One time I played a tiefling that was secretly the villain of the campaign; he was actually a formerly powerful devil that had his powers sealed away due to some stereotypical Hell power struggle fuckery. It was the DM's idea at the time, have the villain be right under the party's nose the entire time. I played him as a rogue, but the smooth talker type rather than the stab-n-steal type. The campaign didn't get too far, some of the party got new jobs irl a few sessions in and the group kinda fell apart. I kinda miss that campaign, he was an enjoyable character to play. My first words in character were "Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a man of wealth and taste..."

Played a Tiefling Psion in 4e years ago, had a really fun (if short run) with the character before it ended.

Best battle was "Battle of Wuxia Cliff" where me and the Halfling Monk were making camp. Monk is on first watch and doing his kata exercises when he heard noise from the clifftop. Wushu jumping up to a small ledge, he sees a bunch of ropes get tossed over. As a bunch of orcs descend down, he leaps, kicks one off its rope, cuts another and then jumps up to the main clifftop. My psion saw a big ass orc look over and psionically pulled him off the cliff, his impact killing one of the two orcs (other was already dead).

Monk proceeds to kung fu (wire string) foght the Orc Shaman and his eagles while I nimbly flipped, slid, mentally bash and stun the Orc Chief who I had pulled from up top.

Shit was cash.

I liked Tieflings more before they had a standardized appearance (ie: lots of different demons have been screwing lots of different mortals for a long time, so their descendants have a wide variety of appearances and sometimes powers), more like half-elves, where they don't have a society or history of their own or anything, so they have to find their own way in the world.

A big part of it is that (in 3.X) their stats are +Dex +Int -Cha so they're best suited to being Rogues (also in 3.X that was their favored class), Wizards, and other Dex or Int based classes.

In 5e they're Dex/Int and iirc they have specific abilities that were made for being Rogues or Warlocks.

I think they were Dex/Cha in 4e for some reason, but I never looked closely at them there.

I'm currently playing as a Tiefling Ranger. DM was running a one-shot to introduce our friends to 5E (and D&D in general). I decided to join in since I hadn't had a campaign in a long while. I'd been wanting to try out a ranger character and since it was just going to be a one-shot I decided to make a ridiculous character. (Keep in mind that this was before the Revised Ranger UA, so this was just the default PHB Ranger)
With Two Weapon Fighting, Favored Enemy: Oozes, and Favored Terrain: Arctic, I figured that I'd slapped together a sufficiently silly character without being dead weight for the 6 person Level 3 party. Thus, Asmodai Jones the Tiefling Detective was born.

It depends on the system you're playing in. For instance in Pathfinder, there are several variations of Tiefling based on what fiend is their ancestor; ironically enough, Demon-descended ones (+STR, +CHA, -INT) are some of the best Paladins you can make thanks to their abilities.

Big daddy king wasn't getting any baby boys with the missus so he makes a contract with a succubus in desperation. Because, hey, what's the worst that can happen?

Ive been playing a Tiefling in a 5E campaign and the first consistent group ive had in a few years.

The group started as 4E players that got sick of hteir hack n slash DM that branched out into PF and asked me to join in and help out since i knew 3.PF pretty well. I swear like 3-4 years ago you had a table of people with two characters each that were named after their classes going through rooms full of monsters to unlock the "next floors" as the same set-up every damn game. They invite me and I end up rolling stuff up like a camel riding Mermaid oracle or a CG Cult leading Monkey themed Summoner that ran circles around the party. I couldnt keep playing with them but they got inspired and tried upping their game. Early 2015 they invite me for a 5E game which they half converted from their 4E game to keep some of the stragglers happy. I figure I should create something neat to meet expectations again so I decided to create the nsot straight forward stereotype I can imagine and find a way to make it interested

I dod this by looking at this new system and loving the backgrounds concept in 5E.I could take a LE Tiefling Fiend Warlock and make something unique with a good background.So I make him a Nobleman. I am the cursed bastard child of a decadent Marquis that has sunk his homeland more and more each year and the only reason I still live is because my fathers general ineptitude at evil plots.

I am sent out as an ambassador to get me out of the picture and I play myself up as a noble Knight-Errant out fighting for good and justice. I end up the party leader/tactician and Bards sing of my heroic acts across the land. Ok so maybe I have to hide the full extent of my enlightened moral philosophy but its for everyones benefit. After all who is more fit to lead than I am?

The basic Idea I had is a David Xanatos/Dr.Doom style character who has plots and plans to turn everything his way no matter what happens and enough Cha/Int that justifies all this shit. Yeah taking the ultimate McGuffin for myself would be great but its more important to me that the uncouth CE BBEG doesnt get his hands on it. Of course most good deeds I perform are for boosting my reputation but I do get results dont I? Hey party member remember that time you thought it was a good idea to grow a giant tree in the middle of the orc camp and I had to cast fly on the whole party come in to rescue you and still somehow managed to salvage the whole operation? The best part was around lv10 when the DM found an excuse to have my father create a complication in our lives by saying I had to report to the BBEGs nation for "Crimes" I committed over there. Iknow the DM is doesnt have a plan and wants to let me take this and run so I decide its time for my father to abdicate at which point Ill pardon myself. The rest of the party didnt see this coming either but they head with me to my homeland and we have a pretty awesome RP scene in the throne room which I politely but menacingly interacting with a father I obviously hate and scaring the shit out of him . Now I had drawn up a lot of backstory and hinted about it too the PCs so they sort of knew bits and pieces.

The DM then has my dad mentions visiting my mother grave and it was like the air got sucked out of the room. Im so in character at this time that for a few seconds the 20 Cha face of the party doesnt have anything to say and he whole party looks at me like they expect the room to start filling with fireballs.The little they ever heard of my mother was that "She was a saint" and not much more.

The backstory of my character gets explained over the next session or two. Essentially my father had a drunken rapescpade which left him with another bastard child this time he forced himself onto "One of those blue demon women from the beggers corner". This time though having a cursed demon child is a good way for his rivals in court to slander hm so they work to make sure the kids existence is known and he is forced to recognize this bastard child. The attempt to eliminate them doesnt work when the baby is rescued and the mother dies slowing the assassin down.

Suddenly the PCs see why I was always so paranoid about using detect poison rituals everytime I eat anything and all sorts of mannerism like that become obvious. Now everytime I make absolutely sure I have everyones attention and im the beloved hero it had a layer tossed on it beyond "Hes just using them for his own gain".

In the end I confront my mothers murderer and the obstacle between me and the throne. I insist that he goes into retirement and turns over rule of a bankrupt land to me and he retires to a nice estate far away from me where he doesnt touch a political plot and I mention I wont even have him killed.Its an easy bloodless transition of power that other nobles of the land cant argue with and everyone is happy in the end. My Diplomacy check goes through the roof seconds later

The PCs are pretty impressed that I pull this off with a single fight and that I was willing to spare a guy I hated so much.I point out to them that I didnt do it from mercy but convenience. I say that if i were a good man I would have avenged my mother and struck down an unjust tyrant and dealt with the consequences I tell them that I realize I really am an evil man at this very moment/

Life goes on I rebuild the kingdom with every resource at my disposal and despite my fiend nature im the beloved heroic man who saved the land from evil.I stifle aspect an of me that wishes it was true

I remember this one tiefling cleric that one of the players from my group once played. He worshippet asmodeus and was basically really arogant about it, and saw all tiefling as being superior, since they were granted devil blood from the king of all devils. It was the perfect way to make a character that was arogant, without being "that guy". Also a good way to play an evil cleric without going "grant me powers o' great dark ones!!"

Its about a man known as "The Bastard" and he was a teifling paladin...OF WAR!
Now "The Bastard" was his Clerical title, his actual nme was Vashi Gui, he served a god call Kord, or as some in the order called him in "the randy and savage one". Kord had decreed that "The Bastard" teach the town of Rot-port the glorious art of prayer battles, and that buff devilman was happy to oblige. The town already had a temble to the glorious god, but it was in bad shape, so Vashi spent his spare time whith the clerics and monks repairing temple and constructing a prayer ring (an oxymoron of course as it was more a roped off square platform) and the rest of his day helping the party. Finally, after much preparation and planing, the time had come for this new order to reveal itself to the world.
At one point, when the party was walking through Rot-ports town square, i asked the dm what season it was in game. He nonchalantly said summer was just starting up.i had the biggest shit eating grin at that. Vashi climbed to the tallest point in the center of the square (there was a statue of some shitter of importance) and proudly proclaimed that this Sunday, at the temple of Kord, the newly formed order known as the Rot-port Wrestling Federation (RWF for short) would be holding the first annual Ye' Olde Summerslam, and that everyome should come as there would be booze, merriment and glorious battle in celebration of the randy savage that us KORD. After this and an incident involving a dwarf dressed as a dire bee and us sneeking into a funeral disguised as owlbears, the DM promptly abandoned the game. I like to imagine that Vashi is still out ther, wrestling for glory and honor, and singing kords praises with a mighty cry of "OH YEAHHHH"

I played a tiefling bard in 5e, and this race-class combo is my default. Joined my FLGS's Adventure League, and it was the first session of Hoard of the Dragon Queen.

The group was fucking huge--about 9 people, and the store owner was the DM. We come upon the starting town, help them out against kobolds, get inside the besieged keep. There we're told that some villagers are in the church across the creek, and we have to sneak through an old sewer to get there and rescue them.

We get down to the gate, and the DM asked, "who wants to lead?" I said I'd lead, mostly joking. Being new to this group, they all thought I was dead serious, even with like 3 fighters in the group.

So here we go, single-file down the 5 ft wide tunnel. The cleric, two places behind me, has a light cantrip on and it helps. But it didn't help me enough to stumble into the rat swarm. And they literally engulfed me.

Going down the initiative, it clicks in my head. I ask the next player, a mage, in line to throw a fireball at me. "Don't worry, I have fire resistance."

Resistance rules changed since 4e.

So instead of absorbing X amount of fire damage like in 4e, I took the best of 2d20 rolls for a save throw, and they both sucked. I nearly die, and all my clothes are burnt off. The mage feels so bad that he runs to the end of the tunnel, grabs the sewer gate bars and shouts "WE NEED MEDICAL ATTENTION!" This gets the attention of patrols of course.

The rest of the session I hang back with low health, picking off kobolds with my crossbow while in a loincloth. A player asked, "where did you get your crossbow? All your clothes burned off." I told him he wouldn't like it if I told him. It was my anus, of course.

And thus Horace the Tiefling will always be remembered by my FLGS group. We still make references to fire resistance and needing medical attention to this day.

Anyone have that screen cap of the story about a tiefling palidin, and they go clearing a ancient tomb or something. At one point she runs out of bathtub to save her friends? Cant find my copy.

I played a tiefling ranger ones. The idea was that he'd been forced to live on the outskirts of his town and get by on his own most of the time since everybody shunned him, so he eventually just decided to fuck it and move completely in the woods, away from people.
He was with the party because he was hired to be their guide and tracker due to knowing the land. Personality-wise he was a grumpy misanthrope, but did become more friendly with the other party members over time due to spending time with them and having to depend on each other.

No. Dremora are born of the void to serve Merhunes Dagon. They can leave the Deadlands and Serve other princes willingly but are usually frowned upon for doing so. They can also be summoned to mundus and bound against their will. They have problems staying in the mareial world of mundus with out great magic. Whether it is a minor god enslaving them to watch a shrine or the use of sigil stone in the towers of oblivion that keep them anchored they have to be held in the realm of mundus by something powerful. Otherwise they disappear. Dremora are lesser daedra. They embody padomaic forces. When they die they go to the Deadlands (specific plane of oblivion, not an afterlife) and have to work their way back up their clans hierarchy. There are no females and they aren't born in any traditional sense. They've just been. Either forged from the immaterial to serve the Daedric Lords or spawned from sithis (concept of the void and padomac forces not the deity)

Only tiefling character I played was a wizard.
As for his personality I decided to use the whole 'tieflings are persecuted/mistrusted' thing to not make him an edgelord but instead someone who just really wanted to make some friends and be trusted/accepted but was socially awkward from having so much trouble doing that in the past.

Ended up with a rather endearing relationship with the parties goliath barbarian, where because we both had included a lack of good family connections in our backstories they ended up becoming a sort of adopted brother sister pair.

Playing an intro game so I rolled a randomfuckingdndcharacter. Tiefling Ranger from Dank Hollow who was written out of the family will. Another player was going to be a tiefling sorcerer so now he's a noble and we're awesome tiefling (half)brothers. I did use the dex+int variant though.

She had a lot of self loathing going on and was convinced she was one sin away from being smited from the face of the Earth.

Another player ended up messing with her head, trying to convince that he was her god for an entire session and telling her to do bad shit, and she ended up going insane a few sessions later.

She ended up renouncing her gods and becoming a drunkard.

Currently playing a teifling bard (College of Whispers) who plays a fiddle. His goal is to find and best a legendary bard who claimed a family heirloom, a gilded fiddle, in a musical contest with his father. He's oddly obsessed with engaging in contests with people to get what he wants, and will almost always try and find an alternative method of victory if he finds himself outmatched.
