How do you handle combat with large numbers mooks (pic related: kobolds)?
Specifically for AD&D and its kin
Treat them as a single "mob" enemy.
Health represents their numbers and with it, attack power also goes down.

Wait why would attack power go *down*?

You should probably ask in the OSR thread, but whatever.
Check those reaction rolls, they may not attack in the first place. If they're hostile, they're an obstacle to be circumvented, not plowed through. If you can't get around them, run away -- you may have to toss some oil or caltrops, and maybe bar some doors to escape.
If all else fails, set up a defensive line, preferably in a narrow hallway if you don't have a decent set of hirelings with spears to hold a larger room, and hope to fend them off long enough for their morale to break.

Because they're getting fewer.
They gang up on players while their numbers are up and thus deal more damage.
They can also attack as many times per turn as they have numbers, obviously.

I imagine Anon is referring to a system like how the Horde rules in the 40k RPGs work
A large group of enemies is represented as a single statline, with a Magnitude score that acts like HP, and represents how many enemies are there.
One of the things that makes Hordes so dangerous is that the higher the Magnitude, the more attacks the Horde makes, and the more damage each hit does.

Running enemies in that manner in AD&D/Basic/OD&D is probably going to result in a TPK, though. I mean, that's likely with a large group of enemies anyway, but without positioning and the resulting ability to block off and/or bottleneck them you might as well kiss the PCs goodbye.

Fighting-Men make one attack per minute (round) against each weak* foes, up to and attack for each of their hit-dice.
You skip over that rule somehow? It comes up pretty often.
*less than 1 HD in systems where level 1 Fighting-Men have 1 HD
*1 HD or less in systems where level 1 Fighting-Men have more than 1 HD

He's right OP.
The rule is present up to 2e.
