Any level of "realism" is fine
Although I lean towards the simulationist side
Bump on my part.
I want to know too.

This anon recommends some good games, though my group and I have found them to be a bit slow to teach and play. Also, all of these games tend to be plane simulators without any support for pilot based progression, so if you are looking for an rpg tabletop experience, I can't recommend them.
Ironically Warbirds does the opposite, but does make for fast-paced dogfighting as well as letting your pilot breathe as a character in the air or on the ground. It would be the lowest in the "realism" rating in terms of gameplay, but the fastest to run/keep the tension up in, so it's my go-to for a fighter jet rpg with the modern supplement.
If you are just looking for tabletop games, then I'll recommend the others anon did before, and add Phantom Deluxe, though not as modern/future since Vietnam was nearly half a century ago. For other tabletop plane games, Wings of Glory/War is fantastic, though that is not modern/near future air combat.
Have to add that if you have tabletop simulator on pc that there's a nifty little wargame with support called Hawx that combines the x-wing miniatures system hex edition with modern planes and works rather smoothly.

I like both Palladium's system of maneuvers, as well as the vehicle combat in Aliens RPG by Leading Edge.
