You can lay Trenches towards the enemy right? Through no man's land? Because you could run through those. Towards the enemy.
>>
Big into cold war history and this game has piqued my interest.
How tropey are the soviets? not a fan of communism but they created some badass equipment.
>>
To answer the anon asking if middlestone would be the same as dunkelgelb primer, I think it should be close enough. Especially if you were running something from late in the war. If you were doing some tanks in middlestone and some in dunkelgelb, you can always play around with drybrushing middlestone or darkening the dunkelgelb primer with a wash if they don't quite match.

Good luck getting dunkelgelb primer from Battlefront. I have been waiting on my order of that and Russian green for months. Just put middlestone over red oxide auto primer. I use Duplicolor.
>>

tropes?

well you get a horde of okay tanks with okay troops. but even your veterans are not veterany enough to get a reasonable skill rating

They can be spammy army, but it's more to do with doctrine in my opinion. The worst memey bit is the massive amount of BMP 2s they can bring, which leave behind a horde of infantry to fight through after you kill them.

They have a wide array of support options even if we don't have some of their cooler toys. Hopefully the next soviet release will add some diversity to the Soviets.

Speaking of Team Yankee we are having a large battle today. The guy who runs our FLGS just made the huge hill as an objective for today.
>>
>>50983602

Right now they're just a horde army, and are missing most of their equipment and elite units.

And speaking of elite units, even the their hardened afghan war war helo troops are somehow less skill/trained than US units that have never seen live combat.

Go figure.
>>
whoops missed the new thread

>>50981996
The flipside of this is it's really hard to argue the colours are inaccurate. So long as it's vaguely yellow, brown/red, and green, it's probably some pigment type they used at some point. Hell, in 1945 stuff was coming out that was virtually white after it'd faded.

This is true of most armies, though. The trick to FoW is to never, ever worry if you're getting paint schemes juuust right, because almost nobody had the correct scheme in real life, either, and even the people who did probably don't remember it perfectly. I was speaking to my great-uncle and showing him my shermans (which are pretty much firefly green like the ones in BF's art) and he said that they were much duller than that, nearly grey.
>>
>>50983827
That's interesting. Do many people here have relatives who were in WW2?
>>
>>50983867
Not that anon but i sure don't.
>>
>>50983867
My grandfather spent some years as a soviet pow.
My other gramps did minor work for the local resistance (against german invaders).
None of my relatives really want to talk about the war.
>>
>>50983867
My grandad was in the far east. Didn't talk about it for most of his life but inferring context from some of the stuff he was saying when the dementia started it was pretty horrific.
>>
>>50983867
Grandfather was infantry: 2nd Batt Essex Regiment, 56th Brigade, 49th British Infantry Division. Made Sergeant by wars end, served till 1948. But he died when I was very young, so most of what I know comes from my father.
>>
>>50983867
Great-Grandfather was a Major in the 2nd AIF, though I can't remember if he was 6th or 9th Division. He died when I was pretty little so most of what I know about his service is secondhand, but I do know he served in Tobruk during its siege.
>>
>>50983262
Tbh that may be the only way to successfully play the Japanese in LW. I've been running them late war and I can actually win without going into the "Hard on for death" mode with the fortified company.
>>
>>50983867
Had a Great-grandfather that was a Seabee in the Pacific. On my other side I had 3 great uncles who were a tank man, fighter pilot and then another who was in the 72nd Quartermaster Battalion which was a segregated unit for Italian Americans. Then I had another Great Grandfather who served in WWI and suffered a gas attack. He had lung problems his whole life but lived until 92. Grandfather severed in the Navy in Korea. He had a shell blow up in his face and his ship blew up. He was one of the few survivors. He had bad PTSD. Then another grandfather who was in the Navy but never active. Last person in my family to join was my cousin but he tried to hang himself in boot camp. Such is life.
>>
>>50983867
Grandfather was Royal Navy. Atlantic/Artic Convoys, Some stuff in the Med with Sicily Landings, Normandy Landings as LCA Coxswain and finally the Pacific during late '44-45.
>>
>>50983867
Not WW2, but one of my grandfathers served in Indonesia during the anti-independence actions postwar as a conscript.
He was apparently part of a maintenance unit (he'd learned to maintain engines at any rate) but still never felt like talking about that time.
>>
>>50983867
one grandfather fought for Ustase after leaving the italian army. the other fought for yugoslav partisans.

i always wondered if they ever shot at eachother.

Grandfather was on the HMNZAS Achilles at River Plate and then during the war. One of his brothers was captured on Crete, the other one was in Italy and at Cassino.

gonna do a shitpost: glorious new year shitpost!

dunno if we ever did this. You get your -Own Personal Tank!-, ala Girls und Panzer.
no girls requirement for you. just answer the below and let's see what we all come up with! oh, must be 1945 or earlier, BTW.

>YOUR TANK
>Your Custom color scheme
>any cool accesories?
>commander: defaults to you, but you can be another crew spot instead...
>you may pick anyone to be gunner, driver, etc. per tank: each tank has different crew sections.
>(other anons have to accept invite as crew, but any other person/character can be a crewmate)
>....
>What music blares from your speakers as you pass the burning enemy?
>>
>>50983650
Not to mention dunkelgelb was one of the least standardized colors modelers have ever had to work with. You know how the GF9 TANKS game has some Germans cast in a yellowish dunkelgelb and others in a greenish dunkelgelb (just the Panther/Jagdpanther, I think)? There are people who will tell you that both are accurate, just from different factories.

>>50983867
I have a few great uncles on both sides of the Spanish Civil War. One, a republican, was given the choice to rot in prison or sign up for the Blue Division - he signed up. Sounds weird, but there was a bit of competition between the professional military and the Falangist party for representation in the division and that's why the army resorted to sending leftists. The Falangists were mostly sending university students (less disciplined, more prone to heroics) and they're the ones who wore the blue shirts the division was named after. We think he may have been at Lake Ilmen where only 10-20 out of a couple hundred guys made it through without being knocked out of action by frostbite. He made it back, was given a job by the government, and never talked about it much. Said it was sometimes too cold to shoot rifles and fought with grenades and bayonets.

Man, we have to get a Panzerfunk wagon!

Main contributors are Eagles, Virus, Marquod, sometimes me, sometimes you Bartosz, sometimes Hungariboo, occasionally Steelwhip, plus some others on older episodes who can't make it as often any more. So if we're looking at 6 or 7 crew, it's probably got to be an M3 Lee.

No idea who sits where though...

Step-Grandfather was with the British Army of the Rhine as a Vickers Gunner. Great Uncle was with the Guards in Borneo, Malaya and Northern Ireland as a officer.
I never asked him about it when I was younger because I wasn't aware of the significance. But when I was older, I was aware of the significance and didn't ask him about it.

It'a a bit of a shame that the morale rules and stickiness of infantry in team yankee results in traffic jams and prevents penetration and maneuver by NATO tanks.

The guy who runs our game store is also an artist and is absolutely a genius at terrain making and table building. We are very lucky to have him.

The way TY coherency works means that most soviet platoons will end up overly-clumped. Having 15 BMPs clustered in a 6" bubble is always going to look kind of goofy.

My grandfather's brother (granduncle?) was radio operator for the Italian army, he was somewhere in Jugoslavia when Italy surrended, he had to return home by foot disguising as a civilian to not be discovered by germans, almost getting caught and shot in the process. Never had a chance to talk to him though about it, he had Alzheimer and died when i was young.

>>50983867

Grandma's brother was in Africa, with the Indians. Survived two landings in Italy and then spent some time in BAOR later. All secondhand from grandma; had something up with his blood from malaria medication he'd been given in italy and died when I was about six.

My grandpa wasn't old enough for WW2, but he was in the RAF for most of his life, and was in the falklands and gulf wars. He's the reason I was uncomfortable with wargames for a long while. Whenever he was open about the stuff he'd seen and done it was never good.

Where can I learn more about the development of TY? Now that many of the parts I specifically hate about the system (inability to sensibly deploy or remove company-level units) are being ported, I'd like to know:
>why is command range so wonky?
>why are the morale rules so wonky?
In both cases these changes only negatively impact games where Soviets are involved--a blue on blue fight should not degenerate into parking lots flailing at blobs that never test morale. I have already talked to some of the BF employees I know about the points change, and that was because of X-Wing. Sadly I have not sat down with them since TY launch, and at that time I didn't yet grasp how obnoxious those two things are.

I was attacking as Soviet Tanks against his combined British infantry and tank force.

Things did not end well for my Soviets. All the lines of advance were either mined, heavily defended, or both.

In hindsight I think we might have over done it on how dense we made the city, but it certainly looked impressive considering it is mostly Dropzone Commander cardboard buildings.

I don't know, but morale is definitely one of those things that feels off to me. Everyone at my club had been playing blue-on-blue and we were kind of bemused when soviet platoons wouldn't die.

Morale needs to be revisited. Particularly dug in gone to ground infantry are sticky against armor. Main guns from tanks have less than a 10% chance to kill Soviets per shot if they don't have brutal. Not to mention the player can deflect casualties onto rifle teams to keep their RPGs up.

In our scenario yesterday a soviet company held up multiple armor platoons until we move Gepards forward and threw dozens of dice out to kill them. If I find myself in the same position I think I will just pin them with arty and charge in with Leo 2's.

Brits are looking especially nasty to try to assault as each tank round will have less than a 5% chance to kill (without brutal). With all the attachments, killing them beyond 3 stands will be tough, and I am not sure you want to try assaulting them with tanks as long as they have Carl Gustavs. I am looking forward to getting some games in against them to see what strategies will work.
>>
It's weird for me because my group hasn't encountered any of the problems other groups are reporting with TY.

We've had no problem shooting soviet platoons off the table. If anything it seems to us that NATO platoons are too easy to shoot off.

Assaults are a bit different but no major problems found. Generally your better off trying to shoot stuff rather than assault though.

Command feels wonky but we haven't noticed it hurting the soviets beyond virtually guaranteeing bumper to bumper parking lots.

Air seems hit or miss with most of us deciding it's not worth the points.

Personally I think part of this is players having their habits and expectations set by FoW and getting tripped up by them when playing TY.
>>
>>51003595
It's the usual jumping to conclusions too soon.

In our first game (his second) my friend declared NATO op and soviets a waste of plastic just because he fucked up his deployment and was put in a bad spot.
I had to intentionally fuck up my MBT facings so he could kill off my tanks and not ragequit.

He later gave me some pointers about how to play since I made some "idiotic mistakes".

Decided I'm building a West German force for Team Yankee. Already got an American tank army. Rate my potential list.

Marder Panzergrenadierkompanie:
HQ G3 team, Marder (1 pt)
3x MG3, 2x Milan, 3x Marder (7 pts)
3x MG3, 2x Milan, 3x Marder (7 pts)
3x Jaguar 2 (5 pts)

Leopard 2 Panzerkompanie
HQ Leopard 2 (11 pts)
2x Leopard 2 (22 pts)
2x Leopard 2 (22 pts)
2x Luchs (1 pt)
2x Luchs (1 pt)
3x M109G (7 pts)
4x Gepard (10 pts)
4x Redeye (4 pts)
1x M113 OP (1 pt)
4x Tornado (8 pts)

Firstly, did this on my phone and holy fuck does auto correct hate German names for anything. Secondly, I know my platoons need more evenly distributed between the two companies. Lastly, holy fuck the Germans get a lot of shit.

>we haven't noticed it hurting the soviets beyond virtually guaranteeing bumper to bumper parking lots.
That's actually what I was complaining about when I first introduced this complaint to the thread. Being rewarded for parking lots IS a negative.
>>
>>51004407
There needs to be a middle ground between parking lots and daisy chains.

Maybe a larger overall distance.

Or a smaller tank-to-tank distance that still lets you spread out a bit.
>>
>>51005731
Basically all TY's scale issues vanish if you play in 6mm, at least.

Though, what was wrong with daisy chains? It produced a lot of relatively decent looking formations when there wasn't too much terrain and it wasn't soviet.

I play British, late war. How important is the skill rating for infantry? I have only played confident vets, and I found often that I don't have enough platoons. How bad is the drop from veteran to trained?
>>
>>51007288
Basically every time you drop a rating your hits double.
>>
>>51007457
That doesn't pan out, it goes from 50% to 66.6%. I was looking for a more specific answer.
>>
>>51007671
Well, he kind of means when you're including modifiers.

Gone to ground concealed veterans are 6s, same trained is 5s. Double the chances to hit.

At long range, the vets are untouchable and the trained can be hit at all
>>
>>51007699
Ah. So is the bump down worth it?
>>
>>51007741
Well, they've got the same infantry save. If dug in and needing firepower checks they can still be a good roadblock.

The skill rating makes you hit on 4s instead of 3s in assaults as well, so keep that in mind.

It's gonna be up to you if it's worth it but if you get some more support that can definately even the playing field.

I miss this table at the battleforge. Those of you who remember when I first showed up on here might remember the "wall of flames" that I posted that was something like 30 feet long of flames of war blisters and about 6 feet tall. This is that store.

They have some of the best terrain I've ever had access to, and most definitely the most in just sheer amount. Really need to head back up to Lex sometime and get some games in there.

DZC sells a cardboard city set that's like $40 if I remember right. I have a copy and it has a ton of "tiles" too so you can design city streets and whatnot. I don't play team yankee but if people would like comparison shots I can build a sample table in a half hour or so and take pictures with a bunch of my WWII stuff for comparisons.
>>
>>51008669
Yup, they have both clean and battered city sets that provide enough 1ft square double-sided tiles and cardboard buildings to fill a 6ft x 4ft table.
We have 2 of them at our FLGS, primarily for Dropzone use.

Pretty nice for a variety of rulesets.
Also not that expensive for a whole tableful of terrain, though I feel adding some low cover to it works wonders for adding tactical challenges.

My grandfather was on the HMS Leopoldville. Troop carrier that got torpedoed in the English Channel on its way to the battle of the Bulge. Granddad survived by jumping to the deck of a destroyer (I think) that moved close to try and rescue people. His unit lost so many men they spent the rest of the war in France guarding the remains of a German unit trapped on a mountain.

You have 10 platoons, so dropping the Pioneers to bump up something else would probably be fine (assuming tourney or some situation where you care about exact point count)
>>

He was in the 66th division when the Leopoldville went down. I think they merged some units after that but I don't know the details.
>>
>>51013171
I meant trained, shit.

Why drop pioneers?
>>
>>51013902
Commonwealth Pioneers are Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.
They're a tiny platoon at four teams. One of which can be a flame thrower. They do fuck all, they can't even take out Anti-Tank Obstacles due to their low numbers. If you want pioneering, get some AVREs, if you want flamethrowers, get some Wasps or Crocodiles.
>>
>>51014030
>>51013902
What Virus said. Only brit pioneers really worth taking are the Airlanding Royal Engineers, since they come in large enough platoon sizes to do stuff, and can get pioneer supply vehicles. And, of course, those are pretty much only available to the Paratrooper/Airlanding lists and such.
>>

>>

>>51009015
Yeah, they are a nice spread. I played on them when playing DZC.

I would want to get a few other random vehicles to scatter about and act as terrain(like some cars). Anyone know any good suggestions?

>>51014030
>Crocodiles
But then you'd be taking a British tank in a British list, and that's just silly.
>>
>>51016082
No then you'd be taking the best British tank.
Sure it's slow tank and top armour one, but you're FA: 13, wide tracks, five flamethrower shots, no fuel tank rule. You're immune to the FlaK 88/Kwk 34, the Panther at long range, PaK 40s, Early 17pdrs, 85mm D-5T gun, and stand a good chance of bouncing the Kwk 43 88mm, late 17pdr, even the big 105mm FlaKs, 125mm PaK44 you have a chance against. Plus you can use them as gun tanks to undig AT guns, artillery and machine guns. Infantry hate these fucking things.
>>
>>51016082
go on ebay and look up model railway cars and other things like that. I can't remember what specifically I saw, but I remember seeing a deal of like 100 cars that was stupid cheap on there one time when I was looking for terrain for DZC

>>51003958
2 Leopard platoons are risky, anon. One bail and you have to test morale. Do you plan to try to keep your formation commander close for the reroll?

I also would suggest the LARS or panzerwerfers over the battery of 3 M-109s. In my personal experience getting more hits is more valuable than the better firepower. 2/3 of the time when you hit, you aren't even making it to the firepower test. But if you want them to threaten tanks, keep the M-109s.

Take a peek at Panzertruppen. There are some interesting list options in it.
>>
>>51016954
Sorry I meant to say 2+ save for the formation commander, not a reroll.

>>51032270
They have issues with a lot of the gameplay design decisions and how things look on the table.

They abhor on-board artillery, and the way tanks can get closely packed together in "parking lots".

Also, fairly or unfairly, they view FoW as Hollywood History: The Game.

>>51032434
It just seemed odd to me. Like he would basically only play LW so he could take Shermans. Our group discussed doing EW stuff and he was instantly out because he couldn't have Shermans(not even joking).

I just hardly ever see Brit players take unqiue Brit tanks like Churchills, Cromwells or Crusaders. Although maybe that's just my scene which does, admittedly, seem to be full of tourny players which might skew things a tiny bit.
>>
>>51032468
pretty sure it's because if someone is positive about FOW they'd already be posting here. And to be fair, those complaints are absolutely valid. I know I hate the parking lots and not having an option to put all artillery offboard is pretty stupid.

They're not enough to make me quit the game, but they bug me pretty much every game. It's started causing me to avoid bringing artillery entirely in favor of air support or just mortars (although even those are often too close, at least there's an excuse there) and with tanks I just take higher veterancy levels so I can spread them out better.
>>
>>51034373
i've actually only ever seen carparks in deployment.

but yeah very true. arty should be located in the next house over scale wise. we have a house rule about off table arty. you still pay the points but only the spotter is on table.

>>51034738
Or, crazy thought, make it where taking out the spotter gives penalties to calling it in (which is already a thing for most armies), or treating it like air support, or even combining those. There are several ways you could take artillery off the board and yet still allow ways to counter it, including "counterbattery" and air support options to be used to counter it. It's not like the moment it's not on the table it's suddenly invincible. Especially if it needed to be called in like air support, with you rolling a reserve table to see if you qualify for a fire mission or not.

Because having artillery with a range capability of several miles being within charging distance of infantry is absolutely stupid. Almost as stupid as having anything bigger than mortars available for fire at a moment's notice. Making it where players have to bid for artillery support like we do with air support would mesh with what players are used to, take artillery off the table, give ways to counter it (I can roll my arty dice against yours to suppress your battery, just like air support) and cuts down on rules that need to be remembered. It would also allow you to actually field a Soviet artillery battery without taking up a quarter of your fucking deployment zone.

Literally the only excuse that it hasn't been done is because Battlefront wouldn't be able to sell artillery models.

It's just bad game design from a historical standpoint being used as an excuse to have the batteries on table. Now, I'm not saying that artillery shouldn't be on the table ever, many guns had a history of being able to be used with open sights and were actually used in that way, but it most certainly should not be the de facto way that artillery is used.

Sorry but this is my biggest gripe with the game and it still annoys me that Battlefront refuses to change this.
>>
>>51034738
to be fair our rules didn't make artillery invulnerable and added penalty to it. but artillery is usually taken out on the operational level rather than tactical level.

treating it like air support would be the best bet from an official rules perspective
>>
What is your favorite model to build?

the italian "suck my spaghetti and meatballs from over a metre away" Lancia da 90/53.

fucking OP for its period and looks as ridiculous as anything from the italians should.
>>
>>51037266

My favourite model that I've built recently has been the plastic Puma. Goes together very nicely, and barring some minor details (e.g. smoke dischargers on the turret) looks great. I've also liked all of the TY stuff I've assembled, except the Rapiers.

For painting, I had a great time painting up my King Tigers. They're big enough that you can really go to town giving them some character.
>>
>>51037266

Any Battlefront plastic has been a joy to build for me, aside from the T-34. They put the spruce connections right on the corner of the turret, which takes forever to clean up. The Leo 2 has been my favorite I guess (Puma and Panther have been really good).

I like painting T-34s because it is so simple, but I have also really enjoyed painting my StuGs. I am not a good painter by any stretch of the imagination, but I used the open fire guide to doing a soft edge camo and it worked out well enough for my tastes.

To play, I would have to say the Luchs armored car. People are worried about recon in V4, but in TY the Luchs can fly around the board with its ridiculous road dash. The 20 mm cannons are adequate to harass infantry and BMPs, you get an AA mg on each one, and they only cost a point. On top of that they get a spearhead deployment, and when you have 4 units of them you can double your deployment zone in certain scenarios.
>>
what do you duded do with your spare parts from sprues etc? i got.a mountain of left over plastic but not actually anything i could turn into a full vehicle or anything

I love coming up with uses for spare parts.

>entire top part of a tank
put on large base, add stockade made out of match sticks to hide sides and voila, a dug in tank objective

>entire top part of tank
or as with my SU-85s, I just bought a blister of special T-34 tracks and built the rest of the undercarriage out of plasticard. Easy peasy 5 new tonks.
>tracks
stowage on other tanks

>hatches
great to add on other tanks, home made bunkers and fortifications etc

>random bits
Stowage, buried on bases as part of basing.
If I have an extreme amount of it I stack em on a large base or scenery as a spare parts depot.

>random bits
Also great to use in other systems and scales for kitbash and convertions. Pimped my Epic Knights with russian tank fenders as shoulder pads.

>leftover guns from gun teams
Just make a gunshield from plasticard and add leftover wheels or mount on home made emplacement made out of sprues. Lack of details on the home made parts is easily obscured behind weathering and tarps and shit.

>leftover mgs/hmgs/.50s
+matchsticks and some basing = hmg nest
+some sprue bits and leftover mans = tripod mounted hmg team (made pic related wholly out of spare bits)

I live for this shit, getting use out of leftovers is fun as hell!
>>
>>51038055
Yeah but keep in mind you dont have to clean up the t34 turret completely. To quote battlefront "Don't worry if the edges of the turret top pieces are a little messy; real T-34s had a prominent weld bead along this line."
>>
>>51038427

Yeah but the weld bead is all along the turret seam, not just one lump right at the middle. Seems like subsequent sprue connections have all been better placed and less beefy than the T-34s.

Tornadoes aren't really worth their points, neither Redeyes when you can have 2 Ghepards more and Ghepards can fire on ground units too. M109s are meh, i would prefer LARS since they fire salvos and hit more stuff thus pinning more stuff and can take minelets wich are a good battlefield control tool. If you want you can also trade Marders for M113 to get an extra Milan, take a look at Panzertruppen.
>>
>>51040104
I swear by Redeye teams. You can forward deploy them off a spearhead in a good location toward the center of the map and leave them dug in. You'll have nice AA coverage over the board for the points you spend on them, leaving your Gepards to cover you expensive Leo 2's.

First part, yes. Grognards tend to scorn FoW because it's essentially "1:100 historical, with 40k rules". Second part, no. "Hipster elitism" and historical gaming, do not go hand in hand.

A lot of the historical buffs who would play FoW, don't because:
1) Microarmor is a better scale for this kind of shit, especially TY or AIW era.
2) Because they want to play more historical Soviets who "are not pants-on-head retarded".
3) Because they like a lot more grit to their systems, and a lot less gamey bullshit.

Anon here. I know the tank platoons of 2 is risky, but I'm relying on the morale/ motivation and can't really seem to efficiently squeeze in 5 Leopard 2s into the list elsewise. I guess I could always just do 1 HQ tank and a 3 tank platoon, and the last model won't see action. I picked the Tornados because I have seen them used to insanely powerful effect when utilized properly. The alternative is a pair of extremely fragile helicopters. I prefer conventional artillery over rocket arty for the firepower and the ability to hurt tanks. Also, read Panzertruppen, but I prefer Marders over M113s.
>>
>>51040007
To be fair artillery doesn't need to be on table in order to be used, usually you use observers. Bringing actually artillery guns in most situations is a bad idea unless you're soviets who can upgrade theirs into having AT ammo and vice versa for fairly cheap.

Everything else is obviously pretty hollywood though.

i mean... fow isn't hyper realistic. i think it hits the sweet spot between sim and game. micro armour is cool but a lot of the simulation games are just as unrealistic but also you gotta track the status of 100 different units.
range is better though i'll give them that. also 6mm makes me moist

So, Team Yankee aircraft.

The rules for Strike Aircraft on p71 say that they fly off after conducting a strike. Fair enough, I'd missed that.

So do you then roll again on subsequent turns to see whether they've refueled and re-armed? Or are they still in the vicinity (similar to "loitering")?

The FM101 question about repeating bombardments implies that they can re-enter and re-attack comparatively freely.

Althoug this appears to be a noob trap list, I just really want to use Tarczay's 5x Panther company after using the assault pancakes for the most part. Problem is, my list is more or less boned against vet infantry dug in. Any improvements, or will my recon and nebs at least mitigate this enough to run 5x Panthers?
>>
>>51044971
Also I think a lot of it is FOW is clearly large enough (barely) in popularity to have it's own persistant general thread. Historical general tends to be more of a collection point for games like ASL, Microarmor, Bolt Action, Napoleonics, and other less popular games, that would otherwise get one or two responses before dropping off the board.
>>
>>51049391
Well maybe they should play less boring less Autistic games. Well, at least in the case of Napoleonics. Their players are always running out the damn clock in tournaments in the local area and are never prepared to help clean up the damn space.

I know you have options for Zrinyis somewhere but that doesn't really solve your problem of being tired of using them. You also should have access to elite pioneers, but then you're losing either your AAA or your nebs.

About your only saving grace is Tarczay gets that reroll on the side armor in assault, but that's only specifically when charging guns. Sadly, his rules really only work in a Tiger, when the whole reason he's well known for is the Panther.

If it was 1750 or something i think you could make it work but at 1500 you're basically just stuck with hoping you roll up against an enemy medium tank list.

BF is comically mismanaged, at least in terms of supply. Like how my store ordered Tanks in the first hour, got none, and a calm conversation as to why got heated when it turned out that the company did not know how pre-orders were sorted. That is, nobody we could find was able to give an answer as to how the inherited warehouse computer determined which lucky customers got product and in what order. Something about the only person who could operate it being in another country so nothing could be done.

I've said this before, but I deal with these people a lot and it gets tedious.

>>
>>51056205

Everyone starts somewhere. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smgQiGABQMs

On the one hand, practice, ask questions (gets comments on your list before a game; after a game: "what did I do well", "what could I have done better", "what would you have done in my position"), and try to play good players - even when you lose (and you will) you will learn things.

On the other hand, if winning isn't important to you, play scenario-type games, play massively unbalanced games where the aim is to survive until Turn 4; just enjoy the game as it is, or focus on the modelling and painting sides.

But we've all sucked at things, a lot. At least you have self-awareness to know that you *currently* suck.

He's fielding them in a Panzer Platoon (see. p. 73 Grey Wolf) equipped with StuGs, where you can take 3-5 vehicles.

Some Panzer and Panzergrenadier units received StuGs instead of Panzer IVs as German industry could not produce enough actual tanks, so they had to equip with assault guns instead.

Do the Strelkovy, Motostrelkovy, Shtraf, Tank Rider, Sapppers, Spetsnaz share the same box (same models or miniatures) or are they separated?
>>
>>51068940
Spetznaz would most likely have different uniforms (one pice camo coveralls) than the rest, but other than that, it's russian infantry uniforms for the lot. (well, some extra equipment for the sappers, possibly).
>>
>>51068940
Strelk and motostrelk do. Shtraf are part of the late war set of sculpts, tank riders are too, but different poses, sappers are two different sets (all war which are as the strelk, but some have molotovs and satchel charges), and the late war ones are different sculpts with diggers and metal detectors. The spetsnaz are a mixture of the scouts sculpts and newer helmeted figures, and these wear one-piece camo suits, so are different from the strelk and shtraf.

>>
>>51070880
BF, if you have the cash.

PSC are more or less indistinguishable for the modern kits, but the Strelk are some of their first and have annoying two-piece construction. They're "fine" scale instead of more "heroic" proportions BF uses, as well, so they look a bit gangly compared to their counterparts (this also changed later).

BF's americans are just straight-wrong, and their original german box is inferior to their grenadiers in normandy/early war/fallschirm boxes. Their brits are solid.

I really like PSC's ZIS-2/3 kit and their 45 mm AT guns. They don't sell the higher caliber guns. I would also recommend the PSC heavy weapons boxes for the Soviets. You get 4 x light, medium, and heavy mortars along with 4 maxims and 8 AT riflemen.

BF do very nice 57mm Zis-2 and 76mm Zis-3,both plastic with plastic crews and resin command/staff figures: great kits. They also do a 122mm/152mm kit which is also very nice.

You're cool, man. I may need to assemble some mortar teams and such. Gotta dig into my stuff and see what I need.

I won't even be able to play until next weekend. Got my step-daughter this weekend so it'll be a day of fun and LEGO at my place.

i forgot to namefag, sorry.

we could actually give it a bit....my list of to-assemble is some 17 tanks, 2 gunwagons, and an old-assed 25pdr set. if we do my standing "light brigade list only, it's a mere 17 plastic tanks...

and i have other stuff to do, like paint my team yankee, and my secret project. but, i could prioritize for another /fowtg/ generallismo....

1500pts EW? worst case, i have Hellfire and Back.
it's got italians.

Good deal, it's usually LW with some MW. I don't know about TY because I haven't been there in awhile due to college, but last time they had a demo, and I know at least two people have TY armies.
