spam robots too much or you can't score for shit.

It's damn strong, but easy to play around if you don't try to win a straight slugging match in the open. If you kill the scoring and the Cortex Control you are then basically playing against a shitty AI, and can wrap them up easily.
>>
>>51508156
There'll be non or less-mutated dudes in this force too.

But the Inquisition DID know about the bone sharpening and such. The Inquisitor that tried to purge them fell to Chaos and then nobody really gave a shit anymore (especially because a very influential Canoness helped the BDs out).

But I play alpha Legion and I don't think they'd bling out like some of the other legions, the closer to stock power armour the easier to disguise it as needed.

problem is that short descriptions make the fight meaningless.

hit hit hit, dodge, hit hit hit, dodge, block is not interesting. Visual mediums can convey a lot of information in a single second, but writing can't do that. Unless it's spilled out, we can't tell if the moves in combat have an effect.

Same anon to whom you're responding here.
Some argue friendship is a form of love. As in, making bonds implies a relationship without that necessarily meaning holding free chainaxes and kissing under a tree. You know, no homo.

Khârn was friends with Argel Tal. Both were essentially the highest ranking officers of their legions and their primarchs knew they were friends, even if they only fought together in three compliances. I mean, even Angron was aware.

The WE gladiator pits were akin to the IW's Dodekatheon or the WB's lodges.

And in the same story, Khârn comments how he'll somewhat regret killing Sigismund and Amit on Terra, when the time comes.

Also this.
Mid duel, Lotara requests both captains presence on the bridge, since the assault on Calth is about to begin.

Got some stuff done today.
And a model I bought came in as well.
Is there anyway to tell if a painted model is a recast? I bought it on an auction and I got it for basically for shipping alone.

is the sokar stormbird ever worth fielding? like where would it shine?

I want to get a large centerpiece model, but not sure which. I do like the sokar.

it's too expensive to be practical.

Just get one of those super heavy tanks if you want to be practical about it.

Thunderhawk gunship is fine too if you are set on a flying model for centerpiece

>where would it shine?
Without wanting to seem factious, in Apocalypse games, basically.

It's best to wait a bit if you want a Thunderhawk. Because it seems likely that there's either going to be a new Resin Thunderhawk, or (more wishlisty) a plastic one.

I am disappointed that none of the fuckhueg transports are actually good for transporting armies on the table.

I'm very sad about the mastadon

Stormlord. the answer is always Stormlord. also the plastic kit only costs a little over $100 and won't make you feel too shitty if FW comes out with something better between a Spartan and a Mastodon.

someone make a new thread. I don't want to do it.

It is said that some old monks on a mountain somewhere spend up to 20 years smithing one bread.

However, this is the best you're getting from me >>51511744

Vengeful Spirit's battle scenes were a huge letdown. For a planetwide battle on a massive scale, they were a huge letdown.

And if you want to spend Mastodon-level money, get a Falchion, get Stormlord casemate bits off someone who built a different variant, and kitbash them into a Legion-style Stormlord.

even if it never moves, the dual projected void shields will protect a large amount of other things, the dreadstrikes are capable of doing significant damage to armor and along with the lascannons can be fired at multiple independent targets.

It's actually more likely to make the points back using the D-strike upgrade, and is a significantly better transport than the thunderhawk. Even without D-weapon it's only 115 more than a flare-shielded thawk.

Because I like hurting myself, I re-read Angel Exterminatus recently and just started Outcast Dead again, and the wanking off he does of the IW and Pert in particular is even more noticeable in re-reading.
My esteem for IW fans who don't like his portrayal has risen after this re-reading, considering he makes them so Dindu at literally every opportunity.

Forrix was born on Olympia, I'm positive. In Angel Exterminatus Toramino and Harkor were plotting to kill Kroeger and Forrix and they mentioned how only people of high born noble descent should be Warsmiths. They also mentioned how Forrix was descended from kings of one of the 5 great city states of Olympia.

Should I start custodes or get a second knight (cerastus)?

Tax return is burning a hole in my pocket and I think I've realized my astartes armies are complete
