There is a good chance the sculpts for these existed before AoS was ever released, considering the time gap between them being made and being released.

An Eavy Metal painter said they often see things two years, or a year and a half, before the public, so it's not like last month someone at a board meeting said "WE NEED TO MAKE MORE NOT-SPACE MARINES".

There probably are cases where a model will jump the queue a bit, but we are still talking a period of like, half a year, minimum.

The shitty thing is. I can bet they're probably one of the more popular armies at the moment, simply by virtue of being one of the only ones getting new things and having all the beginners' sets catering to them. So new players play Stormcast since Stormcast are marketed as the "beginners' army" and since they seem to be the only ones getting shiny new sets, so Stormcast sales rise, so GW releases more Stormcast. Meanwhile other armies are neglected, so sales drop for them, so GW ignores them more.

Stormcast have almost 2-3x more models than all but two other Order armies, most Chaos armies, and all Death and Destruction armies. It's fucking ridiculous.

This despite the fact they're generic as hell, bulky, and all look the same so its hard to tell them apart because they're all just "big bulky golden guys with stern metal faces".

It's more about the SCE started with nothing and are getting models within the last 2 years, whereas all other factions started with models from long before.

However, after this small wave of release, I feel SCE won't get anything new for a while, because they did say they were planning a 'complete' battletome, meaning the range is good for now. We are starting to see the return of army books and codexes.

You need to kill Settra but he has 8 wounds, 3+ save, can benefit from cover, 5+ ward, and 6+ death save, and he can transfer 5 wounds to each Tomb Herald (which has a 6+ death save as well). It takes a lot of mortal wounds to kill Settra and Stormfiends are the best way to get that amount of MW because WLC are inconsistent.

but about the stormcasts I'm not finding anything suggesting he did influence their original concept: he has worked on celestant, paladins and prosecutors, all derivative concepts of the basic liberator he didn't work on as far as his list goes.

he also comments that each sculpt is made in the style he is commissioned to adhere to with what sound as relatively strict limits.

I honestly am having doubts it was him that influenced the design away from blanche's, but if you have more details or sources about this I'd like to hear them.

John blanche is not artistic director anymore for health reasons, More likely they say to some underling "hey man come up with a rough silhouette that's a bit like a space marine in fantasy" and he does something, then they send it to Blanche to flesh out a rough style (baroque roman angels.) then it gets taken back for trimming.

I did like playing defensive brick with my SC when AoS started and maybe some really long-ranged firepower would make that a little more viable once more.
Also, I used to play brets, so I know what it's like to never get any love from GW. I feel for all the neglected factions, but at the same time I cannot stop but be happy that my guys get more stuff.

I doubt it. They're simple for the same reason space marines are. As the vanilla starter faction they should be easy to paint. With marines, as long as you can get an even coat over the body, not go outside the lines on the trim and do the eye lenses and boltgun in appropriate colours you'll have something of tabletop quality.

Similarly, with Stormcast so long as you do metallic all over and an even coat on the shields/pauldrons it will look alright. Very good for kids and noobs.

the problem is that, unlike with space marines, the few decisions that shaped the simplistic, basic, design just don't work:
from the uniformly invariable face mask to the extreme bulk and the horizontally flat pauldrons.
these elements are distorted analogs to the marine, failing in bringing the same effect to the table:
the marine's helmet is minimalist in the imitation of a human skull and as such allowed numerous alternative designs; the marine, as much as the original design goes, is intended to be just slightly "larger than life", evoking extreme, but still realistic proportions; the pauldrons develop mainly vertically and are used to frame the figure solidly.
with the stormcast you get already ridiculous proportions getting even more accentuated by the horizontal lines on their shoulders topped by a helmet that fail at either give it character or the simplicity of a uniform.

the sigmarines could have easily run on the hype for gritty fantasy like dark souls, witcher and the reinassance for the appreciation of history inspired designs for their basic look, but it seems the turn around to a new ceo looking to get in touch with the world came too late.

I posted a shot of my witch elves I was painting and had it pointed out to me that they resembled something called "blood elves" from WOW.

I looked a little deeper into the situation and was able to determine that the warhammer witch elves (who have a blood centric lore background) predated the WOW game by over 10 years. Since I've never played WOW before I was shocked at how blatantly they had copied the witch elves from games workshop.

You can see similar outdated models throughout the other armies as well. Stormcast does NOT need new models. Age of Sigmar would become a hell of a lot more popular if every army had models that were as nice as the new kits today.

So, death player here- After rounding out my collection, I've felt like starting up a new army, and I think I've decided on Freeguilds- with a twist. I want to make my army entirely out of constructs, with the theming that they are the construct armies of a wizard. As such, I am looking for mini's that would fit the tone of the army. So far, I've found a god-send in the form of Relic's Britinan range, which features a lot of doll like golems wielding fire arms and long swords, making them perfect for the Freeguild. I find the Freeguild guard and other assorted infantry are some of the worst looking humans that GW has ever made. I also think they are fairly over priced, seeing as I could simply buy some historical gunners or such.

I mean, I guess, but that's partially the paintjob, and partially the design. They're sorta like toy soldiers given actual weapons. Besides, GW has cartoony stuff like the Freeguild mini's and Skeleton's.

Hey dudes.

I was asking about seraphon in the last thread. After grabbing the battle tome I'm loving the look of the army. Tell me why the battleforce is so bad, what should I start with? I'm liking saurus guard, teradons and bastilodons. Are they bad?

I just want Settra to come back, atop a gigantic obsidian scorpion construct, and kick some ass with a construct army behind him. Is that so much to ask?

The seraphon turned out to be a balanced force in AoS, good against most things, with a bonus against chaos daemons. You have something for every task. Warriors to be fodder, gum up an objective, etc.
The Guards, when used right, arent necessarily there to deal wounds, they are put there to hold the line and not die. Bastilidon with laser is always good, A slann to buff, Kroak to kill. Heroes that buff and kill. Just read what they do and see for yourself. Also, if you are getting started, buy 2 of the start collectings if you are on budget, as it offers a Carnosaur/Troglodon, and with the 2 boxes you'd have enough warriors and cavalry to get the job done until you expand.
