They do. I've noticed that they actually quietly edit rules/spelling errors when they reprint books, it's usually just so minor that no one would notice. Especially since the (pirated) digital copies will probably never get updated.

The only thing I've noticed in recent years (and only because it's a minor thing that pissed me off) is they fixed the Militarum Tempestus warlord trait that mentioned "units in the same platoon" to "units in the same detachment" so it could actually function.

Those quiet fixes just never get mentioned because who would ever buy two codexes, or, why would people who pirate books ever buy the physical copy. And the FAQs aren't comprehensive or consistently updated.

Glazes aren't shiny. They're really thin paints for tinting and blending.

Thinner paints that let a basecoat show through better

Usually used for basing. It's a type of paint really good for drybrushing because it pretty much never runs.

First list.

The general plan is Khan w/ Command Squad

Then Tacticals/ Razors for mobile objectives/ troops.

Devastators move around popping out of their razorback then move back in and razorback moves back into possible cover.

Bike Squad is just mobile grav guns.

Any comments would be appreciated.

I can deal with shit fluff so long as it doesn't kill off a faction entirely. Community engagement is so much more important. As is money-saving bundles.

That said, who in the world would by a Battlegroup Hammerblow? Either you already have so many guard that you don't need that many new tanks, or your just starting guard and you don't want to spend $800 on a faction you might not like!

Just because everyone is posting shitty lists they'll never actually play. Would this be tournament viable? Also considering switching the DP for another Sorcerer and a unit of Melta Chosen in Rhino.
>>

They're even easier to take out than a squad of Gretchin.
>>
>>51116035

>Would this be tournament viable?

No. Tournaments generally have painting rules and by the time you finish painting almost 300 models to tabletop standards it will literally be the year 40k
>>
>>51115954
>Tau

Riptide is 20 extra points. Ion accelerator is another 20 extra points atop that. Limit of one per army outside apocalypse.

Super heavy suits no longer exist.

Markerlights now reduce cover saves by 1 for 1 markerlight counter instead of ignoring it for 2.

That should fix most of the stupidity.
>>
>>51115954
>Space Marines
Nerf/remove Grav. Remove Skyhammer, remove free transports, crack down on the more bullshit AoD powers and nerf Smashfucker, though I don't know how to do the last bit.
>Eldar
Make most of everything more expensive. Remove free shit from the Guardian Battlehosts but add a different buff to compromise. The Warithknight in particular could stand to cost 100 more points.
>Tau
Make Riptides cost more, remove the bullshit formations that allow Riptide spam and tone down on suitspam in general. Genuine Farsignt players may suffer but sucks to be them.
>Daemons
Revert Pink Horrors, change up the Grimoire to not do what it already does.
>>
>>51116108
A fix to suit spam may just be to have the Farsight Crisis troops require 3 suits minimum, but also be restricted to burst cannons. Still allows a battle suit only army, but the durable mobile troops will at least still be at S 5 AP 5 guns.
>>
>>51116011

Remove grav or remove grav amps and make relentless and snp not work on grav as well as make vehicles immune to grav. Also need to remove Angels of Death psychic powers.

Plasma guns don't do shit to Riptides. Several of us posted the math required for it in 2012/early 2013 for various weapons and it universally took several times the amount of guns you can fit in a realistic 1850 army to kill a single Riptide. Like 15 dark lances, 115+ splinter shots, etc.

So unless you have four fucking command squads good luck killing a 3++ FnP Riptide which costs less than a single command squad to begin with

Remove formations. All of them. I'm serious, think about it:

What incentives do the implementation of formations give players? Either the rules for them are bad, in which case the formation is not used and they might as well not exist, or the rules are good - often so insanely good, that armies are built around them to the exclusion of other options.

Players chasing better formations with increasingly more obscenely good rules that grant thousands of points worth of free upgrades, ridiculous rerolls and save improvements, etc., means that armies start to look the same and players have to escalate their own lists to offer a fair fight at the table (by adopting formations themselves).

This is called a "false choice" - yes, you can choose not to use formations, but then you also choose a far less capable force that will get rolled by any opponent out there that does use a formation, leaving no fun for you.

Formations are one of the biggest missteps GW has made in recent memory. They've got to go.

Formations are one of the east things to add to 40k. It's the Allies system but better.

Formations that give free transports and other free bullshit? That's whack. That needs to go. The rest of the shit is great.

Except for every GSC formation.
>>
>>51116270
Formations have real potential. They are great for diversity in the listbuilding scene, and should have cool rules that are balanced by tax units and points costs for the formation itself like in Apocalypse. Skyhammer is a good example, it just needs its rules toned down.

They are a great way of making shit units not shit and empowering fluffy players. The problem is that GW also takes great units, spams them, and then gives them even more good rules as a reward. These problem formations, namely Riptide Wing et al. give the entire concept a bad name and should be straight up removed. Power units shouldn't be made so spammable.

Riptide costs 200 points
Ion accelerator costs 25 points
Ion accelerator range now 36"
Remove existence of all superheavy suits
Add more vehicles such as that tank that was armed with 3 types of missiles (cluster was one of them)
Allow cover saves from markerlights if unit is behind cover, markerlights still ignore stealth and shrouded saves.
Make GW tau flyers viable, they're the worst flyers on 40k right now.
Kroot supplement codex.
This alleviates all problems with Tau and makes them what people wanted them to be originally, a combined arms army with alien auxiliaries. Although personally I just like Tau flyers, sexy little things.
Also, here's an idea, correct me if I'm wrong.
If you take a biker marine as a hq for sm, you get bikes as hq choices.
If you take darkstrider as your hq, you get pathfinders as a troop choice, but only one squad may take special weapons. Is that a good/bad idea?

I think it was more the idea that somebody would build something that large and actually field it in a war.

I do agree that having Tau take down titans with aircraft, missiles, and railgun volleys was a lot more fitting. >>51117542
>1. What does "Tax" mean when talking about units?

It means paying points for something you don't really want, but have to take anyways. For example, I'd love to have more melta guns. I don't care what the melta gun is on, so anyone that carries the melta gun is a tax.

A Tactical Squad requires minimum 5 people at 70 points to carry a melta gun. That's a 70 point tax that I have to pay compared to, say, IG or Inquisition who have cheaper guys or smaller squads so they pay less tax.

If you want to get a bunch of heavy support, you have to pay the CAD tax requirement of 1 HQ 2 Troops to unlock the Heavy Support slots.

>2. What is "Jink"

Read your rulebook.

>4. Does "Boyz before Toys" count when playing killteam?

Depends on the army.

>5. What are decent brushes that are not sold by GW, cause that shits expensive.

Raphael 8404, Winsor & Newton S7, Da Vinci. But they all cost the same as GW. The only difference is they're the best brushes on the market for low snap, large belly miniature painting brushes while GW's are just average. If you like stiff high snap brushes or don't need a large reservoir, any suitable brush with a sharp tip will do.

>>
>>51116408

Formations aren't necessary. Even if you made them well balanced they're really set in stone and have zero diversity since you don't really choose what you can take (talking formations, not decurions). A better solution is FW's alternate force orgs. Those are very fluffy and actually balanced. For example, someone who wanted a superheavy centerpiece would no longer just cheese 1 HQ 2 Troops or abuse a superheavy only formation, they'd take the 30k Leviathan force org which has the appropriate bonuses and drawbacks for an army that features few men and focus solely on large warmachines.
>>
>>51117670
why not
>>
>>51117570
Even if they did, it's silly to think their first thought would be building an even bigger robot, since Tau fluff made it clear that they saw Titans as wasteful and impractical.

In the situations where tigersharks can't get close and there aren't any spare land a dropships available to support a fight directly, putting a spaceship gun on something ground-based is sensible.

What isn't sensible is mounting it on a pair of legs instead of a tank.

Also, directly in the fluff, it's stated that a modified Manta is needed to airlift in a Stormaurge. If you're facing a titan and don't have a manta to spare killing one, why would you have a specially converted one to spare to drop in something else?

>>
>>51117816
Not really. Besides, they already made a Tigershark with guns bigger than those. Twin strength D railguns should be great for the task.

Besides, you don't need something durable if you shoot first, which was why they used aircraft to start with. The Stormaurge is fluffed as something designed to hold a line. Which Tau don't really care to do, but can already be done about as well by Ruptures and hammerheads.

The one Land a you need to drop in a Stormaurge can carry 4 Hammerheads instead. While not reflected as well in the rules, that's a lot of firepower.

And again, if they really needed a more durable non-aerial platform, they should have gone for a tank.

Don't do what i did and cut out all the pieces before assembling, the arms have matching pairs and if you don't know which arms match to which you'll have a bad time. depending on what your paint scheme is, possiby leave off the shoulder pads, and if anyone has a non-helmet head that as well
>>

Absolutely nothing, you moron. Plastic glue holds the model together much more firmly, sub assemblies are a last resort only for models you absolutely can't get around having to build in bits.

I mean sure, you could paint it in parts, superglue it together then paint over the join, but that's going to be more hassle for exactly the same result.

you'll probably only need to leave the bolter off for that scheme, though you could leave the shoulders off, prime them black, and then prime the model red to make it easier on yourself, and if you're gonna leave the bolter off you could prime it black at the same time as the shoulders saving time

good god no, do not prime them black for a red scheme. red goes very poorly over black. base them red, make your life easy. For ultramarines, prime them blue, prime sergeant's helm red seperately. Once they're primed the proper colors, you can then assemble them and work from there (I'd leave the bolter off still though). Ultramarines shoulders are still blue with gold trim, you can prime them blue with the rest of the model without issue, just go back and paint the trim in black before painting it gold.

>>
>>51118531
There's a few things, though I would say the big ones are a lack of 2+ armor or invuln saves to help them survive, as well as a lack of good anti-tank options outside of assault, and a lack of strong shooting in general.

They're too squishy to run into melee, but don't have the guns to plink away at range. Synapse is also an issue.

The exception is Flyrants, because being airborne gives them survivability and mobility, which makes their gun a stronger option.
>>

>>51118531
I'm not really sure either. I'm guessing it's the lack of Invulnerable saves, Synapse being more of a curse than a benefit, the Psychic blow back from Tervigons dying, and I guess the lack of mobility in most of their mid-size and bigger units. The lack of EW is also an issue.

>>51118582

80 point Penitent Engine outclasses by a 45 point Skitarii walker. Should have a point cut, but it's probably those Heavy Flamers that are driving up the price, making it a monster that can thoroughly cook horde infantry. Still, should be a bit more durable for the cost.

This.

Aspect Host is cancer, and is pure Eldar wank. It's a flat BS5 to everything for free, and all you have to do is take at least three squads of aspect warriors.

Just look at other armies' "elite" formations. Loyalists get the 1st Company Task Force which has Fear and Fearless(meh) and Preferred Enemy against only one unit, not as great as getting a buff that's almost as powerful against the entire enemy army. Chaos Space Marines have similar "specialized infantry get better at using their specializations" with the War Cabal and Kakophani, but those formations require heavy investment in shooty tzeentch or slaanesh troops, which are overcosted to begin with, unlike Dire Avengers or Warp Spiders. Aspect Hosts are gross.

Im sorry anon probably didnt see that they weren't allowed outside the battlehost.

If your army is made up of formations and detachments, then you are battleforged.
>>

Read your rulebook

If you change that CAD into a Skitarii Maniple the list is legal

>>
>>51118987

It's pretty stupid, but you are still in a position where there is no reason not to take the aspect warriors as an aspect host for BS5, unless you're playing ITC and have a 3 detachment limit.
>>
>>51118981

Kill the Fear, is Mind?
>>
>>51119018

Read the fluff about them in the new Traitor Legions book.

They stopped helping at the Siege of Terra so they could assrape a bunch of Administratum workers, kill them and snort their remains like cocaine.
>>
>>51118366
Totally legal, you got it.

The Skitarii units fit into a Skitarii Maniple Detachment, the Cohort Cybernetica is a Formation (and Formations are stand-alone Detachments), so everything in in a Detachment in therefore is Battle-Forged.

You can indeed make the Dominus your Warlord.
>>
>>51119021
i dont know i've heard some pretty bad things about aspect host being one of the cheesier detachments
>>
>>51119003
A Vindicare isn't there to snipe tanks. He's for removing special weapons from squads to support your army. He's alright in that role but rarely makes his points back unless he snipes a shitton of gravcannons over the course of a game.

Yes he can snipe vehicles but shooting anything heavier than AV12 is asking for trouble given that you have a single non-Ordnance shot and are banking on a good vehicle damage roll to take it out with that one shot, and thus require a pen.
>>
So, guys. How are you supposed to fight Daemons? Is there a regular tactic you can use to whittle them down(IE: Killing Markerlights, Synapse Creatures, etc) or make them less of a pain to fight?
>>
>>51118230
There's plenty of 'em out there, and some counts-as, too. The reason no one fields them is cause the points suck.

And even the "good" molds require a lot of fucking work to fix.

I am new but I watched some video and looked at the rule books so I could play a game. However, I have yet to invest in any army. Was considering deathwatch now that there is a start collecting box for it but I was also wondering what the most OP teams are.

If you haven't seen the twin batrep on their site, he's even more lucky.
Steve beats like an extra 2000+ points of extra summoned daemons with his iron warriors.
Pretty fun to watch.
>>
>>51118531
>But what makes tyranids so awful right now?
Weapon Skill was nerfed across the board on an army meant for close combat.

Mobility was nerfed for units that are supposed to be fast while other armies all got faster, making it harder to reach combat.

Charging from Reserves was universally eradicated in an edition that already nerfed assault in 5 other ways, when it wasn't even that powerful before and was the only way some fragile melee units were even viable.

Options stripped away everywhere while base points were massively over-inflated. Previously you could take biomorphs to increase survivability like Reinforced Chitin, Bonded Exoskeleton, Extended Carapace - all gone now, while shooting weapons became more and more powerful and monstrous creatures got MORE expensive.

Most of their psychic powers were nerfed or straight up removed.

Synapse was nerfed. Instinctive Behaviour? Nerfed. The benefit of scything talons? Nerfed/removed. Fluffy special rules they used to have? Removed, without adding almost any new ones.

Basically the guy who was put in charge of Tyranids the last two editions is a bitter manchild fanboy who couldn't stand losing to Tyranids so he went in with a hacksaw and gutted their Codex, and then did it again for good measure, and then got put on the main rulebook design team and gutted assault and monstrous creature rules in that, too.
>>
>>51119209
Twin batrep? Is that one of the one's behind the paywall?

Also, I've noticed Steve is generally pretty lucky with all his rolls. I know it's not loaded dice because they all play with the same dice, but his rolls are always on fire every game I watch him. I think it's a case of confirmation bias, but it really does feel like he has this magic touch.
>>
>>51119067
He's really there to snipe powerful Independent Characters like Librarians and such.
>>
>>51119171
Depends on the type of Daemons, though they lack grenades, so sitting in cover can help against assaults. Killing key psykers with good powers is also important. Things with banners guiding deep strikes are also good to remove.
>>
>>51119033
Fear Mind, is the Kill
>>
>>51119171
Kill creatures that can summon first.
Just ignore Horrors as post-WoM it takes a fucking ridiculous amount of firepower to get rid of then.
If the Grimoire bearer is ever caught in the open focus fire them down immediately.

thank you all very much! any advice on which one should be the warlord? I just bought all the models, trying to figure out the benefits of both. i feel like its theme-ier to make my Dominus the warlord since he looks the most warlord-y. excited to build them though! they look pretty sweet.
>>
>>51119242
He's shit at killing multi-wound characters.
>wound on 2+, but allow invulnerable saves
>50% chance of d3 wounds, still allowing invulnerable saves
>50% chance of removing one wound
Those are his options, and they are not good.

"Second Captain Maestur Batius of the Iron Hands was the embodiment of his Legion's namesake: cybernetic augmetics empowering his massive muscular form, his "iron hands" developed from countless hours of deliberate and diligent practice alone in his chambers, studying the forms of Adepta Sororitas Battle Sisters"

-Black Library HH Novel, probably
>>
>>51119290
I would definitely go with the Dominus, myself. The Cult Mech Warlord benefits are almost all very good, and since you lack for many Cult Mech units in the army if you get the 6 result you can maximize the effects of your Canticles of the Omnissiah.

Removing rules for models that people have already purchased/painted cannot be done, no matter how much you wish it could.
>>
>>51119383
awesome! makes me happy that its better and fits the theme! cant wait to see the rules for the new dude coming out, he was the reason i bought all these in the first place!
>>
>>51119419
Make them cost four times as many points then.

It worked for Nids.
>>
>>51119510
It didn't "work" for nids, they're unplayable.

The answer to Tau is very simple - make their Walkers into actual fucking Walkers.
>>
>>51119522

That's the point.

Taunar and Stormsurge shouldn't exist, so the next best thing is to make them unplayable.
>>
>>51119522

I said it when that autist first posted this shit, and I'll say it to you, too.

It is basic subject context you are missing here, it is talking about his face, and you should be ashamed for your erotic homofantasies of otherwise.
>>
>>51119539

Riptide shouldn't even exist. Plastic XV88 shouldn't even exist.
>>
>>51119714
Glad you agree.
>>
>>51119641
It makes no sense from a fluff perspective, has a terrible looking design (no arms, open topped), and has poorly thought out rules ( runs super fast, kickboxing master in melee, anchoring allows Rhinos to topple you). It doesnt even mechanically justify itself as a Titan killer, since the only long range D weapons it has are Missiles they could logically stick on anything. It also completely ignores the already flimsy justification for Tau suits to not be vehicles (single operator neurolinked to the system) by having 2 dudes piloting it, one of whom is a hammerhead gunner. Literally the only thing it succeeds on is being an underpeiced unit that is hard to kill and rains death from afar, as though the Tau didn't have enough things by that description.

That said, you could just make it an open-topped walker with 0 attacks like it should be and that would fix it. Mainly because it would be shit and nobody would talk it, which is what it deserves.

Yeah, the paywall one.
Steve does seem exceedingly lucky at times, which is funny in contrast to Quirk's terrible rolls.
>>
>>51118566
From my experience theyre just good as an ally. And what I used them for was to just drop pod in and kill something high value. Frag cannons are your friend. Also a librarian can help with survivability along with good LoS with your drop pod. I think theyre too expensive for their own army. Its good to ally with inquisition or guard for some objective holding bodies.
