How does one get into /tg/ when you have nobody to /tg/ with?
roll20 or similar

Isn't roll20 a poor substitute for actually being there in person?
It appears that there are a lot of anons here that never rolled dice or touched a rulebook. Just make shit up about fantasy and invent some "that guy" stories and you'll fit in.

A place called 1d4chan
Or just lurk in a general
meetup
Find your local FLGS and meet new people. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere there is bound to be a store somewhere nearby.
You can't.

Roll20 was mentioned. The Gamefinder thread may be a better bet depending on your tolerance for 4chan users versus """"normies.""""
If you're worried about not knowing how the game works, well, if you're playing an older system, look and see if it has any solo modules. These are like gamebooks (Lone Wolf, Fighting Fantasy, etc) that use a real RPG's rules; you play through a story and by the time you're done, you're familiar enough with the mechanics to join a game without needing any instruction. Sadly, these seem to have become passe in the early 90s, about the time of the death of CYOA and gamebooks.
>Local communities
google 'locationx tabletop role playing' and you'll probably find something.
>FLGS (Friendly local games store)
Go down and find out what goes down. Even if RPGs aren't played in shop someone there will know some people who do.
>Roll20.
It's much harder to be picky as a player for this. You'll get some shit games you want to drop after the first session. If you're patient, you might get a decent few sessions out of one. This is the last resort, almost as bad as gamefinder general on /tg/.

Make sure you haven't showered in at least a month
Go to your local game store.
Leer at the people playing games.
Fill your arms with YuGiOh cards.
Walk up and tell them they're playing it wrong.
When they tell you to fuck off, tell them you didn't want to play with them anyways.
Steal someone's mini off the table when they're not looking
Walk out drinking a Yoo-Hoo

Talk to your friends. If they have similar interests to you they might be willing to give it a try

Get online.
Yes you are highly likely to get shitters on your first try, but keep trying and you'll get something good.

Shrug, it functions fine. Some things are more clunky and slow, some are more easier and faster.
