Campaign idea:
An unusually restrained Beholder allies with Wizard-merchants to exploit resources of the Underdark. The goal is to hunt down Beholders big and small to harvest their eyes as resources. They hire the brave and the desperate for Underdark operations. Most die, but the survivors get money, contacts and spooky magic eye grafts. However, a large chunk of the Underdark starts to mobilize against the enterprise. The mastermind Beholder doesn't care. It just wants other Beholders to die.
