One of the oldest games in history, post pics, winning strategies or just story post some of your best games.
Whatever as long as it's chess related.
so I'd like to get better at chess.
What are some good beginner books?
how useful are those exercises on chess apps?
Joining a club is how I learned, I was in one back in school and the teacher was really helpful.

Hey look i suck at chess and somebody posted a game
lets look at it so i can git gud
.....what is that jumbled fucking mess
first move d4? King indian? Bd3? WTF

It's expressed in Algebraic notation. Picture a chessboard; the bottom left square from where the white player sits is a1. As you go up towards the black pieces, the numbers increase; a2, a3, a4, a5, a6, etc. As you go left to right, the letters go down the alphabet; a1, b1, c1, d1, et, etc. By the letter and number combination, you now have a location for every square on the chessboard.
Pointing out a square means that a piece or a pawn moved there. If there is no capital letter prefix, it indicates a pawn move. If there is, you have a list as follows
N=Knight
B=Bishop
R=Rook
Q=Queen
K=King.
So say, Kd6 means that someone moved their king do the d6 square, which is two squares in front of where the black queen starts.
It takes a bit of getting used to, but learning some form of chess notation is almost necessary to really analyze a game, since it gives you a tool to record what happened.

If you want an easy way to view the game by notation, just use a PGN viewer like the one on chess.com. You can copy/paste that anon's stuff he posted.

First game was ridiculous OP. Lots of tense play on both of your backlines. You would've been toast if your pawn structure in the first game wasn't gucci.
Op here
Anyone know any good apps so I can play on the go?
>>51276173
Actually, looking at it now in the morning, I think I was toast.
After 25. Ng5, instead of playing Rbb2, if he plays Qf2+, I think I'm busted.
I can't ignore it, of course, as he has both Qxg2# and Qxf1# if I retreat the king, taking with the rook loses:
26 Rxf2, Rb1+
27 Rf1, Bd4+
And that's that.

So you're saying that you suck.
YOU SUCK!
