Lads I need some tips.

Just played my first game out of the new box. I was the Orcs and I got hammered 3 - 1.

What are some good strategy's for Orcs? I find it hard to keep his catchers out of my half and when the ball is deep in his half it's almost impossible to get it back.

Spend your defensive half stopping them from scoring. Box them in. Bash the shit out of them. You don't need to score just make sure they don't. When it's your turn to be offensive form a cage around the ball (make an x shape with the carrier in the middle). Slowly advance until you score and win 1-0.

Impact! Miniatures do a "Sarcos" Croc team which I have sat in the cupboard unloved. Very cheap in resin for a full roster and extras, affordable in metal but there's a few doing more regular lizard teams.

so the league at my LGS is kicking off today (pun intended) and I'm running a Chaos team.

my division looks like this:
2 orc teams (1 veteran player, 1 newbie)
2 skaven teams (2 newbie players)
2 chaos teams (1 veteran player, me as a newbie)
1 human team (newbie player)
1 norse team (veteran player)

I do not have much experience with the game, and I'm aware Chaos teams have it rough at the start, but I'm determined to make it work - and by that I mean, to visit death and ruination on the opposing teams.

Dwarfs aren't necessarily boring,they are slow,grindy and they generally don't make those crazy plays like running the whole field in a turn with a long pass because the opponent left a small hole. They are fun in their own way,but they are the embodiment of what is "wrong" with BB played perfectly, ie no risk taken just walking and 2d blocking. No special moments and no crazy 3-3 games.

The first block in your team is the most important skill in the game. You need to be able to blitz with block. After the first the other level ups can be something else,but you would want to have at least 2 blocks as soon as possible. Guard is nice,even though,as the other anons said,you have no problem getting 2d blocks with some guard you can make your opponent's life miserable in trying to get them himself. You definitely need two block beastmen and MB on at least one of them. On the warriors you have some more freedom,but block is a very good choice,I too like getting my first guard early on because it really changes how you play the game and MB on a warrior too can be very good. But block is like the most responsible least interesting choice. Also try and get tackle somewhere if you get there,possibly on a beastman with block.

Who here excited for BlitzMania?

The kick off date for the international Blitzmania Blood Bowl League has just been announced.

The 4th of February is the date you’re working towards, so you have just under a month to get those teams painted* and brush up on those tactical plays.

The Blitzmania league is a fully world-wide event, set to be hosted in over 1,000 independant locations across the world, so you should never be too far from a home stadium.

You don’t have to play in store though – you are more than welcome to play at home or in a club, and report your results afterwards.

Finally, the High Blood Bowl Referee Council, after discussion with the priests of Nuffle, have unfurled a new FAQ document. The intent is to make sure rules disputes are easily dealt with, so teams can get back to the important stuff like horrendous fouls and bone-crunching blocks.

On a Vampire team is it worth starting with extra Thralls (so you've got 12+ players in total) to keep numbers up during the game for when the vamps inevitably go crazy and start eating everyone, or is it better to just stick with 11 players, risk playing with fewer players as the match goes on to potentially get "free" expendable thralls in the form of journeymen for future games? Been primarily playing just one-off games with my friends and short resurrection tournaments at my FLGS, so not really had to put much thought towards the money/inducement side of things.

Lizard teams with like 2 saurus can fit the "stunty" profile in NAF tournaments or something like that. Additionally their lineman is stunty. But they definitely are more an exception rather than rule.

How should I setup a TV1000 Necromantic team with all the positional except the flash golem?

I was thinking three zombies in the middle of the line of scrimmage, a wight and a zombie in the sideline on the line of scrimmage with a werewolf near them (obviously not in the sideline), with the ghouls further behind, to catch the ball/try to harass the ball carrier if he's able to pass throw

As for Zombies, they're pretty slow, so I wouldn't put them far away from being useful either.

The offense gets to set up in reaction to you. So by putting more men on the LoS, you aren't actually making it tougher for them to block your line down, but you are making it tougher for you to react to the kick and where on the field they start focusing their drive, because you need to do a few blocks before you fan start moving the thus you left on the line.

That's not to say it's a completely idiotic move, you may find it's a legitimate, if risky, plan as you gain experience with the game. But early on it's definitely bad because you are assuredly doing it without the knowledge of how it's going to hamper your defense in the rest of the drive.

I'm trash at this game and can't beat high Str teams as DElves. Every time I think I've broken through their defensive line, my breakaways get injured. I can screen them fine and stop their touchdowns, but cannot for the life of me get past them in my offensive drives.

Dark Elves have the hardest time out of all the elves against bash teams. You can pretend you're a passing team on offense and flood their backfield while a faster piece hangs out in the back with the ball (preferably if you build your runner into a pseudo passer). Or alternatively hand off/pass straight away and try to break through on turn one and build a loose cage with your runner in the middle and rely on your dump off.
