Hey remember that time two first founding chapters got their asses handed to them by the Tau? And these are two of the fastest and mobile chapters available. If they can barely keep up with the Tau elite who can? Baring in mind the Tau already know about the codex astartes and can outrange the best chapters.
What would a Space Marine chapter dedicated to fighting Tau look like?

You do realize that was just Tau wank, right, and no matter what answer anyone provides, Tau will still win. Oh, I didn't realize you were a retard, my bad.

Space based chapter built around heavy armour and long range fighting.
>>51144368
Pulse rifle > Space Marine armour.
Teleporter heavy close combat space chapter
Or one reliant on infiltration and attacking soft targets, avoiding direct confrontations whenever possible.
Honestly, the Tau are the one alien species where the Space Marines trade very poorly.
Nope.

>Implying the Tau can survive an encounter with the Deathwatch, especially Chaplain Vigilant.
This is now a Deathwatch tread. Post xeno hating marines to purge this Tau filth.

>tfw a single squad of tau fire-warriors is canonically able to go against a squad of Deathwatch.

So Eldar could just sodomize them?

I see Raven Guard, which other 1st Founding one was it?
I'm not surprised the Raven Guard lost, they play the same game as the Tau, and while they do specialise in it, Marines as a whole are not optimised for it. Playing the enemies' game is a sure way to lose
To beat the Tau you want to get in close, use close combat, and have the right sort of gear to rip apart their suits - heavy Close Combat specialists and jetpack/teleporter-favouring marines would do the job well I think.
Get the BA or DA, they'll do the job. Maybe the Iron Hands - they can probably weather the storm.
The tau also suck in space, so anyone with a good fleet would help.

>Ap 5 vs 3+ armor
Pulse rifles aren't even superior to ork armour.
>>51144781
White Scars, which you would think would be the best suited chapter to deal with races like the Tau
>>51144740
...I can't think of any fluff where Tau beat Eldar, or even fight Eldar.
They got absolutely fucked by Dark Eldar though.
>>51144795
Not really, their hit-and-run tactics are again too similar to the Tau's, and there's not enough "hit" in it (save maybe grav-weapons on bikes)
>>51144309
The tau are the perfect race which is why they're fucking shit.
