What kits are good for getting mass number of power axes for normal marines? If not power axes, epsilon axes?

Alright, fine, Moritats can loose Lone Killer, but isn't that just a wordy way of saying that they aren't scoring?

Dreadwing is mentioned as using high tech tonks so the compulsory heavy support fits them better IMO

Well, I decided to make a Mechanicum Genetor army, probably using Reductor rules and mixing in some Militia levy swarms and maybe Cybernetica. Modelled as genetic and/or frankenstinian cyborg monstrosities, of course. Virus shells, biological cyber-occularis squid things, Crypt Ghoul levy swarms. Going to be cool, once I come up with a paint scheme.

Any good fluff about the mad scientists? Or the Reductor, neither seem to have much screentime. Read the stuff about Decima, that's about it.

The Eagles can't be wounded on anything better than 3+, regardless of any special rules it has (TOTALLY applies to Destroyer Weapons).

It's not an improved version, just different, hence "b". The main idea of it is "stirring up a hornet's nest".

Phosphex shells are simply bombs shot from launchers, and we will get the D-cannon Vindicators eventually.

Going away with the Lone Killer means they can join other types of squads so as to saturate more units with rad/counter-attack. A side effect is they may benefit from blessings etc., but you'll never get to field more than one Moritat and Librarian.

There are those Vindicators with Vortex shells, but yeah, maybe a mandatory HS tank should be put in there.

Nor are Destroyers, another compulsory slot is there to offset the benefit of the list.

I hit the character limit, in the following post I considered reducing grenades/missiles to 12/24" range, and the no Allies and no Fortifications should go without saying. (TL) Grenade Launchers are mentioned in the Stasis Shells entry, so it's a good indicator of another piece of wargear either a unit or a rite will get.

I can’t see Predators getting transport capacity (did they ever have any). There’s a popular rite of war that makes them troops, for one thing. And a turret takes a lot of room in a tank; the fluff explanation would defy physics. Also, getting rid of the side sponsons would give you a Razorback (but with a bigger, more space-hogging turret) and those deliberately don’t exist yet. It’s bad enough that Rhinos can take a pintle-mounted heavy weapon without penalty.

At the moment the army list only includes a Contemptor-Cortus. But, in the same way that there’s a Contemptor-Mortis and a normal (boxnought) Mortis, FW could add other-shaped Cortus dreads in the future. “Cortus” just means that someone fixed up a damaged dreadnought to a lower standard than original, and somehow it’s ended up more aggressive.

Generally you don't want to charge your veterans into things against which the power axes would be needed. Swords are ok however to brutalize power armoured blobs even after taking some casualties.

They did and IA books even acknowledge this, though explain it that the transport space was often used to store extra ammo, ergo no transport capacity today. But that would mean you could have troop transport capacity with the regular dakkapred, just don't bring so much ammo along for the ride. The other variants, I suppose, would have that space taken up by plasma reactors, melta tanks, etc.

Spartans have a transport capacity of 25, not just 20. Just saying, you seem to be using up all your points.

Planning out a Mechanicum army to start when my workload drops off in a few weeks. Thing is, the armies at my local store (The ones I actually want to play against, anyway) are NL, EC and DG. Seems the first two would be screwed, since they can't scare me out of combat and sweep me, and I was slow and tough anyway, so their fancy fast swordplay won't really change much. The last might screw me with lots of poison and heavy weapons, and a teleporting ID invincible ninja.

How balanced is 30k? Will it be a fair fight regardless, or is it kind of a rock-paper-scissors thing?

In the actual Betrayal at Calth game? No. Against 30k Marines in a regular fight? Technically yes. Trying to have a fight that is even remotely setting-appropriate? Not even close.

30k can 'technically' be played against 40k, but there are often disparities in power levels at low points (30k tends to get screwed) and at higher points (30k tends to screw others). If you're just playing a casual match against a friend with no interest in keeping it fluffy or anything, you're fine. But from a setting standpoint, it's far from 'cool' (Eldar and Orks are appropriate, while Necrons are a technicality)

There are two red books for Astartes:
Legiones Astartes: Age of Darkness Army List (the generic list), and
Legiones Astartes: Age of Darkness Legions (special rules/units for each legion)

"Age of Darkness" means it's the most current. The previous version said "Crusade", I think. (The Crusade Imperialis Army List book covering Solar Auxilia, Cults & Militia, and Knights hasn't been updated so it still has "Crusade" in the title)

The generic Astartes book is actually a little newer than the Legions book and contains some extra legion-specific Rites of War from HH Book 6 in a section near the end.

I'm not sure it's a legal list - Pride of the Legion requires that a majority of units have the Legiones Astartes special rule, which basically means infantry. You have too many dreadnoughts and tanks. Also not enough anti-tank for really big games.

Mechanicum will usually rape infantry heavy marines. So your average BaC kiddy will get annoyed by mechanicum. If they have a more mechanized approach, it should be pretty even.

Just don't cheese it with Reductor. Other than that, 30k is pretty well balanced.

I think this is a bit of a slubby topic, but are partially black Imperial Fists fluffy?

I saw a really neat color scheme somewhere that has most of the armor black, but pauldrons the pauldrons and helmet remain yellow. Actually, I've seen the same thing but with silver instead.

Is this a thing if I'm starting a Templar-themed army? I hope to God, because I suck at yellow. Anybody have a good guide for that?

The silver scheme was out of use by the Heresy, but the black+yellow scheme is real.

Probably better off starting with a black primer and building up to the yellow. That won't be too easy, but base paints have improved the last 10 years. You'll live.

In modelling terms, that follows, but in practical in-universe terms, even if the space marine genetic modification and conditioning made all marines ambidextrous, it's kind of odd to put your weapon in what was the natural "off-hand" of 90% of space marines before they became space marines.

Though if we may call this "fridge brilliance", it's the Cataphractii being in-universe too clunky for the swap in arms to make any difference to melee weapon efficiency, whereas for ranged weapons, being able to shoot with your "main hand" makes more of a difference, and guns are what you'd naturally replace if you had to give up one of your weapons for the protection of a shield.

My feeling is it's a bit soft (for want of a better term) for playing at 3k. Up at that points level people will normally be bringing out the biggest guns and flashiest toys, and I'm not sure your list can really stand up to that sort of thing.

Also, I'm not entirely convinced about units with 15" range guns being in the backfield.

Yeah, I get what you mean. I ran the numbers and a Primarch deathstar or some similar smashfucker can fuck me up bad, I truly don't have the capability to down them other than back-to-back FotL from my tac squads or concentrated volkite, which even then won't do much.

However the dudes at my LGS are chill as fuck, and are all really big into 30k. If I say it's my first time with power armor I'm sure they'll understand and either play a more average list, give tips, or rape me nicely. Either way winning is second to modeling

Progress on my jetpack Palatine Blades. Far from completion, just got some of the base coats on to see if I like the color placements. I've also decided to give them all beakie helmets, to give them a predatory bird aesthetic.

IW... they were painting hazard stripes over their entire armor but were attacked before they could apply the yellow. Or they've just been working around sooty equipment too long. Or they were rusting in a particularly corrosive environment and the only primer they could find was black. During WWII, planes used a yellow-green zinc chromate primer, tanks used a brown-red primer (steel used in buildings still does), but tank gun barrels used a semi-gloss dark gray or black heat-resistant primer. Say it's that.

EC is the hardest. I think wearing black as a shameful punishment is more likely than anything deliberate.

AL often sneak around like ninjas. Simple as that. Or they're pretending to be Dark Angels (loyalists pretending to be traitors pretending to be traitors pretending to be loyalists).

DG... again, not too easy because if they aren't using standard schemes they're probably not going to paint their armor at all. I'd say their paint or armor surface was affected by whatever odd chemical they were playing with.

Your list is so slow that it's only going to have a chance if certain missions are played. I don't see it working without a few Dreadclaws and Kharbydises, including for the Leviathans.

Well it pretty much gives your infantry a 5+++ in the open, which means it's boosting the regular power armoured infantryman.
Not to mention frags go from Str3 to S5.
Also frag missiles, which could be a nic place for your compulsory Siege Breaker.

In a lower pts list, say 1500-2000, would predators or a dererdeo be a better option? We tend to play 2v2 or 3v3 heavy footslogging lists, so scorpius' see a lot of play. With that in mind for the future I'm turning towards anti tank more.
