Orks: Not very smart, probably more fluff than WAAC, fun opponents.
Guard: Run the gamut from obnoxious to bro-ly, usually fun to encounter.
Nids: Only met one nid player who I didn't enjoy a game with and that's because taking a hard counter to his stealer spam in 4ed made him weep bitter tears.
Chaos: Very prone to WAAC, but will keep playing the same army even after a new edition nerfs that build.
Marines: Rarer in my meta than is apparently usually the case, range from horribly incompetent to wannabe WAACfags to Joe Average. My primary army.
Dark Eldar: Only met 2, can't form value judgement.
Sisters: If played by a dude, creepy, if played by a chick, arty.
Eldar: The army of choice for rules lawyers, child molesters and redditors, if there's any difference between the three. Army composition ranges from JUST AS PLANNED to WAAC.
Tau: Played by people who find eldar too complex. Never fun to play against because either they JSJ til you give up in despair or you pin them, sodomise their mecha and then they whine about how assault is OP.

I started Tyranids and Eldar in 4th edition, then added Orks to the list. I then added Dark Eldar when their 5th edition codex dropped. I have a thing for xenos apparently. Never bothered with Tau because my friend already collected them and I find their fluff rather boring. Same with Necrons.

Most of the IG players in my area are oddly not that into military stuff. The biggest two are this one guy who loves Militarum Tempestus and Guard, and the other is a tranny who loves Guard and Inquisition. Both are super fun to play with. The MT guy is really chill and fun to talk to. He tends to bring the strongest lists he can muster, so most games are fun in a competitive sense. The tranny is funny and always brings unique lists with units that you don't often see. Every game feels different.

Marines: new or grognard (there is no in-between) for vanilla
SW: In it for the VIKINGS and is the owner of a beard
DA: In it for the ROBES/BIKES and is probably fairly normiecore
BA: quality as a player highly depended on how seriously they take themselves
GK: In it for the TERMINATORS and knows at least 1/3 of "I am the Hammer" by heart
Chaos Daemons: are in it for the painting and are cool, unless they run mono Tzeentch, thus a shitter who thinks they're master tier strategists
CSM: are in it for the edge but can be okay as long as they don't run TS/IW/KL/BL
Dark Eldar: want to be edgy but can't be IRL
Eldar: New players are WAAC and Old players got in for the lLORE
Necrons: Got in because they like the Terminator films, can't paint for shit, but are fairly enjoyable to play against
Tau: anime fuckers and/or "b-but I wanna be the good guys..."
Orks: fun and in it for the fun (likely the best painters oddly enough)
Nids: Liked Alien, has a sexual fetish they fulfill, and/or is a girl
Cults: Wanted an Assault army or disenfranchised Nid player

Black legion: Saw the Posterchild and knew it was easy to paint. some are OG, some are newbs. this is the Ultramarines of Chaos so nothing much to say. they may get mad if you mention armless Abbadon.

Nightlords: Aka Edgelords. Love Curze too much, divided into two camps: those who love camp bat-wing helmets, or modern skull-face helmets. probably Batman fans but act more like Leto's Joker

Iron Warriors: Bitter, nostalgiafags, still cling to 3.5, enjoy simplistic but effective paint jobs, truly hate Imp Fists because it represents the 'cookie cutter basic SM' shit they avoided by playing Chaos

Word Bearers: OGrognards with big model collections. they like to use all their old as fuck sculpts, probably own some Diaznettes, claim to know all the fluff, proud of their neckbeards

Alpha Legion: These dudes own a Guy Fawkes mask at home. 99% of the time they come off as cringy fuckers spouting the same tired 'I am Alpharius lel XDDD' shit. Typically decent painters. The Anonymous legionfag's choice. basically /b/: the army.

Crimson Slaughter: Newfags who own a DV starter box or two. Possibly got tricked into buying all the CS shit gw released and were too stubborn to buy TL. Knowledgeable about Crimson slaughter lore, but little else.

Red Corsairs: Wanted to play marauders/vikings/pirates in space but Space wolves were too child-friendly/furfag bait for them. Typically arrogant as hell and think they are way more skilled than they are. will field Huron and get mad when he underperforms
