Armada question: How am I supposed to deal with one of these as Rebels? I'm getting ready to play in a Corellian Conflict campaign (my Rebel teammates and I are going to try to figure out our fleets this weekend), and I have every reason to think at least two out of the three Imperial fleets will have an ISD2.

>Have a ton of hull and shields, can prevent critical damage, and have a great engineering rating
>Front arc can vaporize a lot of ships in a single shot (and side arcs are as powerful as a Pelta-class Command Ship's front arc)
>As fast and maneuverable as an Assault Frigate Mk. II
>Tied for the best squadron rating in the game
>Have one of the best anti-squadron armaments in the game
>Have an almost-perfect spread of standard upgrade slots

How do I kill one of these things without in turn feeding it kills?

Excellent taste, senpai
>>
>>51057436
Not necessarily the worst... The MC-80 is just more of a bruiser. ISDs are all forward firepower, whereas MC-80s are more like traditional battleships. For the MC-80, it's all about broadsides, and preferably using both at once. But an ISD will outmatch it in a straight up slugging contest, unless you're using someone like Akbar... Then shit gets a bit more complicated... The main downfalls to the ISD are it's flanks. And the -80 usually won't have the speed to get in there and capitalize on that. At least, not without taking some brutal dice pools at first.

>>
>>51057436

Squadrons, Corvettes and MC-30's might be the way forward.

Think like a Rebel. Once you're in a straight up protracted battle with that thing, you're already dead.
>>
So what exactly has caused the meta in X-wing to become so rigid?
>>
>>51059520

Honestly, the X-Wing meta right now isn't "rigid" persay, lots of different ships and lists are winning Regionals right now, had quite a few different lists at Worlds, etc.

But, unless you're doing something limitedly local and know you don't have to deal with it, /x7 Defenders + Palp or triple defenders is a shitload of damage mitigation with 9 dice for Final Salvo if you go to time. It is the sort of list you need to be prepared on some level to handle if you run into it. Because of this, high-powered offense lists like Dengaroo are popular, or guaranteed damage like K-Wing Bombers with Sabine. So the ships and lists are very diverse, but a lot of the tactics have become limited.
>>
>>51059520
There's a lot of variety in regionals right now, but the meta is pretty warped by x7 Defenders and Palp. With that much guaranteed damage mitigation "average" squads stand no chance. Every list has to be built around beating token stacking high agility ships. The variety is there, but it's similarly stifling to have the entire game revolve around 2 upgrades.

Dengaroo and bomb Ks exist almost solely because of this.
>>
>>51059695
>Dengaroo and bomb Ks exist almost solely because of this.
Dengaroo would exist regardless, but bomb Ks are pretty much there only because of Defenders.

Also Trip Defenders with Swarm Leader is going to become the new Triple Scouts in terms of how much firepower it can put out on turn one.
>>
>>51059912

Well, the beauty of x7+Swarm Leader is that ships have to eat their damage mitigation to do it and can't fit Palp - so it'll be a very fragile list. It's powerful, and reliable 5-6 dice but if you can weather that kind of thing opportunities to pop them exist.

But yeah, the question now kind of is, will just time and more cards mean that x7 goes out of style because while it is an efficient list, it's gotten too commonplace so people are readily prepared to take them, x3 Defenders or PalpDefenders are no longer sweeping Nationals and didn't win Worlds.

We should to a line up of the various imperial infantry, like with the TIE types.

Off the top of my head, there's the imperial army with the grey armour, uniform and open faced helmets, navy guys with black open faced helmets and armour, stormtroopers, snow troopers, scout troopers, storm commandos, dark trooper phase 1 and 2, death troopers or whatever the RO ones are called, the tan base guards also from RO, the various TFA troopers, the anti Jedi troopers that show up in one issue of dark empire, the unidentified either loyalist or seperatist troopers with orange helmet marks in a mish mash or storm trooper and scout trooper gear also from dark empire.

The thing about defenders though, is they typically don't have very high PS values unless using their valuable EPT for Vet Instincts. They're good, sure... But triple Defenders are always going to be PS 6 or possibly 7 if they skimp on an ace. This is one of the key things to remember when flying against them, even PS 7 or 8 can react to wherever they move to. As for Evade tokens, they hate Homing Missiles. Latts Razzi
K4 Security Droid
Weapons Engineer
Tactician

Fenn Rau
PTL
Autothrusters
Concord Dawn Protector

Syndicate Thug
TLT
Unhinged Astromech

100 points

Latts scoots about, hindering two targets at a time and stressing. The Y-Wing sticks close, leading the way or tailing to cover. Fenn does Fenn stuff.

If I drop tactician I can give Latts Black Market Slicer Tools and have an initiative bid for Fenn. Just not sure how often it will be useful on such a lumbering ship.

George confirmed for patrician tastes in headwear.

https://www.inverse.com/article/25898-george-lucas-star-wars-rogue-one-helmet-stormtrooper
>>
>>51064409
George has always had a really good eye for aesthetics. It's his writing that leaves a great deal to be desired.q
>>
So are planetary accents old canon (like Obi's coruscanti/English accent, despite being from Stewjon), or is that not a thing
>>
>>51064455
And directing.

George is an idea guy, I guess.
>>
>>51064521
The Twileks of Ryloth have French accents and Pantorans seem to have an accent too, from what I remember.

Also, remember that Obi-Wan may have been born on Stewjon, but he basically hasn't been back since he was a little child, so his accent would very much be informed by Coruscant.
>>
>>51064521
It can be if you want it.
Just to give a bit of flavor to the various species and people who have different dialects and languages. Just be careful you don't make them to obviously one language's accent. Just got done with the Clone Wars cartoon and it was awkward that all the Twileks had French accents or another race had German accents or the one with the bird queen who fucked Jar Jar had stereotypical Jap accents.
>>
>>51064551
>>51064565
I always thought the Twileks had accents reminiscent of formerly French African colonies, or something similar
>>
>>51064628
That may be what they were aiming for, to depict the Twileks as a long-exploited people, but that's hard to get all your actors on the same page for.
It's easier to just give them the direction of "French" and go from there.
>>
Got a lore question this includes EU. Can't ask on /swco/ because canon police everywhere.

What is the primary difference between a concussion missile and a proton torpedo?
>>
>>51064800
Short answer: concussion missiles are used against fighters and soft targets. Proton torpedoes are used against capital ships and other hard targets.
>>
>>51064521
I'm still waiting for stormtroopers calling each other muggy cunts when their officers aren't around.
>>
>>51064409
Lucas has always been considered an excellent producer. You just shouldn't let him direct or write dialogue.
>>
>>51064800
>What is the primary difference between a concussion missile and a proton torpedo?
Size of charge, propulsion system, intended target silhouettes, tracking systems.

I mean the list goes on forever, man.

Torpedos are usually IR ('heat")-tracking and missiles are often (active) radar-based, IIRC EU lore.
>>
>>51064800
>>51064945
I don't believe the EU went into the type of sensors, just that Concs were faster, turned better, but didn't hit as hard as Proton torps. (other than the original RotJ novelization which said the opposite)
>>
>>51064800
piggybacking off that, what's the functional difference between torpedos and missiles in x-wing? Utility and damage values seem to be all over the place with both of them and the only universal traits seem to be that every torpedo requires and spends a target lock while some missiles only require but don't consume or use focus instead.
>>
>>51063681
>But are the fleet command upgrades for the Pelta that tough to deal with? (And if so, which ones?)

The one that completely negates the interdictor (a ship that wasn't even necessary to hard counter) for a whole 5 points.

>>51065057
>The one that completely negates the interdictor (a ship that wasn't even necessary to hard counter) for a whole 5 points.
Say what now?
>>
>>51065086
Entrapment formation
>>
>>51064945
Torpedoes are also (iirc) more advanced, more powerful warheads. While Missiles are usually shorter ranges, and older technology.
>>
>>51064922

I'd argue that even his directing abilities are fine; THX-1138, American Graffitti and the first Star Wars certainly turned out alright.

His main problems are writing - specifically dialogue and romantic relationships - and tendancy to succumb to the temptation of style over substance (the excessive cgi in the prequels). And he likes to appeal to kids when he can which isn't necessarily an objectively bad thing but obviously rubs a lot of us 'space opera is serious business' guys the wrong way.
>>
>>51065022
Toros, outside of the oddball seismic, are all 2-3 range iirc. So they are long range only. Their all do damage equal to their hit, missiles are more diverse. So Toros are all about big damage while missiles can be complex.
Also the Toronto slot opens up extra unitions.

>>51065143
I always figured missiles were more maneuverable but had smaller payloads while torpedoes had much bigger punch but little to no guidance.

That's why torps are reserved for bigger, hard targets and missiles can be more useful in dogfights.
That's also why in Xwing Torpedoes always required you to spend a target lock to fire but several missiles don't (while doing less dmg ofc)

Functionally, I don't think there is much difference than opportunity.

I mean, if you want to get baseline, Conc Missiles and Proton Torps cost the same amount of points, have the same range and the same dice, but Missiles let you switch a blank to a hit (more accuracy), but Torps switch a Focus to a Crit (more critical damage at the right moment, but not always a positive result).

Other than that, missiles earlier tend to have higher cost and more utility, though now both have a decent spread or secondary effect - but as you say Missiles have more cards which do not require the spending of target locks (either through Attack Focus or just not using the lock). Torpedoes on the other hand currently have the only Action: ordinance in Seismic Torpedoes. Oh, and like >>51065143 said, Torpedoes consistently are range 2-3, 3-4 dice which tend to also have an on-hit effect - exceptions are the APT and Seismic, which are 1 and 1-2. Missiles are all over the gaff.

It's mostly just a fluff slot - interceptor/light fighters tend to have missile slots, though if an imperial fighter only has the one sort of ordinance it'll likely be a Missile - Torpedoes are common on most rebel fighters and are for multirole/heavy fighters/bombers usually. There's no rhyme or reason to the slots on large ships - that just whatever the manufacturers or pilots decided to cram in there.
>>
>>51065194

Well, based on the in-game comparison >>51065222 this would probably be a decent comparison.

Missiles are lighter, faster, better for catching agile targets but don't pack as much punch against heavier ones, while a torpedo is heavier, might be slower and require more precision in picking your shot but when used right they tend to inflict more serious damage.

In the X-Wing novels, you usually have to catch a eyeball or squint pilot by surprise to hit him with a torp - but capital ships are chump change before a decent torpedo volley.

>THX-1138, American Graffitti and the first Star Wars certainly turned out alright.
I think American Graffiti is the outlying datum and for what it's worth, so don't George's cohort. Several people in his inner circle lamented that Lucas got so caught up in trying to be great that he stopped being good.

American Graffiti is a great film, but in large part despite of Lucas rather than because of him. Again, ad-libbing played a huge role.

Star Wars was mostly directed by the 2nd and 3rd unit directors; we know that now.

Hey SWG, i have been avoiding it for a while now but am finally considering jumping into XWM to justify picking up a few models. Is there any good in a shadow caster and A wing list? If i take the plunge should i get a starter set for any reason?

I saw a shadow caster at the store today and just finally reached the boiling point dammit.
>>
>>51065952

> Is there any good in a shadow caster and A wing list?

No because in XWM the Shadowcaster is Scum and the A-Wing is Rebels, so unless you get some friends to agree to some very interesting home rules, they are incompatible. On their own, As or the Shadowcaster are pretty solid though, double Shadowcasters or with Protectorates could be a thing.

> If i take the plunge should i get a starter set for any reason?

Yes, you will need a Core set in order to actually play the game, because it has rules, dice, movement templates, etc.
>>

Scum has the Most Wanted set, which comes with 2 headhunters and a Y-wing, as well as dials & pilot cards for the HWK-290 & Firespray (but not the models). Its effectively the "Scum Starter" set and has a bunch of good stuff in it, except it lacks the Dice, measurement rulers, damage cards, and rules of either of the two core sets.

Which, sucks if you're just looking at going Scum without going with Rebs or Imps, since it means you have to buy a core box AND Most Wanted.

But its better to go into the store knowing that rather than buying Most Wanted and wondering where the hell the rules are.

personally i feel like missiles and torps should have all had cancel all dice and deal x damage effects.
The ordnance either hits you or it doesn't, its not like blaster fire whete you could be grazed by only 1 or 2 bolts.

then you could distinguish missiles from torps by making one high accuracy low damage and the other the inverse. So say the default missile was 4 dice attack that if it hits deals 2 damage, good for agile targets. Torps 2 die attack that deals 4 damage for use against capital ships or other big slow targets.

Oh yeah, fighters were treated like their own thing rather than a resource attached to a certain ship.
I did like that you could control things like that, but in the late game, I often found myself with a bunch of ISDs with only 3 squadrons attached and had to run back to a system with a free shipyard to build some.
Or scrape some off of a local garrison. Which, again, had to be manually maintained.

My thought is to set the meat of the first missions on a single planet where all the characters are gathered together, an outer rim world like Lothal or Tatooine with less crime. Not much of interest to the empire or rebellion, guarded by only a light imperial garrison who I was thinking of maybe being commanded by a grumpy old vet from the clone wars. An attack by pirates brings all of the player characters together

Not the quality of it - it's pretty decent. But the overuse. The waste. The composite shots, the thousands of microedits to every signle scene with real actors in it.

Managing to fight a war against a united galactic republic and win at all, especially once the Jedi are fully deployed, it pretty impressive.

I think the Separatists were also hoping for a decapitation strike, to shatter the Republic completely, rather than conquer it system by system.

I put time into photoshopping it to look prettier, too. Everybody wins.

Cigar humidor, old vending machine guts stuffed into a wall, so that it dispenses a beer every time you hit the right spot, the kid of a previous owner rerouted some shit to make hisself a nice little hideout in the walls, a still, a stash with more holo and simstim porn than the PCs have ever seen before, six hundred fancy cock drawings behind a panel by previous mechanics, twenty gallons of bourbon hidden by an old crewmember never got the chance to drink it, a locker full of old clothing would maybe be worth a few on the space hipster market.

I almost always upgrade the life support systems on my Star Wars ships. It's basically never a bad decision.

Most of the mods I do tend to be things that don't really have mechanical benefits. Changing double bunks to triples, external cargo pod mounts, upgrading from Dejarik 1.0 to Dejarik 3.4 Collector's Edition, etc.

The most significant change I made was moving the boarding ramp on a ship so you didn't fall to your death coming out of the cockpit.

desu once your ship has a couple of good laser cannons and concussion missile launchers, there's not a whole lot you need to do to it.

I had a sith named Darth Anibus. The crew found him in a sith holocron on a old ship that was pretty much the Occurance Boarder from Shoggys All guardsmen party.

The Party hated him when he possessed the Female (real female) zeltron. Her fiance in game wanted Anibus out so he built a force didlo to try to get the spirit to leave. Mostly all he did was get his future wife to orgasm.

In the end the sith spirit left willingly. he didn't want anyone dead. He just wanted the party to kill his bitch ex wife who was in hiding on Zoist. She had kept herself alive over the centuries by possessing treasure hunters bodies.

Once the party did it, he left. The female zeltron player told me later she was sad he was gone.

>>
>>51074785
See, that's completely different - your knowledge of alchemy can be used to advance the Sith cause.

A librarian... knows how to find the books they've collected? Whoopdedoo. Your knowledge of the locations of literature you've collected is lost, and you've done nothing for the Sith.
>>
>>51074832

What if the "library" are Sith Holocrons and similar that you've been "reclaiming" from various collectors and the occaisional museum?

But again, that's different from the librarian from the original example, a guy who just sat back and kept the lights on and did nothing.

A Sith who is going out and re-gathering lost Sith teachings is actually doing something that could benefit the Sith. A Sith who sits out of the way practicing alchemy and learning new secrets and records the results is benefiting the Sith.

Mr. Darth Kurator up there isn't doing jack shit.

Both the Jedi and the Sith are monastic organizations based on a strict code/set of beliefs. There are force adepts who are NOT Jedi/Sith who love and hate and fight and farm and have children and defend this or defend that, etc. The Sith are very strict about what they expect, as are the Jedi. But don't forget that most force users in the history of the galaxy have not belonged to either. They may not even know they are force users or develop their powers.
>>
>>51074921
Again, not how Darth Kurator up there posited the idea. Lyssa goes out and does things, the other dude sits back and twiddles his thumbs in the library. He's not researching, he's not adding to their knowledge - he's just kinda... there.

He's not doing anything to further the Sith agenda, he's literally just sitting there doing nothing. He's not going out and getting material to further Sith knowledge, he's not going out and contributing to the Sith agenda by any other actions - he's just "keeping the lights on."

He's effectively just house-sitting for a generation, and that means he's a terrible Sith.

I've only plated 4 times, 2 4 and 2 2, and I would say the 4 player games were more enjoyable and streamlined

I'm looking for a new book to read, which of the books in that Megaupload link should I read? Or should I find a different Star Wars book altogether?

If you can mentally disconnect NuCanon from what it once was i recommend one or more of these:

>X-Wing series
>I, Jedi
>Courtship of Princess Leia (WARNING contains 110% cheese)

>Thrawn Trilogy
>Hand of Thrawn Duology

>Shatterpoint
>Yoda - Dark Rendezvous
>Revenge of the Sith novelization

>Han Solo Trilogy
>Bounty Hunter Wars Trilogy
>Scoundrels
>Shadow Games
>Hand of Judgement Duology (Allegiance & Choice of One)

Would they make good Jedi?

Who would fall to the darkside?
>>
>>51078551
Asuka would definitely fall to the dark side, Rei would make a good OJO Jedi, Shinji is kind of iffy, but I think he'd be okay in agricorp.
>>
>>51078590
Rei would be borderlining dark the entire time because of her background. She might not actually go Sith, but she's definitely at risk of going dark jedi or just losing control due to the inner conflict.
>>
>>51078686
Rei would be dark side only because the guy ordering her around would be clearly dark side. But she wouldn't have the passion to be a true Sith.
Asuka would. But no one would like her despite how hard she tries for approval. Basically Ventris.
Shinji has all the makings to be Luke. Could fall to the dark side, but more than likely would be kept from there because he doesn't want to be like his father.
>>
>>51078551
The OJO wouldn't train any of them because they're too old. NJO might be able to make them work; Rei being a clone isn't as weird in star wars, Asuka is basically a mando so that may or may not be a problem, and Shinji would be counseled by Luke on daddy issues.

Yeah, two parter. /co/ has both.

Also holy shit Rebels remembered Ordinance exists.

Wouldn't he be more comparable to Soros and Clinton?

In terms of Lore, Rebels was actually pretty interesting today. It links to Rogue One, it links to the Vader comic series and of course, bridges back to TCW.

There was also a young, black female ILC commander who got her nose tweaked by the Ghost - we'll have to wait and see if that's the link I think it might be.

It's not Rae Sloane, her name was in the credits.

Oh, and if we're building that list of Stormtrooper variants, we now have Jumptroopers or something again.

Hey, x-wing guys!
Got bored today (snowed in) and wrote up some rules for the R60 T-wing Interceptor. You could probably just proxy Headhunters, but I felt like writing rules, so here you go. Let me know what you think.
>>
>>51079615

That seems like a wasted opportunity. Or just needless confusion.
>>
>>51079629

Well, it has White 2 turns, so I'm, sold.

I guess a 2/2/2/2 makes an okay torpedo swarm list (Using Chips and something cheap like Plasma or Flechette Torps). Is there some reason you did not add boost? Because otherwise, while it seems like a fairly balanced concept it's also not that impressive.
>>
>>51079704
My concept going into making rules for the T-wing was to keep it as cheap and frill-less as possible. A good swarm alternative. I tried sticking as close to the lore as I could.
Giving it Boost would make sense, but I'd figure the points would go up, even if by only 1 or 2 and I wanted this to compete with the Headhunter for a really cheap ship.

Well, this is Star Wars.
>>
>>51079629
Looks overcosted.
a Bandit Squad Headhunter is only 12 points, as this Test Pilot should probably be.
>>
>>51079836

Well, this is like two years before ANH still. Commanding a ship, a CL on solo patrol duty, is pretty decent.

>>51079862

Well, I suppose six degrees of Ghost can actually get unnecessarily convoluted (re: That area in the 1st or 2nd Act of Rogue One) - I'm not sure which is worse.
>>
>>51079925
>>51079757

Yeah, so, other than torpedoes there's no real reason to take this over Zs. Sure, torpedoes on average cost a little less, but almost all of them mean you need to spend target locks.

I say, drop it to 13 points, give it Boost, make sure the pilot is PS2 like most rebel generics. This would put it in direct comparison to a Tala Z, which would have +2 PS, but no boost.
