So I want to get the phosphex shells for my Medusas and Rapier batteries because DG just say fuck you to difficult terrain tests. However, I also want to use Durak Rask as my Warlord when I'm not using Morty. He has the same 'Art of Destruction' rule as the Siege Breaker consuls, and the same wargear.

Can he be said to grant this upgrade, or do I need to put a Siege Breaker Consul in the list as well? Seems like an oversight if so, he's clearly meant to be a named character Siege Breaker.

For Ultras, just mention Ward's name 3 times or remind them that they got thoroughly trounced at Calth and they'll crawl out of the woodwork without fail. Magnus and the TS did nothing wrong.

Lorgar was looked down on by nearly all of his brothers for his failings as a warrior since he was basically a giant nerdThis, and the WB's other failings during the Crusade make them prime targets for old fashioned bullying.

How acceptable would it be to do a 30k army in a carcharodon colours? I know it's a bit of a meme/cliche about them being pale nomads/exiled terran raven guard or whatever, but I don't really hear about people doing armies in that scheme.

Basically, I like the raven guard, but not sure my painting skillz are up to making an all-black force look good, so considering that scheme as a backup choice if test models don't work out. Follow-up question: would it be okay to use RG legion rules for such a force, or would only blackshield rules be acceptable? (I suppose chimerae option 3 (fleet, fear, rage, -1BS) does seem purpose-designed for a pale nomad sort of army.)

Honestly, if someone came up with something that wasn't 15 years old or based on 40k butthurt, it would be far less annoying.
The Calth thing is probably the stupidest, because anyone with sense can accept that while the UMs pushed the Wordbearers off, it was at the expense of so much else that there really wasn't a winner, to the point where you could argue the UMs were the losers of the exchange because of the events it leads to.
But people throw the same memes and bait, and someone will take it, and I groan inside almost every time because it's been happening so fucking long, more than 20 years, that you just want people to shut the fuck up and PLAY the game.

a bunch of units get access to dreadclaws, that alone makes them able to play orbital assault without actually having to use that RoW so you could mix and match shit like using Drop Assault Vanguard to have all your assault squads drop turn one then your dreadclaw veterans arriving also in turn 1, it could be possible to have 80% of your army deep strike turn 1.

Their rites are not bad but I think they add some depth to the legion so its not just deep striking all day erry day.

I was just wondering which types are better for the "slow" legions more than anything else. Toughness 7 multi-wound monstrous creatures could go well with footslogging Ironfire lists, I imagine. And Tank Hunters would help my lascannon-heavy Imperial Fist list force the enemy to fight on the ground on my terms. Speaking of which, do Flare-Shielded Spartans suffer from Lance weapons? Would the Darkfire cannons be a good counter to them?

I'm still just a bit bitter back when they came they became super low tier after the second book and HAD overpriced units (plz fix reavers). I think that their rites are only okay, yet very fluffy if your playing SoH. Not really representative of the LW, but more on that later.
They definitely do have layers to their strategy as they do play like an elite army, but to make the most out of your eliteness, you really have to invest in dreadclaws for everyone and the special characters minus Horus/Maloghurst suck. But then again, I don't always want to run Horus/Maloghurst because your dudes

Even with the Luna Wolves, I still think there is that gang mentality, far less of that dehumanization stuff (looking at the lodges), I get this sort of savage proto-Roman feel from them.There not fully regimented legionnaires like some of the other legions were, but still an insanely capable fighting force capable of reacting quickly because of self initiative.

Reavers are cool, (just want them to be repriced or get a default equipment change, bolters as stock would be nice)

Justaerins are one of my favorite units

I think the one thing that bothers me about there representation isn't so much the SoH vs LW aspect or Legion Astartes rules, but how their Rites were designed. Their rights have subjectively good bonuses, (but are just to situational) and while it is nice that it's more than just deep strike very day. The cost of deep striking is arguably to high, Dreadclaws are great, but i don't want to use to deepstrike my Terminators when other legions like the NL/RG/IF can do it for 15 points, something that most of them didn't have as an initial emphasis on.

Rant's aside, i really feel like the LW/SoH should be the ALPHA strike legion, yet aside from Drop Assault Vanguard like you said and Orbital Assault (what i'm doing) i feel like the whole alpha thing never got represented in anything directly related to them minus their recently added legion rules. Really like how the CSM Black Legion Speartip detachment main benefit is turn one reserves/warlord and company can automatically pass reserve rolls.

Nothing crazy maybe just a new Rite that allows terminator equipped models to deepstrike turn one (still needing to role for reserves) while retaining the ability to use most of the other legion stuff

With the points updates, I just plan to use reavers as a super assault squad, 15 of them outflanking with jump packs and chainaxes ready to unleash merry hell on the enemy backline. But then again I also plan to take Maloghurst and as many outflanking vets as possible backed with a pair of lightnings and only having a pair of malcs as my only 'starting on the field' units.

BC and Demo yes, with flamer sponsons because close support fort buster tank.
As to exact points, it varies hard, at the moment me and 15 others are building up for a campaign set around 6k master lists you draw from as needed. Setting points before the game and building your list from said army stock. Me, I ignored the standard 'take a primarch or any lord of war really' and instead stocked up on a pair of malcadors as 2 heavy support slots. Other derpy points unit is my Justaerin But its gunna be a rare one where you see those boys and the Malcs on the field together.

What are you wanting them to look like? My sons of horus have a vast variety of helmets for my own amusement. Mainly mixed between Mk 2-6 with a couple mk 7s scattered in as thier fun custom model (seen in betrayal) but those mainly mounted on otherwise mk 2 or 4 suits.

I actually took the idea from a couple sources, originally he was going to have a combi-bolter thunder hammer. But it seemed kind of generic. (The hammer was referenced from the book Talon of Horus where he was described as having a pair of them which I saw as stupid looking.) So I thought on it, got the phrase 'Talons of the Widowmaker' stuck in my head which I also used as his warlord trait name, and then used it as his offhand weapon. This way he can also mimic his beloved father.
