not especially, unless you're a huge LotR fan. Models are generally pretty low-quality and blobby, and the rules are pretty simple and luck-based.
It's fine if you just want a game where you can throw dice around over some beers and not really worry about strategy or plans, though.

I will echo this sentiment.

Independent Tournament scene is thriving in the UK if thats your thing too. Should be one every two weeks or so.

Had FF released this game, it would have come with pre-painted mono posed solid-sculpts with fixed "special" measure-sticks and custom FF dice set.... And it would have made a BLAST! It would probably be up there with X-Wing.

As it happens, its now released by GW, on a market thats pretty damn slim to be frank. And its released not just as a game, but as a full time hobby. A lot of focus of this game is based on you and your friends creating whole segments of the movie to enjoy a story in a somewhat advanced game (comparing with regular board games here folks...).

So if your in to the whole idea of creating stunning terrain that makes your scenarios come alive, and painting models, you came to the right place!

It's a skirmish game, so it plays well with a few boxes of inftry and some heroes. Too many minis and the game takes a lot of time.

I like the game and the miniatures, it's a good time to be a lotr hobbit player since forgeworld are doing stuff now. New rules for the hobbit was released in december iirc.

I am so fucking hyped for the ram riders.

I'd say it's good, but since it is not pushed by Gw (not anymore at least) and since it may not be the average game where spike players can spam stuff and do cheese lists, you probably won't find too many people playing it around you. So careful if you decide to invest in it

The game is fine on a skirmish level.
It grind to a screeching halt once battles get too large, which is probably why GW pretty much dropped it.

at least where i live, this game is dead. Empty. I bought into it last year, alongside x-wing. Nobody played hobbit. X-wing was fn of a bit, and then some guys showed up with BS god combos on their ships that must have cost like $800 in cards and a lot of people quit. The X-wing table is usually empty now. In the time since the 40k population here has probably tripled, and its been going strong for several years.

Ignore this idiot. The rules are extremely tight and fluid. The game is very strategic forcing you to think 2,3,4 turns ahead due to how the priority phase works. And even then due to Heroic Actions, your opponent can have a chance to counter you, forcing you to think carefully at all times. The game is also extremely well balanced.

How can you say the models are low quality? Most of the range is amazing looking. Actual 28mm realistic scale that looks good.
