>He suggests we hit up his LGS, she needs an RPG mini anyway
>Happen to be chatting about Vermintide as we enter
>Reedy dude at the opposite end of the store bounds across the floor
>Compresses his body to place himself between us, pulling his arms in like he's trying to catch a closing elevator
>Smells like peppermint and ass
>"Excuse me madam, I overheard you talking about Warhammer! Pray tell, what faction do you play?"
>"I don't have the money to buy the models so I just play the video games. Please let me browse the Reaper stuff."
>He visibly deflates and mutters something about girls pretending to like Warhammer
>Returns to the empty table where he's been sitting, stares into space angrily

>Two guys building an Imperial Knight talking at obscene volume about how Only War "is the least canon 40k RPG" because of female guardsmen
>"Yeah but that lady Mordian is a solid 10, she's a great fap if you're looking for 40k-related content," one posits
>"I like the Commissar," counters the other, "she's got breeding hips so you know she can do her REAL duty."

What the fuck is wrong with you people, /tg/?

Also, LGS Horror Stories thread, I guess
>>
>>51269363
>Wrong with you people.
>Implying we're the LGS crowd.

As a general rule those who game at the LGS are the rejects from other game groups, when my friends and I started tabletop gaming we made the mistake to think that the LGS was a good place to start. Usually you just go their out of necessity, if you're friends with the staff and game there after hours or want to acquire stories for /tg/.
>>
>>51269534
>go there out of necessity.
>>
>>51269534
>So much of a reject they don't leave house to go to LGS
>>
>>51269363
Sound like real alpha males if you ask me; you seem more like a blue pilled cuck.
>>
>>51269534

That comment about being friends with the staff is spot on. I've been to a ton of LGS that were ludicrously unwelcoming, and you kind of get the impression that they're less a viable business and more a seekrit clubhouse for the owner and a small group of neckbeards.
>>
>>51269534
>want to acquire stories for /tg/.
what the fuck kind of masochist are you?
>I'll spend an entire evening, maybe more, deliberately interacting with awful people in the hopes they'll say or do something cringey so I can greentext it on /tg/ and give like 5 anons a sensible chuckle before it's pushed off by bait threads.

you don't set out to meet the guy who never brushes his teeth and so asserts his bleeding gums are the product of kool aid staining every time you see him. You don't look for that guy who really wants you to play his heartbreaker system until you meet at his place to play and have a near fatal allergic reaction to the black mold in his game room caused by flood damage 3 years ago that he literally never repaired and just waited for the water to leave, then turned on a box fan to dry out. You don't seek out a 5 hour combat session of a soft touch DM who doesn't realize you're trying to sacrifice your character to save the party, so he actively makes the ancient dragon you're holding off make tactical mistakes over and over doing 2-4 damage to itself every round while you do literally no damage because of DR.

Stories happen organically, you can't go out in search of one.
>>
>>51269544
For paints etc. Postage costs are high in my country.
>>51269645
No, we play at my house (or did until the DM gets back from Europe)
>>
>>51269646

You got me, I'm quaking in my boots from inadequacy at two fatasses inviting us to an ERP.
>>
>>51269766

I would say "sounds like you have some stories" but you just told them.
>>
>>51269363
>"Pray tell, what faction do you play?"
>the next two people you see are openly screaming about girls ruining gaming
>one of them inviting a rando with a girl next to him to a tabletop game after eye contact alone

bait is subtle, idiot, revise this shit.
>>
>>51269766
I don't, I learned my lesson well from the 'totally not ERP, it's just mature' pathfinder game which introduced me to TTRPGs.
>>51269740
Yeah that and cheaper goods seems to be the motivator I felt from the staff most the time as well.
>>
>>51269766
You went out and just got stuck on a guy's gums in an LGS? Was that the only thing wrong with him?

That seems like a really specific thing to just call out a stranger over.
>>
>>51269821

Had it happened subtly, I would have described it as such.
>>
>>51269853
Presumably the fact that if he doesn't brush it also would smell vile.
>>
>>51269853
no, the guy actually has many, many things wrong with him. He was deeply unsanitary and kind of offensively dim witted. He was a roommate of an acquaintance of mine, and was actually the second worst person in that house. (the worst was a chainsmoking primadonna dickhead who I'm told by the friend was a brutal powergamer at the local Camarilla shit, but I've never done vampire larp)

the most unnerving thing about the unsanitary guy was that he was an assistant manager at a local Papa Johns, and knowing how filthy he was and that he made their fucking pizzas was deeply unsettling.

I beg to differ. Pic related. Who says RPG's don't teach valuable life lessons...
>>
>>51269889
I'm not buying it, man. If it was a breath issue, it would start as one. The guy wouldn't defend himself with "kool aid stains" if his mouth smelled like sin, because looks wouldn't be what he's being attacked for. He'd think of something else or start getting mints.

Anon went straight after this guy's gums.

>>51269910
Oh, okay, that puts it in better perspective.

>>51269879
Oh gee, guess you got me there. Must be true after all.
Thanks for turning your fake story around like that. Did the rest of the LGS clap when you turned down that guy who literally skipped over to you just to talk in Old English?

I'm just disappointed this thread isn't about really good horror game sessions.

>5 hour combat session of a soft touch DM who doesn't realize you're trying to sacrifice your character to save the party

Once the party was safe why didn't you just book it like the rest of the party?
>>
>>51269999
it involved caving in a wall or something. I remember I specifically had to actually fight until I died, and the GM wouldn't stop pulling his punches because he was afraid of being a "killer DM" snce he'd had one of those and hated it

>Legacy Tournie at LGS for FNM

>Plays B/W Cleric tribal deck
>Regulars include two smaller landwhales, all play 40K (Chaos and Dark Eldar but both have a huge Tau force and they love to cheese)
>1 gangly stoner who smells awful at all times and hasn't cut his hair in four years
>two chain smokers, one is a decent guy, the other is a walking anger factory
>1 unsupervised game store kid that never grew up, lives at home and sucks mom and dad dry (Who has also been caught trying to steal, openly belligerent and threatens everyone with mommy and daddys money; Buys his way into everything, even throws gifts at people just to make them like him)
>Hambeast goes 6/1, holds out in long game, grinds people down with kill spells and huge life gain
>Hambeast actually decent guy, cracks jokes, knows a lot of oldhammer (Fantasy and 40K), trying to get back into current everything since the recession hit
>Lesser landwhales upset because their mono green and red decks get stomped
>Stoner watching from a distance heckling the new guy "Testing the waters. Fatty needs a thick skin if he wants to hang in my store."
>Keeps calling him noob, scrub, fatass, openly pushes and punches him while he isn't looking to get his attention, picks up hambeasts army case and pretends to try walking out of the store.
>Hambeast turns to stoner with a firm "Stop it now."
>Parent Leech tries to play bro card with stoner. "Hey look lard ass you didn't have to come here. If you can't handle it get out."
>Hambeast looks to him, asks them to stop.
>Lesser landwhales suddenly step up too.
>"YOU'RE STACKING YOUR DECK!" "ONE TRICK PONY!" Stoner tries to push past him and goes for his deck.
>Hambeast turns out to have been legit sumo at one point.
>Arm thrusts Stoner off his feet and onto the table behind him.
>Owner finally had enough, bans hambeast for fighting.

I think that I've had enough with this store too, sadly it's the only one in my city...
>>
>>51270524
Report the owner and store to Wizards. Get their sanction pulled.

If you're not going to play there you might as well take them down with you.
>>
>>51270638
Good idea. I still feel bad for that new guy though. This shit has been going on for too long at this store. These dicks keep chasing out new blood or starting fights. The chain smokers went out and hung with the dude for a few minutes. Seems like they've got his back if anything else happens. I just sat there and watched all of this. Fucking clerics from Onslaught took out my tooth and nail deck like it was a joke, the guy has my respect. Never seen his play style before and he could've helped bring in a lot of change for the better that we needed...

They know shit about 40k then. At least on Cadia every single person was required to join the Guard. Similarly on Catachan, no civvie would survive growing up there. Hell, for the longest time the only grenade launcher Catachan model was the woman.

With Imperial Guard I am willing to rule "male and female regiments from the same planet" until proven otherwise. I know there are some female-only regiments.

I would probably agree about Vostroyans though. I think it was specified in old fluff that it would be "firstborn son" that was given.
>>
>>51272514
While the firstborn Vostroya will always be recruited I believe it has happend that other daughters and sons would join up.

My texperience with different LGS were always great even though I used to be an wakward teen and then a shy adult.

Anyone else feel bad for girls working at GW/model shops? I woudn't want to be the subject of attention for every autist walking in.
>>
>>51272703
>I woudn't want to be the subject of attention for every autist walking in.
Then the idea would be to not work there.
It's the same as chicks working at videogame stores, if getting bothered by greasy, socially inept nerdos is that unpleasant, get another job.

It really should be common sense, so no, I don't feel bad for them.
>>
>>51270372
Leave and never come back. You don't belong on 4chan, go back to your hugbox circlejerk with a scoring system.
>>
>>51272746
it's not their fault that people are inconsiderate though, plenty of 'nerdos' at least have social graces. As for those with mental disorders it's clearly unfair to leave them in the care of shop workers when they should have at least a friend or guardian with them. Also if they enjoy the hobby and need a job it shouldn't be prohibitive.

>>
>>51272703
Yeah. Far too many entitled guys who don't get that the girl isn't allowed to turn them down and walk off because its her job to smile and nod. At the end of the day she's another retail worker, and they end up (sometimes unknowingly) taking advantage of that

>inb4 NO SHE REALLY LIKES ME from said dudes.
>>
>>51272828
>it's not their fault that people are inconsiderate though
No, but it's common knowledge that that's who they'll be dealing with.
You can't complain about a situation you actively put yourself into.

>As for those with mental disorders it's clearly unfair to leave them in the care of shop workers when they should have at least a friend or guardian with them
That's unfortunate and shows a lack of care from said carer/guardian/friend, but it's still something that comes as part of the job.

It's going to happen, I know, they should know it, there's no stopping it.
There's no reason to feel bad for people who put themselves in situations they don't enjoy.

>Also if they enjoy the hobby and need a job it shouldn't be prohibitive.
Well, what are they going to do?
Ban most of their customers to protect some cashier's feelings?
There are plenty of other retail jobs that don't involve putting yourself in that situation, probably with better pay.
>>
As far as I'm aware the real horror stories tend to be about GW hobby stores and the autists who work there. Outside of those and occasional nightmare shit, it's mostly general annoyance at LGS.

I generally had some really annoying workers at an LGS bother me while I browsed their books. Very obviously coming over while I looked through mags on a low shelf to make sure I wasn't pocketing their shitty mouse guard minis under the guise of reading historical wargaming magazines. Like coming up behind me to ask me what I'm reading about and going on and on about how you should only be playing Carthage because they were the best of any game and getting hostile when I explained how Hannibal's infatuation with elephants made him distinctly incompetent. Same guy ended up watching me and my friend with contempt the next day when we played card games and bought food all afternoon.

At one point in the store some dudes were talking to the one woman who worked there telling her about 'The Brick' greentext as if they had done it and didn't read about it on the interbutt, which is doubtful because they were 16 year olds.

I'm not even sure which is which here, personally i use Reddit for porn, news about certain comnunities and looking at cool pictures

I use 4chan for getting into arguments with random permavirgins and for weirder porn

I don't see why anyone would view either sites as anything more than fun little timewasters
>>
>>51273090
>We're all shit people talking about games, whatever site we're using
Equally good point.

What isn't a good point is advocating to subject yourself to a worse variety of shit just because.
>>
I never really understood the whole aversion to going to a LGS purely to play a system with strangers. I guess it's because I only play Wargames like Bolt Action and Drop Zone that I've never dealt with the real dregs. I've seen plenty huddled around tables playing 40k, magic or some other weeb card game but never interacted directly I mean I work a blue collar job and don't have any friends to play with so it's like my only option.

Now DnD is a whole other thing. I can't imagine doing a PUG for that.

Only time I've ever seen someone come close to insulting her is when some girls came into the store to get out of the rain and one of them said "I thought only boys liked this?"
Even then it really wasn't that bad and she didn't lose her cool at all. I went down there just recently for the Triumvirate release and we just chatted for a while about the new Celestine model.

No. Though it depends on the state and what the store specializes in. Stores that are almost solely card games are pretty awful while specialty stores (excluding GW but there are some exceptions) are generally pretty good.

Honestly, just hearing 'Friday Night Magic' is enough to give me a stroke. Rest of the week all the CCG players keep to themselves and don't cause any trouble beyond occasionally pestering other customers, but once Friday hits and enough people are in the store, all fucking hell breaks loose.

It's kind of like when you pass by a hen night, there's always one or more lasses shouting 'I'M SOOOO DRUNK' and making as huge a scene as possible for the sake of making a scene. Once the number of players is enough that you've got to raise your voice to be heard, there's always a bunch of sweaty pricks who begin deliberately shitting things up for no reason other than they can. Nothing quite ends the working week like Monster and Pringles thoroughly worked into every square-inch of carpet.

At least a couple of players seemed sincerely apologetic about what their mates did, mind you. They even came the next morning and offered to help clean up.

Needless to say I'm not welcome at that particular store anymore.

Yes but it's never going to be reciprocated any way but platonically because marines are chemically neutered by their enhancements and then brainwashed so thoroughly they can't even relate to humans properly.

Hell, during the Horus Heresy, the only way the Emperor's Children knew how to join in a Slaaneshi music instigated orgy was to start butchering the participants.

If Slaanesh can't make you horny, some skinny Cadian chick hasn't got a chance.

>>51273783
Entirely depends on the store owner. Out of the three near me, one of them is ass and it's entirely because of the owner and his store policies. One of them I haven't been to often enough to judge, but didn't have any noticeable terribleness. The third is the one I go to most of the time and the owner is probably the most accommodating dude I've ever met, and he's been in the business forever, but he also doesn't put up with dumb shit.
I find the main thing is whether the owner is willing to deal with assholes or not. Some won't because they're afraid of losing revenue, not realizing that the assholes are actively losing them revenue.

No I don't. If you're male, you should be thick skinned enough to cope with crude conversations without having a breakdown.

Women aren't socialised the same way, so most (but obviously not all) of them expect men to act more politely and limit obscene language when they're within earshot, which is fair enough. If you're a man and expect the same treatment, you're just being a little bitch.

There are people like the dude who walked up to a hippie couple and asked if they have tried training their baby with a clicker (like a dog, you know), and then proceeded to go full fedora at their New Age beliefs. Everybody in the room turned to see what the fuck they were yelling about.

Now I'm at that spot where I don't want to custom a place staffed by such blaggards but really would like to find a gaming group. That's an interesting mental picture.

So /pol/acks come into being because of the "redpill", and eventually spawn multiple new /pol/acks over a slow period of time.

It's a bit like folklore esque trolls. There can be multiple flavors of /pol/acks, some being the commie variety, others the Nazi kind, with your anarcho liberals in between.

Has /tg/ made any kind of home brew game based on 4chan?

That seems fair, since there's a whole variety of games to play, and the people here usually dip into other systems.

Are they completely independent? Do they have an online presence? It just confuses me that people would go to the effort of being assholes needlessly.

>>51280377
The best thing about this post is the fact that the two possible meanings are both believable for the average 4chan poster
>>
>>51280055
/pol/ are the hobgoblins. Purity-minded and dogmatic, they overcome their opponents in teeming numbers organised with the kind of efficiency that does not need any organisation.

/r9k/ are a type of troll that suffers from a chronic perception of loneliness and lacking worth. They prefer to dwell under remote bridges and demand people pay attention to them while occasionally abducting women they then don't understand what to do with.

/b/ are orcs. Chaotic, filthy and more than a bit perverse, they crawl in the dark places of the world and woe betides those fool enough to interest them.

/soc/ is drow central. A society of degenerate specimens ruled by its women who engage in self-humiliation for popularity, many females desire to rule and abuse those obliged to give praise to them while males often become wizards.

Most of the time the board-tribes fight amongst each other, therein to determine who gets to rule the spectral domain of Fu'ur-Djan. But sometimes a planeswalker of great skill arises to convince several groups they should assist each other, and nothing ever is quite as convincing as rumor of invasion from the neighbor realms - Dwii-tar, Radeeth and the Ebamu Worlds.

>>
>>51280521
Pretty solid starting point here.

Reminds me of an image showing the size of popularity/user base of things on the internet. I believe 4chan was an island or archipelago next to some other lands.

Perhaps the hobgoblins and orcs are the most aggressive, often leaving the 4chan island to attack other Internet lands.

Perhaps one day the island chain known as 4chan will be conquered by a charismatic warlord, or perhaps it'll be run by shadow corporations.

What you say makes sense and I may have been somewhat too soft on them there after all. I'll see what can be done about their nonsense. Thank you.

>>51280698
I'm imagining this stereotypical "evil army" gather. We see an endless formation of hobgoblins wearing armor styled vaguely after some fascist states' army uniforms. Banners bearing abstract geometric symbols fly in a blood-scented evening breeze where a settlement of paper gnomes (/po/) has been razed to the ground, its reigning lector (/lit/ wizard who memorises quotations instead of spells) laid into chains. The presence of the diminutive race was perceived as an insult to hobgoblin superiority.

Now one of the officers is being tried for lack of devotion in battle; pointing out how drawings of bears chasing hamburgers are not, and can never be, "an argument" (this term being of vital religious significance) he now thinks the whole raid was uncalled for. The rest, however, are not fooled; denouncing him as "Djay-Ideaf" ("infiltrator") they sage his thread, that meaning they bury him alive and disregard his noises. One of the shovellers points out how this pleases Frog God. One of the others then makes some sort of off-color joke about cane toads and suggests all the drow girls are sluts, which an orc merc agrees with, supposedly owning three of them.

The horde moves on, ever in search for the promised land of Ostrelia; a lone wood /x/ ranger descends from a nearby tree diagram. Seeing the destruction, he fires off a Sending to the bards of the radian/t g/uard and commences tracking, convinced that desolation of this style can only be the work of /biz/arromancy (a discipline of magic noone except him has ever heard about). Far to the East, a high tower in the distinctive architecture of the /an/imal peoples already heralds the next bloody clash - for between the five-star-posts, there's only the laughter of bloodthirsty astroturfers, and in the grim darkness of the hobby board there is only war.

I once during a game had some kid grab on of my jump pack models and run around the store making airplane noises. The child's guardian was nowhere to be seen.

These days the worst I really see is obnoxious mtg players thinking that they own the place. Once on a Saturday at the LGS there were two large scheduled events running simultaneously, leaving only one open table. Some unscheduled mtg players started raising a stink because neither the AoS cash tournament or the historical event vacated a table so the mtg could play cards without having to sit four to a table.

I hear from others all the time that even on RPG nights mtg players come in and harass pathfinder/D&D players.

I wish game stores could actually kick these people out, but mtg players are the bulk of sales almost universally everywhere.

Awesome of the store owner to actually sit down with a new player and show them the basics of mini painting.

His clientele however, is shit.

You do realize the reason they say "LEF-tenant" is because they adopted the word a long time ago, when "lieu" was "leuf"

>knowing Pathfinder is garbage

But it's not.
>>
>>51278850
That doesn't do anything to change the truth of the store owner's comment. He broke a retail rule there (not being a dick to customers, they are always right etc etc) but he was probably factually correct.

kek. I remember that story.

Hhahaha you are so full of shit. Your wife is probably a fat ugly hambeast and you have deluded yourself into thinking she's hot because the alternate is being chained to a she-demon the rest of your life.

Ever considered that it's because our hobbies are the dregs as far as hobbies go, at least as how mainstream society is concerned?

>Interested in 40k/Age of Sigmar after reading a horrible amount of novels
>Bring girlfriend cause I want to break the meme
>LGS is full, 2 guys playing, teens painting, a guy checking out merchandise, and an older man conversing with store owner.
> We start browsing, girlfriend is checking out merchandise and I am speaking with owner.
>notice that the lone guy is staring over at my girlfriends direction, turning his head like a dog.
>skinny, long haired tied in a bun, with camo pants and paracord bracelets on both wrists.
>realize he is miring.
>Dont think much of it because as soon as he got close and said something to her, she moves away to another spot.
>Every time he stilts over to her, I call her over to "show her something" and make sure i am between him and her.
>guy eventually leaves
>we pay for our shit and leave
>the guy is standing outside and almost talks to us, but instead gives a have mumble "hey are you guyswantingto...."
>because I am nice guy, i stop and turn around and ask him what he said.
>he just looks up.
>we get in the car and go.
When I asked her about it, she said the guy smelled like weed, and not the good kind. The kind that smells like it came straight out of a guys ass, unwrapped and ready to go, and he tried to get her to look at stuff with as becuase "she looked like she doesnt know what she is doing."
Look, you guys might disagree, but that shit was next level cringe for us.

>As soon as we get in everyone goes silent
>Silence
>Then all at once they pounce, grabbing my gurpsfriend and dragging her into a corner and raping her violently over and over like out of my favourite doujins
>Consider doing something but theres like 5000 of em and 1 of me and while I can handle like 50, 5000 is too much for my martial technique
>Pick up some chaos marines, pay for them, buy the patented and trademarked games workshop brushes and paints and glue
>Go home and jack off to the image of my girlfriend being raped by other men

>No. Though it depends on the state and what the store specializes in. Stores that are almost solely card games are pretty awful while specialty stores (excluding GW but there are some exceptions) are generally pretty good.

My local GW is quite nice, Manchester. Haven't had too many issues there, but then again I don't tend to play there :P

Look at that, you've just figured out the primary reason that most LGS go out of business.

They're not opened as a money-making venture like other small businesses, or run by someone who knows what they're doing. They're opened as a labor of love by someone who's always dreamed of spending all day playing Magic or talking about D&D for a living, and too often it turns into their personal gaming space.

>Legacy FNM
>BW Cleric Tribal able to go 6-1
That sounds fun as shit. Like, no joke, that sounds less like a "Legacy FNM" and more like 'everyone bring whatever' and sounds legitimately fun.

Which is precisely why the Brits intentionally mispronounce it. The official motto of the USA is "E Pluribus Unum"; the official motto of Great Britain is "Fuck the French"
>>
>>51273189
Mostly it's a vicious cycle. People think "I'm not gonna go play with the random losers hanging out at the shop- they're only there because no proper group would have them!". If everyone has that mentality, then yes, the only people at the shop are going to be the outcast losers nobody likes.
>>
>>51274238
>his cleric deck has some custom cards
The correct response to that is "Then go the fuck over there and play Pretend Magic with the wall, because we're playing Actual Magic here."
>>
>>51276912
Overly forgiving owners. There was one guy at my LGS who frequently forgot to shower before work and there was like a 3 foot sphere of miasma around him at all times. It'd usually take 3 or 4 such instances (and the complaints to the owner that followed) before he'd get chastised.
>>
>>51278877
Generally it's a mixture of "kept in business entirely on the backs of a few people who blow literal thousands of dollars a month at the shop" and "they're still in business CURRENTLY".

I've lived in towns where a game shop would close because they'd finally pissed off enough people, then some 20-somethings from the regular crowd would buy the shop together and change the name and swear it'd be so much better, then run it into the ground inside of 2 years. Repeat.
