I was listening to Blind Guardian a few days ago, and decided that their music could, if multiple albums and concepts are taken into account, serve as the basis of a campaign. The problem is, I have no idea where to start in creating the world, other than a few small ideas based on the music. If anyone familiar with the band has any ideas, please help.

Forgot to mention, I'm also adding in other power metal to the mix, since the whole thing first occurred to me listening to "Fiddler On The Green" by Demons and Wizards. Also, no Tolkien, since that's an easy out.

Can't say much about blind guardian, but if you're looking for inspiration from powermetal I recommend Gloryhammer. Their stories about Angus McFife are awesome to use for adventures.

The majority of Blind Guardian's music is references to licensed D&D characters like Raistlin from Dragonlance (Bright Eyes, iirc), or literally an album they made for an actual campaign, and so on. So, yeah, you probably could base a campaign off their songs in the same sense you could base a fanfiction off a book you read.
Power metal does this a lot, come to think of it. Especially "power mithril" breeds of the genre.

You do realize that that's mostly the case because a majority of their songs already base themselves on stories of some kind, right?
I mean apart from the obvious entire Silmarillion album and the many other LotR songs you've got everything from the Wizard of Oz, Arthurian Legend and Norse mythology to the Otherland books or the Dragonlance novels.

The song specifically about Raistlin is The Soulforged FYI. Bright eyes might be too, though, not sure. But Soulforged is pretty explicit.

I'd recommend the 3 songs in the Keeper trilogy by Helloween maybe. There's a medley with all 3 melded into one on the anniversary album.
