I assume that the world designers know better than that. Time implies time control, or time travel.
And then everything falls apart at the seams. Especially when PCs are involved. They'll create a paradox faster than you can say "you are your own grandfather" just to see what happens when they do.

Time only goes forward. That's important.

Eh, I don't think it's necessary to CONTROL time, but lots of cultures have had god(desse)s of time, just like they would assign a god to any other major metaphysical concept. Fate, etc, plays in here, and there are a couple of gods here and there that come close with domains like destiny, I suppose. Still, surely there are interesting ways to bring in ideas about the stewardship of time, etc, without having to get into time travel?

In my game, what my player believe to be a lovecraftian abomination is really a young but powerful time elemental spirit who got exiled from her home plane by her family, and she's now trying to get home. By killng a fuckton of people and opening a rift in time, obviously.

She's the closer thing to a time god my setting has.

In our setting the time god is a comet, always on a set schedule.

That's what my time god is for. You take a dip in the timestream, and the waters will be turning red. It's generally portrayed as a shark, an asocial predator which won't be persuaded by any human arguments. It doesn't talk. It doesn't care about your reasons. It's not unintelligent, nor is it incomprehensible, but it doesn't act as a human.

Those who "worship" it often just want to see how far they can fuck with time before they lose an arm, or agree with the role the shark plays in maintaining the natural order. In the rare circumstances that someone is permitted to fuck with time, it keeps a close watch on them. If you wanted to cause a paradox, you're first going to have to incapacitate the god.

That's kind of how I imagined mine, as well. He hates things like liches and the undead because he sees them as trying to halt or reverse the flow of time and cheat on the amount of time he allocated them.

Well, the shark doesn't give a shit about the moral implications of immortality. It just keeps things ordered. It's technically a part of a group of other gods like that, who maintain the various laws of reality. One is in charge of magical contract law and enforcing it, and is one main reason why these kind of things, including the various arcane symbols, hold any kind of binding power for spirits, demons, or whatnot.
