I have made one.
I don't know who my dad was or what he did. I only knew the streets and Sister Gargonne at the orphanarium.
>>
>>51062627
Currently playing one. Her father is Jestom Flinn, also a half-elf, since her family is all half-elf for four generations back, and he's a book binder who's ashamed of his Azlantaboo daughter.
>>
>>51062627
Making one right now who is a ripoff of Simo Häyhä. Haven't figured out the parental thing yet. One of my old successful characters was a ranger whose human father was a ranger as well. He retired to a farm and she eventually took up his bow in service of their Lord.
>>
>>51062627
Well, I've fathered a few, but technically they were half elf and half...giant-blooded, I guess? It was one of the GM's custom races.

And hilariously, so much shit kept happening to my character and the kids' mother (became king, absorbed an angel's soul, stole a devil's authority, started developing a sorcerer bloodline, drank dragon's blood) that the li'l fucker ended up sounding like a gigantic mary sue completely by accident.
>>
How often have you used the spell Anthropomorphic Animal?
>>
>>51062627
>Played one
Yep, several
>who was your daddy and what did he do
1. A brave, dead human ranger who died fighting the Man; adoptive daddy was a traveling peddler who also distilled his own moonshine
2. Daddy was a stern warrior from a violent clan who left before Character was born; elven grandfather who was the substitute paternal figure was an amoral arms dealer.
>>
>>51062627
>The Original Speshul Snowflake race. Have you played one? Who was your daddy? What does he do?
I'm currently playing one. He is a half drow, with the drow half being the father. The father was a professional poisoner who fled to the surface after some bad business and decided to stay. Eventually became part of a crime syndicate as a poisoner/alchemist. Met the character's mother through that, daughter of the "boss". Had a wacky ole' time convincing the don to let him marry his daughter, ended up poisoning her fiancé. Things turned out better than expected overall.
>>
>>51062627
>Played one
Am playing one, a Pack Lord Druid with a white wolf and a black wolf with a love for lightning magic.

>Who was your daddy? What does he do?
Some merchant who fucked an elf.
>>
>>51062627
>The Original Speshul Snowflake race. Have you played one? Who was your daddy? What does he do?
Yes, playing one right now. He was a drunken oaf who banged a Calistrian, managed to impregnate her and was stuck with him. Merchanting and booze hounding
>>
Post your character concepts.
>>
>>51062627
Not yet.

My last character was an Elven Cleric of Desna.
Before that, it was an Elven Sandman (Bard) in a Dragon Age campaign.

This was a few years after being the perma-DM. Before that, it was usually Humans.

I'm going to walk into a PFS game tomorrow at the LGS, and ask for a pregen. They might have a half-elf. I'm living dangerously this year.

I'm really going to look for players for a campaign I want to run.

So quick question about dragons from someone who used to 3.5. Does the world Pathfinder create continue the tradition D&D created with the Draconic races where dragons of different subtypes want to practically kill each other on sight or are things a bit more nuanced in Golarion and the rest?

Current character:
>Human Druid
>Inspiration: druid's from Skellige in Witcher 3, Dr. Kynes from Dune, and God's Gardeners from Year of the Flood.
>Basic idea: think an ecologist that hangs with a leopard and can do magic.

Next character I'm split between two different concepts, both are kind of necromancers. I'll split them with a "/":
>Half-orc witch(plague patron)/human twilight arcanist
>Inspiration: Witch-doctors and shamans that have a focus on death and the undead./Herbert West, Johannes Cabal, and Van Wilder.
>Basic idea: pretty much a worshipper of Nurgle, but doesn't necessarily want to spread epidemics. Death is as much a part of life as birth is. Is on the fence for lichdom/Wants to have a good time. Forever. And give Death the middle finger. Forever. Doesn't want to be a luck though.

A qlippoth tiefling woman from a poor, destitute, backwater hillbilly community who was only considered to have lost the local incestuous genetic lottery in a very big way until she became an adventure. A nice lady with a big heart, but ignorant, foolhardy, reckless, and not all that bright. Looks a little like pic related.

I've thought of plenty of vile details to make sure that her heritage is clear enough. She gets insect legs like skin tags that she prefers to snip off, she bleeds pus, spoiled foods taste divine to her (the more decomposed the better), just all kinds of little details to make her gross enough.

So here's a sort of difficult question. The wording is rather iffy.

A first level wizard picks a school.
Let's say Conjuration, so he gets longer conjurations and acid darts.
Let's assume he multiclasses rather than remaining a specialist wizard.

>Dimensional Steps (Sp)
>At 8th level, you can use this ability to teleport up to 30 feet per wizard level per day as a standard action. This teleportation must be used in 5-foot increments and such movement does not provoke an attack of opportunity. You can bring other willing creatures with you, but you must expend an equal amount of distance for each additional creature brought with you.

When it comes to establishing the range of the power it explicitly states it depending on your wizard level. But the wording on Dimensional Steps does not. When looking at the wizard level table it only states bonus feats, there is no mention of arcane school upgrades or anything like that. Essentially there is nothing suggesting that these powers are tied to wizard levels explicitly.

For some of the Elementalist schools there seems to be a more differentiating wording, as sometimes DC is attributed to the caster levels (air, metal, void, water) and sometimes to the wizard levels. Which is even more confusing. Why would one power play nice with multiclassing and the other wouldn't? Does that imply that fire or wood is stronger? What sort of balancing is this?
Is this oversight? Is this intended?

School transmutation (polymorph); Level druid 3, sorcerer/ wizard 3, witch 3

CASTING
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M (a humanoid thumb bone)

EFFECT
Range touch
Target animal touched
Duration 1 hour/level
Saving Throw Fortitude negates; Spell Resistance yes

DESCRIPTION
You transform the touched animal into a bipedal hybrid of its original form with a humanoid form, similar to how a lycanthrope's hybrid form is a mix of a humanoid and animal form. The animal's size, type, and ability scores do not change. It loses its natural attacks except for bite (if it had one as an animal), all types of movement other than its land speed, and special attacks that rely on its natural attacks. One pair of its limbs is able to manipulate objects and weapons as well as human hands do; limbless animals like snakes temporarily grow a pair of arms. The creature's Intelligence increases to 3, and it gains the ability to speak one language you know. It is not considered proficient in any manufactured weapons. It can attack with unarmed strikes, dealing unarmed strike damage for a creature of its size (unless it has a bite attack, which is a natural attack).

Anthropomorphic animal can be made permanent with a permanency spell cast by a caster of 11th level or higher at a cost of 7,500 gp.

You shouldn't have much more than early days, and not TOO much adventuring-level stuff especially if you're just level 1-3. You're NOT a seasoned adventurer yet and if you try to pretend you are, a few sessions in you're likely to realize your alignment and attitude don't match what you'd written.

>>51063487
No, that's blatantly untrue. PF story and game design don't match up. They never have. They didn't in 3.5, they didn't in 3.0. Nobody knows what a veteran is supposed to be. Some veterans are level 16, some are level 1 fighters as opposed to warriors.
>>
>>51063491

>>
So, when does the party stop one-shotting things? Party just got to level two, and they are wiping the floor with every creature so far.

I don't want to adjust too many things, since they go a while without having resting (6-8 encounters between resting), and have gotten fairly low but the AP is handing out potions like candy and they have a Warpriest to help them in combat.
>>
>>51063501

>>51063513

This to be quite honest

As a game designer/world builder it is your duty and responsibility to figure out what the fuck "level 3 fighter" means in the context of the world: is it a county bumpkin or a county champion? Can anyone off the streets be a classed fighter, or can only someone from a specific guild with a specific amount of training be a fighter?
>>
>>51063533
>So, when does the party stop one-shotting things? Party just got to level two, and they are wiping the floor with every creature so far.
In APs, the challenges are weird in that about 7/8 encounters they are designed that paizo iconics can do them (ie unoptimised people who can shoot one 1d8 crossbow bolt a round at level 6) and 1/8 are going to murder anyone who hasn't read the campaign in advance and metagamed a response to a flying invisible Sorcerer blasting your ship to pieces.

You should make large amounts of changes.

But what if *I* wanted to bone Mystra? Do I have to ask Elminster for permission?

Eberron did this better. In that setting, everyone's so low-powered that a legitimate level 15 character is the most powerful example of that person in the entire setting. Hell, isn't Megatron just level 12, and he's a god?

Honestly, the homebrew setting suggests this is a first time game attempt, the plot to the game started off dubious and has only marginally improved, the suggested quests for renown building seem overly simple and sidequest-of-the-week-y, and lastly the GM seems more interested in worldbuilding than giving the players a good time.

Makes people uneasy to app.
The other thing is that since its a homebrew place, trying to put characters in takes longer since one needs to hash out what the countries are like. Lots of people have already shown interest and I hope to see some good apps put forwards!

When it went first and one-shot them instead.

Before about level 5-6 you can survive NOT one-shotting things. Afterwards? If all the enemies ALL get to go first, while it's not a 100% (because things can miss), there's a decent chance of someone dying (not just 'going down into negatives').

Now sure, on an individual combat, chances are someone misses, an enemy or two get hits in, but not all of them so no one goes down....

But the problem is that "enemies" don't really exist anymore after one fight. But the party gets many, many fights, and - especially until proper resurrections come online at 11+ - and you can't afford to die, because, well, you're fucking dead. People die when they are killed.

So if the party knows what they're doing, the enemies are taken out of commission (it can be not-killing but *that* requires specialized builds, most of them casters) or someone is.
>>

Don't fret! These are after all only the musings of a single anon. Others may think differently.
And even if others do think similarly, if you don't attempt any game, you'll not see where to improve!

I'm still tempted to make an app but haven't had the time to do anything but glance over what you've done. It does look like you've put effort into the world, which is a good sign!

That may put some players off, but attract others! And the revised premise is much more appealing!

On an unrelated note, what are your suggestions, /pfg/ for recurring villains? So often it seems that in games like PF there's hardly ever an instance where combat begins and both parties walk away intact unless that was the intent going into it. A few threads ago, people were talking about how PCs gain levels so quickly compared to everyone else.

One anon suggested that they gain power from Great Old Ones. That's kind of what happens in Helck, but higher level humans awaken with the power of the "New World."

By gaining levels, PCs make a stronger connection between their campaign setting and elder gods.

The best recurring villains are the ones your party completely forgets about, or that gets away every time through cowardice or something else. Have a single enemy NPC who runs from the fight while he still can, and have him command a revenge squad that ambushes them in the night (from the rear, of course). Have him appear during random boss fights to throw a random spell from a scroll before hightailing it out of there. Just make him a massive pain in the ass.

I'd left significant parts of Valeriya's backstory undefined so that they could be adapted as befit the campaign and the other characters if I was selected. Her sexuality as a whole was part of that, meant to be adapted as needed.

I had a few inklings of characters that she might have interesting interactions with: Song Lilin was probably at the top of that list as a primary rival, but Casimir was up there too as a friend or maybe even mentor type character. I hadn't considered him as a potential suitor, but I must concede they might make a cute couple. That said, I'd probably leave that to see how it shakes out in game even if Casimir's player is down. So making a homebrew class that acts essentially as a base for anything. I'm hoping use for several campaigns, here's what I have so far:

>You choose one weapon proficiency group and one armor proficiency group at the start.

>You choose skills equal to half your INT score rounded up, these are your class skills. Skill points are INT+3.

>Bab+1 table, you choose one save to be your +1, the rest are +0.

>You have spells per day equal to the druids table, and the associated stat is INT, and you can learn any spell. You must sleep/meditate to get your spell uses back each day and to use magic you must have a spellbook in your possession to be able to cast spells, you only know/can use spells found within the book. (No orisans/free 0lvl spells)

>You receive a bonus feat at first level, and each level after. You can take any feats for this ability accept for class ability feats (extra rage, extra rogue talents, ECT).

For campaigns that are using this class, all players would be use this class. Feedback would be appreciated for this.
>>
>>51064979
Either you're retarded or that's a typo, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it's the latter.
>>
>>51065020
If you don't play it like that then you aren't acting like a samurai properly, at least not in terms of L5R. I could just play a different character.
>>
>>51065031

Does it matter? The point I'm making is you're trying to be better than a ridiculously small number of people, and there's very good odds that you'll make the cut if you put some passion into it.

>>51065005

Wasn't Esmera one of Drive's characters? He chose Bellenka for this game, so Esmera (and her shtick) are up for grabs. Besides, Esmera was more the general-purpose human babysitter, the girl I'm thinking of is a more jolly, red-faced Agatha.

/pfg/ I need ideas for villainous schemes.

My PCs are level 5 and are being sponsored by a noble. The villain is not working against the PCs, but the noble sponsoring the PCs for now. So the conflict needs to be kind of round-a-bout but still impactful for them. It can be political or obvious or anything like that. I am just drawing a blank on unique ideas

Pic related in the bad guy. He is ambitious and ruthless. He maintains distance from all his schemes, preferring to act through minions then actually getting his hands dirty. I gave him LE but he could be NE. He seeks political power and more wealth usually through blackmail and sabotage. His legitimate wealth currently comes from vineyards and meaderies his family owns but he wants more than to be known as the vintners.
>>
>>51065065
>and there's very good odds that you'll make the cut if you put some passion into it.
You're assuming a lot about my writing ability.
>>
>>51065065
I disagree with your exact assessment of the odds, but it's true that there's probably a fighting chance for anyone who displays at least some passion in their application.

Following the GM's specs for how to write an application probably helps. It's not like the character even needs to be lewd or memed--and if the GM only chooses people based on whether they were popular or sexual, then you can consider yourself to have dodged a bullet.
>>
>>51065021
So basically, really generic do whatever class with more feats than the fighter?
>>
>>51065095
1) Why is the noble sponsoring the PCs?
2) If the Villain seeks power, have him attack the PCs since the hired PCs are clearly a threat and helping the noble.
>>
>>51065065
Passion I can do, but with the odds that stacked I don't see any reason to bother. I'll just save the concept for a game with fewer applicants.
>>
>>51065095
>So the conflict needs to be kind of round-a-bout but still impactful for them. It can be political or obvious or anything like that. I am just drawing a blank on unique ideas

Play him like Littlefinger; the PCs are profitable assets and he will continue to support them, but he's got the knife ready to cut them off the moment their relationship turns gangrenous, and he's been spending lots of time sharpening that blade with a whetstone made from all the black-mail and evidence of their illicit dealings.
>>
>>51065095
Make him the money behind some kind of mercenary band or arms dealer. His funds propel their illegal research and allow them a place to hide from the law, likely behind a legitimate front, with enough distance that he can disavow them if anyone finds out.

His personal stake in all this might be that he's using them to destabilize the nation so that he can appear to be a savior and peacemaker, or rival nations so that his own can gain control over them.

For bonus points, make the mercenaries flashy, powerful, and wind-themed
>>
>>51065095
>My PCs are level 5 and are being sponsored by a noble. The villain is not working against the PCs, but the noble sponsoring the PCs for now. Have him use the PCs to destabilize an ancient noble family, robbing them of competent members and leaving the heir or head of the household a single woman he could later court for a profitable marriage.

This is one of the less savory ways a wealthy merchant could catapult to a Dukedom.
>>

At that point I'd wonder why anyone would choose the fighter to begin with, he states that you get a bonus feat at EVERY level, not every other, which means that at level 20 you'd have 29 feats to throw around like candy, an even 30 if human, compared to a Fighter's 20, 21 if human. With that many feats one can easily replicate 90% of what a fighter does with feats to spare, and the inevitably garbage saves you'll get can also be somewhat helped with the feats that grant bonuses to your saves.

Unfortunately you won't be able to replicate fighter-specific feats like GWS but y'all are smart, I'm sure you can find a way around that with an extra 5 or so feats.

The good noble is sponsoring the PCs. The bad noble is working against the good noble.
>2) If the Villain seeks power, have him attack the PCs since the hired PCs are clearly a threat and helping the noble.
I have tried that and I am not sure I want to give him that much power. The last time I did that the PCs suicide rushed them and one died.

That could work. There are bandits in the woods. Maybe they need a sponsor to up their illicit activity. Or a new gang that has a mysterious sponsor.

You'd be shocked at how good Pathfinder campaigns become when you start using stuff from Crusader Kings 2.

You could make entire casts of NPCs off of running on Observe for 50 years, unpausing, and reading up on the culturally analogous region to your campaign for characters (they even come with traits, personalities and goals!)

What armor training provides can (mostly) be replicated with buying armors made from special materials, and I have to protest the idea that one can't just spend a feat to get bonuses to your to-hit or damage on your rolls, it's just that for most builds taking those feats is much less useful that other feats you could get instead.

I wanna start ramping up the difficulty, and making travel truly dangerous, and there's a serious undead bend to my games.

Anyone willing to give me examples of easy, medium and challenging random encounters? Otherwise I'm just gonna be spamming skeletons and zombies until the party actually has trouble.

Okay, so what the heck is Craft (Books) when there's Artistry (Literature?)

For real, if you want to become a proper bookwriter you seem to need Craft (Books), Craft (Calligraphy) and Artistry (Literature), all Intelligence.
>>
>>51066322
>summon monster 0

>infinite summon monsters

How about no.
>>
>>51066365

Artistry is a fucking background skill
>>
>>51066365
I mean yeah. That makes sense.
>>
>>51066334
>>51066373
I'm not that guy, but what if you weaken it by drastically lowering the time the monster is around and making it a full round to summon?
>>
>>51066396

You'd only be able to have a single CR 1/4 critter with a proposed SM0, casting it again replaces the critter

Summon Monster already takes a full round
>>
>>51066396
Summoning is already a full round
>>
>>51066396
You can still trivialize most problems by just throwing enough cats or rats at it.
>>
>>51066396
>Making it a full round to summon
Already the case
>Drastically lowering the time
It doesn't matter when it already lasts 1 round/level. It's the fact you have unlimited critters you can send in to suicide/center effects on/whatever per day, when Summon Monster 1 is already considered pretty powerful and a spell to prepare even at high level *just* for that reason.
>>
>>51066365
You know there are multiple jobs when it comes to making books, right? Artistry (Literature) is the writer, Craft (Calligraphy) is the calligrapher or typesetter, and Craft (Book) is the printer or bookbinder.
>>
>A trap that casts summon monster
>>
>>51066418
>>51066421
I'm dumb, in other news I think what the first guy said is an acceptable alternative. Most if not all CR1/4 creatures can be oneshot even at level 1 anyway so for the most part all they're good for is setting up flanking for that sweet, sweet +2 to hit.

>>51066439
For the exact reason I stated above I'd personally disagree greatly. For a level 1 spell I can, for instance, Color Spray for insane effects, do guaranteed damage with MM, heal 1d8+lvl, or summon a wolf that has garbage stats and will go down in a hit to anything strong enough to take on the rest of the party. I don't know about your parties, but in mine SM at any level is a worthless slot that is much better taken up by something else.
>>
>>51066481

What would I take if I wanted to make a Minkai porn scroll?
>>
>>51066484
The wolf that has garbage stats has scent, and you can order it to throw itself at most traps. It's out of combat utility.
>>
>>51066523
But even with that being said at lower levels a mage generally isn't going to be geared at being out-of-combat utility outside of identifying whatever potion you've found shoved up the buttcheeks of the Gollum clone you just slaughtered. You get so few slots at low-level, why waste a slot doing what your rogue/ninja/stalker can do for you?
>>
>>51066587
I specifically said that it's a higher level utility in my original post you goof

At lower level you prepare other stuff, obviously
>>
>>51064953
>not even a lewd game

Nah
>>
>Kobold summoners who summon kobolds
>Traps that summon kobolds
>>
>>51066516
Depends. If you work solo it'll all be covered by Profession (Mangaka), but if you work with a partner or as part of a team then you might divide it up. Artistry (Literature) for the writer, Craft (Painting) for the penciller, inker, and colorist, if you have one, and Craft (Calligraphy) for the letterer.
>>
>>51066613
Oh. Well. Once again I am dumb. Maybe I should go to bed before I make a fool of myself once again, it's clear my reading comprehension is in the toilet tonight.

That said those roles still seem like they'd be better suited for the resident party member that can do what most low-level animals can do as part of their class, but perhaps that's just proof that I don't know how to do high level casters. I always preferred buffs and debuffs with my spells anyway.

You may spend a spell point to have your shapeshift deal 1d6 per two caster levels (minimum 1d6) untyped damage to all targets that fail their save against the shapeshift.

You may add the following traits to your forms:

Flesh Pocket: You rearrange internal organs and muscles to create a pocket inside the target’s body, usually in the abdomen. The opening to the pocket resembles a large scar. The pocket can hold creatures and objects objects up to two sizes smaller than the target. The target gains a +20 circumstance bonus to concealing items in their flesh pocket.
Seal Eyes: The target must pass a Fortitude save or have its eyes sealed, blinding it.
Twist Legs: The target must pass a Fortitude save or have one movement speed reduced by 10 ft. plus 5 ft. per 5 caster levels, to a minimum of 5 ft.
Wrench Stomach: The target must pass a Fortitude save or be sickened while the shapeshift lasts or for a number of rounds equal to your caster level, whichever is shorter. If you spend an additional spell point, the target is instead nauseated on a failed save and sickened for one round on a successful save.

Anybody care to share some of their favourite stories from campaigns they've been in? I'll start

>Be a standard fighter, cleric, wizard and rogue party
>In a lair hunting something that's been killing villagers
>Plagued by low level creatures like skeletons and goblins
>Party manages to pacify some of the goblins, and they learn that they're hunting a dragon
>They move on to The lair, and peek at a dragon, seeing how ridiculously overpowered it is
>They go back, and recruit a shitload of the goblins by promising treasure
At this point I'm laughing at this, and as GM, I tell them if they roll a diplomacy check they can hire them as mercenaries.
>Natural fucking twenty, plus a diplomacy skill bonus
What followed was an epic battle, in which the fighter and rogue both lead their own goblin squads to fight a dragon. Probably one of my favourite moments ever, especially when they jammed a goblin down it's throat to disable it's breath attack.
