Mine grow with age, until they are 1000 years old, they are human-sized, but pointy, then they keep growing, they are the only way to determine their age at first glance.

I love big, floppy, weeaboo elf ears but they're pretty impractical, aren't they? They stick out a lot so it's easy to hurt them and you can't really wear a helm over them. Ears are made of flexible cartilage, as long as there is enough room in the helmet there shouldn't be an issue with wearing a helmet over them. Especially not if the elves in question can manipulate ear position.

The 'high' elves, as they style themselves, are the nobility of the Elven cities. They select for long ears, as well as flexibility and an artful curve at the tip. They think properly sized ears are a sign of beauty.

Something can have different phenotypes but not enough genotype differences to be considered a subspecies. Humans have different racial phenotypes but no (living) subspecies. Ears trend from 'human except for a point' right up to 6" long knife ears, and longer on the high elves.
The general attitude to other races is that elves are superior, merely because they're elves. Nobody is sure why this is, because elves refuse to explain it. It's an inherent belief.
Below the other races are the half-elves. Calling someone a 'half-breed' is a deadly insult to their parentage, and half-elves are generally treated as an underclass in elven lands.

Despite all this, elves are big on astronomy and astrology. They are the leading experts on the heavens, and have the best records. They're not the best record-keepers, however; THAT honour goes to the dwarves, but the dwarves don't concern themselves with the sky, beyond constructing canopies of stone-clad metal to block it out from the vicinity of their fortresses.

Elves are also powerful arcane magic users. The most powerful mages, living and historical, have been elves. This is not because elves have any inherent aptitude to it, but more that wizards only grow more powerful with age, and elves live a LONG time.

Elves are also prized slaves among humans for their longevity and magical aptitude, and also for the attractiveness of their women.
Amongst the orcs, elves are valued as concubines, males and females both. Orcs refuse to recognise that the Elven race has genders anyway, and so their process of creating half-orc-half-elves tends to be an extended process that consumes many an elven slave. They're rare for a reason.
Half-orc-half-elf adults are kept as status symbols by warlords, for the most part. Coddled and kept cloistered away, by orc standards.
By human standards, it's still a fairly brutal life, but that's orcs for you and this is about elves.

I just added elves into my setting, and I'm not sure what I'm going to do about the ears. I basically went back and made them Tolkien exiles from immortal lands, but I also incorporated mortality to represent their corruption by worldly desires, and made them bankers because the idea of them being exiles who still held on to their customs and faiths reminded me of Das Juden.

But their physical appearances, and their clothing styles, I have no idea what I want to do.

I have no idea about Non, but that skin tone(and darker) is definitely naturally achievable by many Japanese. Just look at some of their athletes that don't mind tanning.

Among girls, though, light skin is prized and that has yet to go away so after junior and senior high when most of them stop doing sports many usually lose their tans and try to keep their skin light which is a fucking shame cause many look great with tans.

Sorta? Generalizations and all that, but their media is much less prudish than other countries, so a lot of things aren't as taboo. I don't know about lewd as fuck, as that will depend on the person, but most of the folks I've ended up talking to about it are pretty open about sex and other things in the right context. Like you're saying, you're just expected to behave and not stand out so as not to bother people around you.

There could definitely be racial elements I'm unaware of for some people, but it's usually more simple and less racist and more... classist? Throughout many Asian countries lighter skin is valued and darker skin is looked down upon because people with money can afford to stay in-doors and live luxuriously and people that can't have to bake outside in the sun.

I think it was similar pre-industrial revolution in the west as well, with many nobles valuing light skin? Once everyone started working in-doors in factories and offices, we saw a shift where a good tan could be a sign of affluence because you have the time to go out and do leisure activities outdoors while others slave away at their cubicles.

For Japanese men, some of the later is true. If you see a properly besuited Japanese salaryman with a nice tan, he's likely either upper management, very athletic, or doesn't mind announcing to others that he spends a lot of time outdoors while others are working.

That part never caught on for women, with pale skin remaining the ideal. If you're past 25 you should really be married and concentrating on raising your kids and running your family than running around selfishly doing things to get a tan. Even for the people that doesn't apply to, Japan loves it when everyone is acting the same, so people follow a general trend and white skin is prized. It's an established thing, so it makes it easy for media and markets to appeal to, so they promote it with image and products and the idea gets stronger, and that's why you'll see housewives outside in the summer wearing long sleeves, and gloves, and carrying an umbrella on a sunny day.

There was the ganguro trend back in the 90s that went against the whole 'white is beauty' thing while bucking other Japanese traditions, but due to the latter it was never going to really catch on with the country and was pretty much crushed when artists and the media started promoting the bihaku style.

Nowadays you have gyaru fashion that often features girls with tans but it's viewed as childish by many Japanese because the women should be focusing on work or family by that age and not selfish things like fun and fashion. Pop stars and others can pull it off because they're rich and famous and the Japanese are proud of their culture and those that promote it; they're much less tolerant when it's the girl from down the street.

All of these things combine to maintain the 'light skin is best' status quo.

I just re-watched that for the first time in years yesterday. Was surprised to learn that the principals on the animation side went on to make up part of the starting core of Studio Ghibli.

Elrond looks more traditionally like what we'd think of as an elf, but then there's that weird star halo thing he's got.

Bakshi didn't make the Hobbit animated film, anon, it was Rankin/Bass with the Japanese animation studio Topcraft(they also did The Last Unicorn , Thudercats, Nausicaa, and other awesome stuff). I don't know if he was involved at all since his stuff was basically competing with them.

There are various things 'wrong' with the story--the wood elves being one of the biggest--but I still prefer it to that mess of Jackson's and his two lady friends.

I can actually find piercings attractive if they're done tastefully; keep it simple, don't do it anyplace where it's going to be the focus of the attention like the eyebrow, and don't just mix and match it. With elf ears, I like to see them have some sort of symmetry to it, like a row of gemmed studs or something similar.

Of course, the problem is that most artists who draw piercings tend to go the "let's throw as much metal on as we possibly can" route, which I just find ugly.

In short, it can be attractive when done right, but in general it's something I can do without more often than not.

Gyaru was just a way of following western trends and bucking Jap social norms. Traditional Jap standards of beauty do involve porcelain-pale skin, which is why tans were a part of it, but not a defining aspect of gyaru.
