I want to start getting into painting miniatures. Would this be ok to start with? Any tips or reccomendations appreciated

Sure. But hand brushwork is generally more important. Although an airbrush will be handy for basecoating and some neat effects you're going to need to learn how to handle a traditional brush too.

Bump. I want to get into warhammer eventually but right now I already have a bunch of infinity minis. Id rather start off airbrushing if I can

Cool thanks for the tips. I actually already started buying some supplies for traditional painting, but after reading a thread about painting infinity minis yesterday it sounded like it was easier to spray them.

We can't stop you from blowing paint onto model, but... don't. It's the wrong tool for the job. If you already have an airbrush lying around you can wring some use out of it, but as a beginner you have no reason whatsoever to buy one.
Hell, by reducing the amount of brush control you get it can easily end up holding your progress back. And fuck dealing with clogging, thinning large enough amounts to transfer tot he airbrush, cleaning out between colours, and so on all the bloody time. There a whole lot mroe fiddling and maintenance to airbrush painting.
I'm sure there are a few guys out there who could paint a glorious mini with just airbrushing. For a common mortal though it's all about hand brushing, with the airbrush occasionally helping out a bit on the side. Starting on the airbrush avoids the fundamentals, and strips you of the most useful tools available.
Good fucking luck drybrushing or applying a wash properly with one as well.

Haha thanks for the reply. I guess I will hold off on trying to airbrush and just see what i can do with a normal brush first
