Alright /tg/ I need your help. Family coming over for the holidays, and I need your help coming up with a rules light system I can use for a little oneshot to entertain the chilluns.
Probably not going to get more than one shot, so I don't need any progression rules, or anything like that. Preferably pretty simple so I don't bore them with piles of rules at the start.
I've got some mini's so they have something to hold onto and look at, but I don't know anything I can use for rules. Help me /tg/. You're my only hope.
Maid RPG.
Unironically.

As hilarious as that may be, none of them watch even trash anime. Might be hard to get in the mindset. And when I say rules light, I think even Maid may be a little much. I was thinking maybe one of those one page RPGs? Or something else that's light?
Regardless, thank you chiming in.

Everyone is John would be neat

Diceless. 100% narrative.
>>50937147
Wasn't there a Disney movie recently that's exactly that?

>Everyone is John
probably the best answer you'll get OP
>>50936915
Be sure you don't make a FATAL mistake, OP.

It just works.

You could try Cat. It's simple and even has a section specifically about running a game for kids.

Hmm, I'm not too familiar with that. I'm trying to plant the seed of "you all have your character, who is separate from you and does their own thing." Doesn't Everyone Is John feature everyone playing the same character?
>>50937319
No, everyone is playing the voices in that character's head.

Basic Fantasy is on amazon for like 5 dollars and works well with kids.
>>50937233
I had to roll SAN after looking at that... thing. Don't remind me.
>>50937312
Ooh! Thanks. I'll have to look at it, but that certainly looks unique.

tavern tales.
This might be cool to run with kids.

If your group is all girls (or is all kids who think that stereotypically girly things like princesses and unicorns are great), try setting up a game of Tales of the Crystals. It's basically a children's fantasy larp that's heavy on glitter and wonder. The game is out of print and super expensive to buy an actual copy, but all the rules and tape can be found at this site, and setup beyond that only needs easy-to-scrounge stuff like a notepad, mirror, etc.

If your group is all boys (or all kids who think stereotypically boyish things like fighting and yelling over each other are great), try Drunken Bear Fighter. It's a super-simple one-page rpg that's give the DM plenty of room to make things up--and to let the players describe the badass/hilarious things they're doing. Depending on their ages and their parents, you can kid-friendlitize it by renaming it "grumpy bear fighter" and giving the players all clubs instead of guns at the start. Trust me, the kids will be just as happy bludgeoning the "grumpy" bears until they "run away" instead of shooting them dead, as long as you still let them target the nuts. Hey, boys will be boys.

Have fun!

Try Lady Bird and its jailbroken counterpart Blackbird Pie. Lady blackbird is for free

Or try the RPG Wushu. It might be better for ages 10-16 where kids can start stringing together narratives about what they do. We were able to play it drunk so it shouldn't be to hard to follow.
