Flawed - Chapter's gene-seed is flawed and sets them apart from their progenitor

So it's an Ultramarines successor that sees Uriel ventris as an example to follow?
>>
>>51494163
Did we ever establish who these guys don't like, in particular? You know, for Faith in Suspicion?
>>
>>51494163
Hmm. Okay, so the "Honor of the Emperor", "Distant Rule", "Medieval" and "Wasteland" parts are kind of giving me a "Crusaders in the Holy Land" vibe. A decent "direction" might be a shithole planet where the planet's youth who succeed in their pilgrimages to Catholic-flavored-Astartes-Mecca are accepted into their ranks? Dunno, just spitballing.
>>
>>51494494
...though, thinkin' about it, we could just go full-on Muslim Marines. Why not? The Templars already have "Crusade flavor" locked down.
>>
>>51494494
The crusaders vibe fits with being siege warriors. >>51493339

>>51494444
Not to my knowledge. Ecclesiarchy? Mechanicum? Inquisition? Who else could we have cause to beef with, lads?
>>
>>51494549
. . . actually yeah. It's a niche I don't think has been filled by an Astartes chapter yet. Might be work it.

>>
>>51494550

Heh, so, what, these guys are gonna be reverse Crusaders? Striking out from the Space Holy Land to kill the infidel heretics in Space Europe?
>>
What should we name them?
>>
>Space Saracens
>Don't like a specific institution
So we don't like the Ecclesiarchy, they're not teaching the Proper Word of the Emperor handed down by the Prophet Guilliman
>>
>>51494835
Should they have some chaplain that they rally around, who is the foundation of their teachings, solidifying the chapter morally?
>>
>>51494835
Oh my god A++

>>51494671
Yeah man! Or maybe we're fortification-based because we've fortified all our planets against the orks we were send to fend off, and the crusades in this instance are actually just WAAAAGHs.

>>51494801
Star Dervishes? Warriors of the Faith?
>>
>>51494550
>Ecclesiarchy

Always makes for fun times. If you're going full Allahu Akbar, then they also worship the God-Emperor as divine; the Ecclesiarchy is just the WRONG way of worshiping him.
>>
>>51494864
Maybe it's not a chaplain, but the teachings of their heroic captain, because muslims don't necessarily into an ordained priesthood? Mohammad was a prophet and general both remember.
>>
>>51494864
No, our 4th company captain who is a glorious martyr in the name of the Prophet as demonstrated by his deeds
>inb4 he blew himself up to stop the Daemon prince

Swords of Ishmael? (Fun with biblical genealogy!)
>>
>>51494895
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQoJvI8XUa0
>>
Ok, so I like Star Dervishes,

We should also call either our Captains or our Chaplains "Clerics" and have a council of them choose our chapter master
>>
>>51494944
Any reason we couldn't have chaplains and captains be merged as an institution?
>>
>>51495036
We're codex-compliant I thought
>>
>>51495049
The letter, but not the spirit of it? Maybe our Clerics could be the really holders of power and authority in the chapter and the captains are more like administrative functionaries.
>>
>>51495101

Having the warleader and the spiritual leader be separate makes sense. The council of clerics can simply be a powerful voice in chapter governance.
>>
>>51495101
The issue is that our 4th captain is a hero of the chapter.

It would be nice and fluffy to do away with the codex-compliant roll and combine Chaplains and Captains, but idk how other anons feel about it
>>
>>51495137
Wouldn't it be better just to change the hero?
>>
>>51495131
Maybe the clerics evaluate who's worthy to be a captain, and the chapter master is elected by a consultation of all marines in the chapter?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shura
>>
>>51495176
I thought we already had that the chapter master was elected by the Clerical Council, because if so I would say the true power of the chapter should by the Master of Sanctity and the Chapter master would be a figurehead leader
>>
>>51495202
Could work either way, like the battle brothers appoint their own clerics from the wisest and most holy among them (with the approval of the other clerics, of course).
>>

Muslim_Brotherhood_Logo.png
53KB, 186x181px
>>51495202
Maybe the Chapter Master is essentially the "head general", but the Master of Sancticity holds the most clout on the Chapter Council?
>>51494935
I like this one. Maybe the Chapter insignia could be the crossed swords of the Muslim Brotherhood, with a skull or a star or something?
>>
>>51495320
Star makes the most sense if we're going with Star Dervishes. Also surprisingly underutilised in a game about space marines.
>>
>>51495320
>>51495347
Either name works for me, I like the logo idea
>>
>>51495347
Sorry, I misread which post that guy was replying to. Swords of Ishmael works great for me, too. Maybe we could use the term Dervish or some other Islamic warrior term for a specialised unit within the chapter?

>mfw we have a codex-violatingly large rabble of scouts and serfs supporting us called the mujahideen
>>
>>51495448
>Oversized chapter
>maintains large pool of skirmish-fighter scouts with little-to-no oversight from chapter authority.

I shiggy diggy anon, minimum 2 companies of Mujahideen it is. High mortality rates among them and survivors inducted into the chapter
>>
>>51495202
I like this vibe, I think if we're going for this sort of inspo we should be rigidly dogmatic to the letter of the codex but have our own weird twist on the spirit of it that sets us apart from the infidels
>>
>>51495486
They fight with almost suicidal bravery because if they prove themselves worthy their bodies and souls will be infused with the Emperor's physical blessing and they will rise to the ranks of his angels.
>>
>>51495486
maybe also if there's a vague distinction between the actual scouts and the mobs of serfs and faithful zealots who just kinda follow the chapter around

Maybe we can 'grant them passage' aboard our vessels as 'pilgrims' and not-so-subtly deploy them en masse against the enemy
>>
>>51495320

For either name, I like this minus the writing, change the emblem to a four-pointed star.
>>
>>51495509
>>51495537
>>51495556
And so it takes shape. Good suggestions all around

I want to go with green, black and white (with red for vets, or something), but I'm not sure about the best arrangement.
>>
What if we just pick and choose the parts of the Codex we like?

Like we could justify the Mujahideen as part of the codex sections on scouting and emphasize the idea of "loyalty" found in the codex as spiritual and religious
>>
>>51495809
>>51495820
Maybe try reversing the black/green sections? What does that look like?
>>
>>51495839
>Islam came into being after Mohammed "clarified" the Torah/Bible
What if the titular Ishmael was a "prophet" who "clarified" the Codex? So they're adherent to the Codex Ishmael, not the Codex Astartes.
Naturally, this causes friction with the Ultramarines.
>>
>>51495809
This is baller, and pretty much what I was thinking (green, white, black). Maybe the amount of black on their armour signifies their sanctity until they're wearing full black chaplain gear?
>>
>>51495809
>>51495820
The Swords of Fish, is a superior name.
>>
>>51495914
Oh I love this
>>
>>51495820
The white helmets I dig because it sort of evokes chaplains.
>>
>>51495839
>>51495914

They're codex compliant, they're just not Imperial Cult compliant. This may manifest in some of their stranger practices and behaviors (like their chaplaincy effectively electing their leadership), but on the surface they look, act, and organize like a Space Marine chapter.

This is a really good idea. It needs a deeper green like Dark Angels instead of a neon, but the general scheme and progression is gold.
>>
>>51495991
As though to represent their sanctification, yes. Maybe start with the outer surfaces of their armour first (greaves, pauldrons) because they're broad, flat spaces on which can be inscribed white-on-black writing?
>>
>>51496031
Pretty much every surface on a Space Marine is broad and flat, though, and I'd want to keep at least one pauldron green for the Chapter symbol.

Now, what shall our Dervishes be? Obviously the name evokes ritual dancers whirling around, and the closest thing I can think of to that is a specialised close assault company, but that might be a little bit too close to a BA successor's death company (especially if we're going with black=holy)

>>
>>51497741
That's pretty great, but I think the white skull helm is a really iconic part of the chaplain aesthetic and is a pervasive reminder of mortality, so I wouldn't readily part from it.
