Reposting in fresh thread.
I need to trim around 45pts from the list (hence listing all the wargear ugrades, I know it's frowned upon generally) but I can't find extraneous things. General list crit also very much appreciated, this is an attempt at a fluffy list that isn't too shit, mostly facing other infantry heavy armies with a few tanks mixed in. List in next post because it's too long otherwise. Hopefully fixed the formatting this time.

When did HH books from BL fucked up?
>>
>>50976957
When did learning from school did you?
>>
>>50976957
The magic ended with Descent of Angels. It exposed at the same time just how bad this series can be, and how far away from the plot the authors were allowed to go.
>>
>>50976957
I liked Legion but I think that book was really the point where BL editors just green lit anything the writers would come up with and so we got useless plots that go nowhere and add bloat and complication to a story that doesnt need to have any of that. After that the quality went downhill for most books and we got nothing but short stories for a long ass time and all the stupid additions really proved that trying to add depth to characters that were ultimately plot devices (Like the Emperor) was a mistake.

It has focused too much on Primarchs where it should be a bit more like the first books that tried to tell a story from the point of view of a 'nobody' like Loken, a story of people during the Heresy and not an orgy of exposition on the Horus Heresy via Primarchs showing their point of view and ultimately humanizing a mythical figure that should've stayed mythical. Thats something that Horus Rising did well, it showed Horus not as a character but an impression of a character, you didnt know Horus but you liked him, you had the idea that this guy was the best there was and thats how it should have been for the rest of the series.

How much is normal for kitting out your HQ (Space Marines specifically), if at all? I'm new, but it looks like invincible Death Stars aren't as easy to make, so what role do HQs usually fit into? Just go with a Tac Squad or something?
>>
>>50977875
I don't even need better gear or anything. I just want a champion-y 2W dude in my command squad, but the RoW I'd like to use has my two HQ slots filled.

If consuls could be taken two-to-a-slot it'd be enough.
>>
>>50977604
You know what would be cool? If they removed the standard bearer from the command squad and allowed the "sergeant" to take one of the consul upgrades. He'd keep his own stats and options, but would get all the benefits of the consul.

Or just give them all two wounds and make them all Characters.
>>
>>50977963
Outside of knights and krios venators does mechanicum have any real solution to heavy armour?
>>
>>50978062
Oh, we have plenty. OR Medusas are OK, Kraken lightnings are excellent, Arlatax have Armourbane melee, Ursarax have S10 and lots of it, Grav-myrmidons and Thallax can chip in, graviton Myrmidons are death on legs with two haywire blasts each, Vulturax haywire gun, Magos Reductor buffs for Sunder and +1 damage table and every Cybernetica MC has Smash. Also Decima, if anyone ever brings him.

If anything it's easier to ask what doesn't have anti-tank capabilities. For Flare Shielded AV14, less so, but I certainly have little trouble with anything short of full Iron Hands tank/dread spam.

What's the consensus on this, can a Vigilator Consul take an Artificer Armour and still retain Infiltrate and Move Through Cover?

Standard Forgeworld answer

>If it doesn't obviously say it, then you obviously can't do it. (But don't let that stop you from talking your 'friends' into bending the rules a little to make this game fun, because thats what makes this game fun.)

- posted by an upset IF sitting on a bunch of Tartaros terminator sprues
>>
>>50978477
Move through covers additional d6 is unit-wide so long as one has it, immunity to dangerous terrain tests is per model with the rule
>>
>>50978477
No.

The sergeant in AA gets Infiltrate and Move Through Cover if the unit replaces their armour. He never replaces his power armour with scout armour and then goes to AA. If the Vigilator took scout armour, he couldn't replace it with an AA, since the AA is exchanged for the power armour, not the scout armour.

Trust me, if I could, I would have done that ages ago. Also the fact that Infiltrate makes him unable to join a unit without Infiltrate.
>>
>>50977944
If command squads became characters, would that change anything? Maybe it would but only for DG, EC, WS and other legions with character-exclusive weapons that mysteriously tactical squad sarges have access to...but not Command squads.

>>50978670

Stupid question, but isn't there a differentiation between Independent Character and Character?
>>
>>50978695
Yes there is, but some weapons are available to regular sarges, like Power Scythes and whatever those +1Str DA swords are called.
But some are available only to ICs, like UM Legatine Axes. Except for Suzerains, of course.
>>
>>50978695
To put it simply, (Independent) Characters can fight challenges, Independent Characters can join units.

Man, I could have sworn I saw it somewhere, because I made a note of it. Must have been some other command squad then (not Deathshrouds, they're all Characters).

Can Terminator Bodyguard take a proteus? The regular command squad DT bit says the command squad can take a Rhino or a Proteus while under the Terminator Bodyguard it says they can take a Phobos and no Rhino. I dislike FW "adding flexibility" to the game through loose writing that then becomes obsolete yet don't fix on later editions

making a 10 man cataphractii terminator squad for my imperial fists, should I do 5 with stormshields? would that be enough to eat up shots from the front? I feel like giving them all stormshields would be a bit much. and that's saying something since it's 10 fucking terminators in a spartan.

Its $10 more if you live in GB. The rest of us have to deal with taxes and shipping costs.
>>

Look, I believe in Trump, but he did not make the dollar THAT good. Also, you can get GW kits from retailers at a discount, while FW slaps a good 10-15% extra on your order for S&H.

I bet you if FW still made their 40k Vindicators, nobody would object to using them. But because it's GW made, it's bad.
>>
>>50980092

>12% sales tax as well as what 16% for shipping

My advice is worth shit since I'm still army building and haven't played any games, but those termies are either going to get launched directly into melee range or they are going to footslog after some catastrophic development which would expose them to a lot of incoming fire.

Under the first circumstance, it doesn't really matter. Under the second circumstance, you want maximum survivability.
>>
Iron hands or Imperial Fists?
>>
>>50980126
If you have a GW store in your area, FW will charge you an equivalent sales tax. Luckily, I have family in OR that don't mind shipping my stuff to me down in CA.
>>
>>50980146

Its true though, FW vindicator has some curves to it but thats it really. The 40kcator has a more industrial look to it.
>>
>>50980130
This. I was planning on buying those vindicators from FW when they were made by them, but when they came to plastic, I was happy to drop some money on a pair and later on a 3rd to get a full squadron. Absolutely love the model. And I don't mind the Mars hull either. The Deimos looks like a 3rd party conversion than a honest attempt at making a MkI Rhino. They should have just done that instead, seeing how much you're replacing of the kit already.

Call them Iron Fists and thus they can be either IF or IH depending on your mood that day, and also use them in 40k.
>>
>>50980206
Not in the EU (for now). Have to hurry the fuck up and order everything I need before Brexit comes to effect, unless UK manages to make some trade deal with the EU that lets goods more through as they used to.

Sucks that a few years ago the local officials lowered the minimum price of tax free imports. Used to be that you could order almost 50€ worth of stuff with no VAT+Customs fees. Now it's 20€. So fuck ordering outside the EU, unless you want a nice quarter of the prices added.
>>

How does this work? Do I order and then have them ship to a local GW store? Or do I go to the GW store and place the order?

>A Terminator Captain is among the most highly skilled and experienced warriors humanity has ever produced. In recognition of their achievements, these Marines are allowed the honour of wearing a distinctive badge that incorporates fragments of the Emperor's armour. During his struggle against Horus aboard the Warmaster's battle barge at the climax of the Horus Heresy, the Emperor was aided by a squad of Terminators from the Imperial Fists chapter. In recognition of their act of valour, the mortally wounded Emperor ordered that his own suit of armour be taken off and melted down, and its shards incorporated into badges that all Terminator Captains should wear. Therefore all efforts are made to recover the suits of Captains killed in action as the loss of such a relic brings great dishonour to the squad and the Chapter.

You mock the brave souls who fought with the Emperor on that fateful day.

This is what the Rite looks like:
>Rite of War: Sagyar Mazan Only usable in a Scar led shattered legion army. It represents the faction of the V Legion that almost considered siding with Horus and thus were ordered to go on suicide missions. This Rite is somewhat similar to the Lone Wolves in that they can gain even when they're killed.

>Death seekers: Upon the death of any unit which granted victory points to the enemy roll a D6. On a 4-5 no VPs are awarded; on a 6 your side gets the VP instead.
>Serpent's Eye: Every model with the Legiones Astartes rule is Fearless for the first turn of any assault.
>Must be Loyal.
>May not have more vehicle than infantry units.
>>
>>50982051
yes, most people who are regulars know what sagyar mazan is, but you didnt mention any of that in your post. Whats the rest of your list going to look like? Why did Corax stop producing super space marines after learning about the Alpha Legion's sabotage?

He knew WHY his recruits where being made into mutants and that the problem was fix'd. He also knew it was possible to create super space marines when the process wasn't fucked (the Raptors), so why'd he stop?

because the super space marine serum and alpha legion stuff was thrown in without really thinking about how it would change the rest of the raven guard's history

Corax stopped before because he had rebuilt his legion's strength after istvaan and didn't need to rely on the riskier methods to keep numbers up. Now he stopped.. because.. reasons. He's a mad Archmagos with near-unlimited resources and is basically a Primarch on the table I think that's probably fine. The good thing about him not having a model is that you can go a bit nuts with the design anyway.

Mine was going to be smaller, but that's because I want to be able to mount him on a custom Baneblade I'm currently working on, since I want him in my Reductor army too. I could just ally him in with some Thralls, but that's boring.

I'm turning the back hull of the Baneblade into a command platform, but I'm torn on what variant to build. Hellhammer is cool, but the Stormlord leaves enough space to get properly creative. Is there a way to mount the Hellhammer Cannon on the Stormlord turret?

Anyway, Charnabal sabres are nice.

Phoenix Spears are definitely better, but if you are not comfortable with spending that many points on such fragile unit, they do quite nicely.
The rending makes them useful against all targets, and they deal enough attacks to be fairly reliable.

Powersword are a nice option if you want them to handle the big blobs of tacticals, but people always buy artificer for their sergeants, so be sure to buy a Spear for the Prefector so he can challenge and take care of that.

Thanks for that, doesnt look too tricky. You can mostly just swap out the front of the turret panelling and mount the different gun as far as I can tell. They don't line up exactly, but a little greenstuff and plasticard should fix that.

I would use the Shadowsword, but I can buff the Hellhammer Cannon with a Magos Reductor and/or some Cyber-Occularis, and a fixed-facing S:D cannon doesn't benefit much from those. I might magnetise them, but I think the Hellhammer will be more generally useful unless I have a pressing need for a dead Warhound Titan. Not much that doesn't die to S10 AP0 7" blast Ignores Cover Sunder Interceptor that does to Strength D.

2 questions, mainly about Support Squads

I'm running Death Guard, Creeping Death ROW and as such I'm mostly footslogging infantry. I've tried to include a healthy mix of GW and FW in my list and it looks fluffy enough to me.

1. Is it a *bad* idea to footslog a 10-man Flamer squad using Creeping Death's 5+ cover save, supporting the 40~ tactical marine blobs up the field, hopefully adding some extra protection from a charge or sitting on an objective ready to push back an assault?

2. How many Melta support dudes is it worth having, and what's the best delivery for them? They're expensive for a suicide unit. I had intended to stick 5 in a Rhino with the mandatory Siege Breaker and go tank hunting alongside some Veterans, but I'm not sure whether they'll do their job or not with minimal numbers, but 10 is a 300+ point sink onto a unit that will definitely die early on.
>>
>>50984194
>40 tacmarine blobs
9000 points worth of DG would be a sight to see!

to answer your question, not really, your tac marines are likely able to do decently well as infantry killers. The flamers would be useful against melee units, such as WE and various 1w terminators. However, barring EC and WE lists, massed melee isnt really a thing in the heresy. You would probaly be better off with Volkite Calivers.

Melta is of doubtful use in the heresy, since some people actually do use Armoured Ceramite on anything important to avoid pods full of Leviathans or Melta support. That said, most people skimp on the AC so a rhino with nine dudes and a Siege Breaker will probably cripple anything thats not AV14 all round if they manage to get close enough to shoot, AC or no
>>
>>50980327
Why did you do this? Why can't you just paint them yellow? This is not even like a pauldron or two, or some other element of armor painted differently to signify chapter/company/whatever colors, this is full on retard

Delegati. "Delegatii" would have been if the sing. nominative was "delegatius". -ii is a 40k level meme. Just in case someone's interested, Moritat plural is Moritates in (fictional) Latin.
Also no Latin beyond "de facto/iure", "ad hoc" etc. is actually used in the real world law practice, but it shouldn't scare you anyway because it's a very systematised language and besides no serious law school should make you waste your time on a serious study of a dead language when there's already a lot of material to go through. That's coming from a Latin enthusiast.

My dad used to work construction in the middle east during the oil boom. There was some dude who made a killing in the oil business and had money to spend. He bought a little bulldozer (those open cab type things) he could fit on the back of his pickup truck. You can imagine what it does to a pickup truck when you drive a bulldozer, even a small one, on there. Of course the dude could not fathom what went wrong and was just "But it fits!"

Just because Custodes are bulky doesn't mean they weigh the same as terminators. Grav rhinos is what the Custodes had before and it's what they should have now, not some golden dildoe mobile FW pulled out of their ass.

Are you going to put transfers on their shoulders instead? If so, could try to match to that red.

Alternately, the BoP painting guide recommends khorne red for night lords.

I don't know if this is just me, but does anyone else find writing/running a list with a Primarch + 10 man Term + Spartan at the centre quite difficult?

>>
>>50984979
get the transfer sheet i'dd say you can do a lot of marines for the price of 10 shoulderpads and it'll still look good
either get the one from the normal space marine kit trough bits sellers or ebay, or get the fw one
then use a red to match that colour
if you're to cheap for either of those you probably shouldn't be getting into 30k

personally though i'dd shell out for some of the helmet packs to , the NL ones look really nice and you don't have to kit out all your units with it just sprinkle them around units
you could also use the NL torsos for artificer sergeants or that fear thingy you guys can buy
>>
>>50985016

I have a few transfers from some CSM boxes, though that will be an experiment because I've never used them before. I would like the wings there somewhere, though.

Also, I had no idea the BoP box came with a painting guide. I have Khorne and Wazdakka red I think, so that's not a problem.
>>
>>50985021
I figure it works the other way round. I don't think most people set out to build a list around a spartan deathstar, but after fucking around trying to work out how to get a praetor (because you need one for a ROW, and you want him in CC with his stats) and a legion-specific terminator squad (because they're cool) into the same part of the table when you can't get both into a land raider a lot of people just give up and decide to get a spartan.
>>

Basilisk, mad props bro!
>>
>>50984093

>>50985035

Well, I have both HH boxes, so I don't really have much of a choice unless I just use them as CSM. However, I can make a pretty sizeable Pride of the Legion with those boxes and a few converted Dreadclaws.

As for Terror Squads, I was probably going to use warp talon heads and maybe try my hand at making some skin from GS or pva glue, though both are an experiment.

We'll see, though. I'll probably need to order at least a set of Volkite from FW, so maybe I'll grab some more. It depends on my bank account at the time.
>>

If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend Grey Talon. It fits in between Scars and Little Horus and perfectly links the two together.
>>
>>50985099

it looks a bit more over the top and a bit worse but it is a lot cheaper than FW and it'll definitely make your terror squads stand out

In one of the NL trilogy, there's a chapter of flashbacks about why Talos is called Soul Hunter; the Night Lords all lined up in the corridors and cried as the assassin went to murder Curze as he ordered them to stand by and watch but not to kill her. One of the Captains starts yelling at Talos when he breaks ranks and chases the assassin saying 'No, she has to get back to Terra!'. Then the other Captains realise that she looted Curze's body as well as killing him and that's a step too far, so they fragment into factions and all join the chase to recover his crown and some other trinkets.

She's also carrying Curze's head, which is pretty empirical evidence. He is d-e-a-d-FUCKED.

Cortus dreads shine in CC melee with I5 chainfists.
