If I think I can take an advantage, I'll play sharp. If I think it's just better to go straight to endgame, I can do that too. It also depends on the player I'm playing against. If he has no idea on how to play the opening, I can safely assume he's not that good, and I won't trade pieces off the board so I can pull a tactic to get considerable advantage.

Going to my second long time control tournament this weekend (90 +30).
Rated around ~1250 from my last one.

Just play. At a 1250ish player, you're not going to win, so play your games as best you can, write down the moves, and analyze them later.
