Yeah, and she was pretty fun. Centaur Ranger named Fanny . (Specced for archery) She was kind of a no nonsense character and a little bit of a prude. She often had to reign in the other "OmG SOOOO wacky, lol, RaNdOm, YOLO" characters. Seeing as I was the only experienced rolepkayer at the time, the GM let me have a centaur with no level adjustment, on the condition that I method act Fanny so the new guys would have someone as a role model. It was certainly a trying 9 months, but I would do it again if I could.

In a PF game set in the Midgard setting, since centaurs are a major race in the not-Russia/west Asia end of the world. I made a barbarian and styled him as a merchant wannabe out sampling the goods of the rest of the world.

That game ended before a real conclusion was met, but he was well on his way to the cash stockpile he wanted to use to retire and sell exotic goods of the south to the people of Domovgorod and elsewhere in the west. It was fun. He was almost making the jump from a barbarian who didn't really understand commerce to profiting on the system!

I played a unicorn Druid way back when 5e was in playtesting.

I'd say it worked out okay. I went with the "Elf Maidens only" rule for party members using me as a mount, which turned into a running gag between two other players (who were dating outside the game) where he kept trying to hook up with her but she kept turning him down because she didn't want to have to get a mount.

Does anyone else think about a unique cavalry unit when they look at centaurs?

I'm talking here about a hit-and-run one that has both the centaur as a hitter (with lance, sword, shield and specially designed armor to give the centaur as much protection as possible, but also doesn't hinder his movements or exhaust him too quickly), and a archer that can focus on shooting and support while his centaur partner does the whole maneuvering and charging.

Wouldn't that be cool? Of course training such a type of military formation would require time...time for both centaur and archer to bond with each other in a form of comradeship.

That seems suitably exotic without being difficult. They're roughly the same size and mobility as any standard race. It's not as if having two hooves is any worse than people wearing shoes.

I played a horse once. Took a massive penalty to moving down stairs and couldn't go inside most buildings with the party.

Kind of sucked but honestly one of our more fun campaigns.

My centaur had a Ring of Reduce monster (monstrous humanoids don't get effected by reduce person spell), and horseshoes of mist for getting around tricky places. Thankfully the DM gave those items to me through some dungeon crawls after he figured out I couldn't really do ladders.

Planescape had Bariaurs back in AD&D. Which were like bighorn sheep versions of centaurs who came from the Chaotic Good and Chaotic Good/Neutral planes - Arborea and Ysgard, I think. its not really that much additional mass, considering the average horse head weighs about 120 lbs, and that's not including the neck, so compare that to above the stomach of an average human (considering everything from the chest to the waist is the equivalent of the horse's neck). It actually shouldn't be much more weight than a normal horse already has carrying.

The average horse lasts 10 seconds, the average human about half an hour and with good health and proper training can last for several hours. Also all the sensitive bit of horse pussy are only about an inch in and thanks to powerful vaginal muscle they can clamp down pretty hard on anything that gets inserted.

Race is a down-to-earth deertaur fey, class is a lithe fighter-ranger hybrid mount with shared feats and bonus, and the system is basically shared initiative, reduced checks DC, and synergy bonuses when you work together.

A few years ago, I invited one of my friend's brothers to play D&D with us. It was just a quick one-shot.

I do Centaurs in my setting as more like mountain goats than directly horses.

So they're actually one of the most agile races and have zero issues with stairs and even ladders.

Played a centaur sorcerer in a short series of pathfinder games. Started out at a moderate level and grew from there. I chose the dragon bloodline so that further down the line I would have wings. Pegasus-taur artillery sorcerer. Had a blast.

Wasnt me, but a friend of mine played a minotaur metavariant of a troll in 4E shadowrun. His minotaur was also Amerindian from the south and an ex Lone-Star cop, so he opted for his "bovine" look to be a texas longhorn. Played one once in a game where non-standard races were a thing. The rest of the party were two kobolds and a couple humans.
Once I hit level 6, I became Large-sized, so I invested in a portable pulley system to get around the problem of ladders in dungeons. Stairs weren't a problem, as having a human torso allowed me the necessary visual range to successfully navigate them.
Started out bow-specced but ended up picking up a war scythe after the Kobolds made me a suit of armor out of giant scorpions.
